To bail or not to bail issue???

Postby Greater Evil Imperial Japanese Dystopia » Sat Dec 17, 2011 12:43 am

The Issue

A recent severe crash in the stock market of Greater Evil Imperial Japanese Dystopia and a plummet of the value of the Yen has brought the issue of government bailouts to the forefront of the national agenda.
The Debate

"We need to do something now! The people's welfare -- not to mention all my side businesses -- are in serious danger!" screams your finance minister Bill Sanchez. "We need an extensive support program for the businesses that make our country great, otherwise we might as well join ranks with those... third-world countries," he shudders. "Nevermind that all the businesses on this list are owned by my relatives!"

"You're talking about doing what!?" screams Jack Longfellow, a noted fiscal conservative and libertarian scholar. "Government bailouts won't solve anything. They'll only redistribute wealth to those the government happens to favor at that particular moment, while placing a crushing burden onto everybody else. The government must instead cut taxes across the board and axe all unnecessary social programs, particularly our welfare system."

"This bring up an interesting point," remarks socialist author Max Chen. "Why do we allow businesses to become "too big to fail?" The solution, surely, is to break up businesses before they reach such a size that they threaten our economy. Imagine it: community-based businesses, run for the benefit of the little people, not faceless, money-grubbing investment banks! Is there really a reason corporations need to be big?"

In character wise we are very much Communist with economic growth as a priority, however this issue has me in a deadlock. Which one sounds more socialist, yet will this reduce my economy or increase it?

If you don't know, you can dismiss it.

And plus if you do choose an issue, you can always get it back to where it was.

3 is obviously the most socialist. Not only does the issue writer scream it at you by saying "socialist author", there is the very socialist idea of having lots of small (or equal) businesses. I don't know whether it will increase your economy or not

The thing is I want to answer it because I need an economic boost, as long as it does not get me out of the socialist range.

What of the third option?

The 3rd option is a socialist option like Glasgia said. Most likely it has a neutral effect on the economy and an increase in equality of some sort.

I tried it, it downgraded the economy. :(

Now I have to wait for another issue to bring it up...

The 2nd Option I chose to cut taxes, since my tax rate is already outrageous. I figured it wouldn't affect much, but my economy plummeted hugely. Never choose that option. The 3rd option also downgrades economy. If you are looking not to ruin your nation, then just dismiss the issue.

I chose #2 and it destroyed my economy (fell from top 0.7% to 56%). Economy fell by 35%, Economic output by %21%, Average income by 25% etc... RIP :(

I took the N°01, it just made my country look like a freaking economic eldorado ! All my industries, especially the weakest ones (In my case : insurance, book publishing and mining) skyrocketed (+21400% for the insurance industry  ), as well as my public sectors (healthcare, education, law enforcement, defense,...). Even taxes decreased !

The only weak point are environemental (and even here the "cost" of it all was barely noticeable), and black market as well as corruption VS integrity (Wich also increased a bit too much for my taste...

It doesn't seems to be that much a problem to take this one, so except f you are really aiming to be a pure socialist economy, it is the choice to take ! ;)
