India and Russia fail to extend nuclear project.

Postby Nightkill the Emperor » Fri Dec 16, 2011 4:38 pm

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-16212204

For safety concerns, Manmohan Singh and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ultimately did not sign a deal extending a joint nuclear plant project.

I'm rather disappointed, as advances in nuclear technology and closer relations with close friend Russia could be beneficial for India. But I can somewhat understand their concerns.

We did get 42 fighter jets, so that's nice.

What does NSG think? Should Manmohan Singh and Medvedev have signed the bill, and what could this mean for Russia-India relations?

Considering that India is once again being the bitch that all world powers want to have now, I suppose this could advance American-Indian and Sino-Indian relations at the cost of Ruso-Indian relations.

Also, this will not help Sino-Indian relations. We really fucking hate China.

Certainly the State Department could use this as an opportunity for buttering up especially since US-Pakistan relations are degrading fast. I'm all for letting India steamroller Pakistan.

I always wondered why to so many Indians China tends to have such an infamous reputation.

Eh, maybe American-Indian relations, but those two aren't going to be real allies, rather than just PC allies, until the US definitively ditches Pakistan.

And China is just a big no. India is a democracy, and the people kind of don't like China.

As for Russia and India, it is indeed a pity. We should maintain Russia. It's a valuable ally.

And I'm pretty sure that this isn't a souring of relationships, since both sides did actually want a treaty, but the circumstances made it impossible.

Eh, it will never happen again.

But India and China will remain regional, and then global, rivals forever, most likely.

And the warming Chinese and Pakistani relations probably aren't helping.

Considering a military conflict between India and Pakistan could turn into a nuclear war that would leave millions dead and a large chunk of Asia dangerously radioactive, it would be better by far if they didn't fight it out.
"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

Probably hundreds of millions considering that both India and Pakistan have crazy populations.

China will warm up to anyone they perceive as being the slightest bit anti-American...

But your theories are correct about the regional aspect of it, also, take into consideration that on an economic level –they are rivals.

Yes! Finally a chance to dump that ugly girl Pakistan for the (somewhat) hotter India as our 3rd or 4th mistress, now that's she's single again.

I doubt that India's broken up with Russia.

More like the typical fight which will be solved in the next episode.

Unless the US breaks up with Pakistan and begins to make out with India. Of course, then the US has to worry about it's first mistress, China, getting jealous and clingy.

I was hearing that Both India as well as China, have been having military talks between their military officials as well as holding joint war games, to improve their relations.

I see that as a "Sino-Indian Détente". Opinions?

About as likely to happen as for Kim Jong Il to declare North Korea an anarcho-capitalist utopia.

Over the next few years, as US-Pakistani relations further cool, it's possible that India, Russia, and the US will end up as allies.

I do not think it will hurt russian - indian relations, the indians are buying a whole passel of very expensive jet fighters.

i wonder what it is going to do to russian -- chinese relations.
