Rugby Sevens World Cup I
Stadiums

While the Group Stage is being held in invidual countries, the Knockout Rounds will take place in Western Cuba. Four stadiums have been announced to be used in the Round of 16, Quarterfinal, Semi-Final, Third Place Match, and Championship matches. They are as the following.

ImageLocated along the coastline of Havana City. This stadium gives off a beautiful blue glow at night, and offers some of the best seats a stadium has to offer. The pitch is natural grass and can be changed to fit ruby dimensions. The stadium holds 60,000+ and will be used in Round of 16, Quarterfinal, Semi-Final, and Final matches.

Image
Named after the founder of Ovalle. Which this stadium is located in. It's one of the oldest stadiums in Western Cuba but has been renovated several times in it's history. It offers up to date technology, but at the same time has an old feeling to it. Old Alano holds 35,000 spectators and will host Round of 16, and Quarterfinal matches.

Image
The second largest outdoor stadium in Western Cuba. Located in Southern Havana, Guevara Memorial Stadium is named after the Founder of the Republic. The stadium has been recently built and is only several months old. It has a capacity of 55,000 spectators and offers one of the best experiences in sports. Guevara Memorial Stadium will host Round of 16, Quarterfinal, Semi-Final, and Third Place match(s).

Image
Recently constructed also. Trinidad Municipal Stadium is the smallest out of the stadium's selected for the Rugby Sevens World Cup only holding 30,000 spectators but is just as enjoyable as the other ones. Trinidad Municpal Stadium has an state of the art facility and offers top technology. Trinidad Municpal Stadium will host Round of 16, and Quarterfinal matches.

Correct and my apologizes for the mix match. The mistake has been fixed and the Group Stage is now set right. In the future though I ask that any questions or concerns are tg'd to me or posted in the OOC Rugby Discussion Thread which can be found at this link.

Postby The Kiaser Colonies » Sun Dec 04, 2011 3:42 pm

There was only a couple hours until the sevens world cup kicked off and the people of Watson's Bay were ecstatic. Tomorrow The Kiaser Colonies would face Marohirohi in the opening match of the world cup. It was an unorthodox world cup at that, seeing as the group stages were being held outside the host nation. which meant that the opening match for The Kiaser Colonies would be at the National Rugby Stadium in Watson's Bay. The Kiaser Colonies, despite being a hardcore rugby nation, were outsiders in the group. They were at the bottom end of the rankings and were in a tough pool. They would need to dispatch the minnows in the group like Carasatoga, Orlkjestad, Marohirohi and Demarlandia if they were to compete for a qualifying spot. If they had one slip up it would make things harder than they already were. The team were not professional 7's players either, which complicated matters further. They were in fact a compilation of the most impressive backs from the Ki@serfone A-League which was the national rugby union competition. They had adapted well to 7's as a team over the last 3 months and were looking good. They had been sent on a tour after the first month to play the major sevens clubs from around the nation. The first encounter was shaky but they survived. The other 9 games went well. They had won all of the games against the clubs, but they had not yet played at an international level. That would be the real test. The first game against new comers Marohirohi. If they could win and win well that would be a good sign. It was a big ask to jump from union, to club level sevens, to international level. Luckily some of the players were used to playing international level on the union team but most were new to the scene. None of the players wanted to waste their opportunity to impress in front of the world and play for their nation. If they won they would not only be awarded with the title of world champions but would win the highest sporting honour in The Kiaser Colonies, the Kelvin Fitzpatrick Medal. It is awarded to people who achieve one of the highest sporting honours in the world or if they were of exceptional skill. It had only ever been awarded to two people, Jack Watson and Cormack O'Neill who had won the gold medal in men's doubles badminton at the Olympics. The team desperately wanted to be the next people to receive the honour. The only way to do so was to win the world cup. It was a long shot. It was longer than a long shot but they would try. One step at a time. Step 1: Marohirohi at The National Rugby Stadium, Watson's Bay.
Winner of Rugby World Cup 18 and R7WC 2.
Host of Rugby League World Cup XVII

Hosted: Domestic leagues, Rugby League World Cup XVII

Advanced passed groups/qualifiers: Rugby World Cup 17 (Quarter-finals), Copa Rushmori VI, Rugby World Cup 18, R7WC 2, Beach Cup 13, 9th GCF World Twenty20, Rugby League World Cup XVII (Quarter-finals)

3rd Copa Rushmori VI, Beach Cup 13
2nd None
1st Rugby World Cup 18, Rugby 7's World Cup 2, gold medal men's doubles badminton at one iteration of the Olympics.

Triimoria Informer

A Promising Start!

A Win and a Lose in Triimoria's Pre-Group Rugby Sevens World Cup Friendlies!

In today's modern Triimoria, sport is the thing! Several sports associations have been popping up all over the country. From football to extreme knitting! Now Triimoria's newest sports team started with a bang. Yes, rugby sevens! A win against Euskirrabakondara and a close defeat against, world number sevens, Kulverint is just to right to get us up and running in what will hopefully be a succesful sport! The first was the Euskirrabakondara game.

Code: Select all
Euskirrabakondara   14-36           Triimoria

Tries:               Tries:
Aundarka   3, 12                    Dorrins   2, 7
                                    Dickens   9, 13
                                    D' Eau   14

Cons:                               Cons:
Udultarri (2)                       Dagmont (4)

                                    Pens:
                                    Dagmont   11

The game was an exciting one! Seven tries and plenty of great play. The first try came in Triimoria's favour, from winger Colin Dorrins. The forwards drew in the Euskal defence, with strong pick and go play. Driving deep into the opposition half, before Dagmont shipped the ball along the line out to Dorrins on the right wing, he put on the pace, side-stepping his opposite number to cross the line. He cut up and placed the ball between the posts for Dagmont to convert easily. 7-0! A lovely try. However within a minute Euskirrabakondara were back on level terms. Jon Gutsaleak running a great angled run forcing his marker, D' Eau, to leave a large gap. Gutsaleak played a great switch pass with Aundarka to exploit that gap and allow Aundarka in for the try. The crowd went wild! A fabulous display of passing supremacy from Euskirrabakondara. Udultarri easily converted. 7-7. The next try did not arrive until late in the first half. Again from Dorrins. D' Eau played a run at a good angle, drawing in his marker. Dorrins was on his shoulder for the off-load which was delivered to him. Dorrins scored right under the posts! Again, a conversion that Dagmont could have scored with his eyes closed. 14-7 to Triimoria at half-time.

Triimoria increased their lead with a try from left winger, Dickens. From a ruck Dagmont passed the ball to Dickens on the blind-side. His opposite winger was side-stepped pass and Dickens was over the line for the try, right in the corner. However, Dagmont could not convert the try. He would make up for it on the eleventh minute. A high tackle from Txandarri on Dickens gave Triimoria a penalty on the left wing. A tricky kick. Although Dagmont is a competent kicker and he duly grabbed the three points for Triimoria. 22-7 for Triimoria. Our national team were widening the gap now! Though Euskirrabakondara were not about to give up! Especially not at there home stadium! It was Aundarka earning his double. Near the Triimorian line Andangadia passed from a ruck to Udultarri to Aundarka who had angled his run between Dickens and D' Eau. To score his try, which was converted by Udultarri. 22-14. In the final two minutes there were two tries for Triimoria from Dickens and D' Eau. For Dickens a simple side-stepping maneuver past his opposite number got him his try and with a conversion it was 29-14. D' Eau finished the scoring on the thirteenth minute when with Euskirrabakondara on their try line he muscled his way through. With yet another conversion 36-14.

The second match was at home against a big name in world rugby, Kulverint. Triimoria ran them suprisingly close.

Code: Select all
Triimoria           19-21           Kulverint

Tries:                              Tries:
D' Eau   5, 9                       Ardana   2, 11
Dickens   13                        Hunniaya   4

Cons:                               Cons:
Dagmont (2)                         Weepa (3)

Gaining momentum from their win over Euskirrabakondara, Triimoria appeared to be really up for this game. They kept strong throughout the match. Kulverint scored the first tries on the second and fourth minute. From a ruck on the right wing the ball went all the way down the line with finesse and speed to the left wing where Ardana ran in for the try. It was converted by Weepa. 7-0. While the first had the finesse of a gymnast the second had the finesse of a butcher. A long period of rucking on the Triimorian line, left Triimoria's players battered and tired, eventually Hunniaya leapt in for the try. Again this was converted by Weepa. 14-0. It looked as if Kulverint were going to run away with this game, but it was not to be. Triimoria hit back swiftly, keeping themsevles in contention. Dagmont played the angled run which made his marker leave a large gap. A simple switch pass with D' Eau gifted the stand-off a try. Dagmont converted with ease. 14-7, Triimoria were well and truly back in this!

Two minutes into the second half Triimoria equalised through D' Eau. Just five minutes game time this had seemed an impossible task, but so is the nature of sevens rugby, that the game changes so quickly. Some nice passing play from Triimoria had forced Kulverint onto their try line. Right from the ruck the ball was given to D' Eau who stepped Wvoyda to dive between the posts. 14-14! This game was getting tense. After this Kulverint grabbed the game by the scruff of it's neck and took control. They reasserted their lead on the eleventh minute. Again passing across the pitch from right to left with speed and precision allowed Ardana to score his double, which was converted. 21-14. To minutes to go and the game looked well and truly won. Triimoria were on the back foot and on their own try line. Ardana faced off against Dickens. Ardana came in close... And Dickens well and truly smashed him! Dickens was quickly on his feet and took the ball from the dazed Ardana, and down the wing Dickens ran! No one could catch him! Try for Triimoria! 21-19! Dickens placed the ball right under the post for an easy conversion for Dagmont. A simple conversion to give Triimoria a draw with a top-class sevens team. Dagmont stepped up for his kick. The pressure seemed to get to the kick as he scuffed the ball. Dagmont looked horrified as the ball trickled under the post. That moment will stay with him for a long, long time! So close for Triimoria.

Two friendlies, one win, one lose. These two matches will set Triimoria in a mindset for the Rugby Sevens World Cup tomorrow!
