Apple, Microsoft, or Linux?

Postby Mikertaz Kein » Fri Aug 28, 2009 4:21 pm

"The much hyped built-in malware protection into Apple's Snow Leopard upgrade appears to be nothing more than a XProtect.plist file containing five signatures for two of the most popular Mac OS X trojans."

Wait, so Mac isn't virus-proof? Well, thanks to this information everyone that I have ever known to buy a Mac bought it for the wrong reason. The slow system, buggy interface, and random crashes are not worth the non-existent virus-shield.

I am sure Dell/HP fanboys will back me up...

Myself, I run neither. I have a homebuilt PC that suits my advanced needs. I also run Linux, the only OS that has yet to give me a virus.

Enter the Mac supporters...

The reason for the apparent virus-proofing of a Mac is because it's not as widespread and in use like PCs are. If Macs were the hardware and OS of choice through the information society there'd have been a bonanza of Mac-specific virus long ago.

I’m reprinting a chart he put together from Apple’s documentation, listing which features are available for each family of Macs. I added color coding (red if a feature is unavailable, yellow if it’s partially enabled) to make the chart a bit easier to read (the chart is available after the jump):

Hmm... Alot of mac users are going to shit over this...

I've owned both Macs and PCs. They're both good for different things. I really don't understand the obsessive fanboy love/hatred on this topic.

PC all the way.

The only things I see Macs as useful are...

-Using as a boat anchor
-Matching your chic decor
-Using the fancy image editor (Which is negated by the fact that you can just download paint.NET for free)
-A blunt weapon
-Making someone commit suicide (By giving it to them as a gift, presuming they cannot get a PC)
-Pissing off your friends because NOTHING WORKS on a Mac

The Mac television advertisements have driven me to hate Mac. The systems themselves, I've never had a problem with, but I refuse to give my money to a company that will spend them on advertisements that do nothing but sell Macs by attacking PCs and their owners. Yes, their owners. Implicitly, of course, but they're doing it!

Also, I like to play computer games, so screw Mac. Windows might suck, but it suits my needs just fine, thank you.

Regarding viruses, the Mac's not perfect (and neither is Linux), but it's still better than Windows. I've never had random crashes, and the interface is less buggy than Windows (but not as good as some Mac users claim). I will admit that the Mac is slower than XP, but it's faster than Vista.

waitwut?

Everything WORKS, the question is, does it work WELL.

With a mac, I get reasonable performance and reasonable quality at a ridiculous price.

But Microsoft isn't all that much better.

That is why I use a homemade computer. Cheap and Powerful. Sleek and Efficient. I could install and play GTAIV right now...if I wasn't using the dinosaur Diamond 2001 Stealth64 Video Card with 1 MB VRAM.

But, if I upgrade my video card, my computer will be perfect in my eyes...

Having seen the PC vs Mac adverts, I decided both were total dicks who I'd never let into my house.

This is why I'm writing this on an old typewriter which connects to the internet through a large array of steam-driven tubes.

For a monitor, I use an old black and white portable television.

I lied.

I have Window Vista and I never had problems with it. Except a hard drive crash, but I doubt that could be attributed to Vista.

Now to wait for people to blame it on Vista.
