Government of Galbadia

The Republic of Nova Galbadia is a Parliamentary Republic. The Constitution of Nova Galbadia defines the government.

According to the Constitution, the President is the head of state and responsible for foreign policy in cooperation with the cabinet. Other powers include Commander-in-Chief, decree, and appointive powers. Direct vote is used to elect the president for a term of six years and maximum two consecutive terms.
The 200-member unicameral Parliament of Nova Galbadia exercises the supreme legislative authority in Nova Galbadia. The parliament may alter laws, the constitution, bring about the resignation of the Council of State, and override presidential vetoes. Proportional vote in multi-seat constituencies is used to elect the parliament for a term of four years.
The cabinet (the Nova Galbadian Council of State) exercises most executive powers. It is headed by the Prime Minister of Nova Galbadia and includes other ministers. Parliament majority decides its composition and a vote of no confidence can be used to modify it.

Overview

Throughout Nova Galbadia's prehistory and history, cultural contacts and influences have concurrently, or at varying times, come from all directions. Today, cultural influences from Western Europe are prominent. Into the twenty-first century, many Galbadians have contacted cultures from distantly abroad. Beyond tourism, Galbadian youth in particular have been increasing their contact with people from outside the Republic by travelling abroad to both work and study.

The Galbadian mentality is often characterised by less small talk and more honest and straight forward types of communication compared to other cultures.

Cuisine

Nova Galbadian cuisine is very unique. Traditional Cuisine is a mixture of foods styles from around the nation and nations surrounding the republic. The food is generally simple, fresh and healthy. Fish, meat, berries and ground vegetables are typical ingredients found in most traditional dishes. The modern Cuisine is a mixture of local specialities and other world recipies.

Sports

Nova Galbadians love all sorts of sports. The most common are; Soccer, Basketball, Tennis, and Hockey. Sports are considered a healthy pastime. There is at least one sports team in every school as well as every town. Nation wide competitions are very common.

The official language of Nova Galbadia is Galbadian. This language is as old as the nation itself. Its roots are unknown, but it is believed to be from a Germanic language. The oldest text in Galbadian is ´Den Tempes ov Gret Denger´ Translated, it means, The Times of Great Danger.

History

Modern History -19th century and 20th century


The history of Nova Galbadia i very simple. Meaning that inbetween the 19th and 20th centuries, nothing much happened. In 1801 the Kingdom of Dollet was established due to a civil war that started in 1790 and ended in 1800. The Nova Galbadia of that time was an empire that had established colonies around the world. In 1830 The Empire of Nova Galbadia established the colony of Durlac in northern Africa. The territorial gain was thanks to a treaty that was established in late 1829 with a neighbouring nation. In 1840, the First government owned bank was established. This ended the monopoly of the older Gradswviech family bank. The government encouraged the people to use the state owned bank.

The industrial revolution of 1850.

In 1850, foregin industrial ideals began to become more common and more accepted. In 1854, the empire of nova Galbadia opened The institution for the Studies of Industry and Science, at the then capitol, Port Jeneva. By 1859 and 1860, number of factories at Port Jeneva was a total of 20. Nationwide the number rose from 15 in 1846, to 35 in 1860. The biggest boom of factories was in 1875, when there was a total of 140 factories nationwide. The shift of the nation from a mostly agricultural economy to a more industrialized economy was becoming more and more obvious. The industrial Revolution ended in 1899, with a total of 850 factories nationwide.

After the industrial Revolution- 1900

The industrialization of the nation had its good points and bad points. The good that came from the revolution was the shift of the economy, giving the government more money and providing the poor workers of the countryside oppertunities in the city. The bad that came with the industrial revolution was the largely crowded cities and pollution. Not to mention child labour and corruption.

in 1905, the percentage of people that worked in factories was 65. Out of that 65%, 40% were children under the age of 12. After the civil war in 1926, the new republic outlawed the labour of children under 15 years old and in 1930 backed up the laws by passing heavy consequences to lawbreakers and by taking control of police and fire stations.

A political Change

The Empire of the last century faced numerous problems. It's loss of the Dollet area meant a loss of the largest agricultural producer of the nation and of large famine in the later part of the 19th century. The cost of maintaining colonies became a large problem, draining the nation's treasury significantly. In the 1850's thorough the 1890's the government adopted a policy of leting the people do what they need to do by themselves. This attitude cut of government owned police and fire protection. The people of the cities paid a self imposed tax to go directly to local police and fire departments. In the countryside, chaos began, the people of that area were too poor to pay for police and fire protection.

In 1914, the empire began to fall. There was a large civil war focused mainly in the farming areas of the nation. The empire faced revolution in their colonies and civil unrest in the urban areas with large concentrations of factories. In 1920, the Empire made peace with it's colonies by allowing them total separation from Nova Galbadia. The Empire then forced the mostly weak army to attack the rebels around the capitol city and around the major farming regions. The first major battle was at Barbarrossa. The Imperial army composed of 15,000 men against the Republican Forces of only 5,000 men. The Republican forces were able to defeat to morally low imperial army. The Civil war ended in 1925 with the republican forces taking over the imperial capitol and establishing the Republic of Nova Galbadia.
