We already have a thread on the debate.

At least, in my experience at least.

They had a debate?

EDIT: I see I am a victim of not paying attention and as such, have made an irrelevant post. I thought we were talking about last weeks debate and calling it a 'Tea Party' debate to be snarky. I now see that the debate I thought would be tomorrow on CNN is actually called the Tea Party Debate and therefore my post is sort of stupid. Enjoy.

If you frame it as a Tea Party debate, then there is a different criteria for winning. While I share the cynicism that the Republican Party has been sort of handed over to the Frankstein's Monster that is the Tea Party, it's still, nominally at least, a Republican debate with members of the Tea Party in it. Or at least people willing to present themselves as Tea Party folk. For the Tea Party as the kernel from which they may have built themselves, Ron Paul could have walked on stage in a diaper bouncing a fish on his head and answered all the questions in a language he made up and there are still those 'true believers' who would say he won. So for that crowd, mostly people on the internet who apparently vote in small numbers because he hasn't managed to turn that following into votes, he always wins.

If Tea Party means regular ol' red meat boiler plate other cliche Republican base platform shit turned up to 11, you probably thought that it was down to Perry or Bachmann, depending on whether or not you get advice from gnomes.

As someone who wouldn't vote for any of them because I disagree on the base philosophy on which their platforms and policies are built, I thought Huntsman did well since he presented himself as an adult. I don't agree with his policy suggestions, however, I felt like he could have an adult conversation about it.

I guess if you were trying to play a numbers game...well, if you were doing that it didn't really matter what they said, you're looking at poll numbers and shit.

"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

Terrible manners. You don't debate politics at a tea parties. You do that at your own club, or at the pub with the riff-raff! Now try and pretend you're gentlemen.

Clearly Ron Paul did, because the CNN article I'm reading listed him as an "also-ran".

I just started. But given the last two debates, I'm expecting Jon Huntsman to kick arse.

People clapped when they heard Bachmann deride Perry for giving families the option to have vaccinations for cervical cancer at age 12.

Bachmann actually argued that such a shot for "innocent young girls" is a major fault of big government, either completely unaware of other vaccination programs required by public schools or unaware of just how shitty cervical cancer is.

I mean, I'm a Republican (by name only, I guess, as the party runs towards the starboard side of the ship) and I thought Bachmann should have gotten the hook for such a blatantly ignorant comment.
