Surely it would depend on the circumstances under which he signed the document as well.

If he signed it under a stressful emotional circumstance e.g. immediately after being given such bad news, or was unable to understand the full implications of the wording, etc, etc.
I'd be quite interested to hear an actual lawyers interpretation of the ways in which signing a legal document like this can be invalid. I'm in no doubt that there are a fair number
