Go On a Date with the Political Opposition to Save the World

Postby You-Gi-Owe » Sat Aug 22, 2009 7:46 pm

Here's the game:
Extra-Terrestrial Aliens are holding the world hostage, seeing if there is any hope for humankind's ability to cooperate.
To save the world, YOU have to go on a romantic date with a famous person who's political views are extremely opposite of your own.

1. Identify your political leanings (for the benefit of those that don't know you well).

2. Which politically opposed celebrity might you go out with and why?

3. If the politically opposed celebrity was picked by the Extra-Terrestrial Aliens, who would be the person you'd let the world burn for?

A1. I consider myself "conservative and Republican" or "arch-conservative and Republican.
A2. I could enjoy an evening with Barbara Streisand. Outside of movies, I've never heard her screech. She probably has a very interesting personal history. Maybe I could ask her to sing?
A3. The world could burn if I had to date Jenine Garafolo. I certainly don't share her sense of humor. I hate her voice. Probably the only thing we could agree to is pistols at twenty paces.

You have two choices for your dates: Adolf and Josef.

(I would absolutely choose Adolf!)

Good question. How about if you're centrist, you have to pick from everyone else's "let the world burn" list.

That range, I'm considered rarely anything outside that range. The first one is my own made up term, because I don't know the correct term, and just saying "Conservative" will cause me to explain it.

2. Which politically opposed celebrity might you go out with and why?

George W. Bush, just to see what it's like. And I know he's not a "celebrity" but who cares.

Or grave_n_idle, again, just to see what it's like.

Kind of one sided selections. Trying to find hot cons who would make a nice date is a tough idea. Palin would make my head hurt about 4 min into her talking. How about McCain's Daughter. She's kinda cute in a farm girl way and actually can hold a rational conversation.

I couldn't think of another conservative commentator who was a woman. Limbaugh and Beck were the only ones in my head. I'll be damned if I'm going on a date with Glenn Beck.

Far left/socialist.

Is Andrew Sullivan politically opposed enough? Probably not.

I'd resurrect Allan Bloom, and make him a few decades younger.

3. If the politically opposed celebrity was picked by the Extra-Terrestrial Aliens, who would be the person you'd let the world burn for?

Most of them.

Compared to the others? I'd marry and have three kids with Glenn Beck.

Why Alan Bloom, assuming the Aliens would resurrect him?
Also, please just choose one for "let the world burn" and explain why.

I think the government should stay out of private lives and get into business, so I'd end up dating Palin or Coulter. I'd manage, as I'd be able to steer the conversation to guns, the one area in which I land in the republican camp. There is no one I'd let the world burn for.

This one is too hard for me. I'm a liberal progressive. And female. I can think of a healthy list of rightwinger celebrities I would let the world burn rather than date even once -- and most of them are radio/tv talk show hosts.

But I can't think of a single rightwing celebrity I would choose to date. It's not just their politics -- it's that I think they're all so hideously unattractive as well as boring. Can't I just give the aliens my list of "Nevers" and let them pick my date from the names that are NOT on that list? Because me choosing -- not working out so good.

And check out my other RP, too. (Don't take others' word for it -- see for yourself. ;) )
I agree with Muravyets because she scares me. -- Verdigroth
However, I am still not the topic of this thread.
