Well all of Iraq smells like a latrine, mostly because the cities doesn't have sewers. Some people shoot at you, other praise you. Even some praise you then shoot at you. But more often they plant an IED then scour in there mother's home until the see a U.S. Vehicle. So we go in the house, break some shit the mother gives up her own son. He tends to run away, We chase then stop. We let him go, because if we go on a wild goose chase we get shot at by his friends. More vehicles come, they get hit by IEDs. Etc. Over and over again. That was on my first tour 3 years back, my second tour was nice enough. Sitting on base, talking with Iraqi Patrols, going back to base. Now the Third tour is going to be new experience, Afghanistan.

Native English speaker with a northern California accent. A years worth of Spanish and Japanese. Hopefully starting Arabic and Hebrew soon.

Too many languages, too little time.

I speak english for my native tongue( the American kind of course). I took Latin in High School and would like a refresher in the future because its been like 3 years of atrophy in my studies of the Mother Tongue.

I just got back from Japan and atrophy had done the same to my Japanese. I was able to say hello, order food, say it was delicious, and say good bye. This made for a lot of good meals but little other direct interation until I remembered all I had forgotten.

At least I don't have to worry about Romans criticizing my rudimentary knowledge of Latin. Seeing as how they aren't around anymore....
