Beer (and alcoholic drinks) in your nation

Postby Southern Patriots » Tue Jul 26, 2011 10:19 am

What are popular brands and drinks in your country?
Is alcohol legal?

In Southron it may be purchased at 18 but consumed with meals when you are 16 or 17.

The most popular beers include:
Lion

and Castle

Other popular non-beer drinks are scotch whisky and Amarula.

In Kalumba Boddingtons Bitter is the most popular brand.

Cider is also drunk alot because many of our people are cheapskates. Vodka and Whiskey are the main spirits drunk by our people. Wine is unheard of, except the local variety which by many foreign commentators has been likened to alcoholic vinegar.

Alcohol consumption is legal from 16, but the age for purchase is 18.

Alcohol consumption outside of religious or significant events has only recently become non-taboo. The legal age for purchase and consumption of alcoholic beverages is 14. Wine is mostly commonly drunk, particularly those grown and matured in Oterro, which are almost exclusively white.

Is it required by law that every citizen try whiskey, beer, vodka, scotch, tequila, and bicardy atleast once in their lifetime.

This is normaly done all in one night, on their 18th birthday.

They can then decide what they like the most.

In my country citizens are encouraged to drink and do drugs whenever they feel like it and in however large quantities they feel like. Ah, so fun being an insane dictator who lets people do mostly whatever. But there is a death penalty for growing a beard!

Scotch and tequila are very popular, although rum is starting to make a comeback. Wine is only used in religious ceremonies.

alcohol is legal for adults 20 and over as is tobacco we strictly enforce not only the age limit but have also been very strict about drunk driving. Primarily we have local beverages with few imports and most of them being expensive due to tariffs

All kinds of alcohol are legal in Terra Mariana. The official drinking age is 18, but is not strictly enforced. A minor caught in illegal acts while intoxicated will simply be tried as an adult, because tradition holds that someone who thinks he's old enough to do adult things must then also be old enough to accept adult responsibilities.

Marians have a taste for strong beer which would be termed ale in most other countries. Strong drinks are also popular. Cider and cocktails are less common among men, seen as women's drinks, but enjoy their share of popularity among mostly female customers. Wine too is seen as a drink of women and intellectuals.

Home-brewing and distillation is perfectly legal, although a license is required to legally sell the products, breaches resulting in considerable fines. In rural Terra Mariana, every family has it's own recipes of ale, fruit wine and moonshine, and considers it a matter of honour to put some on the table for guests.

A somewhat controversial product is Marian absinthe, the most narcotic substance legal in Terra Mariana. Along with it's content of thujone, it is often infused with small amounts of cannabis. Initiatives to ban it have met with stern opposition by the Distillers' Guild of Terra Mariana. The Emperor, himself rumored to enjoy this drink from time to time, has so far remained supportive of the distilling industry.

The current leader of distilling industry is Victory Spirits, Inc., known for their "Victory" brand of strong liquors.
Image

JSC "Aldaris" in turn is the largest brewery, providing the nation's most popular brands of beer.
Image

Despite the availability and popularity of alcoholic drinks, the sight of drunken Marians in the streets is still rather uncommon even on Friday nights, mainly due to drunk and disorderly conduct being treated rather harshly by the authorities, the offenders risking a very minimum of a severe beating and a night in jail. If you happen to have had a drink too much in a Marian pub, it is best to call for a cab to take you home. If approached by a police patrol, be polite, admit that you have drunk too much and ask them to take you home - seeing that you admit your errors and mean no harm, the officers will take you to the nearest cab.

Stout is by far the most popular beer style. There isn't any "most popular brand", as almost all beer is produced in small breweries and no brand is available in more than three provinces.
It should be noted that most people here don't consider beer to be a truly alcoholic drink, and it's not uncommon to see parents buying their sons and daughters stout (of course we are reasonable, very few people would give it to a 4 year old). So, according to the popular definition of "alcoholic beverage", the most popular kind would be whisky.

Aside imports of Bavarian and Australian beer and the rise of home-brew beers, Ouzo is an alcohol which is one of the symbols of Minoan culture.
