What is the status of woman in your country?

Postby The Godly Nations » Sun Aug 16, 2009 8:02 pm

Recently, the Commonwealth has now made it illegal to give one's wife a good beating if she fails hold her gob when ye ask her to. To mark this unprecedented progress in female freedom in our country, we ask all nation to describe the status of woman in their own countries, so that we may gloat about how much more emancipated our females are compared to your nation's female population.

The women of Pacific Pines are very liberated and are equal to men in all societal, business, and economic matters. Unlike the women of more "progressive" countries, however, Pacific Pinelander women do not get angry if a man holds a door open for them.

Full legal euqality, including recent permission to serve in all but a few military units. Social equality mostly so, though women tend to hold a supporting role in most families, and it is not uncommon to see men holding doors for women, etc... There are, however, numerous independent women.

Beatings of any kind are illegal and harshly punished, by the by. Even if you win in court, the social reactions can be...unpleasant.

A citizen of Fatatatutti is a citizen of Fatatatutti. In fact, we make little distinction between citizens and visitors, never mind between genders, races, etc.

A citizen is a citizen. Such silly notions of 'sexism' or even 'racism' are completely unprofitable and generally frowned upon.

The odd thing is that we don't even have any laws against either, it's just how the system ended up working. Discrimination isn't really an issue in Amn'Voss.

Technically, women are equal under the law... However, given the inept application of the judicial system, this is not so in practice.

Women are treated wonderfully.

They will work at the House raising their family, Cleaning etc. or they can become a Nun.
They must have their heads covered when out of the house. (Think "Little House on the Praire", not Afghanistan.)
Women are not allowed to serve in the Active Military.
They are to be treated with respect.

Women are held in a high-regard and are fully equal to men. Carnellian has had almost all female leaders in the past 100 years, due to the high ratio of women to men in the Elven populous.

Women are highly respected and almost thought of as superior to men in the Kingdom. Women are seen as stronger, keener, and more intelligent than men, and hold most of the top level positions in corporations and in the government. 58% of college students are woman, and it is typically the man that does the housework and cleaning, and other such stereotypically female chores, including child rearing. Basically anything a man can do and participate in, a women is by default able and allowed to do those things as well.

We have a great appreciation for individuality and uniqueness in Meridiani Planum, and women are regarded as sharing their personal uniqueness with others. While we certainly recognize that men are men and women are women (viva la difference!), and this may produce some psychological differences due to natural differences in brain structure, we tend to focus more on what an individual is really like, rather than falling back on stereotypes. For instance, we have more male engineers than female engineers, but this difference isn't driven by sexism, but by interest. We have female Senators and business leaders, so there really are no limits to what women can accomplish in society. No one feels that they have anything to prove by being a member of a particular sex, so we are relaxed about our sex differences.

Yeah, real wonderfull

In Bavin, terms such as Male and Female are not allowed in lawbooks, except for obvious circumstances. Words like race and ethnicity are banned, and the Bavinese language doesn't have a word for race.

In Phillippanoa women have often held positions of power (namely the 11 queens who ruled in their own right). In parlement the seats are usually equally split between men and women although either gender has often held a majority. Since the unification all citizens were equal, thus since women were considered citizens, they were equal as well.

In Feiti, all female humans, witches, mermaids and Humadas vampires share the highest level of civil rights - including the right to vote - whereas Dracadas vampire females have the right to vote but no other civil rights. Female pixies, elves, dwarves, trolls and goblins also have good civil rights, but generally do not take part in the voluntary parliamentary vote.

Issas is, and always has, been ruled by a woman. There is no discrimination against women, and all sexist crimes are widely looked down upon, to the point that those convicted of hate crimes or spousal abuse often prefer to go to jail as those that win their trials are still often ripped apart by mobs in the streets. Both genders are equally prevalent in the government and in positions of power. In most families housework is shared by both parents.

Women and men are considered equals in Yannia and not the 'equal' of many western societies, where men consider traditional women's jobs beneath themselves. Indeed, in Yannia, all work, including house work and rearing children, is equally shared between men and women.

What's the difference, other than in gradation?
Yannia's nation page contains an error. The population should be in millions, not in billions.

Our nation treats women as equal to all men. Women may join in the Armed Forces of Scverkiak if they wish. Women may go to public places without being asked to cover their faces and may sit beside any man, just as so there is no harassment to the woman/women. The DRSL (Democratic-Republican Scver Law) states that any harassment or abuse (both physical, psychological and sexual) to a women could give him/her at least 20-40 years in jail depending on the bad deed done and at least a lifetime in jail for rape, attempted rape and/or murder. Women are equal in law but not necessarily in society. Let me just c'n'p an explanation:

The different gender roles in Rejistania are not that easy to understand. Matriachic traditions for example are a reason why most first lentines of Rejistania were female. Men are expected to be good workers in certain areas like agriculture, construction and hunting, while women are expected to be the intelligent ones, the negotiators and the pillars of the culture (As the proverb goes: "The men of the kente ensure its existance, the women its unity.") People in unconventional positions are still looked at critically.

Apanii is a matriarchal society. Women are treated equally to men, if not a little better. They can hold any position, are able to be on active combat duty etc etc. There is no real "feminism" though as Apanii has always been a matriarchal society and thus, it's never been an issue.

All citizens are subject to Sharia Law. Strict Islamic law is followed for both males and females. Sharia gives both male and females specific roles in everyday life granting them responsibilities and limitations.
