WA members sharing computers?

Postby Free Pangea » Sun Jun 12, 2011 8:42 pm

Is there a way that more than one person can use the same computer and have separate WA nations? Heres what I have figured out based on what mods have said on how the system works:

-IP addresses are used (perhaps one person could use the neigbors' wi-fi?)
-Computer (this probably uses cookies. Perhaps one could clear them before the other gets on?)
I am sure there are more factors but I can't quite think of it.

Very long story short, WA nations are identified by IP addresses. If you switch off IP's, you should be fine. However, I STRONGLY STRONGLY STRONGLY recommend against doing this at all, due to the risk of *something* going wrong and buggering up your accounts.

I'm not a Moderator, but I would strongly recommend against pursuing this line of inquiry. While I am certain that your intentions are good, the policy has been clearly stated and the Modly attitude is "eject first, ask questions later". For a good reason, at that - exactly how is the Mod team supposedto know that you're two people sharing a computer, rather than one person trying to puppet your way into the WA?

Short version: You're not going to get very far asking for a policy change for this one - others have tried, and the answer has never changed from "Sorry, but no - we are not changing this policy".
Fuck it all. Let the world burn - there's no way roaches could do a worse job of being decent than we have.

There are most certainly more. And no, we aren't going to divulge them. If you think you can get around it, you're welcome to try, just don't come crying to us when you all get ejected.

They watch you with their cameras :)

In all seriousness, I think it's made quite clear that if you share a computer with other people, you can only have one WA between all of you, otherwise you will be ejected... And I'd put my money on you being caught. Not worth it.

I am not planning on making multiple accounts but I have talked to people who this would want to have their friends/family sharing a computer/internet connection. I firmly support the policy of no multiple WA accounts because otherwise people who have lots of time on their hands could make the system undemocratic. I just think there should be a way for people to share computers without getting in trouble.

We know, and we know that this is unfair to family/friends/dorm mates, but the fact of the matter is that we're really good at spotting machines with multiple WA nations in use from it but we cannot tell exactly who is behind those acounts. It may be indeed a family, it may be you and your dog, it may be a puppet master using the multis to gain power in a region. Since Max still won't pay for my suggestion of an elite ninja spy squad trained to check out the multis and deliver Heaven's Punishment to those in violation of the rules (Something about not being able to afford it/doesn't want to be dragged in front of the ICC), we're stuck on the one account per computer and all detected multies will be ejected from the WA.
