How do you start your own alliance or trade with your friends on this game? Are Countries allowed to declare war on each other?

You may start an alliance by going to The International Incidents Forum, and by posting a topic that describes your alliance, how it works, who are its members, how you apply, etc. You may trade in The Global Economics Forum by posting a topic that says you found vast reserves oil or gold or anything, and that you are placing that on the market. You may start a war by going to The International Incidents Forum, and Role Playing a war with someone and you have to have their information. You can get started by looking at the stickies on top of the page that says, Another Basic Guide To International Incidents. Any More Questions?

To start an alliance, simply place a post in the II section stating that you are doing so and invite others to join. it will, of course, help if you cna coem up with a Unique Selling Point for your allaicne such as suepr duper benefits or a unique idealogical slant.

Trade is all purely imaginary and is roleplayed.

And yes countries can declare war on each other and then roleplay the war, that pretty much what the International Incidnets forum is about.

But wars only happen if both sides' players agree to them, so that if you simply declare war on somebody without asking OOC first then they're perfectly free to ignore your efforts...

Population = just under 20 million. Economy = only Thriving. Average Life expectancy = c.60 years. If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.

Again its roleplayed and you make it up.

It would generally be assumed that your nation has a small percentage of its population in the armed forces, the exact percentage varies but tends to be about the 3% mark. Of coruse you don't need to use a fixed perentage you could work out how many you can aford by deviding your defence budget by 25-30% for the personnel budget and then working out how much each soldier woudl cost you per year (you can make rough esitmates using wiki's stats for various nations armed forces numbers and personnel budget and then use figures similar to that o a military you would like to emulate.

Equipment wise it is assumed that that your antion cna produce pretty much any existing Real Life(RL) bit of equipmment it likes to equip it's armed froces however it does generally help to choose stuff that would fit your nation's economy (i.e. currently you look like a third world country so liekly no F-22 flying around).

You cna buy custom stuff from the various tore front sin this ection of the forum but you don't need to and i woudl advsie against buying "RL" stuff unless you roleplay your antion as having no real industrial capability.

As for what you can afford from store fronts you would be using a percentage of your defence budget which cna be figured out uisng website like NS Dossier:
