History:

The Greater Empire of Groess

Formed from discontented states within Imperiya, the Greater Empire of Groess was formed in 1606 under the leadership of Kaiser Karl der Soldat (Charles the Soldier), of the powerful Feidt family, and existed until his death in 1609. Though its independence was short, its power was great. It successfully fought off the Imperiyan Tsardom and forged its own sphere of influence. Upon the Kaiser's death his sons fought over who would control Groess. After a brief conflict they decided to split the Empire amongst themselves, and ten separate kingdoms were formed.

The War of the States and Unification

By 1784 the largest and most powerful of the former Groess states was the Kingdom of Preuss. Preuss, ruled by Koenig Wilhelm I, a son of House Feidt, had swallowed up the neighboring kingdoms of Bayern and Danube, setting the stage for a confrontation with the equally as powerful kingdoms of Franc-Silesa and Dietmar. The three states went to war, and the War of the States began. By 1786 the war had turned in favor of Preuss, with Franc-Silesa falling. As Preussen forces marched on their capital, the Dietmar Koenig, Albrecht III, requested assistance from the Imperiyan Empire. Imperiyan forces joined in the final battle, but to no avail. Dietmar capitulated on 10 June. Two days later Wilhelm was crowned the first Kaiser of the Holy Empire of Groesland.

Today

Groesland has gone through many trials and tribulations. Under the guidance of House Feidt and the Great Church, they've expanded greatly. They once encompassed the entirety of Imperiya's northern border, but the English speaking states of the east threw off Groeslander rule in 1804. Today Groesland, though considered small to its neighbors, enjoys great influence and prestige, and may one day become a formidable military power.

Geography

Compared to its neighbors Groesland isn't particularly diverse in terms of geography. The northern and southern portions of the country are rather large mountains ranges known for cold weather and wonderful skiing. The central portion of the country was once wetlands and plains, but mass industrialization has changed them into rain soaked countryside intermingled with bustling urban centers. The western and eastern border areas and known famously as the West und Ost Walden, massive forests that once housed wild bandits, and now house nature-loving hikers.

Government

Groesland is an absolute monarchy ruled by Kaiser Wilhelm VI of House Veidt, who has reigned since his coronation on 22 July 1971. His consort is Kaiserin Catherine of Dietmar. The Crown Prince, Maximilian, has recently been appointed his heir, and as such has many political responsibilities. Among these is his recent appointment as Grand Commander of the Imperial Armies, a spot previously held by his father. The Royal Family resides primarily in the Imperial Palace in Censtadt. The Reichstag is the government body of noblemen from the states of Groesland. The Imperial Diet, a cabinet chosen by the Kaiser, is as follows:

The power of the Great Church, a pagan body, is near absolute, second only to that of the Kaiser who acts as the Chruch's Supreme Prophet. As such the Church also holds many political offices, and the Church's administrative head, the Grand Prophet, is a member of the Diet. The current Grand Bishop is Friedrich Odenbach.
