Gender income equality issue

Postby Polononia » Sat May 07, 2011 11:13 am

I am utterly appalled at the way that game works and how it treats economic issues in the strangest of ways.

Yesterday, I got an issue stating the income disparity between Men and Women in the workplace in my country. Among the choices, one was to set an equal standard of pay between the sexes and offer the same opportunities for everyone. I of course picked this option, only to log in today to see to my astonishment that because of my decision for job equality, my economy had tanked, and a rise in civil and political rights was negligible.

I for one do not care about my performance based on this decision, but I am livid over the fact that because a Woman gets equal pay and equal rights in the workplace, the economy suffers as if it were a recession or a union strike, but in reality it's because women got a small increase in pay and for some reason that makes logical economical sense. I for one do not understand why increasing a person's salary, which raises their standard of living and allows people to spend more, which also stimulates the economy and would create more jobs if anything. I do not appreciate this kind of sexism and gender discrimination in real life, nor do I think it should be acceptable over internet medium. I ask the moderators of this site take a look at this and realize that discrimination such as this is not fair, not matter how trivial and funny it may seem. Sexual discrimination has no place in the 21st century or on this site.

You're confusing a moral stance on the issue versus its economic consequences.

If ones economy relies on cheap labor to be available, then prices will jump when there no longer is cheap labor available. it doesn't matter whether that cheap labor comes from women, slaves, illegal Mexican immigrants, or simply poor people without a union to obtain a decent minimum wage. Eventually the higher wages will indeed lead to higher demand as well, but that'll take a bit longer than the near instantaneous jump in price levels.

Very good assessment.

I am seeing an increase in threads about sexism, and I've been on this site for only 3 weeks! What's all this about?

From a word to a word I was led to a word,
From a work to a work I was led to a work."

I enjoy meta-humor and self-deprecation. Annoying, right?

Goodbye.

If you think a issue is unjustify, just suggest a change in the consequence of a issue
