Injuries Sideline Points Leader, Carlisle

After two separate incidents at the Texas World Speedway, points leader Zach Whitt and driver of the #27 Valvoline Oldsmobile Reggie Carlisle have suffered injuries that will force them to miss the next few races. These incidents come shortly after Darren Wolfgang was severely injured at the same speedway and still remains on life support.

Carlisle's incident saw him turn over on his roof in turn one after making contact with the outside wall, then being struck by another car sending him on his roof once again. He required assistance to get out of his car, but was conscious and talking with safety personnel as he was extricated from the hospital.

Zach Whitt's incident saw him turn over on his roof and struck twice, dangerously close to the driver's compartment. He was also conscious as he was extricated from his car, but was clearly dazed by both hits.

Both drivers are expected to miss three or four races. The 27 car won't run until Carlisle's return, while the #57 car will bring on O. J. Miller as a relief driver until Whitt is healthy again.

Brian had slowly been building up his reputation. One way or another, he was justifying that his great effort in the last race was not simple luck. In the first race, he had managed to maintain a top three position again in the qualifyer. It was said by Ian Fleming that once is happenstance; twice is coincidence; and thrice is enemy sabotage. Replace "sabotage" with "willpower and skill" and it would describe what was happening. At that time, he was a coincidence. He had managed to finish with less than 1-and-a-half seconds seperating him from first place at the end of the race. Some were starting to question calling him a "flash-in-the-pan". He tried to remain collected even as he was excited about a top-three finish in this qualifyer, for he did not want to get over-confident, and cause a second failure.

When the race began, it was clear that he was not going to give up easily. His driving was aggressive, for he was not going to give up his chance at justifying his career to himself. Before the last qualifyer where he got second, he had a struggle within himself over his career since he had trouble justifying it to himself instead of getting a more reliable job. He did have motives for racing, and money was one of them beyond a general love of the sport. When things took a turn for the better, that's when Bramwell knew he could not give up just yet. Instead, he was going to keep striving for it.

It was a close race all things considered. Even if he was the front runner, it was close race. He had been in constant competition for a large portion of the race to maintain the leading position. His main competition was Mr. Rastetter, for he was the most consistent threat to his victory in the race. He had to fight to get to the pole position, maintain it, and gain it back when lost, for there were others that were close. When he managed to maintain first place for the last lap of the race, he became estatic when he won. Now, he did not have to maintain focus, for now was a time to celebrate. He did not have to focus on the race anymore. He had won a race, and he was estatic over what had happened. He knew he had more races up ahead and that he had goals to racing, but now something had changed about the way he thought about racing. Now, he was no longer worried about the money. Instead, he could think of it in much the same manner when he used to race out of fun rather than as a career. Things were looking up for Bramwell, and he was loving every minute of it.

Thriller

Bruce Callan edged out Thomas Arnalout, Rowan Hunter, and Ron Brotske in the closest finish in WAC Open Wheel racing history, edging out Arnalout by just nine points. It may be the most exciting of the WAC's Championship Weekend, as Calvin Keller leads by 207 points over second place Rick Handle in the Grand National Series. Handle will need to win and lead the most laps in order to have a shot at winning.

Keller Fails Inspection, Handle Wins Title

Rick Handle needed a lot to win the Grand National title: he needed to win the Upstate 500, lead the most laps, and needed Calvin Keller to finish out of the points.

That didn't happen.

But Calvin Keller's Lorenzo Panther failed post race inspection: the 19 car failed to meet the minimum height and weight, failed to meet the proper spoiler height, and contained unapproved engine parts. Each infraction warranted a 50 point penalty. Keller was reportedly furious, yelling and screaming at a WAC official. As a result of his actions the 19 team was fined $50,000 and Keller was placed on probation.

Rick Handle was ecstatic, celebrating the title win by doing burnouts on the front straight.

"This is incredible!" Handle said in victory lane. "We worked so hard and had to overcome so much, from the engine failure at Daytona to missing out on wins to other mechanical problems; all the credit in the world to my crew for making this happen."

Aqunii Hyu'Tojerii won the Upstate 500, leading the most laps and gaining the maximum 220 points in her 3rd(?) career victory.
