History:
Stanthemanistania has an illustrious history. A powerful empire for almost one thousand years, Stanthemanistania was seen as both a glorious empire and a thorn in the side of those who wished to see more progress. Stanthemanistania was an absolute monarchy under the empire. The Emperor handled everything from laws to the economy. Because of this, the economy suffered, while the monarchy became increasingly rich. Feeling increasing pressure that might escalate into violence, the last Emperor, Alexander XI, negotiated an exit in 2010, and the country finally began the much sought after political reforms. The nations unity was not without its losses, however, because several former subjects of the Empire began to declare independence, most notably Inferes Civitas, which lies to the country's south. There have been great strides to keep the nation together.
Today, Stanthemanistania is a federation of eighteen semi-autonomous "republics". Each "republic" maintains its own laws and affairs, as long as they don't conflict with the Federal constitution, while the Federal government deals with mutual defense, diplomacy and taxation. The nation's President is directly elected ever six years and is limited to one term. The President holds considerable power, but passes most of his responsibilities off to the First Minister, who is elected by House of Delegates and confirmed by the Executive Council, which is made up of the Chief Executives from all eighteen republics.
The people of Stanthemanistania are optimistic, but cautious. They eagerly await the transformation of their country into an economic powerhouse with great political freedoms. They are cautious, however, because there remains great instability, with many regions wanting to declare independence and wide spread government corruption.
