Epics of your Nation

Postby Phalnia » Fri Apr 15, 2011 9:08 pm

In Phalnia the epic poems of long ago have reemerged as bestsellers. The most popular being:
1. Cino's Aljorn. This is the tale of the founders of Phalnia who sailed to the land aboard the Aljorn.
2. Caecilius's Destruction of a City. The story of a natural disaster that ended a city and the tales of those who survived.
3. Palo's God Strikes. A telling of the first Internal Crusade centered around one crusader.

So, does your nation have any well known epic poems. If so how popular are they? What are they about?
(OoC: Props to anyone who recognizes the 2nd author.)

We don't have Epic Poems per se, though the Dragons, Khalkans, and Serpens have a few of their own.

Our entire early history is recorded in epic cycles.

The Ionradh-Sinsear tells of the coming to the land we now live in, and the wresting of it away from the old Gods.
The Ré Orga details the first united kingdom, ending with its second part, the Beanna-Eitilte, which tells of its fall.
The Aiose-na-Fola is a collection of multiple epics detailing heroes and battles during the first long period of civil wars
The Airm Óir cycle tells of the invasion of Cnoc Coir by a vast and mighty empire, and the resistance to it, ending in the heroic victory of the Cnoc'Rea.
The Ríocht Mhór cycle focuses around one particular king and his short dynasty after the fall of the invading empire of the Airm Oir, and deals with the invasion of another tribal group.
Thuaidh-Amhran is a single epic detailing the arrival of the clan that would later become the Dubh Ghall, during the Richt Mhor period.

Here the epic cycles end and a more steadily recorded history begins, showing Cnoc Coir at this time to be a largely divided land of clans.

There are many of them but the most famous is the "Evoran Trilogy"

Nobody knows when or by who it was written. It is set buring antiquity and is about Feurkus. A traveler who stars a journey across Savedland (then called Evora) to find something for him worth living for. The first sroty is called "The Emerald Path", the second is called "The Diamond Island" and the last one is called "The Sapphire Stairwell"

So what do you think? Will you read it?

The United Federated Districts of Hevora. Or Savedland, as it is often hideously anglicized...

We are a large, free, powerful and beautiful country with a very long history that stretches back thousands upon thousands of years.

We are a union of many nations and cultures. The most dominant and shared by almost everyone is that of the Hevoran (Savedlish) People. It has its roots lying in an ancient creole culture that emerged from extensive contact between a bronze age hellenic and norse civilization which evolved convergeantly on an fictional, alternate universe Earth.

Bit weird, I know. But we're a lovely culture if you care enough to get to know us! :D

Is the second author the Caecilius from the CLC Latin books? If so you must be referring to the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in Pompeii?

Our great epic is 'The Flowers of the Forest' by David McClintock. It is about one of the great battles during the expansion of the Empire when a few Kingstonian troops held off against an army of North-Western Territory tribesmen.

Some old epics are allowed, although most are suppressed for promoting anti-socialist thought.

Legal epics:
1) Nordbonden - A tale of a farmer who gets enough of his landlord, kills him and forms a sort of primitive cooperative. He is then killed by neighbouring landlords. Legal for actually being proto-socialist.
2) Mannasagan - A tale of a band of warriors who carves out a puppet-kingdom in what is now southeastern New Freedomstan. Is legal for promoting progressive ideals like every man is equal and rights to women.

Illegal epics:
1) Wotan's Saga - The tale of the old-god Wotan. Illegal for promoting religion as well as the idea of aristocracy.
2) War of Three Cities - The tale of three warring city-states, which ends up with the plutocratic oligarchy winning out over both the pseudo-democratic city-state and the Machiavellian benelovent dictatorship. Banned for promoting the idea of oligarchy as more efficent than "plebs rule".

1) Ildriner's Calatas' Cleansing, telling the tale of a man of the Principles who, disgraced and dishonored, at the urging of his masters, takes up the sword and embarks on an internal Crusade across Dystara. The man, the one the people know by the Atamuric name "Calatas", meaning "him spurned", slays a string of alleged dissenters, heretics, blasphemers, rebels, spies, liberals, terrorists, separatists, and other such things for - and this, unofficially, is a bit hard to swallow - half an hour less than a year, when he and his band of zealots are defeated in a relatively bloodless battle by an alleged blasphemer, separatist and rebel named Ud'nue o Da Liithe. At swordpoint Calatas learns that he, who as an addition to his "penance" is conveniently forbidden contact with the outside world and all but his band and masters, have been systematically executing the Decemvirate's spies.

Following this, Calatas covertly returns to Ar Rorselii with o Da Liithe's blessing, friendship, and promise that he will be following, and quietly begins making plans to depose the true heretics from power. The capital of Dystara is at this point a wasteland, the atheist Decemvirate having sucked it dry for their own benefit. Calatas finds little difficulty in raising an army from the streets and storming the Palace in a final, decisive battle to end the epic nicely.

Unsurprisingly, the Cleansing is advertised by the government, is shown in primary schools, is state-funded whenever it's performed, and is the first result returned for the keywords "epic", "cleansing", "rebels", "dissenters", "rebellion", and "uprising".

name of Buy do-Craah, in the name of Merard, in the name of Farrant, and in the name of all who gave of themselves for us and for Dystara.
State - Theoretically theocratic three-tier aristocracy of alliterators
Government - Tathate under Diodovote of 10
Population - 118,910,000 (1731
PP/2012 CE estimate)
Calendar - Parrah me-Nitringi (

Many epics are preserved in the rich Rominirric oral and literary traditions.

Arguably the most famous epic of Talath Romina is The Lay of Aglarost, a lyric poem detailing the founding of the ancient capital city and the events surrounding its construction.
"But wandering in the summer in the woods of Neldoreth he came upon Lúthien, daughter of Thingol and Melian, at a time of evening under moonrise, as she danced upon the unfading grass in the glades beside Esgalduin. Then all pain departed from him, and he fell into an enchantment; for Lúthien was the most beautiful of all the Children of Ilúvatar."

There are the scattered bits of the Old Ways, and the mythological epics contained there in, plus the Stories of the Hillfolk, which are some thing like epics, but more inconsistent between tellings usually based around Feuds and raiding, and told over alcohol.

Imperial Aaronia's history is rich in poetry and there are many epics and sagas. The most prominant is Hakilorius' Trinities which tells of the foundation of the first Kingdom under the ruler Arin. Another is Hakilorius' Tombs which documents some of Aaronia's first Saint's Lives.

My country's epic is the, "Piece Motif," or Epic of Time.

It's a continuous record of our peoples history, from the beginning of our founding to current times.

It tells of the 7 Nomads who traveled across the world and eventually founded Ginjeet.

So, it's more or less a historical story written in poem.

The Quest of the Knight Sir Teutlor- Written in 1105 it is in fact a parody of the common heroic epic, with the protagonist repeatedly failing in his quests, generally snatching defeat from the jaws of victory due to his own incompetence, frequently being badly injured.

Aethelwulf- Written in 845 it is about a warrior named Aethelwulf who is raised by wolves and adopted by the chieftain of a tribe. Although no one knows it he is the son of a pagan god of war and uses his super human strength to defeat several monsters and do several acts to show his strength. In the end he is killed by the god of death.

Though we have many that have survived the Purification and Purge, the most forefront of them shall be listed:

1) The Tale of the First Clan -- A story detailing the formation of the first Ceann clan, named Ceann Teaghlaigh (Ceann Family). It describes the story of Sráidbhailte Beaga, or Small Village, the undisputed mythical founder of the Ceann people, and her struggle to unite the various tribes and small groups into a united Ceann people.

2) The Forefront Stories -- A collection of tales, stories and myths telling the story of one Gortaigh Lámh, and his travels across Ceannairceach, attempting to bring honor and civilization to those who lived in barbarity. He is considered the basis of the Ceann Doctrine.

3) An Trodaire Deiridh Sean(The Final Old fighter) -- The story of Sean Cathrach, also known as the Final Old Fighter, and his final battle in an attempt to seek justice for the death of his neighbor's daughter. It is seen as, perhaps, the best story in all of Ceannairceach, as it deals with the issues of an elderly man who grew up in war but was forced into retirement, and this old mans idea of a "final good fight" to end his days with, something worthy to march off one last time for.
