Sadly, experiences with Oblivion and various other games have led me to the conclusion that while the modern gaming industry is very good at advertisements, trailers and hype, they sort of suck at making games.

I'll withhold judgment, however, until it comes out.

I hope they've fixed the main (non-elf related) flaw of Oblivion, which was that it was extremely boring. Then I might buy it.

At least the architecture is from Generic Northern/Viking Locale #4235, instead of Generic Fantasy Locale #9135. The Viking stereotype hasn't appeared much in games, so at least it's a refreshing change from the generic-ness that was Cyrodil.

I pretty much don't remember any advertising or that much hype over Oblivion. Anyway, Fallout 3 was far better and more enjoyable than Oblivion.

It's one of the three or so games I'm looking forward to getting this year.

While I found Oblivion enjoyable enough through the first play-through, it couldn't even hold a candle to Morrowind or even post-bugfix Daggerfall. I hope they don't make a habit of "Prettier, but less fun overall".

It's not that boring, the game actually makes you work for what you want to do.

Can't wait. :) By that time I'll hopefully have upgraded my computer by then. I could probably run it with no problems now but I hate Vista and would like a couple more sticks of RAM for the hell of it.

Meh.
I tried TES:4, and I couldn't really get into it, so I'm not very hyped about this.
Although it's nice to hear that the game engine that TES V is using isn't gamebryo.

It's because it never happened.

I intend on building a new rig specifically for Skyrim.

Bethesda make great RPGs.

This game looks cool, but I'm more for Fallout.

I'm American, and I don't even remember seeing an advertisement for Oblivion.

I just popped into the computer games aisle one day, and saw it sitting on the shelf. "Hey, look! TES IV is out!"

I don't think it does, particularly. It was just a bit dull and bland. The generic setting and lack of interesting characters (who mostly all had the same voices) really killed any sense of immersion.

If you're one of those people who likes just to run around killing random NPCs and stealing things for 200 hours, then it's probably the best game ever, but I don't really get how that is supposed to be entertaining.

I enjoyed Oblivion hugely. Still do in fact.

While I think that overall Morrowind was better I hope that Skyrim combines the best of both games. I'm looking forward to it.

Morrowind was a great game also, the only two downsides were the cliff racers and the speed of your character. I mean it seemed that every time i played I had to choose the Steed as my sign, or I used console command to get speed up to 100. I do think the story line was better than oblivions though. Every time I play the game I laugh at how Bethesda tried to get the knee movement of the characters.
