Should I learn to play right handed? Or get a left-handed instrument? I'm a new learner so I haven't developed any learned habits yet.

Playing upside down works if you're only playing on the lowest 5 positions, but if you're playing in the 20th position you might be out by several semitones.

Depends on the guitar - most electric guitars will have adjustable bridges to correct this. You would need a new nut probably, so the strings don't buzz, and there are problems with asymetrical heads like a stratocaster/telecaster. There are also likely to be problems with the volume and tone controls and the pick up selection switch being in an awkward place, the cutaways on some designs might make playing in higher positions diificult. Acoustic guitars would probably be more of a problem in terms of the bridge.
