[PASSED] Commend Mikeswill

Postby Unibot II » Wed Apr 13, 2011 9:32 pm

Commend Mikeswill
A resolution to recognize outstanding contribution by a nation or region.

Category: Commendation | Nominee: Mikeswill | Proposed by: Going Postal

Description: The World Assembly:

IDENTIFIES the nation The Mikes Hope Essence of Mikeswill, the World Assembly Delegate of the region NationStates,

NOTES NationStates is a founderless region, which makes it vulnerable to invasions.

APPLAUDS the dedicated service to the World Assembly by representing the region NationStates for over 6 years as the WA Delegate without losing the Delegate seat to any foreign hostiles,

IMPRESSED that everyday The Mikes Hope Essence of Mikeswill has featured a random nation in the regional World Factbook Entry and on the Regional Message Board without exception or prejudice,

RECOGNIZING The Mikes Hope Essence of Mikeswill as one of the most dedicated nations in the world,

COMMEND The Mikes Hope Essence of Mikeswill based on the appraisals mentioned above.

The World Assembly hereby commends The Mikes Hope Essence of Mikeswill.

I didn't see thread started for this.. so... here's one.

I'm FOR, but only because of the bittersweet irony. Anyone who has had their commendation or condemnation stomped on by Mikeswill is seeing justice with this vote. ;)

While 6+ years in the Delegacy of a region is quite the accomplishment, I'm missing a bunch of information here...

1. How has his reign been? Oppressive? Democratic?
2. Did it require outside help to remain in power?
3. What else does he do as Delegate? Does he help new nations?

As for the claim of featuring random nations in the WFE: it indeed goes back a long time. My records indicate late november 2004. But in the beginning it wasn't random at all, it only read "Home of The Delicious Aroma of Utmost Brownies" until July 2005, and that nation was placed in the picture more than others (I'm sure there must've been a good reason). Which is all to be expected, mind you, people DO go on vacation. It's ok. Still it overall shows quite the dedication and activity, definitely praiseworthy, but the proposal would IMHO be stronger if the text of the commendation hadn't veered off into making a false claim (the "without exception or prejudice" part is too strong a clause, and the facts in my archive conflict with that claim). And it wouldn't hurt to go a bit more into detail about Mikeswill reign.

The Security Council is not really the appropriate body to manage this. If Mikeswill had done something truly above and beyond the call of duty, such as defending the nation from invasion, then we would consider this more. Merely being the head of a region for an extended period of time is not enough to merit the commendation and time of the Security Council.

I'm going to assume you mean region here. If that's the case, then yes, he has done this. I know that region was a target on multiple occasions.

That being said, I've never had a problem with MW. But I would really like to hear what those in his region say, because they've had the most interaction with him and would be able to shed the most light on his accomplishments instead of what we have here (which is kind of broad I think) and interactions with some players here. I would really like to see someone from the region Nationstates come and give more specifics.

And I would've really liked to see this on the draft stage before it was submitted, lol.

THIS RESOLUTION MAKES NO SENSE, AND EXPLICIT CONTRADICT ITSELF.
IT CLEARLY STATES THAT THE REGION IS VULNERABLE TO INVASION, WHICH SHOWS LACK OF COMPETENCE OF THE NATION MIKESWILL...
AND WE STILL WANNA "DECORATE" THIS LEADER>>>>

Firstly, it’s a pretty vague resolution that really fails to highlight why they deserve a commendation. It’s not the most shining moment of resolution writing we’ve seen, but far from the worst either.

Mikeswill is certainly a controversial figure in NationStates, even more so when he was formerly known as Mikes Hope (before being deleted by the Mods in 2004 for crossing the line). During the rapid growth of his region, soon after its inception, he was a very aggressive recruiter and this rubbed a few people the wrong way. More than a few people thought the choice of name for his region to be a bit presumptuous. He got into arguments with some of these people and like a few other of NationStates’ more passionate personalities got caught going a bit too far.

He came back to NationStates and his region as Mikeswill, where he’s had a strong influence ever since and has put in a lot of work to make his region thrive. In many ways he’s been similar to Tito of Yugoslavia, carrying out careful diplomacy with invaders to safeguard against them, due to the founderless status of the region of NationStates. Sometimes the extent of his diplomacy with invaders has even caused him to be viewed with suspicion. A lot of people really don’t know what to make of him or his region because of this balancing act he’s carried out over the years.

In what little contact I’ve had with him over the years, he’s been nothing but helpful and polite. I would certainly like to see him commended on the basis of being an important personality of the game and for the work he’s done to make his region a long-term fixture in the NationStates World.

So, I checked the man's region, and it says the nation is against the Security Council. Which leads me to ask...Why the FUCK would we give him a commendation from a council he doesn't even recognize?

I'll have to vote against on this one. It doesn't make sense, and he probably doesn't want to win this. If he does, he's nothing more of a hypocrite, and he's still getting my against vote.

I was wondering this. I can't even count how many times he has left messages in these forums with the general undertone of "fuck the SC and everything it does" in his posts. Attempting to discuss the matter with him is impossible as well.

I have also checked his nation. If commended, I don't see why he would appreciate the commendation or, in the very least, want to win it in the first place. He remains undeserving, in my eyes.

Eh, after further research, I've found it's usually due to large feeder delegate nations voting 'Yes.' The lemming effect is highly overrated, and only occurs if no large feeders have already thrown their vote in--otherwise it just adds overkill to a feeder delegate victory.

While I can very much appreciate the irony, I'm not familiar enough with the region or the nation Mikeswill to really say whether they're deserving of it or not. So I will simply abstain.

The irony is pretty funny though.

Was going to abstain, now voting against. Why?

1) TGing Mousebumples, regardless of disagreements in the past, MB's region has a policy against this and we stand up for that.
2) Also, Mikeswill has remained delegate for a long time, way too long without elections, that hardly makes him commendable.
3) Bans nations that are more popular than him.
4) Bans nations that make criticisms on the regional RMB

AGAINST
For a democratic republic of England, Scotland and Wales.
Real EU reforms: All power to the European parliament! And a democratically controlled ECB!
Level up wages and conditions, industrial unions on a European scale and for the free movement of labour
Abolish the European Council of Ministers
Abolish the EU commission and towards a Communist Party of the European Union.

The endorsement process is a democratic election. Mikeswill gets the most endorsements, he gets to be delegate. It's that simple.

3) Bans nations that are more popular than him.
4) Bans nations that make criticisms on the regional RMB

Surely you have evidence to support these allegations? The NationStates Banlist currently has only five nations on it.

I have voted for, because I too prize irony. Might be a little too much irony in my case, since I lobbied so hard to have my own region's commendation revoked, but there you have it. Mike, you're the kind of guy the Security Council can really dig... [lowly, to self:] a grave for!
