Things to do when you have no money...

Postby Rasselas » Sat Aug 01, 2009 3:23 pm

I'm off work until 25th August, and aside from heading up to the Edinburgh Fringe for a few days, I have no plans. Not working means I'm not getting paid, which means I can't do many things that involve spending money. And I have no intention of sitting around playing computer games all day.

So... what are some entertaining things I can do that won't cost a fortune? What do you do to stave off boredom?

(note: I'm in Manchester and it's been raining forever, going out to enjoy the sun is not an option)

This is more Forum 7.

But to answer the OP, start a coin collection. It can be as expensive or inexpensive as you want it to be.

Whitworth Art Gallery, MOSI, Cube, Artzu, Manchester Art Gallery and numerous others.

All good ways to waste an afternoon and free to boot.

You could also run through the fountains in Piccadilly gardens, that's fun in any weather.

I spend most of my free time in the art gallery and MOSI... although I haven't been to the Whitworth in a very long time, it's a little out of my way. That's where I'll be going tomorrow then!

So it was all a test! Now I feel like a lab rat.

Sex is free if you got a girl who doesn't mind you being broke. Otherwise it cost money to whine and dine a girl, or cost money for a hooker.

Assuming where you live has a train service, buy a train ticket to somewhere and ride the trains all day. I did that once. It was mildly amusing.

When you're in school it's basically free. :p

True, and if you play guitar like me you can get them to pay for you.

In answer to the OP go traveling and do is drive to some place of your choosing... France maybe? And work for your board. You don't make any money but they provide you a place to sleep and eat so you don't have to spend a whole lot of money traveling. Or a Euro-Train pass. You could stay in youth hostles or others.

Ha, if you're going up North, get off at Newcastle and take the Metro to Tynemouth. That's free. (Well not the metro, that's 1.80 or something). You can walk along the beach, walk along the great piers, go see Admiral Collingwood's monument, visit the Castle (well okay that's like three pounds or something), and go visit the fish Quay. Plus if you are really unlucky you'll get to have sex with some minger or something

Actually if the weather is nice it's not a horrible day out.

The kind of middle-class mentality which actuates both those responsible for strategy and government has little knowledge of the new psychology and organizing ability of the totalitarian States. The forces we are fighting are governed neither by the old strategy nor follow the old tactics.

Go to the library, or a bookstore with a coffee shop. You could easily spend an entire day there.
