South Califas Roller Hockey Internationale-Everything Thread

Postby Free South Califas » Tue Jun 26, 2012 6:18 pm

Hello and welcome to the inaugural South Califas Roller Hockey Internationale!

Please see the OOC & signups thread here: http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=187452

As of now, you have until 0900, Thursday, June 28th, 2012 PST (California) to post your rosters and initial RPs, pending any reasonable objections to the contrary. That being said, the roster bonus refreshes at every cutoff, so if you don't post one before this "deadline", you will get credit for it whenever you do decide to post one later, and for all subsequent games. This also means that you can improve your roster and get more of an RP bonus out of it throughout the tournament, and this is encouraged. Could be a convenient place to keep a running list of results, just a suggestion...

Four groups of four; round robin X 4; each team will play 12 games. Top two from each group qualify.
From there, it will be a double-elimination knockout formula, similar to the College World Series (of USA baseball):

After game 1 - four teams are 1-0 and play in the winner's bracket; four teams are 0-1 and play in the loser's bracket
After game 2 - two teams ("A" and "B") are 2-0 and play each other; four teams are 1-1 and play in the loser's bracket; two teams are out at 0-2.
After game 3 - one team is 3-0, three teams (including "A" or "B") are 2-1, two more teams are out at 1-2.
Game 4: The leader plays the lowest-seeded 2-1 team that is not "A" or "B". The other two remaining teams play each other.
Game 5: If three 3-1 teams remain, the former leader plays against the team that did not just beat them. The team which loses this game will finish in third place. If only two teams remain, the ones that just got knocked out play each other for 3rd place.
Game 6: The two remaining teams contest the trophy in the final.

The group draw will take place shortly, and will occur entirely at random across the four groups. If a 16th non-puppet nation joins the tournament by the deadline on Wednesday at 0900, that draw will be scrapped and a new one will be done randomly. (EDIT: This all happened.) Thanks for playing!

Group Draw, for reals this time

Postby Free South Califas » Wed Jun 27, 2012 11:14 am

The Great Pluricultural Harrikia of Euskirribakondara has joined the South Califas Roller Hockey Internationale tournament and the Executive Committee and the Planning Committee of the Roller Hockey Internationale.

To reflect this, Urbis Tractus has been removed per the provisional entry agreement, and the groups have been redrawn. Since there is no active international ranking system that I'm aware of, I drew them entirely at random using xkoranate's randomizer function in the group entry page.

Group A
Boyznichov
Cosumar
Lymantatia
Anollasia

Group B
Bordurian
Free South Califas
Mianeiacs
TaQud

Group C
Euskirribakondara
Licentiapacisterra
Western Democrotic Germany
Whittoria

Group D
Mangolana
Savski Venac
Vettrera
Michael VII

Also, in passing 12FA/SCR128, the Sporting Committee of the Twelfth Federal Assembly of the Communities and Economies of Free South Califas has published an official factbook on the committees of the Roller Hockey Internationale in an act of goodwill toward the tournament and the International Events Committee of the City Assembly of Huntington Beach. The factbook is intentionally bare-bones, so that the Executive Committee of the Roller Hockey Internationale can democratically choose what to add to the official RHI factbook later, especially if there is a constitution written or a president elected.

Best of luck to all competitors, and please enjoy your stay in Huntington Beach!

If Proposition 2 wins, this will be the schedule, pending objection from any member of the Executive Committee:
June 28 - Group stage MD1,2
June 29 - MD3,4
June 30 - MD5,6
July 1 - MD7,8
July 2 - MD9,10
July 3 - MD11,12

July 4 - a day off to contemplate the horrible crimes of settler colonies and the "democracies" that claim their heritage. IC, there will be a farmer's market at The Rinks all day, including a number of plants that are or should be illegal in your country, punctuated by free skates, pickup games and international friendlies.

July 5 - Double-elimination MD1
July 6 - MD2: four teams in winner's bracket, four teams in loser's bracket
July 7 - MD3: both 2-0 teams play each other; four teams play each other in loser's bracket; two are gone
July 8 - MD4: first semifinals
July 9 - MD5: third place game, which might also be a semifinal
July 10 - Grand Final

As a reminder, we are still voting on Propositions 1, 2 and 3 here as well as in the OOC thread and by TG. The schedule above is proposed only if Proposition 2 wins, and has been sketched out because Proposition 2 currently enjoys the lead. If Prop 1 takes the lead, a schedule will be generated for it. Separately, the proposed schedule above can be voted on; any member of the Executive Committee (participant in this tournament) may open voting of their own accord, or send me their official objection here or by TG which would also trigger an election.

Nations which wish to do so may now enter their teams in International Friendlies here or by TG, which I will scorinate throughout the day today. To facilitate the action, Free South Califas challenges any and all guests to pre-tournament friendlies; you may also post your own challenges, and are encouraged to do so. It may even help us develop RP angles :)

There is currently no role of President of the Roller Hockey Internationale. I may open voting and/or nominations on this issue soon, but other participants in the tournament are also free to do so of their own accord if I don't get around to it by the time they, er, well, feel like it

Player-manager: Elected from among the players for unlimited 2-game terms by the players, staffers and fans.
Coaches: Elected from among the players, staffers and fans--by the players only.

Lines can vary depending on the player-manager. Feel free to RP this (and the elections) however you like, as I won't be RPing, to avoid judging my own work. As a reminder, I will be receiving a flat 1.00 minimum bonus for this roster, out of the possible 3.98 bonus points available to nations which post a roster and RP. For clarity's sake, each gameday (1 or 2 matches, according to whether Prop 1 or Prop 2 wins) will give the opportunity for 1.00-1.99 points of RP bonus for teams that have a roster posted at cutoff, plus an additional 1.00-1.99 for teams that have posted an RP since last cutoff.

Some players, when they get their turn as manager, prefer to rotate individual teammates in and out without regard to lines. And so, players are listed in roughly descending order of experience/talent/skill/etc per position.

Goalies
Franciszek Coriander, Huntington Beach
Svein Charmchi, South Robertson, Los Angeles City

Left wings
Pasco Karsten, University, San Diego City
Platon Rye, Delano
Rashmi Kylie, Compton

Right wings

Gabrielle Boos, Encinitas
Angelo Prescott, Little Italy, San Diego City

Left defenders

OOC: cut off in about 100 minutes

Postby Free South Califas » Thu Jun 28, 2012 7:23 am

Anarchies and gentlestates of the Executive Committee, (OOC: all 16 nations which are participating)

The International Events Committee hopes you are enjoying your stay in idyllic South Califas. Do remember to give a small donation to the Aquatic Life Watch organization when you visit the beach; we depend on help from tourists to provide the wealth of social services, beach amenities and free lunches available to our people and our guests. Surfing lessons are also available with the ALW, which has partnered with the federal International Sporting Affairs Committee to give a discount on the tourist rate for players, coaches and fans from nations participating in the Roller Hockey Internationale.

Also, please remember that voting on Propositions 1, 2 and 3 are open for another 100 minutes or so. Vote by telegram to Free South Califas.

Proposition 1: The 12 group stage games shall be scorinated over 12 days (1 result per day). This would trigger the design of a new schedule of at least 18 real-life days.
Proposition 2: The 12 group stage games shall be scorinated over 6 days (2 results per day). As scheduled, this would result in a tournament of 13 real-life days.
Proposition 3: New election involving some other option.

Assuming that Prop 1 or 2 wins this first-past-the-post poll, the games will begin promptly (probably) at that time. As of now, Proposition 2 is leading 4-3, and no one has yet voted for Proposition 3 nor proposed another option. Five members of the Executive Committee have yet to vote, so anything can happen.

We apologize for any inconvenience, and bid you adieu to return to your lifestyle experiments. Don't worry, Huntington Beach doesn't kiss and tell.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand cutoff.

Proposition 2 wins, 4-3-0. Don't worry Bordurian, you're one of only four teams to post anything for a bonus anyway.

Scores coming soon.

Bordurian, it is quite inconsiderate to quote a long post in its entirety, like two entire matchdays plus tables. Could you please edit it out? Those scores were canceled out anyway. 13 of 16 players had no need for a two and a half week tournament. I'm sorry it isn't maximally convenient for you, but complaining in the RP thread is not appropriate and it doesn't even seem to be in-character. No RP bonus will be awarded for that one line, in this instance.

Michael VII Roster for SCRHI

Well it turns out that roller hockey is somewhat close to Ice Hockey, so we're sending out our veteran Ice Hockey players out to see what they're like on wheels rather than skates!

Forwards
Line One
LF: Gerald Forbes, Catsore Bay
RF: Thomas Carter, Southland
Line Two
LF: Joachim Denton, Brownville
RF: Hunter Bender, West Frbiba
Line Three
LF: Philip Kelly, Jagoza
RF: Trent Marks, Frbiba

Defenders
Line One
LD: Fred Leaks, Catsore Bay
RD: Terry Johnson, Meshkete *

Line Two
LD: Samuel Richter, Meshkete *
RD: Humberto Potoc, Catsore Bay

Line Three
LD: Derek Alderson, West Frbiba
RD: Ashley Truman, Bensville

Goaltenders
Starting: Ty Fitzgerald, Frbiba
Reserve: Dmitri Vostok, Meshkete *

* Although Meshkete is often RP'ed as a separate nation, for these purposes it is a MHA former all-star team, so the Meshkete players play in this team here.

RP Rules
None whatsoever. As long as you stick to the score, do as much free RP as you wish. These are ex ice hockey players, they'll be uncomfortable on wheels and prone to fighting or checking players to get the puck. So go nuts!

Let this be a lesson to Bordurian and everyone else who's participating or following along: never quote an entire results table!

(Edit: And to me, of course, for failing to calibrate the bonuses correctly. I swear I have it right, now!)

The correct table is always the one posted by me <-------------- For example, in my group, Maineiacs is 2-0. Notice how the teams that posted rosters did well, while the one team that didn't, is 0-2. The other table is all wrong. xkoranate 0.3.3 doesn't tell you what formula is being used for roller hockey, but it is apparently NSFS, because the way I had it calibrated, teams were actually penalized for submitting a roster.

In this case, the correct table is also the one with graphics and links. Remember that Bordurian was only online briefly at the Toronto airport on his way to Italy, so unfortunately the erroneous results will probably stand. Treat it however you like in RP.

Roster links updated in the main intro post upstairs. As a reminder, it is never too late to submit your roster for an RP bonus. You will not be penalized for having a late roster, except that you didn't get a bonus in MD1&2, and won't get one for any that are scorinated before you submit one.

In case I've been unclear, cutoffs are at 9 AM PST every morning except for July 4 where there will be no games played. That's about 26 minutes from now: http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/so ... MD2+cutoff

EDIT @ 9:06 AM: Cutoff.
EDIT @ 9:09 AM: Bonuses updated, scores coming soon.

I didn't expect to be up until 4 AM, and there's no way I'm waking up my GF in 5 hours so i can scorinate--she's very supportive, but she's had a long week at work too! So I am pushing the cutoff back by at least 7 hours to give us ample time to beat insomnia and give you all a little extra RP incentive.

I figured, if you all want to take advantage of the later cutoff, I can extend it through the weekend and maybe even the rest of the tournament's weekend games, too. So far, there haven't been any RPs posted, though there are some rosters, RP angles and now four matchdays of scores. Don't get me wrong, there is no pressure to RP in this tournament

But if some players do happen to use this opportunity and post RPs in the extra 7 hours, I can use the late cutoff on Sunday too. I guess it's only an incentive if you were worried about Sunday's cutoff, but anyway, see you in just under 12 hours: http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/pa ... fg2=ff605a

The new cutoff for Saturday is 4 PM Pacific.

Cutoff, half an hour late. Sorry about that, I got sweaty and had to shower. Scores coming soon.

An IC note on today's festivities: To mark the halfway point of the group stage, games will be played in the morning and afternoon, accommodating an all-night keg party sponsored by local specialty brewers, the Celiac's Disease Foundation, Autism National Committee and Aspies For Freedom (the latter three groups sponsoring gluten-free beers after a joint countywide fundraising drive). The upshot: players will be sweating profusely in the hot summer afternoons, which may breach 90 deg F (32 deg C) with some humidity, not as bad as New York, Miami or D.C. but brutal to people from dry climates. To give players, coaches, staffers and fans time to get over their hangovers, games will begin in the afternoon tomorrow, resulting in another hot and sweaty set of games before the evening set.

Agh, I don't know what the forum or my computer did to my post. I posted 5 & 6 here...or did I just preview it?

Cutoff for 7 & 8 too. Sorry all. I could've sworn that I had posted 5 & 6. I have no idea what happened! Four days of scores coming.
