History
(0-1500 AD) Prehistory
King's Reach was first inhabited around 1000 AD, by nomadic natives who arrived from the San Marini Isles. It is believed that these nomadic people were descended from mainland Nysan natives, having probably settled in the San Marini Isles around 100 BC.
They flourished in San Marini and the King's Reach peninsula, but with the arrival of large predators such as the Marsupial Lion from the other side of Marburran, brought by the recession of the barren desert that had once divided the island in half, they were decimated. It is theorized that these predators swam the short distance to the San Marini Isles, also decimating the population of nomads there. By the time the settlers arrived to found Kingborough, barely any trace remained of the nomads former existence.
(1500 AD-1800 AD) Foundation
Kingborough was founded in 1500 AD, by a group of colonists looking for a new life. The first [[Falsea]]nians to arrive on Marburran were the passengers of the Venture. Some six hundred people, of diverse backgrounds, were on-board and disembarked at Venture Bay, now the location of the city of Saint Martin. The colony prospered for its first fifty years, however contact with the homeland was lost in 1562 and the colony was left to survive on its own.
The second boat load of colonists arrived from Tyarchal in 1689 AD, to find a thriving community of ten thousand already established. The Victory's crew and passengers disembarked, and were welcomed heartily by the people of Kingborough. Under the governance of Tyarchal they thrived for just under ten years, but the trade lines to Kingborough were intercepted by sea born raiders and in 1703 the colony lost contact again.
However the colonist continued to thrive and fearing attack from the forces who had decimated their home land built extensive fortifications around Saint Martin, which stand to this day. Taking the advise of the most recent settlers the Most Serene Principality of Kingborough was founded on the 1st of July, 1731 AD. The first monarch, Prince Seamus I - great great great grand son of the original captain of the Venture - was enthroned the following day.
The colonies gained a reputation as bad luck in the following years, two sets of colonies having been lost, and no further colonial ventures were attempted by either Tyarchal or Falsea.
(1800 AD-1810 AD) The civil war of 1800
Kingborough, having grown large enough to consider settling its surrounding lands, had colonized the tiny San Marini Isles in 1751 AD. However, due to slow communications and the fact that many of the more troublesome members of society decided to join the settlement, a growing gap began to grow between the Saint Martin colony and the San Marini Isles colony.
By 1796, it had gotten so bad that some in the San Marini Isles began began clamoring for their independence from the mainland. The second prince of Kingborough, Seamus II, proposed giving some limited autonomy to San Marini, and even established a locally elected city council for the main settlement. However, it wasn't enough for the San Marinian people, and in 1800 civil war broke out.
Sparked by the sudden and suspicious death of Lord Henry Campbell, the vocal secessionist mayor of San Marini, over thousand men took arms and stormed Fort Princess Abigail in San Marini. They were successful in breaking down the meager fortifications, designed only to withstand wild animals, and then went on to slaughter the garrison of fifty.
Kingborough was ill prepared, having never fought anything worse than a Marsupial Lion or Genyornis, and the two hundred men they could muster were slaughtered on the beach at San Marin Town when they attempted to retake the islands.
Unable to take the islands by force for the next five years, when Kingborough did try again in 1805, it discovered that the San Marinian people had been hard at work training their military and building fortifications. The townsfolk simply retreated into the now well reinforced Fort Princess Abigail, and waited while the Kingboroughian men fruitlessly attacked the walls. Eventually, the Kingboroughian military was chased away by the hail of arrows that the San Marinians cast down on them, and they retreated back to the mainland.
It took until 1810 for a formal treaty to be signed, recognizing the independence of San Marin, but no more battles took place after the failure at Fort Princess Abigail.
Recent history
Kingborough first recontacted the world on the 2nd of January 1901, when a Tyronian naval vessel stumbled upon the island of Marburran. Diplomatic relations were swiftly established, and the Tyronians sailed away peacefully to report to the President on the unknown island they had discovered - with a nation of westerners already inhabiting it. Tyrone[fn1] returned in 1902, and established the first embassy between Kingborough and a foreign nation.
Through trade with Tyrone, Kingborough managed to catch up to the rest of the world technologically, and it enjoyed a peaceful 'golden age'. However, in 1952 Tyrone fell suddenly and the principality was forgotten about again; it wouldn't be until 1982 that Kingborough would be remembered again when someone noticed from satellite imaging that their was a city - Saint Martin - located on Marburran. Kingborough truly entered the world stage at this time, finally opening diplomatic relations with other nations.
The burning of the Royal Palace in 2000 was the first act of terrorism in Kingborough's history, and was committed by Jack Burnes. He claimed that he was "fighting the tyranny of the Princes", and he was to be the first of what is now a widespread anti-monarchist movement; a connected series of terrorist attacks took place during 2012, targeting the Prince. The perpetrator was arrested and tried by the International Criminal Court, but was released free on an administrative error. In 2012 Kingborough entered the Nysa supranational organization.
Following the Kingboroughian Civil War in October 2012 which was sparked by Prince Iosac II going insane and dismissing Parliament following their objection to actions taken by the Prince against the Duchess Anastasia. The government of the Principality was later overthrown by his daughter Princess Edana who assumed the title of Archduchess Edana I upon her crowning.
