World History Library - Largest Library in the World

Postby ViZion » Thu Jun 11, 2009 11:50 pm

Located in Vitalità, ViZion - previously located in ViZion City before the Decade War forced it to be moved - the World History Library is the largest library in the world (modern-tech). In the midst of a massive expanding, the World History Library, when completed, will be 5.5 million square feet, making this library is truly a wonder to be taken in, and one that must be preserved when considering the historical impact it has with what it holds.

We are looking for donations of the following:
• Periodicals (Please give a little information + title)
• Books (Please give a little information + title)
• Factbooks (Please give full nations name + link)
• Artifacts (Please give a little information + name)
• Information on Historic Events (Please see the link listed below)
• Information on Organizations and Alliances (Please give information, name, and link)

This will help your nation, and the world, as people can read about your country, its history, culture, beliefs, stories, and so forth, as well as see what's important to your country! Please donate - rather it be a copy or the original - what you wish, and your nation will have its own exhibit!

We are willing to accept multi-day "field trips" from schools and groups outside ViZion - please make appointments today. You may also come as a visitor!

Original historical articles are not to be checked out, they are allowed to be viewed only within the building. Everything else may be checked out for 21 days at a time.

We are accepting donations documents, books, artifacts, and so forth from all nations about their history, culture, people, and the nation itself. If you have anything to send, please do send it to us. (OOC: You will need to discribe what it is and tell a bit about it...)

Archive Your Events Here! (Coming Soon!)

Director of the World History Library, Owen Johnson

(OOC: Please feel free to RP responses, inquires, donations, checking something out, and even as a character visiting or a field trip...)

Anollasia
-Anoll and Jefferson by Timothy Vaughan: Published in 1673, an account of the expeditions of the explorer James Anoll and his co-captain Arthur Jefferson, from the perspective of Vaughan, who was part of Anoll's crew.
-Alp and Sara by Edgar Julius: Published in 1711, a poetry epic about the love between a Turkish Anollasian named Alp and an English Anollasian named Sara. It contains mythological and fantastical themes, with Sara being banished and locked up in a castle by an evil spirit named Malus, and Alp going on a journey to rescue her with the help of a wizard, fairies, and a flying horse, among other magical beings. It was written according to the social climate of the time, with interethnic relationships being taboo and xenophobia being rampant.
-In Alternative Vision by Samuel Walters: Published in 1906, a fictional story based on the real events of the military dictatorship of 1886-1896. The novel is about Frederick Demir who is a high-ranking officer in the Anollasian Army. He is completely oblivious to the massacres and oppression the general public is going through because of his sheltered life, due to being a well-paid high-ranking officer. One day, he has to take a detour due to roadwork and passes through a less fortunate neighbourhood, where he witnesses some of the cruelties inflicted on the people by the army. He informs other soldiers of this, but they don't believe him and he is eventually demoted to a low-ranking soldier due to "acting unprofessional". Frederick is ordered to kill innocent civilians and has to choose between his job or his morals, with the risk of being tortured and even executed.

-"The Illustrated Encyclopedia about Winter" - A. Thomas
-"Winter and our Economy" - Sarah W. - books on how to make winter become a profitable moment
-"Make Peace, Not War" - D. Judah - a book made by the nation leader about peace and negotiation.

Zatarack Exhibit
-And Yet Men They Be!: The story set in the near future that speaks out against the atrocities of war against soldiers and civilians.
-Strike of Steel: The story of stratocrat rebels against the USSR occupation force, which helps Zatarack achieve early independence.

Zwangzug Exhibit
-The Ashanemas (original language and English translation): a collection of various folktales and legends, dating back to the earliest days of the nation (about 1,500 years ago, though some are more recent). Some of these are retold, with various modifications, orally among the tribal peoples dwelling in the country's rainforest. Others hark back to a time when the ancestors of the early settlers lived under a harsh monarch. And yet others are still popular modern fairy tales (a variant of the infamous "Freddy the Fool" was first chronicled in one). The originals are written in a unique variant of Hindi-Urdu
-ÆggðshúÞǫdök (original language and English translation): a comic poem detailing the misadventures of a pirate ship, about 1,000 years old. Though it might appear to be the compilation of various authors, the unity of humor presented (combined with the fact that sailing is not a traditional theme in the mountainous country) seems to imply that is the work of a single writer. The original is written in some Norse dialect no longer spoken in the nation.
-Giraffes, Elephants, Baboons: an Equatorial Grasslands Bestiary: written by professor Egbert B. Gebstadter of the Artificial Intelligence University, the book considers animals such as the titular triad (as well, inexplicably, as zebras), arguing that the capacities they possess implies that then-current definitions (the book is about 30 years old) of "intelligence" are lacking.
-Copper, Silver, Gold: an Indestructible Metal Alloy (Algebraic English, in fact, the first book written in that dialect): Gebstadter's outstanding work, arguing the case for artificial intelligence.
-The Seven-Color Theorem: Mary Backs' trilogy, which her computer game StateNations was designed to promote. (A plot summary may be found in the wiki article.)
-The Diaries by Zachary Sheridon

Zwangzug would like to submit copies of Zachary Sheridon's diaries. Sheridon was one of the country's first members of Parliament, and before that, helped establish the modern state. A copy of some of his diaries is currently being published, but the library can have copies of the unabridged versions.

ViZ, increase the size of your library drastically increase it- the LOC dwarfs it. If your going to biggest in the world you have to at least be bigger then real life libraries.
For perspective, the Madison building of the LOC is 2.1m square feet.

I will post stuff to add to your collection later.

Our nation has always considered intelligence and education to be among the most important values of all. We commend you for establishing this library, it is truly a monumental achievement. With that said, we are willing to donate 2 billion credits of our currency, along with a wide collection of books about:

-Havaerre's national history, including The History of Havaerre vol. 1-3, and Forged in Peace by historian Wan Ti Kintin. Both documentations of Havaerre's history.

-Poetry, including collections of poetry Radiating Rainforest by Hoff Newark, A Letter to Damien by Julie Jappens, and the collection of poetry for children "Jump, Wilfred!" by the renowned poet Jib Kertz.

-Politics, including Father Knows Best by Frank Kerry, The Parliament's Fortress by Dean Tomson and Ten Khabenedaf, and Delusions by Jess Danesbury. All are about the political tendencies of Havaerre.

-Fiction, including Chasing Charlie by Rena Redford about a girl who is searching for her biological father, Blue by Jobi Shell about what would have happened if Danny "Blue" Curtis, a beloved civil rights leader, had not been assassinated while overseas, and Children of the Stars by Bright Mind Award winner Jenna Helms about the colonization of outer space in an attempt to escape a looming nuclear war.

-Science, including a large range of textbooks regarding physics, biology, planetary science, chemistry, nuclear power, and advanced aeronautics. All of which were composed by the highly educated members of the Havaerrian Intellectual Association (HIA).

We hope that our nation will be able to contribute further in the future, and schedule visits to the library for our numerous scholars and young minds.
