Introduction
Undergraduate Programs

Image

At Imperial College Ismalyr, it is our belief that the undergraduate student is the backbone of any well educated society, taking in knowledge and ideas to feed their interests at the height of their development as human beings and carrying those on throughout their adult lives to affect society in a myriad of fashions. Covering the social sciences in their entirety, the undergraduate studies program at the College is specifically tailored to provide students with groundings in a variety of specialist areas, ranging from the humanities to statistic-centric studies in an effort to promote a wide-ranging approach to social issues.

Undergraduates in Anemos Major are known as 'Intellectist Fonderise', or Foundation Scholars, due to the perceived nature of undergraduate education in Anemos Major as being a 'foundation' stage course for development into either vocational or academic pursuits. Accordingly the courses offered at Ismalyr are generally short, at three years, with additional components for certain courses like Law. Most undergraduate courses are separated into Components - generally split into Interdisciplinary and Specialist Components, students are provided with differing combinations of the two depending on the course taken and years of study, with a number of programmes offered under these two subsets over the three years of an undergraduate student's education. At Ismalyr, students work through a comprehensive program of interacting optional lectures and compulsory classes covering six programmes per annum over three terms (Winter, Spring, Summer), culminating in an annual examination, which can be replaced by a dissertation in the Second Year if so desired in every subject. The student-to-teacher ratio at Ismalyr is naturally low, and in addition to classes a system exists whereby students are are assigned supervisory tutors in groups of five from amongst the junior faculty in their first years, and then go on to apply for senior tutors via letters in a selection process for the next two years of their undergraduate education.

In the Anemonian tertiary educational system, the social sciences, primarily due to the influence of Ismalyr during the educational restructuring of the 1970s, are considered to be a separate category of education to the Arts and Sciences. In terms of subjects such as history, state regulators consider the approach to the subject to be the differentiating factor; therefore, while the State History course at the University of Sailiei is considered to be an Arts course due to its focus on figures of import and the cultural side of historical affairs, the course with the same name at Imperial College Ismalyr is considered to be a Social Sciences degree due to its different, social-centric approach to the the subject matter. Another peculiarity of the higher level tertiary educational system in Anemos Major is the nature of the courses offered - rather than offering a wide selection of courses in their own right, a narrower range of potential undergraduate degrees are offered with a wide variety of options within to allow students to develop in different directions from within. The high quality of the education offered to students at Ismalyr allows for their individual development and closer relationships between teachers and learners, allowing this highly individual-centric form of undergraduate education to flourish in its own right.

Accordingly the standard undergraduate qualification offered is the FSo, or Fonderist Socialise. Taken over three years, the FSo is awarded upon the completion and assessment of final examinations, or the Registeryr Dreise. Based upon the marks gained in the three end-of-year examinations or dissertations taken as part of every FSo program and the overall evaluation of candidate performance throughout, the FSo can be awarded at a number of levels; from bottom to top, Dreise (Third), Dinise (Second), Inise (First) and Inise Emeriei (First of Merit).

The heart of the Imperial College's undergraduate education is the mandatory college-wide first year Polymathic Approach course, providing undergraduate students with an appreciation of the wide variety of subject areas explored in the pursuit of the study of society, the interaction of subject areas and the manner in which different schools of thought have developed over time across the social sciences. Exploring the issues associated with the differing manners in which social sciences choose to view their studies and the methods utilised to reach conclusions, students are introduced to concepts such as the distinction between the social studies as an empirical field of study against the postpositivist theory of conjecture and are thus led to expand their understanding of their subjects in terms of approach as well as content. The Imperial College is an institution dedicated to the understanding of society and societal issues, and Polymathic Approach constitutes the first and most important step in this pursuit in its exploration of the fundamental issues inherent to the social sciences.

However, in the same way the heart is but a single functioning part in the complex mechanisms of a human being, Polymathic Approach merely constitutes the basis for the pursuit of the social sciences at the College. Dedicated to providing its students with the widest possible variety of specialist pursuits while remaining within the focus of establishing an undergraduate foundation in the social sciences as a whole, Imperial College Ismalyr draws from the extensive academia and resources at its disposal to provide an extensive selection of interacting undergraduate courses for prospective students. At ICI, subject areas are divided into broad Institutes of study, which in turn are divided into narrower Departments amongst which undergraduate courses are offered cooperatively. In order to foster a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to studying their respective subject areas, courses are generally structured with an emphasis on incorporating additional modules from external Departments and Institutes alongside the traditional three year undergraduate course to provide a wider perspective on the material covered during undergraduate education.

Shown below is a loose outline of the courses offered at the undergraduate level by the Imperial College.

Introduction
Institutes of Study

Image

To become a graduate student is a significant decision in the lives of any student. It is a commitment made to one's field of study, years spent beyond the normal requisite in search of information and understanding. Understanding this, the graduate programs offered at Imperial College Ismalyr are designed to provide for individual students' interests, placing a greater focus on aided initiative rather than formulaic teaching. Given the opportunity to look into the social sciences with a far broader remit than that offered to students at the undergraduate level, Ismalyr graduates are expected to study alongside rather than under their mentors and teachers.

Known as 'Intellectist', or Scholars in their own right, graduate education in Anemos Major is almost exclusively research based, with alternate courses such as business schooling generally considered to constitute qualifications outside the context of tertiary education. Encouraging intellectual rigour and independent initiative, the research based courses offered at the graduate level push students not only to achieve but to innovate in their subject areas of interest and provide a unique opportunity to turn a grounding in a subject area into the basis for a broader and more imaginative exploration of the subject. Choosing areas of specialisation, students are pushed to understand their subjects through unique and individual perspectives and to perform research independently of strictly set deadlines and tasks, as would be the case during their undergraduate tenure.

Of course, what independent research constitutes will differ for some subjects; for a subject such as law, for example, specialisation will be encouraged but ground theory will be taught in lieu of what other subject areas would delegate to independent work. However, the broad scheme is largely similar for most subjects. Choosing an area of interest, graduate students will be assigned to the Institute of study most suited to their needs. Assigned institutes do not restrict students' access to other institutes; with the ability to call upon the faculty and resources from the breadth of the entire college, graduate students at Ismalyr are encouraged to broaden their academic horizons when and where possible. From that point, the Imperial College assigns a broad subject area to the individual student's field of study and qualifies it as a valid graduate pursuit if the student's application to study a given subject is accepted. These qualifications will fall under either the SSo (Specaltyr Socialise) or SLeg (Specaltyr Legatise) at what loosely corresponds to the Masters level abroad, and subsequently the DSo (Doctoratyr Socialise) or DLeg (Doctoratyr Legatise) if the student chooses to continue study to the Doctorate level. Courses take between 3-4 years at both Masters and Doctorate level. Masters students are generally expected to submit three written dissertations on their subject during the course of their studies (legal examinations are conducted outside the tertiary educational system), while Doctors spend the course of their three to four years working on a single research assignment, submitted and reviewed at the end of their period in education.

Graduate courses at ICI are unique, offering students the ability to choose their own future on the basis of their own interests through the belief that the dedication and aptitude required to pursue studies beyond the undergraduate level are evidence of an interest in specific subject areas and the ability to work independently of external motivation and direction. A significant part of this much looser system of education is the Institutional system of faculty division observed at Imperial College Ismalyr; from their assignment to research under a particular Institution to their exploration of the limitless potential for challenging and rewarding study offered between them, an understanding of the respective Institutions will doubtlessly play a significant part in the life of any graduate student at Ismalyr.

Institutes of Study

Image

An exceptionally large institution dedicated to what is traditionally an overlooked field of study and research, and home to academic pluralism in breadth, variety and perspective, the Ismal Institute is a significant and noted home to the sociological studies whose influence on popular thought and political action has been significant since its establishment as one of the first dedicated sociological institutions in the nation.

Founded around 1400 alongside the Imperial College itself, the Ismal Institute is the oldest of ICI's academic institutes and the only one founded directly by the Earl Ismalyr himself. Originally conceived as the Ismal College for the Study of State and Society, the Institute was formally founded in 1804 with the division of the College into smaller constituent blocks to facilitate the specialist study of the social sciences, which had diversified considerably in the four hundred years since the College's foundation.

Formally known as the Ismal Institute of Sociological Studies and Research, the Institute is the oldest and most prestigious school of sociological study in the Second Empire with a profound bearing on the subject's theory and application within the nation since its inception. With constituent departments such as the Department of Social Anthropology operating alongside more specialist units such as the Department of Urban Sociology, the Ismal Institute is one of the world's foremost centres in its subject area. With a faculty made up of teaching staff and long tenure researchers working alongside visiting professors and scholars from both within and without Anemos Major, the Ismal Institute is dedicated to the pursuit of the sociological field of study in a comprehensive fashion across its countless potential areas of research and application, acting as a hub for both teaching and research.

With a comprehensive repository of both online and printed resources within the overall umbrella of the State Library of the Social Sciences, the Imperial College's over and underground library complex located centrally within Anemos Rei, and connections to similar schools of study across the country (such as the University of Sailiei's Department of Sociology), the Ismal Institute is unrivalled in its access to resources in its particular field of study. Coupled with its faculty of highly qualified and renowned staff, the Ismal Institute's significance in a continually evolving area of study cannot be overstated.

Among its notable achievements, the Ismal Institute is known for its place as the origin of the 'Popular Elite' theory that led to the creation of the modern Anemonian bureaucratic state, or its position as one of the foremost sources of discourse on the subject of refugee culture and society within the Second Empire.

Aside from its formal role as an Institute of the Imperial College, the Ismal Institute is also known for its role as the publishing entity behind the Anemonian Journal of Sociological Study and the cooperative think tank it operates under its wing, Ismal 21, which has developed in recent years as one of the foremost entities behind the social policy of the current Anemonian government.

The current faculty head of the Ismal Institute is Doctor Amdel Colantyr, whose areas of speciality include Class Identity in Anemos Major, Urban Ethnography, and Social-Political Comparative Analysis of Rural-Urban Divides.

The Mordlei Institute is among the most renowned places of historical study in the Second Empire of Anemos, with a unique focus on international as well as domestic history and a specific focus on the retrospective analysis of past society for present purposes. Known for its flexibility and its historical willingness to consider new approaches and ideas (being one of the first historical institutions in Anemos to introduce new social history during the mid-19th century) the traditional reputation held by the Institute is one for modern innovativeness and rigorous intellectual analysis of a sometimes static academic field of study.

Originally formed in 1755 as the Anemos Rei Schools of Historical Record and Study, the Institute was initially founded as an independent, Crown accredited place of historical analysis. Incorporated into the Imperial College in 1804, the Mordlei Institute is one of three Institutes located on the Ardentyr Square in central Anemos Rei, occupying the Moldonei Palace complex.

Now known as the Mordlei School and Institute of Historical Record and Studies, the Institute is among the most significant historical institutions in the Second Empire and well known for its frequent and vital contributions to the field of social history in particular, from both domestic and international perspectives. The Departments of the Mordlei Institute are varied, ranging from specific domestic areas such as Central Anemonian History, Early Medieval to broader fields of study such as International History, Modern. Within each department, professors and scholars will doubtlessly have far more specific areas of specialisation to suit their needs and interests, and their research is conducted alongside a comprehensive Materials Department acting as a liaison between the Institute and its sources. The internationalist slant of the Mordlei Institute means that its faculty is much more reliant on foreign professors on short tenures, teaching more specific areas of the history of foreign countries when and where necessary, often in parallel with research on Anemonian subjects.

Though the Mordlei Institute does, alongside the other Institutes of the Imperial College, possess a section for historical material and books within the State Library of the Social Sciences, and a sizeable online repository under the authority of the same organisation, its position on the Ardentyr Square was specifically intended to facilitate access to its neighbouring subsidiary materials department, the State Imperial Historical Library. A legal depository in technical terms, the Library is a vast over and underground complex with the authority to requisition all published material within Anemos Major alongside a large government-supplied fund for the procurement of non-published historical material of note, which can be used as directed by the Mordlei Institute and its faculty or employed more broadly by the Library's custodians. The State Imperial Historical Library's intended role is to act as a repository of record for the Anemonian state, with a comprehensive offline and online network of resources scanned into digital form alongside its hard print resources, and the Mordlei Institute's direct access to and authority over the Library is a major factor in its influence as an institution of historical study.

As stated above, the Mordlei Institute possesses a unique reputation for modernity and flexibility in its position as a school of historical study, and its influence upon Anemonian thinking and development in the area has been significant. Its most notable recent move has been its pioneering of New Social History from the mid 19th century onwards, more popularly known as the 'Mordlei School' of thinking.

Of course, the major secondary role of the Mordlei Institute is to act as the administrative body above the State Imperial Historical Library. Aside from this, it is the senior university-level participant in the Anemonian Historical Conference, and an independent publisher for research material and historical publications of some renown.

The current faculty heard of the Mordlei Institute is Dr Oreia Arkantyr, whose academic specialisation is into 20th Century Anemonian political history.

The Erenthi Institute is, by right of origin and action, arguably the single most significant school of the political sciences and international relations at the tertiary education level in Anemos Major, and is known for its world leading productivity in research terms, its pioneering role in the advancement of political theory and the degree to which the academic activity within the Institute shapes political discourse nationwide. The home of much of the Anemonian state's driving political theory and foreign policy, the role played by the Erenthi Institute as a hub for research, learning and policy development create a unique amalgamation of roles that serve to enhance its already significant reputation.

Originally the independent Imperial College of Government and Politics, as founded in 1780 on the back of the then political enlightenment sweeping worldwide, the Imperial College was founded by direct Imperial mandate to conduct research and evaluation into the explosion of political thought observed in contemporary society. Subsumed into Imperial College Ismalyr in 1970 during the restructuring of the state tertiary educational system, the inclusion of the Second Empire's most connected and arguably important school of political science into the Imperial College was a development of some importance. Renamed accordingly to reflect its Imperial patronage, the Institute is one of three under the Imperial College located on the Ardentyr Square in central Anemos Rei, within what was previously known as the Renatyr Palace complex.

Formally known as the Erenthi Institute of the Political Sciences and Studies of State and Government, its role as the primary source of political theorisation and concepts for the Anemonian government has remained unchanged since its change of structure in 1970, with a notable reputation for the quality of its education in various politically-related fields, its role as a cradle for the Second Empire's political elite and the increasing popular awareness of the implications of its sometimes radical theory exploration added to its original role and purpose. A large Institution with very close ties to the decision-makers of Anemos Major, the Erenthi Institute's wide range of studies (due to its international as well as domestic remit) has led to a variety of Departments covering fields as diverse as local Anemonian politics to International Relations, and a similarly diverse faculty reflected a wide selection of ideological beliefs and age ranges to encourage thinking and debate at the faculty level as well as amongst students.

The Erenthi Institute's primary resource depository is the State Library of the Social Sciences, though those affiliated with the Institute are also granted access to the State Legislature Hall of Records and the Crown Political Repository, an almost unique privilege that further marks out the Institute's ties. As well as its printed material, the Institute also possesses a significant online database of both e-readable publications and online information ranging from the news to social networking site excerpts.

Through its role as a think tank of sorts to the Anemonian political class, the Erenthi Institute's bearing on wider Anemonian society has been beyond significant. The foreign policy concept of 'statherotism' adhered to by the Anemonian state since the 1970s originated in the halls of the Institute, and proposals concerning the further development of local government in the 1990s came similarly from concerns raised by the faculty of the Institute. Its most pronounced influence is arguably exerted through its alumni; the late monarch, Ilfir Erenthi III, known for his sweeping redevelopment of Anemonian society, undertook his graduate level education at the Erenthi Institute.

Publishing a number of academic journals outside its remit as part of the Imperial College, the Erenthi Institute also hosts a number of high profile debating events. Active in national-level attempts to engage the wider populace in politics, the most active non-academic role of the Erenthi Institute is its position as a de-facto think tank for the Crown and State.

The current faculty head of the Erenthi Institute is Dr Sores Indimityr, whose academic areas of specialisation are in Elite Theory and Political Bureaucracy.

The Andal Institute, specialising in the study of economics and economic policy, is a highly influential institute with a significant amount of bearing on the development of governmental policy and global economic theory. Promoting a varied, circumstantial approach to the underlying issues surrounding economics, the Andal Institute provides a uniquely practical brand of policy-making economic theory alongside its traditional assortment of ideologically slanted economic theory development.

Founded in 1822 by the then Treasurer to the Crown, Earl Moredan Andal, the creation of the Andal Institute was a move encouraged partly by the desire for a bureaucratic class that would keep monarchical spending in check and balanced but also due to the increasing awareness of the need for informed central decision-making concerning the spending of levied funds at the state level. With its initial objective to accumulate economic policy awareness while training the Anemonian economic elite for the 19th century, the Andal Institute gradually developed to become a source of government independent policy and theory development and fierce ideological conflict concerning the nature of economic activity alongside its traditional policy transmission role from one generation to the next. More recently, the Andal Institute has been relocated as of 1995 to the Molandyr District of central Anemos Rei, where a complex of structures were erected over a period of twenty years to allow for the subterranean expansion of the Institute's internal resource depository.

Correctly known as the Andal Institute of Social and Local Economic Studies and Policy, the Institute is one of Anemos Major's premier tertiary education institutions in the field of economics and a major influence in the development of state level economic policy due to a combination of its traditional reputation and the tendency of its faculty to be able to think independently of established economic theory, providing the government with a highly original and technically proficient source of policy advice. Departmentally, the Institute is divided into broad areas of study (such as State Policy or Macroeconomic Theory), with broader subdivisions masking high levels of specialisation among individual members of the faculty. The faculty itself is varied in its composition, drawing from the four corners of the Anemonian state and abroad to fill its ranks with a variety of independent-thinking members and the potential for intra-faculty debate.

Like most other constitutent Institutes of Imperial College Ismalyr, the primary resource repository for the Andal Institute is the State Library of the Social Sciences in central Anemos Rei, where the Institute maintains an online and printed presence of some significance. Additionally, following its movement to its new location, the Andal Institute has maintained an extensive subterranean printed material repository, known as the Andal Economics Library (with access restricted by and large to those affiliated with the Andal Institute). However, the most significant resource repository held independently by the Andal Institute is the digital Andal Network Library maintained on servers held in the Molandyr complex. Together with its data sharing partnerships with a number of universities across Anemos Major and its cooperative activity with the government, the Andal Institute maintains unparalleled access to economic resources and data for the benefit of its students and faculty.

The influence of the Andal Institute in wider Anemonian society is clearly visible due to its role as an economic policy development entity close to the Anemonian government. At a macroeconomic level, the Institute has been a major player on both sides in the fiscal expansionary/economic liberal debate, with notable members of its faculty acting as advisors to the government at different periods of time in different capacities. At a more microeconomic level, the economic theory development and forecasts of the Institute have led to major inititatives in areas such as efficiency increases through capital acquisition and improvements in labour relations.

The Institute is also visible in non-policy, non-academic areas; alongside its formalised responsibilities, it also hosts a number of international debates in various economic fields, open days to the public for the wider understanding of economic issues and the publication of a number of specialist journals in various economic areas at an academic level.

The current faculty head of the Andal Institute is Doctor Tremalyr Ontoris, whose areas of academic specialisation are international trade theory and resource economics.

The Sorelas Institute, located in central Anemos Rei and one of the oldest dedicated legal institutions within the Empire, is a world-renowned source of legal theory and research. Providing the legal system of Anemos Major with its foundation and enforcers, and acting in close conjunction with the capital's Halls of Practice (the legal associations of the Second Empire), the Sorelas Institute is a uniquely influential body in its field of study, tied closely to the nation's legal system since time immemorial and continuing to exert considerable influence since.

Established in 1705 as the Crown School of Law under the authority of the Count Sorelas, renowned academic and Lord Loyal to the then-monarch, the Sorelas Institute was subsequently founded through the amalgamation of the School into the Imperial College with the creation of the College's constituent Institutes in 1804, relocating to its current location alongside two other Institutes on Ardentyr Square, within the walls of the Andelion Palace.

Known in full as the Sorelas Institute for the Study and Accreditation of Legal Affairs, the Institute is among the most renowned centres of legal study within the Second Empire and is the favoured destination for a significant body of widely renowned legal scholars and researchers due to its possession, uniquely, of a nigh-unrivalled reputation as an academic centre of study and its access to the formidable resources of the Imperial College itself. Slightly unorthodox in its composition, the individual Departments of the Sorelas Institute comprise specialist areas such as Criminal Law or Property Law, conducting research and publication in their respective areas of study, but a centralised Board exists for the amalgamation of the individual Departments' work to facilitate the provision of a single system of foundation teaching and qualification, thus maximising the efficiency of the Sorelas Institute as a teaching body without compromising its position as a renowned centre of research and publication.

The centralised location of the Sorelas Institute make it a uniquely well-placed institute for the study and teaching of legal affairs. Aside from the resources stored as part of the wider State Library of the Social Sciences complex in Anemos Rei, those associated with the Institute are also provided with access to the Ministry of Justice's Legal Repositories, the individual libraries of the Halls of Practice and the Sorelas Institute's own Library of Legal Material. Additionally, partnership programs with additional legal departments across the nation mean that online access is available for students to the legal materials of many other universities nationwide.

The Sorelas Institute's influence on the Anemonian legal system is difficult to quantify; given the fact that the modern legal system was effective drawn up in the 1950s following the Anemonian Civil War under Doctor Almeis Morantyr, a long tenure professor at the Sorelas Institute, some would argue that the Institute was responsible for the Anemonian legal system itself. This matter aside, the Institute is also known for its position as a powerful defender of the rule of law, its influence on the finer elements of legal practice over the past few years within the Second Empire, and the global implications of its uniquely broad focus on wider legal research and theory through its published material and, more recently, online material.

As well as its academic duties, the Sorelas Institute is also known as the senior institute of legal teaching in the Imperial Legal Accreditation Society, and its publication of journals such as the popular Legal Thinking magazine or the more formal Legal Essays and Research Journal of Anemos Major.

The current faculty head of the Sorelas Institute is Dr Marela Acradin, whose legal specialisation is in Public Law and Regulation.

The Ilias Institute, with a unique focus on the social implications of philosophy and philosophy particular to social issues, is a centrally located institution known since its foundation for challenging and thought-provoking discourse in a wide range of philosophical areas concerning society. With a relatively quiet profile in public terms, the Institute has, in fact, produced vast quantities of world-changing theories and concepts from within the walls of its verdant complex in central Anemos Rei.

Established in 1804 as part of the expansion of Imperial College Ismalyr and the modification of its departmental structure to the semi-collegiate Institutional system employed today, the Ilias Institute is in fact named not after its founder but after the major Anemonian philosopher of the time, Mardlen Ilias. Ilias was known in his time for the conceptualisation of philosophy at the societal level, exploring areas such as ethics and utilitarianism, and his name was meant as a testament to the intended role of the Institute. Housed across the five buildings of the former Olmonei Houses slightly further away from the other Institutes of the Imperial College, the Institute is located a few minutes away from the concentration of Institutes on the Ardentyr Square in central Anemos Rei.

The Ilias Institute for the Study and Record of Social Philosophy, as it is formally known, is Anemos Major's premier social philosophy department, with a significant faculty and student body dedicated to the exploration of a subject area of significant importance and very little perceived significance. With an unorthodox approach to the subject, encouraging debate of philosophical issues in relation to society and social problems, the Ilias Institute's composition is similarly unorthodox to facilitate the study of a comparatively immaterial subject area. The Departmental structure is not employed within the Institute. Rather, students and scholars are encouraged to apply for tutelage under individual professors and researchers within the Institute's faculty at both Masters and Doctorate equivalent levels as suits their needs, with the intent to create a direct student-teacher relationship more conducive to philosophical debate than a formalised and departmentalised system of administration. A central Curriculum Board is maintained by the Institute to oversee undergraduate teaching and courses. Alongside its highly individualised internal administrative structure, the Ilias Institute maintains a faculty with a selection process specifically designed to encourage intra-institutional debate and a high quality of modern thinking to students at every level; as well as its aggressive recruitment of faculty from domestic universities and institutions, the Ilias Institute is one of the most significant organisers of international teacher exchange projects, leading to a high number of short tenure international staff within its faculty in comparison to the other Institutes.

The Ilias Institute, due to its position in central Anemos Rei and its particular focus, has placed the vast majority of its printed and online resources under the administrative authority of the State Library of the Social Sciences. However, it also maintains its own store of material in parallel as part of a smaller library authority, the Ilias Library, Olmonei House.

As suggested above, the Ilias Institute's field of specialisation is somewhat immaterial in comparison to those of its fellow Institutes, and it is therefore difficult to fully measure the effects of its work on wider society. Where they have been observed, they have been varied in effect; where one of its most significant achievements was their philosophical opposition to utilitarianism driving the Government to review its electoral and political structuring, the Ilias Institute has also been active in promoting Ethics and Morality based programs in wider society and the promotion of individual philanthropy.

Alongside its academic responsibilities, the Ilias Institute can also be seen in other areas of Anemonian society. It is a major member of the philosophical think tank, PhSoc, and is the body behind the publication of internationally known material like the Anemonian Journal of Social Thinking (in conjunction with the Imperial Philosophical Fellows and Association). Additionally, in one of its more high-profile roles, the Ilias Institute maintains a number of social philosophy libraries, mostly open to the public, across Anemos Major under the auspices of the Ilias Library Network.

The current faculty head of the Ilias Institute is Dr. Osiei Merdan, whose academic interests are in the field of ethics.

Pioneering in a sometimes underexplored field of study, the Demelan Institute is the oldest tertiary educational faculty of linguistics in the Second Empire of Anemos Major and among the finest language teaching institutions in the nation. Specialising in the teaching, transmission and understanding of human language and its nature, the dual role of the Institute creates a body uniquely suited to the teaching and comprehension of language as a material item and as a concept, both highly relevant to modern involvement in the social sciences.

Established in 1804 by Kantosthei Demelan, one of the earliest 'New Linguists' in Anemos at the invitation of the Trust and Fellows of Imperial College Ismalyr, the Demelan Institute was one of the new Institutes founded with the division of the Imperial College itself into smaller, more specialised academic faculties. At the time of its foundation, the teaching of language was increasingly popular but the notion of studying the concept of language itself was hardly so, and the Demelan Institute quickly grew to become one of the leading linguistics institutions in the nation, adopting a vanguard role for itself in its exploration of a hitherto unconsidered field of study. The Institute was initially located in the annex to the Ismal Institute, but was transferred to its new facilities along the Mordens Road in 1980 to mark its independence as an Institute of the Imperial College.

Formally the Demelan Institute of Linguistic and Language Studies, the Institute's dual role has historically served as the driving force behind the significant attention devoted to what is normally a relatively small department within orthodox universities; as well as linguistics, the Institute is responsible for the teaching of language (thus making it a core facility for many international policy students), and this means in turn that a wide variety of faculty and researchers come to the Institute not only to study linguistics in the context of the social sciences, but language in its own right, from broader cultural, political and regional angles alongside its social significance. The result of this is that the Department is somewhat administratively complex. Separated into broad departments of Language and Linguistics, the former is subdivided into languages of specialisation (with some more minor languages grouped under broader regional or common ancestry) while the latter is divided into areas of study (generally in areas of sociolinguistics, such as Minority Linguistics). With its reputation in both sociolinguistics and the teaching of languages, and the Institute's resultant influence over large swathes of the Imperial College's policy teaching, the Demelan Institute is a far larger presence within the Imperial College than comparable institutions in other tertiary educational institutions. With its pioneering position in the field of sociolinguistics feeding into the understanding of language by those who learn it, and the cultural, social and political basis to the learning of language at the Institute contributing to the comprehension of linguistic phenomena, the dual role of the Institute uniquely qualifies it for the teaching and understanding of language.

As an Institute of the Imperial College, the Demelan Institute is provided with and makes use of resource storage at the State Library of the Social Sciences in Anemos Rei, with extensive online and printed material within that administrative umbrella covering broad areas of sociolinguistic study. However, its second role as an institution for the teaching of language necessitate the maintenance of an independent resource repository for such purposes; as such, one of the buildings along the Institute's current Mordens Road location is used to house the Ormonei Library of Language. Maintaining an extensive collection of foreign literature and teaching material in a wide variety of languages, and making full use of its recent subterranean expansion to accommodate the significant number of language learned and taught at Imperial College Ismalyr, the Ormonei Library possesses a large printed and online selection of materials on in-house shelves and servers. Additionally, partnerships with other institutes of tertiary education in Anemos Major allow students access to many other universities' teaching resources as desired.

Due to the relative insignificance of its field in wider policy making fields, the sociolinguistic faculty of the Imperial College are hard pressed to find examples of specific instances of their academic area affecting society directly, instead suggesting that its notability lies in the subject's indirect effect on the understanding of society as a whole. However, it must be noted that the Second Empire's decision to adopt English as a formal second language and the regional normalisation of Ragnosian German and Japanese were largely the result of the Demelan Institute's work on the social implications of language, notably its cohesive and cultural roles. In terms of language, the high quality of the Institute's work in this area has been cited as one of the key reasons behind the notable advantages and successes of the bureaucratic class making up the diplomatic branch of the State Ministry of Foreign Affairs, allowing for levels of communication and comprehension of foreign culture unseen in most other diplomatic services.

Alongside its formal academic studies, the Demelan Institute plays an active role in the promotion of sociolinguistics around Anemos Major, with the faculties of linguistics at the University of Sailiei and the University of Leoskranei-Main directly administered from the Institute in Anemos Rei. Furthermore, the Institute is an active player in the National Board of Language Education and Accreditation, and participates in initiatives to encourage the teaching and learning of languages beyond curricular requirements within Anemonian schools and society. As the nation's pioneering sociolinguistic institution, the Institute also publishes the annual Record of Sociolinguistic Study.

The current faculty head of the Demelan Institute is Doctor Fenn Leipzen, whose academic interests lie primarily in the area of international comparative sociolinguistic study.

A unique institute in the wider context of the social sciences as an academic area, the Ordense Institute is a body that focuses on the study on human and resource geography in a purely social context where many other institutions would be content to explore such matters at a broader level. Its unique specialisation the driving force behind a highly proficient and imaginative staff, the Institute remains at the vanguard of research into highly relevant, highly volatile issues of population and resource distribution with global implications.

Founded later than most of its fellow Institutes, the Ordense Institute was established in 1925 as the increasing relevance of resource distribution and urbanisation patterns in the context of the social sciences became increasingly apparent to an increasing number of prominent social scientists within Anemos Major. From its humble beginnings, the Institute rapidly developed as a research powerhouse in a hitherto undeveloped area of study, building up a considerable base of theoretical material and research data through active research and partnerships with other bodies involved in similar areas to firmly establish itself by the mid 1950s as a prominent player in a field of study that had only recently been understood to be relevant in the context of the study of wider society. Relocated recently to the modern and unorthodox Malkantyr Complex, designed by the renowned architect Anhas Fiesler, the Ordense Institute continues to engage in world-leading research of global significance in areas including methodology and large scale data collection initiatives as well as orthodox research.

As the Ordense Institute of Social Geographic Research and Studies, the Institute is subdivided into broader Departments with a focus on the study of fields in the broad area of human geography and environmental studies. Staff arrangements are similar to those of the other Institutes, with an additional Methodology Department to oversee research methods and figure collation.

With a sizeable section within the State Library of the Social Sciences, the Ordense Institute's collection of printed and online material is as significant as that of the other Institutions within the Imperial College. Additionally, it maintains similar ties to similar departments across the country, sharing access to materials to ease the collective use of nationally dispersed items of interest. However, the Ordense Institute's primary source of resources comes from its broad collection of research data gained through independent and collaborative data collection initiatives and through partnerships with state-level organisations to collect information as varied as specialised census data to environmental figures, collating them on an accessible and secure networked database to greatly facilitate access to research information as desired by students, making the Institute uniquely well equipped to challenge the data complexities of its area of study.

Despite its relatively short time in operation when compared to its fellow Institutes, the Ordense Institute's achievements in the public field have been numerous and noticeable. Its active participation in the Green State Project (founded in 1992 as a national research initiative into the social implications of environmental damage) have placed the Institute in a highly influential position as a source of specialist environmental research and evaluation. The State Ministry of Internal Affairs and its Census Directorate are closely partnered with the Institute, charting social trends such as urbanisation and producing detailed evaluations and predictions on the basis of collated data. Additionally, the Ordense Institute has come into the public's eye frequently in more recent years due to its position as a major government source of policy proposals concerning state regulation of long term sustainability in social growth and trends.

Alongside its academic responsibilities, the Ordense Institute is known for it co-management of the State Urban Database, the Environmental Database of Anemos Major and its position as the host for the biannual Urban Development Expo in Anemos Rei.

The current faculty head of the Ordense Institute is Doctor Alimanyr Forense. His academic specialisation is into modern patterns of urbanisation.

Introduction
Aspects of Life

Image

A traditional and modern university set in the heart of Anemos Rei, student life at Imperial College Ismalyr is consistently rated highly due to the unique combination of location, student input and staff care that comes together to accommodate almost any combination of interests and personality traits. With a wide variety of opportunities available to its students, the only certainty is that no two experiences at Ismalyr will be the same.

Comprehensive student support is offered by the Imperial College, and access to resources and facilities is unrivalled by most universities through Ismalyr's location in the centre of the nation's capital and its partnerships with a wide variety of institutions. With direct access to and authority over the national State Library of the Social Sciences, a number of other libraries besides and a wide selection of ministerial records, the Imperial College is well equipped to provide students with the resources required by so expansive a subject area. A wide variety of student led initiatives, ranging from the unions to small study groups, are run with the intent to make students' experience of Ismalyr more enjoyable, and even where the university does not own or hold assets and connections, the simple act of being within the capital provides students with the opportunity to expand horizons in countless different directions.

Listed below are some aspects of life at Imperial College Ismalyr for the benefit of those intending to study either at the Imperial College in particular or within the State University of Anemos Rei.

Aspects of Life

> Anemos Rei <

The capital and heart of the Second Empire of Anemos Major, and a major international hub for a range of economic and political entities and activities, the City of Anemos Rei and the Metropolitan Area surrounding it is the largest single urban entity in Anemos Major in terms of size and population. Housing the major institutions of state, from the Imperial Citadel at the heart of the city to the Ministries of State and Anemos Major's tricameral legislature, the city of Anemos Rei stands at the centre of the sociopolitical institutions, the study of which Ismalyr is dedicated to. The Imperial College itself, founded in around 1400 CE, is located near the centre of the city alongside these institutions, and has traditionally been associated closely with the great institutions of state since its inception.

Naturally for a city of its size and scale, the city of Anemos Rei boasts a wide range of venues, sights and activities for its student bodies independently of the school itself. In the central districts which Ismalyr students will likely operate in alone, the higher brow theatrical entertainment and gastronomic establishments of the Lords Avenue, concerts and sports fixtures held in large venues such as the Central Sports Stadium and Complex and the wide range of films, galleries, recreational activities and seasonal events besides provides students with an endless selection of potential diversions (or quite possibly additions) from their studies, encouraging an outgoing and vibrant lifestyle parallel to academic vigour and pursuits.

Travel and transport in Anemos Rei is highly efficient and world-rated, with high speed, high quality over and underground transit options providing students with a similarly wide range of potential options when getting in and around Anemos Rei. Public transport options throughout the city include buses, overground train lines, the Rei Metro and a number of localised options such as monorails or tram-lines, and the Metropolitan Government offers student discounts as part of its 'E-Trans' electronic public transport and amenity payment system upon presentation of student identification alongside E-Trans applications. Other options include private taxi companies or individually owned motor vehicles; the road network in Anemos Rei is relatively large and orderly with rapid access to above-ground highway networks, and a number of long-stay parking slots are available near the Imperial College's facilities for those intending to own vehicles during their time at the College (as well as on-road spaces for leased housing in the later years of undergraduate study and graduate students). In terms of access to the rest of Anemos Major and abroad, the Metropolitan Area of Anemos Rei is a major domestic and international hub; multiple connection points are available for domestic and international travel through rail and aerospace services around the city.

Living costs in Anemos Rei can be high due to its centralised location, especially as international students are not covered by the public financing of the state university program. Payment schemes should be looked into from an early date, and part-scholarships and university funding can be applied for through the College Bursar.

Image

> Student Community <

At Imperial College Ismalyr, the focus is on the student. From the undergraduate level to doctorate students, all members of the community are encouraged to show initiative in helping themselves and the community around them, creating a proactive approach to both subjects and life in general.

The student community at Ismalyr is highly varied, an accumulation of talent and potential from the four corners of Anemos Major and then some. The public financing of university education for domestic students means that the rich-poor divide is no significant obstacle to the gifted when it comes to competing for university places, and the result is that the community at Ismalyr is one where ethnic and monetary backgrounds, disabilities and other sources of discrimination are traditionally insignificant, allowing for the creation of a varied and vibrant community working hand-in-hand to enhance the enjoyment of their time at the Imperial College. With student input from a large community of bright and innovative minds, and a student support apparatus developed with hard-earned experience over the hundreds of years of the Imperial College's operation, the Ismalyr student community is comfortable, quirky and constantly evolving.

On average, the Ismalyr student is highly motivated and highly intelligent. The cradle of the the Anemonian political and bureaucratic elite, and the birthplace of countless noted scholars, Ismalyr's reputation is one of unparalleled excellence and opportunity; resultantly, the quality of the education offered by the Imperial College and the value of the degrees offered are matched by the ferocity of the competition to obtain both. As such, a student at Ismalyr has already succeeded in one of the fiercest competitions for university places in Anemos Major, a sign of some motivation and ability in itself. Over the centuries, the students who have passed through the Imperial College have tended to exhibit remarkable initiative, innovativeness and intelligence; above all, however, they are individuals, making their own way in life in their own signature fashion.

At Ismalyr, the cornerstone of student-led student life is the Students' Union and the various Committees and Associations set up under its auspices to cater to specific needs. The Union, whose members are elected from across the school and exists in an undergraduate and graduate form, is a body of students who aim to make life more comfortable for the school community through activity in a number of areas. Amongst its virtually countless tasks, the Union publishes various intra-collegiate journals, newspapers, magazines and more, negotiates with local business associations to reduce student prices when and where possible, and acts as the intermediary between the College's administration and student body over matters such as subsidies and scholarship provision. Additionally, the Unions act in conjunction with a number of sub-organisations (committees) and associations to organise student-led activities; committees such as the Festivities Board or the Committee for Sport and Recreation are tasked with the organisation of events and the securing of materials, premises and financing required to do so, while smaller associations like the Gothic Cheeses Association or the Asakuran Musical Association are smaller clubs of like-minded members with certain interests who come together to share ideas and organise wider events for other members of the school. Under the umbrella of the Students' Union, the Ismalyr Community is provided with the security needed to lead peaceful lives at the Imperial College and a wide variety of activities and events to deviate slightly from that peacefulness where desired.

Alongside the Students' Union, which manages the vast majority of students' desires, the Imperial College maintains a series of student support services to cater to everyday and particular needs and requirements. The Support Centre, part of the central university administration, is the 'nerve centre' of sorts; accessible via intranet e-mail, phone or through direct visits to their offices, students can access facilities such as the college counselling service, disabilities support, careers advice and similar basic aid services. Through the Students' Union, students can also access aid services such as student-to-student counselling and mentors for guidance around the College. Additionally, the Imperial College maintains close administrative ties with a number of local public and private sector entities; immediate and free-of-charge medical treatment (for all students regardless of origin or fee status) is available at an on-site State Health Directorate hospital complex, and immediate financial aid can be accessed via one of the many banks with which the Imperial College has ties if necessary.

> Academic Resources <

At Imperial College Ismalyr, a core tenet of the institution from its foundation is to provide students with the resources and data necessary, without exception, to study a highly complex set of subjects based strongly on notions of observation and analysis precluding evaluation. With everything from libraries to laptops, the Imperial College maintains a vast and carefully administered selection of owned or otherwise accessible learning materials and academic resources.

The core of any students studies at the Imperial College will most likely be their unparalleled direct access to the vast State Library of the Social Sciences. A legal deposit by Crown mandate, and the largest single collection of printed and online social scientific material in Anemos Major, the State Library of the Social Sciences maintains a vast collection of material collected over hundreds of years and is administered directly by the Imperial College as part of its responsibilities to the State. In strict terms, day-to-day administration is performed by the SLSS Association and Fellows, with the Imperial College providing oversight as necessary. The State Library of the Social Sciences is divided into three main components. The main building, a high-rise structure located near the Ismalyr main building in central Anemos Major, contains some six million printed items ranging from books and subscribed journals to statistical data on its shelves, and is a large building fitted with extensive disability support facilities, reading areas and a comfortable working environment for students who wish to use it. Books in print can be borrowed for a period up to three days by individual students and renewed upon visiting the library, allowing for independent research in personal environments if necessary. However, the overall collection held by the SLSS amounts to some two hundred million printed volumes, and the vast majority of this is held in an underground facility located a little further outfield at the Mardlen Citadel in Anemos Rei. With a significant degree of the facility administered through automated subsystems and machinery, the Mardlen Citadel Repository is connected directly to the SLSS main building by an exclusively owned and utilised subway train service. Books requisitioned from the central SLSS can be automatically located, moved and loaded onto so-called 'transport trains' by the Mardlen Citadel Repository's control network; with trains departing the Repository every half hour, this greatly facilitates access to one of the world's largest stores of academic material. Books stored within the Repository cannot be borrowed for personal use. Finally, the SLSS is also responsible for the maintenance of the library's online store of information; with a vast array of servers maintained in a data centre parallel to the Mardlen Citadel Repository, the information stored in print in the SLSS has been mostly transferred to digital form alongside a large portion of exclusively online material, all of which can be directly accessed by Ismalyr students via the school intranet. In addition to internally secured material the Imperial College's partnerships with a number of other Anemonian universities and a selection of government institutions means that the SLSS online database gives students direct access to virtually all relevant online stores of academic information within the Second Empire itself.

In addition to the extensive stores maintained by the SLSS, the Imperial College maintains administrative authority over a number of other libraries. These include the State Imperial Historical Library, another legal deposit with an extensive subterranean repository and a significant store of historical material, the Andal Economics Library and Andal Network Library, the Sorelas Institute's Library of Legal Material, the Ilias Library, Olmonei House, the Ormonei Library of Language and the Ordense Institute's networked research database. Furthermore, direct interaction and partnerships with government institutions and other entitites allow virtually unparalleled access to further resources, such as the Crown Political Repository and the Ministry of Justice's Legal Repositories.

As well as its libraries, the Imperial College maintains a highly efficient Information Technology department to facilitate computer use on campus. A secure high speed wireless network is utilised in all Ismalyr affiliated facilities and accommodation to allow direct access to the inter and intranet by students of the Imperial College. PCs are provided for use in most major facilities and school administered accommodation, laptops can be rented by students free of charge with a returned deposit to cover potential theft and damage, while individuals are also permitted to use their own computers to connect to the school network from their accommodation and workplaces. The school network, as well as providing 24h access to the school internet and intranet, is carefully maintained and students are able to access Institute and Department specific work-pages, streamed lectures, downloadable assignments and help pages as desired from across the Imperial College. Pages are mostly computer and mobile compatible. Additionally, the Information Technology department maintains a helpdesk accessible by phone, e-mail and walk-in for services ranging from troubleshooting to computer repair (paid for as part of school fees, unless computer repair costs are significant enough to warrant independent payment).

For special needs students, a Language and Learning Centre exists to provide assistance during the time spent at the Imperial College.

> Student Accommodation <

Accommodation is a key part of any university experience, determining the home environment and accompanying individuals in every student's life. Accordingly, it is a matter which the Imperial College places great importance upon and focus on, taking students' needs and desires into account at every level to provide a varied and consistently exemplary selection of potential domiciles for undergraduates, graduates and faculty members.

Unlike many constituent universities of the State University of Anemos Rei, Imperial College Ismalyr opts not to utilise the intercollegiate accommodation offered jointly by the State University's central authority. Rather, in possession of a significant amount of property and residential developments through its historical place within the capital and ties with the government, the Imperial College is able to offer its students a more personalised, college-specific selection of potential accommodation to satisfy needs at a variety of levels.

For undergraduate students in first and second years, the basic form of accommodation is the Hall, a residential block of students with full catering, year-long housing and staff to ease integration into the university environment and the city of Anemos Rei. Originally the centre of all student activity in the Imperial College upon its foundation, the traditional role of the Hall has diminished over recent years. However for undergraduates within Ismalyr, competition for and between particular Halls can be fierce in academic and non-academic fields alike, and Hall-specific identities and traits have developed over time to make it a highly involving bonding experience for all those involved. Listed below are the halls and brief profiles for student perusal.

  • Ardentyr (c. 1400) - One of the three founding Halls, Ardentyr is traditionally known for its grand buildings and accommodation, and similarly grand characters within its walls.
  • Selenyr (c. 1400) - Similar to Ardentyr, one of the founding Halls with a reputation for grandeur in both material terms and in terms of those who are part of its community.
  • Malenyr (c. 1400) - The third of the founding halls, located a little further away from the other two and considered to be the 'junior' founding hall at Ismalyr.
  • Symovien (1580) - Established in 1580 for the accommodation of less materially wealthy students, Symovien is a small Hall with a reputation as the 'lovable rogue' amongst the Halls of the College.
  • Mardlen (1670) - A relatively large but relatively unremarkable hall built for accommodation expansion purposes in 1670. Its architecture is unique within the school, but besides that its identity is relatively netural, making Mardlen residents unusually independent-minded among Halls.
  • Condilen (1702) - One of two Halls established in the early 1700s as a result of direct donations. Known for the high quality of its catering and events, with a reputation as a 'partying' Hall despite its age and grandeur.
  • Fondosei (1703) - The second 'Noble Hall', known as such due to its establishment by noble donations. Known for its sporting prowess despite its comparatively small size, with a formidable presence on the playing fields of Rei.
  • Us-Maretyr (1804) - Established in 1804 as part of the Imperial College's restructuring. Us-Maretyr is a relatively large Hall, and boasts a somewhat cosmopolitan location along the Lords Avenue; seen as one of the more trendy houses, it is academically formidable nonetheless.
  • Asakura (1804) - Founded by the Asakuran Imperial Family to house students from the small Japanese speaking nation to Anemos' south. Well known for its Asakuran architecture and cultural influences, though it has become an orthodox Hall in terms of selection and accommodation (with a disproportionately large Asakuran presence).
  • Telemar (1804) - The third 1804 Hall, Telemar was founded by direct Imperial mandate as a relatively small and very materially endowed option. Located slightly further away from the centre of Anemos Rei, Telemar's vast gardens and high quality accommodation are accompanied by a well known informal and friendly atmosphere.
  • Ragnos (1902) - Established in 1902 to commemorate the Anemonian victory in Ragnos. Primarily residential like Mardlen, with a large presence by the Olmonei Gardens in the form of its looming late 19th century architecture and arches.
  • Mirschendillin (1970) - The newest Hall, founded in the business district of central Anemos Rei and a very modern Hall in terms of architecture and amenities. Widely considered to be 'trendy', and the alma mater of many significant business and technology figures in recent years.

Additionally, third year undergraduates and graduates, who are nonetheless permitted to apply for Halls, are also allowed to rent smaller housing units owned by the Imperial College across central Anemos Rei. These housing units vary in size and nature; the five main blocks of housing offered by the Imperial College are the 17th century traditional row of four bedroom housing along Mardlen Row (next to the Hall of the same name), a similar row of four bedroom houses along Ilimei Avenue further outfield (constructed in the mid 18th century), two large early 1900s apartments overlooking the Melantyr Palace Gardens and the modern Feilantyr Tower residential high-rise build at the end of the Lord's Avenue. A full list of available residences and associated costs can be provided by the Imperial College upon request. Please note that successful applications require initial deposits, or they will be made null and void.

Students are also permitted to seek independent accommodation within Anemos Rei provided they are either in their third year of undergraduate study or graduate students. The school maintains close ties with a number of local landlords for this purpose; contact and advice can be offered by the Students' Union upon request.

Applications to the Imperial College are managed through the State University of Anemos Rei's central authority, and passed onto us through this centralised system. As such, applications will follow the general pattern employed by most universities within the State University of Anemos Rei, using a highly similar application form and queries.

Please note that admissions to the Imperial College is highly competitive, and that not all applicants can be assured a place upon application. Places will be provided on the basis of individual merit as perceived by the college; decisions are final, and cannot be appealed on the basis of merit alone.

Overseas student fees for the 2013-14 period have been set at 12,928 Anemonian Filerin (15,671 Universal Standard Dollars) per annum for undergraduate courses and 19,391 Anemonian Filerin (23,506 Universal Standard Dollars) per annum for graduate courses at both Masters and Doctorate levels.

06 - International Programs and Exchanges

Introduction
Available Programs and Exchanges

Image

As a highly internationalist institution with a deep focus on expanding the focus and horizons of our students, Imperial College Ismalyr is dedicated to the establishment of close working relationships with a variety of institutes and organisations both within and without Anemos Major. Our ties with a large number of prominent Anemonian establishments, such as the Universities of Sailiei or Fierei, are particularly close, and with our entry into the international stage it is our intent to extend the opportunity to form such relationships to similar entities overseas. From universities to foundations, we will consider each and every request and offer made to us in the interests of bringing the countless benefits offered by an institution such as ours to the wider world and those within it who would make use of them.

Ismalyr currently maintains three primary patterns of international partnership.

> Joint Degrees - Established at the postgraduate level, the Imperial College is willing to consider and construct two-and-two year courses spent at Ismalyr and a separate institution of higher education abroad in pursuit of specific postgraduate qualifications with the opportunity for travel and variety as an integral part of the learning experience.

> Exchange Programs - Either for undergraduate students or faculty, the Imperial College would be interested in establishing exchange programs between Ismalyr and a separate institution of higher education abroad with the intent to foster further understanding of our respective nations in those involved in resultant programs and provide opportunities of a similar nature to those accommodating such students or staff. Undergraduate students would complete a year abroad prior to beginning their full undergraduate studies at Ismalyr, while staff would be sent abroad for individually agreed periods of time on short or medium term tenures.

> Scholarship Foundations - Foreign entities are invited to establish bursary programs for talented overseas students at the Imperial College. Of course, given the relatively limited spaces available for overseas students, such programs would cover one or two students apiece; however, for those involved, it would create a valuable opportunity to further access to a world-class institute of tertiary education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Applications for international partnerships have not been formalised. Those interested are invited to write an open letter to the Imperial College on behalf of those who are to play the hosting party describing the nature of the program they wish to establish, and a short description of what their program entails.

Upon further request, a basic form has been created for those who desire a more formalised system of application. Utilising it is entirely optional; those applying to establish programs are welcome to utilise the form or pen an open letter.

Joint Degrees

Image

The Father's National Academy is the foremost institute of higher learning established in the state of Vortiaganica, and this joint degree is among the first to be created between the FNA and a foreign university. Concentrating on the realms of history and international affairs, the Joint Degree is a scholarship funded masters level degree taken over the course of four years, two in the FNA and two in Ismalyr, studying a student-led mixture of international and historical subject areas towards four dissertations (again, two in each nation). The primary objective of the course is to foster an understanding of the respective nations and their academic methodology, and is designed for those who intend to enter further academia or international policy-making with an eye to encouraging wider perspectives on global affairs and history.

Exchange Programs

Image

An exchange program of three undergraduate students per annum and one professorial member of faculty ever three years over three year tenures to the Immerial Institution for Higher Learning in the capital of the Kingdom of Lrae-Epsos, Ladaera (Lrae), among the oldest and identifiable institutions of higher education in the Kingdom and an unrivalled opportunity to explore a simultaneously kaleidoscopic and bisected society through the lens of its finest university.

Image

With six undergraduate students exchanged per annum to one of the most prestigious tertiary educational institutions in the Roman Kingdom, the Anaerel Exchange is an entrance for students at Ismalyr into a wide variety of subject areas as understood by academics on the other side of the world, a year spent working with the finest minds abroad into broad questions of the social sciences in faculties of Roman renown such as that of law or political science.

Image

With the intentto foster a greater understanding of the respective participant nations' legal and governmental frameworks in detail at the pre-undergraduate level, the Iteval Exchange provides two students from Anemos and Thanatttynia each with the opportunity to study for a year in the other nation prior to commencing their undergraduate studies. For those students participating from Ismalyr, the exchange presents a unique chance to study at the Royal University of Princeton towards a deeper understanding of the Thanatttynian state and psyche through its formal systems of national governance.

Scholarship Foundations

Image

The Maranaxau Award is a scholarship program initiated under the auspices of Louis Berde of the accounting firm ProfEx with the objective of fostering qualities of perseverance in prospective economics candidates. Providing a full scholarship covering tuition, accommodation and living costs over the three years of an Ismalyr FSo degree, the Award also provides undergraduates at the end of their university tenure with the opportunity to join the firm on a fast-track program. To qualify for the Award, applicants are required to secure a place in an Ismalyr undergraduate economics course (IS710, IS720) and submit a personal application of interest to the firm itself. The scholarship is limited to seven international students per annum.

TO: Dr. Ianei Fenan; Dean of Admissions, ICI
FROM: His Royal Highness The Duke of Venice
CC: Melianae Ostonei; Chief of the Public Office, ICI
RE: Applying for Undergraduate Admission; International Program Application

Greetings:

My name is Francis Cartelli and I am a member of the Roman Royal Family (specifically I am second-in-line to the throne). I have had my eye on applying to ICI for some time now, and it seems that now I have that opportunity since I have recently graduated high school. Attached to this letter is my completed Undergraduate Application, as well as an International Program Application (which has been filled out by the Chancellor of Réne Mazarin Jr. University). I hope that everything is in order and that the said forms are exemplary. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Francis Cartelli
His Royal Highness The Duke of Venice

OOC: Haven't had the time to draw up a correspondence kit yet, so I'll respond to this OOCly for now.

I'm afraid Ismalyr doesn't do foreign campuses; it's a very localised university. But if you want to open up, say, an exchange program or a joint honours course of some sort between Ismalyr and an institution in your nation, that might well be fine.

Trade relations are a different matter; TG me about those, and we can discuss it there. There's no use asking a university about governmental affairs, however influential it may be.

OOC: Ismalyr's the name of the institution, not the place, and joint honours courses don't involve you relocating your university. I'm not sure a joint honours might actually be a good idea, though I'm all for an exchange. If you can specify the nature of the exchange, the level at which its occurring and the Institution you want to do it with, I'm sure we can work something out.

Personal Summary: International Relations is rated No. 1 for this character personal selection. Personally, Alexander Kovarii found that Business Studies as not 'exciting enough' - not entirely good when it involves with math and numbers. Thus, this selection is based on previous education courses taken back in home country. This character is interested in world history, specifically those related to politics and warfare. His initial understanding of IR reflects the needs to understand and how to prevent war. Hoping it would serve him in becoming a future diplomat, serving his own country.

Undergraduate Application
Imperial College Ismalyr (3ICI)
Overseas
20th June 2012 (Wednesday)

Dear Mr. Kovarii,

Thank you very much for your recent application to complete an undergraduate course at the Imperial College. It is with pleasure that I am able to inform you that we intend to offer you a place to read International Relations as part of the FSo course (IS540) in this subject. This offer is unconditional, made on the basis of examination grades and personal qualities obtained prior to submitting this application, and requires no further academic action on your behalf short of acceptance.

An undergraduate education at Imperial College Ismalyr implies a number of things; with the variety of options made available to students, the freedom to make decisions and the resources required to carry them through, an Ismalyr education is one with an unrivalled capacity to find and develop potential and talents, both as human beings and students of the social sciences. It is our expectation that every student endeavours to make full use of their time at this institution towards this aim, and our faculty and staff will be on-hand throughout to provide assistance and guidance where necessary.

The FSo in International Relations as taught at the Imperial College is one with significant breadth and scope in its capacity to support individual needs and interests, and we are confident that your particular pursuits are no exception to this. Where some modules in the course are oriented more towards statistical analysis and numerical modelling, other modules focus on the social, political and cultural aspects of international relations, choosing to pursue the subject area in a less scientifically bound fashion, and individual students are permitted to choose between the two as they desire. With the expansive education offered by Ismalyr in a subject area of great importance, we are certain that your diplomatic ambitions will be more than met so long as you are willing to provide the effort to make full use of it.

As an overseas student, a number of steps remain following your acceptance of this offer to ensure your place as a student in Anemos Major and, more specifically, Anemos Rei. Firstly, the College will utilise the information provided in your application to submit a student visa request to the State Ministry of Internal Affairs to permit your entrance into Anemos Major, and mandatory one-time registration of your biometric details to the National Database will be required upon entrance into the Second Empire. Objection to either of these requirements will, unfortunately, compromise your place at this university; consent to both requires no further action, but please information as soon as possible if you have objections and we will take them into consideration. Additionally, upon obtaining your student visa and registering with the National Database, we strongly recommend that you access a nearby rail or bus service hub and utilise one of the available terminals to create an E-Trans card for simple transit around Anemos Rei, a process that will only require a few minutes of your time. E-Trans cards can also be registered and obtained online (with a nominal fee charged for posting to your domicile). Please note that an initial deposit of 5 filerin is required, which can then be spent as part of your E-Trans balance. Finally, please note that overseas students are levied tuition fees (details are provided as part of the State University of Anemos Rei's application web-page); unless extenuating circumstances or scholarship programs apply, the Imperial College generally requires fee payments by the second week of the Winter term. Issues concerning payments should be brought to the attention of the Bursar; if short term payments cannot be arranged, the Imperial College will be more than willing to provide a period in which to secure funding.

Your application for a place at Asakura Hall has been accepted. You have been placed in the Main Hall, in a shared room. Room exchanges with other Hall residents in the same year are permitted so long as they are conducted before the beginning of term, but please inform the Hall directly if you intend to conduct such an exchange.

As a new student in a foreign country, it is entirely likely that you have questions concerning your application, place or the Imperial College as a whole. Please do not hesitate to direct such questions to us, either here or via direct contact, and we will ensure that you are provided with the information you require.

Congratulations on your acceptance into the College, and we look forward to welcoming you later this year,

Dr. Ianei Fenan

Dear Ms. MacMillan,

Thank you very much for your recent application to complete an postraduate course at the Imperial College. It is with pleasure that I am able to inform you that we intend to offer you a place to study towards a Masters (SSo) in Macroeconomic Management (specific course requirements will be finalised upon your entrance into the College) under the Andal Institute of Economic Studies. This offer is unconditional, made on the basis of examination grades, qualifications and personal qualities obtained prior to submitting this application, and requires no further academic action on your behalf short of acceptance.

The postgraduate experience at Imperial College Ismalyr is unique in its breadth and freedom, and the implications of this are clear. With a degree of individualisation rarely found elsewhere and a genuine belief in the capacity of our students to independently seek their own paths to success and fulfilment, our approach to research at the postgraduate level is not focused on directing you as a student and human being, but helping you in your self-direction. Accordingly, it is our belief that postgraduate students will dedicate themselves without hesitation to the pursuit of excellence and innovation in their chosen subject areas, doing what they do best, and our staff and faculty will be present throughout to ensure that assistance and guidance is provided where necessary.

It is heartening to learn that Ismalyr's reputation spreads so far outfield, and confident in our belief that your desire for an education qualifying you for the highest tiers of public service will be found here in the heart of Anemos Rei. The Andal Institute has been responsible since its establishment some two centuries ago for some of the most radical and beneficial ebbs and flows in the Anemonian state and economic system, developing policy and theory in innovative and effective ways, and that experience and knowledge will doubtlessly serve you well in meeting your own state's economic challenges.

Issues concerning payments should be brought to the attention of the Bursar; if short term payments cannot be arranged, the Imperial College will be more than willing to provide a period in which to secure funding.

Your application for accommodation placement by the Imperial College has been noted. Accommodation will be provided in a Hall, and your particular accommodation has been secured in Us-Maretyr Hall. You have been placed in the East Wing, in a single room. Room exchanges with other Hall residents in the same year are permitted so long as they are conducted before the beginning of term, but please inform the Hall directly if you intend to conduct such an exchange.

Dear Mr. Boyznichov,

Thank you very much for your recent application to complete an undergraduate course at the Imperial College. It is with pleasure that I am able to inform you that we intend to offer you a conditional place to read International Relations as part of the FSo course (IS540) in this subject. However, as no public qualifications were provided to the Imperial College, we assume that no national level qualifications have been obtained as part of your secondary education; as such, your place at Ismalyr is conditional, and will only be made unconditional based on the results of a College set entrance examination to be sat in the Anemonian consulate to your nation, the details of which will be provided in due course.

Taught in a highly varied and individualised fashion, the FSo in International Relations is a multi-faceted and expansive view into the complex world of international socio-politics and the intricate interaction between various state and non-state entities on the global stage, presenting students with an engaging and academically rigorous course through which to gain a clearer understanding of a difficult subject area in their own particular way. If so desired, students are given the freedom to observe International Relations through their own lens, and you are no exception; over the three years of the course, your intent to join the diplomatic service of your home nation will be joined by a sophisticated understanding of the forces with which you will interact in such a position.

Additionally, we have noted that you may have difficulties without assistance in terms of language; as such, you have been referred to the College's Support Centre and will be contacted pending entrance into Ismalyr. From there, you will be provided with language assistance following an interview to ascertain the degree to which you will require help in acclimatising to a foreign linguistic environment during the course of your studies here.

Your application for hall placement by the Imperial College has been noted. Accommodation has been secured in Ragnos Hall. You have been placed in the Annex Building, in a shared room.

Congratulations on your conditional placement within the College, and we look forward to welcoming you later this year pending good results in your entrance examinations,

Dr. Ianei Fenan

Dear Mr. Juan,

Thank you very much for your recent application to complete an undergraduate course at the Imperial College. It is with pleasure that I am able to inform you that we intend to offer you a place to read Geography as part of the FSo course (IS230) in this subject. This offer is unconditional, made on the basis of examination grades and personal qualities obtained prior to submitting this application, and requires no further academic action on your behalf short of acceptance.

It is our expectation that every student endeavours to make full use of their time at this institution towards this aim, and our faculty and staff will be on-hand throughout to provide assistance and guidance where necessary.

At Imperial College Ismalyr, the study of Geography as an undergraduate discipline differs greatly to equivalent courses abroad, with a particular and unique focus on the geography of human activity, studying social distribution and human interaction with the wider environment within the context of the social sciences to further understanding in key areas such as environmental sustainability and urban demography. Though the study of landscapes falls primarily under physical geography and is not an aspect of the course at Ismalyr, the nature of the undergraduate course at Ismalyr is such that a combination of academic rigour and the promotion of independent thought and analysis arms its students with the capacity to approach a uniquely challenging subject with the open mind necessary to comprehend it. Over the three years of your studies here in Anemos Rei, the FSo in Geography will present you with a unique opportunity to explore an academic area you hold an interest in and decide upon your further ambitions from atop one of the stablest platforms available in the wider world today.

As an overseas student, a number of steps remain following your acceptance of this offer to ensure your place as a student in Anemos Major and, more specifically, Anemos Rei.
