[PASSED] Commend Warzone Codger

Postby The Great Destruction » Tue May 15, 2012 8:24 am

[The text of the resolution actually at vote is similar but slightly different to the original text, and follows. --Goob]
RECOGNIZING the nation of Warzone Codger as a leader of great caliber when all odds were against success.

OBSERVING the endless efforts in rescuing and recruiting lost, rejected, and dislocated nations to join a Warzone and providing a stable environment for them were none should exist.

RECOGNIZING the time and effort spent carving out an oasis of hope in a blasted wasteland.

PROFESSING the message of peace and unity that was instilled in all nations that had the pleasure of dealing with Warzone Codger.

PRAISING the smooth hand of diplomacy and purpose that kept invaders at bay for so long.

CELEBRATING the accomplishment of holding the position of regional delegate of a Warzone for no less than 365 days.

PRAISING the value of the contribution Warzone Codger has given to Warzone Airspace.

PROCLAIMING the nation of Warzone Codger be recognized with commendation that is both earned and deserved.

HEREBY COMMENDS The Retired Observer of Warzone Codger

Here is my proposal

A quick scan doesn't reveal any errors from me.
I'd suggest changing the last line of the resolution be changed to "Hereby Commends, Warzone Codger", but It would work either way,

As I stated in the other thread, I would remove all but the last or first instance using the region and nation tag.

I believe in Clause 2 it should be where instead of were.

It would be easier just to incorporate a "Grief Region" button, so you wouldn't even need to make the effort to do the actual raiding. Players could just bounce from region to region and destroy everyone else's efforts at will, without even bothering about WA status. Wouldn't that be nice. -Frisbeeteria

No, were is correct there, Its refering to providing a sheltering region for country that doesnt have one, no the concept of creating shelter where shelt cannot exist. The second idea is developed on a different line but I understand the confusion.

Perhaps it should have read "...were none should exist for them."

either way its leagally correct

It just reads wrong to me. It seems like you are referring to a place which would be "where" whereas "were" is a form of "be".

It just doesn't seem to make sense to me.

It doesn't make sense, in any context, and even if it did, the wording would still be awkward. What do you mean when you say "[where] none should exist?" I have no opinion on this resolution, but on principle (improper grammar), I'll vote abstain unless voting becomes necessary.

The wording isn't the greatest, but the intent is clear. The WA wordsmithers will just have to get over it. Anyway, I have tertiary knowledge about the work of this nation and have voted in favour of this commendation. Congratulations!

Shameless self-promotion propaganda by a current resident.

Besides, there's a justification for virtually no democracy for 365 days in the name of

providing a stable environment
, I quote...

Seems like a reasonable commendation, but do we have any evidence?

Kudos to that. It's difficult for Datavia to decide on such an esoteric issue.

Yep, against.

365 days? Not really a big deal considering some delegates have been elected and stay elected for 6-7 years.

So wait, what exactly did Warzone Codger do? It seems like a good proposal, but I don't understand what is so commendable and if there is any proof he did what the proposals says he did. Is it just for holding the position of delegate for 365 days? Because there have been nations that have held a position as delegate for longer than that.

Warzones are game-created regions especially created with special rules (temporary bans and no influence) to encourage raiding/defending/'conflict'.

They were pretty much ignored for years through (Created in 2004 and dead for almost all the time since, The YoungWorld aside) until I came along and built up Warzone Airspace. From that platform I promoted Warzone play everywhere and anywhere, and now Warzones are known again, with their own communities and niche group of participants and finally fulfilling their premise.

At 365 days (plus another 115 days from my first stint), I've also the longest delegate of any Warzone. It was a fitting time to step down.

---

Is that worth anything? You decide. I'm really barring myself from this thread now.

Security Council Commendation

Postby Halteria » Sat May 19, 2012 3:09 pm

Halteria has nothing against Warzone Codger. In fact, we hold quiet respect for this nation's tasteful name that aptly conveys curmudgeonly hostility. However, in an effort to get the Security Council to operate along the more capitalistic principles of the Chuck E. Cheese fast food franchise, we question the diplomatic value (the "token equivalency," if you will), of simply being a delegate in this region for a year.

Also, clause 2 is poorly worded. While our Glorious Leader has an untrimmable mustache and occasionally howls at the moon, he would chafe at being called a "wherewolf." Only after eating 82 pounds of prime rib, of course. Should clause 2 be fixed and additional evidence be provided, we would support a revised proposal.

That said, we really couldn't care less if this passes. Or if you use ketchup on one of Halteria's fine hamburgers. All-beef on a bun, with nothing. Enjoy it. Or don't. It's your right as a human.

If all what Warzone Codger did was active and successful promotion of regional development (OOC: voluntary role-playing)... Datavia would be honored to vote FOR this commendation in order to set a good example for the community of nations.

We're inclined to vote yes, but would rather not have to take the word of the comendee (is that a word? oh well, it is now) for it.

Gnomewatchers approves of Warzone Codger as a responsible community member, but that in itself doesn't warrant a commendation. We do not approve of The Great Destruction's proposal or the manner in which objections were simply dismissed or ignored, and are therefore voting Against.
