Because we've all had time to kill when we don't have an RP, or are waiting for responses, I figured this creative outlet would be fun and beneficial. The News Network, essentially a news conglomerate, takes news stories from everywhere, and gives them to individual media outlets for dispersal. To give something to entertain yourself, a reason to flesh out your nation a little, and a peek inside daily lives, I give you PNN. Any member of Pardes is free to write articles as long as they abide by the following rules.

XR-1 all systems go?

The Belfrasian Space Agency succesfully completed an orbital docking and reentry check with the XR-1 Achilles, the fourth of its kind just a day after the XR-1 Caledonia completed an simulated abort test ending with a landing at Estovakiva.

The XR-1, named after famous Belfrasian astronomer Xavier Robinson, is a $85 billion spaceplane capable of launching itself into a low-earth orbit without the aid of a booster system like the now-defunct Orbiter shuttle in a method called Single Stage To Orbit or SSTO. The series of spaceplanes began test flights in January 2012 and are expected to reach full operational capability by April the second, in which the XR-1 Lusankya is scheduled to take a series of experiments into orbit for a five-day stint.

Despite successes across the board the XR program is criticized for its $400 billion-a-year budget. The cost includes facilities, maintenance of the spaceplanes, fuel, salaries and other costs incurred by the existence of the spaceplane system. Current development of the much larger XR-5 for cargo missions is, just for developing it, costing almost $50 billion a year. Once it is completed the estimated cost of the program will be raised a further $284 billion annually.

Currently six XR-1s are in existence with six separate states sponsoring their own individual one. Sponsoring is a way of saying the subject nations are able to put crew aboard their sponsored XR-1 and have it perform missions, all the while they operate out of Belfrasian space centers and are paid for by the Belfrasian taxpayer.

Captain Jrennon Nalketh, captain of the XR-1 Achilles approves of the program, saying that it's necessary for future generations to be able to explore the system. He also hoped that given the drastic costs of the program, foreign investors will be found willing to utilise the system. The Triumvirate members Nova Caledonia and the Altrenian Administratum have already stated interest in the system and are already paying their part of the bill.

We’re scheduled to see the XR-1 ‘Dóchas’ of the Nova Caledonians take to the skies aboard an Energia rocket system this weekend for a mission placing a satellite past the 400km SSTO operational barrier of the XR-1.

The Energia is a mixture of an heavy-lift expendable launch system for cargo like the Ceres and Albatros and a booster for the XR-1 when needed. It is capable of placing 100,000 kg into orbit at a maximum of 200km, meaning the XR-1 will be in LEO with a full tank of fuel for independent operations.

As the technology and power of the Imperial Military increase, the future of Shrailleen seems brighter with each passing day. But how will the government respond to a million-strong army as it becomes increasingly expensive to maintain?

The LY909 shown above, nicknamed the "Sparrowhawk," is a light multirole fighter designed by Lyran Arms. First offered to the Shrailleeni government in light of the Cookish conflict in Dengali, its production was considered emergency top priority, and adequate facilities built with incredible speed from existing factories and machinery. With electronics supplied in part by the Empire's allies and armament produced in separate factories across the Empire, the first Shrailleeni prototype was born with weeks of the start of the conflict.

However, the speed of the production and the advanced design of the aircraft raised doubts in the minds of top military Matriarchs that the finished product would be sound, or even flight worthy. In addition, the Empire's few pilots had only recently finished training in the Allied States of New Edom, and were as yet untested in practical conditions. The risk was high enough that for the first flight test, the Mother Empress resurrected an ancient prayer meant to keep sailings ships safe from the dangers of the sea during the secret date of the test flight.

The prayers and Shrailleeni engineering worked, and the Empire's first Sparrowhawk flew successfully yesterday at around noon. The fighter's pilot, a young woman of common birth named Lystraya Telayarra, took the aircraft on a leisurely tour of the airspace over the small island testing facility, lapping the coastline twice before landing touching down once again. Lystraya reported that the electronics and sensors preformed perfectly, adding that "it felt like touching the Goddess herself."

Expensive Advancement

However impressive, the flight of the Sparrowhawk raised an important question for the Imperial Palace and the military alike. As Shrailleeni troops and equipment grow ever more modern and expensive, will the Empire be able to effectively maintain its compulsory military service? With a budget designed for a much cheaper age of warfare, even the new equipment assigned to the ordinary footsoldier has a much larger price tag than ever before. As more Sparrowhawks and, pending a rumored deal with Lyran Arms, even more advanced vehicles roll into Shrailleeni service, the matter becomes more pressing.

Compulsory military service is one of the backbones of Imperial culture. Originally created out of necessity, the military is now considered to be the right of passage for young adults into the larger world of adult responsibilities, including jobs, marriage, and government positions. Every Shrailleeni subject enters the military at the age of twenty, and remain for at least two years while learning the skills and discipline that distinguish Shrailleeni society. As a millennium-old tradition, changing the policy of the military would mean dramatic and sweeping cultural change throughout the Empire.

And yet that is precisely what the Matriarchy of War is advocating. Tress Vilnis fe Fromathra, Matriarch of War, commented on her decision to bring the matter before the Mother Empress.

"It would be one thing if we were reducing the size of the military for political reasons, but this is an absolute necessity. That fighter or others like it may mean the difference between life and death for our Empire, but it comes at a cost. And the new helicopters, MRLS, tanks, and AMTVs included in this package are only the tip of the reforms we have planned, reforms that will soon include an overhaul of the Imperial Navy and new additions to the fledgling Air Force. We simply cannot pay for all of this on the current budget, and I am told that cuts from welfare and education are out of the question. That leaves only one option left, and although I don't like it we simply have to cut down on the size of our military. That means the end of compulsory military service."

The proposal will go before the Royal Court and the Mother Empress within the week, the Cry will be eagerly awaiting the Mother Empress's pronouncement on the matter.

The War in Dengali
As Dressanna counts the Shrailleeni dead, two questions remain. Will peace reign in Dengali, or will the common animosity of the Edomites and the Cookish ignite another conflict...with the Empire of Quendi?

The conflict in Dengali, now being called "The Dengali War" by many in the Empire, has subsided for now, with the Cookish retreating back across the border after feeling the sting of the brave Shrailleeni and Edomite defenders. After three days of solid fighting near the obscure jungle village of Lakobi, the combination of unyielding ground forces and the aerial and missile supremacy of the Lamoni and Quendi militaries convinced the Cookish that the invasion of the peaceful country was not on the side of right, and talks are expected to commence soon. It is known that the Shrailleeni dead alone number in the thousands, though full statistics are still being compiled. However, as the Empire prepares to honor its dead alongside our Edomite brethren, there is some question of what the future holds.

It is well known that the conflict escalated due to the presence of a large Quendi carrier fleet in Dengali waters, which arrived to force the Cookish out of their deceitful annexation of the nation. Although originally hostile to the Shrailleeni presence there, the truth of the matter soon revealed itself, and the light of understanding was lit with the honorable Quendi. New Edom, however, felt threatened by the Quendi presence, and a standoff ensued which was broken only by the Cookish aggression that launched the Dengali War.

Now that peace reigns, that old animosity has resurfaced alongside Cookish claims that the Quendi are to blame for the conflict in the first place. If left unchecked by the voice of reason, many in the Empire fear that this mistrust may very well lead to another conflict, and a rising count of the dead. The Queen of Shrailleen and Dressanna, Arianna Resyanna fe Shrailleen, has stated to the Cry that the Empire plans to do everything in its power to show the Quendi our honor and gratitude for their aid and friendship in this situation, and to alleviate the fears of our Edomite friends concerning their presence in the area. Always on the side of Enlightenment, the early breakdown of communication with New Edom has been sworn not to be repeated, and the Shrailleeni government's hopes for a peaceful resolution to tensions in the area may be well founded.

As war with the Cookish seems a less likely prospect by the day, the emergency laws enacted to ensure industrial production have fallen to the side, and patriotic workers have again began to protest across the Empire. As the 'Railtic Christians' add their strange voice to the movement, many wonder how far behind the Republicans are from the 'Railtic Cross.'

New Edom Bans Feminism
The news that shocked the Empire becomes a hot topic for philosophers across the islands. As the Shrailleeni investigation takes its time, the questions emerge: What does the ban mean? Who are the real Edomite feminists? And is New Edom ready to hear the Enlightened Word?

Overcrowding in Major Cities
As the population of the Empire becomes increasingly urbanized, the great cities have begun to fill to capacity. As crowding and discontent grows, the government considers a major overhaul of the urban systems. 'The Great Blossoming,' as it is called, would extensively improve the electricity, water, road system, and public transportation systems of the Empires cities...and look stunning as well.

ICTURK CITY 05 APRIL - The Haishan Governor Central Bank(HGCB) recently released hard figures of Haishan's quarterly fiscal report. Insofar, the Haishan's Ikrin Index had undergo outstanding growth of 22.5% compared to the last quarter, setting a new record in Pardes and smashing the previous records that were previously attenuated with severe economic slump in Haishan. The base lending rate of 7% was reduced to all time low of 6.5% yesterday, in a bid done by the central bank to further fuel the rapid economy development of Haishan. HSLT-8 shares jumped at staggering 2 hikans at now 24 hikans per share, leading away other industries in communication sector in Haishan while followed closely by Jekon Manufacturing Corp in arms manufacturing sector standing at 22 hikans per share. Many forecasters and analysts stated that the news is completely revolutionary and unheard of since the inception of Haishan more than fifty years ago. SCANDAL Rocks Coalition Government!
Secretary for Foreign Affairs Caught in Embezzlement/Multiple Affairs

KANNLEM - David Kalimonson, Member of the Velstaad for Sedordia-Bellecom and guiding light of the Action Party's communist wing, has been arrested by the Central Crimes Division for embezzlement. The long-time politico, first elected in 1996 to the Velstaad, and instrumental in making Emmeline Balandros Leader of the then-Workers' Party in 2005, Mr. Kalimonson was arrested in broad daylight in Hustorn Square by CCD officers. He's been charged with 16 counts of embezzlement, stealing Department of Foreign Affairs funds to pay for multiple mistresses. Released on bail, Mr. Kalimonson immediately issued the following statement:

"Effective immediately, I am resigning from the Velstaad. I have allowed my worst natures to get the better of me, and brought shame to my government, my party, and the offices which I hold."

Mr. Kalimonson, whose wife Emma Kalimonson is also a member of the Velstaad and Undersecretary of the Interior, appeared before reporters accompanied only by his lawyer. Mrs. Kalimonson is believed to be filing divorce papers against her husband, who is likely to faced a central government court for the crimes he committed. Mr. Kalimonson apparently utilized the money to pay for lavish hotels and flats in Kannlem, where he would secrete his mistresses. At last count, they numbered five.

Hugh Canning, Undersec. for Foreign Affairs

The ruling "Forward" Coalition, a combination of the Action Party, Progressive Party, Socialist League, Assembly Party, and ten independents, is expected to quickly find a replacement for the disgraced Mr. Kalimonson. Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Hugh Canning (Progressive Party - Delfcynn-Zaidra) has stepped in to take the reigns of the Foreign Affairs Department while Forward's negotiators attempt to hash out who should take over. Based on ratios, the position should remain in the hands of the Action Party, but any of the other parties might well attempt to gain a better position to fill out their leadership roster, and Secretary for Foreign Affairs is a tempting target. Political observers are expecting hurt feelings over the potential appointment.

KANNLEM - In the wake of the Kalimonson Affair, Ossurwald the "Forward" Coalition has been in talks attempting to figure out just what they should do to replace disgraced former Secretary David Kalimonson. Now, Director Emmeline Balandros has named Lennox Arbalos, MV for Lokshier-Ongerden, as Secretary of Foreign Affairs, stunning the political world. Len, as he prefers to be called, has been a staunch critic within the Action Party of many of its positions on foreign affairs. He has described past military forays as "corrupt". He called his predecessor "a doctrinaire communist prick." When asked to comment on the Kalimonson Affair, Len said "I was right about him, he was doctrinaire to the bone. He even believed in the sharing of wives."

His appointment is not seen to be likely to increase Director Balandros' popularity within her own party. But it appears to be a calculated maneuver to prevent the appointment of a new Secretary for Foreign Affairs from being fought over by the other parties in the Forward Coalition. Len is popular with the youth of the Assembly Party, and has many friends within the smaller Socialist League. He has been independent enough that the ten independents who are part of the Forward Coalition will be happy. And his record on green issues is strong enough that the Progressives are likely to overlook his sometimes critical stance on Ossurwald's foreign policy.

Len was confirmed on the floor of the Velstaad, while Civic and Radical Party members watched sourly. They had been hoping to exploit the differences that surfaced over the vacancy, and Len's appointment means that they will remain in Opposition and Dissent. After his confirmation, Len rose to give his first address to the Velstaad as Secretary for Foreign Affairs.

"We have prosecuted a foreign policy that has been aimed not at enhancing ourselves, but at enhancing the powerful. Under my predecessor, we have strayed too far from the central foundation of justice and righteousness, to find ourselves in the murky waters of ambiguity and cost-benefit analysis. We must no longer base our foreign policy on what nation can give us the best bang for our buck, but rather on the fundamental purpose of government: to protect its citizenry. We must judge nations by their people, not by their governments. We must engage the people of those nations, not their governments. And we must not countenance supporting dictators, murderers, and thieves upon the world stage; no matter how well they might dress themselves in the clothing of democracy."

Len has also announced that effective immediately, all Ossurwalder diplomats have been recalled for a thorough review.

Karlos KIDNAPPED!
Former Director Seized On Kannlem Streets in Broad Daylight

KANNLEM — In a shocking daytime raid, unknown assailants kidnapped former Director of Ossurwald Tuathal Karlos. Mr. Karlos' driver, Abel Obbear, was shot dead by a total count of eighteen rounds, killing him almost instantly. Witnesses say that a small car containing three occupants seized the former Director after blocking his vehicle's forward motion.

The Kannlem Police, working the Central Crimes Division, have already established a taskforce to deal with the kidnapping. Kannlem Public Safety Commissioner Salima Dardreas told reporters that police "are doing everything [they] can to ensure that Mr. Karlos is returned to his family safely." Kannlem mayor Tamaya Carvetian went further; "our citizens need to know that they are safe on their own streets. We will not rest until the former Director is returned, and his kidnappers are brought to justice."

Mr. Karlos' wife refused to give a statement, while his daughter and son also refused to speak to reporters, saying "this is something we want privacy dealing with." News media is already speculating as to who might have perpetrated such a heinous crime. Political reasons seem possible, but it's just as likely that the thirst for attention may have driven this kidnapping. Until the kidnappers release a statement, it's all speculation.

APRIL 10 ICTURK CITY - Today mark an important event in history of Haishan, after more than fifty years of near isolation of Pardes stage, Sashan Vidin decided to embark what could be seen as the largest game-changer in Haishan and plausibly the Dongnam Continent. The SEPECU or its long name of South Eastern Pardes Economic Cooperative Union is the brainchild of the Ani Emperor is stated by the invitation letter sent by the Ani Empire to carry multiple potential objectives; enhanced inter-nation industrial relations, improved trade links and development of newer infrastructures. The Vidin was invited to attend the meeting at Imperial Palace, the symbol of strength and royalty of the Ani Empire. It's expected that Sashan Vidin will be discussing several key points over the formation of the pact in course of several days. This sudden news had took most of Haishan unguarded, voices of anxiousness amongst the citizens are heard and many businesses interviewed have mixed feelings over what will the Vidin agree and how it will affect Haishan as whole. Arms Procurement and Upgrade Programs Underway, said Defense Ministry

APRIL 12 NOVOST - The Defense Ministry in conjunction of Haishan's Office of Admiralty and Haishan's Aeroballistic Command recently announced a multi objective arms procurement and upgrade programs designed to bolster military capabilities of Haishan. These programs were said to coincide with Sashan Vidin's visit over the SEPECU first meeting yesterday but was delayed due to bureaucratic issues. A personnel under the Defense Ministry who wish to be unnamed quoted to say that, "..it's shame that the Vidin is not here with us to launch the program series. We expect to modernize the military of Haishan very soon, and worry not, it's just a standard procedure." It's said that the programs will include complete re-organization of Haishan's military units, establishment of several dedicated test ranges and test facilities, and inclusion of major research institutes in such massive undertaking. Amongst the research institutes that were confirmed to be inducted in the program are Hahao Kinematics Institute, Lie-Zui Materials Research Facility, Noroft Thermal Institute, Ikitan Mountain Research Facility, and Vakolev Energy Institute. Further statements released by the Defense Ministry confirmed on induction of manufacturing giants of Haishan, mainly the Jekon Manufacturing Corp, Miriko-Arms Industries, Kiteena Shipwrights and HSLT-8 (Sub-Technologies Division).

The procurement and development programs are expected to be executed in a time span of ten years - replacing the old and aging equipments fielded by Haishan's current military units by either developing or acquiring new weapon solutions. The Defense Ministry then announced a weapons clean up program, to either truncate or recycle old equipments in a bid to reduce increasingly high maintenance costs over current equipments and recover any losses. While most of Haishan's active military units and reservists applaud the new change, it's a different matter altogether for Haishan's logistical units given that they worry being terminated as a costly redundancy when newer and modern equipments were procured and started being used. Their concern however is partially valid - the Defense Ministry seek to reduce the defense budget allocated in all military units over shifting focus to develop newer weapons and retrenching redundant personnel is viewed as a real option by the Defense Ministry. This news had also sparked an intense debate between top level strategists of the Haishan's Government, in prima facie that Haishan may viewed as a war-bent nation on aggressively pursuing deadlier weapons amongst foreign nations in Pardes even though some strategists agreeing it's now or never - to upgrade Haishan's military against increasingly hostile intra and inter-regional scene. Nevertheless, it's expected that Haishan's military will become more modern than it's now, and becoming more compentent to protect Haishan's sovereignty properly. Tarsan Troops Move To Disputed Zone

The Primus Triumph, Overall Commander of the Armed Forces, made an announcement today in a televised speech from his office stating that, amidst rising tensions in the disputed zone, Tarsan troops had moved south. Additional troops have been moved to the fortress city of Calgarius. The Primus went on to say that Tarsan forces had the blessings of Mars and they would see victory if the vile Canhadast regime chose to act against the Republic. To the west, he said, waited a full naval armada to reinforce our troops and attack Canhadasti ports and ships. He said that we would not start a conflict, but we would not be caught unawares by a Canhadasti surprise attack.

The Research and Development Division also announced to the public that several new projects were coming off the line. The current project is promised to "break any defensive line Canhadast can erect". Lord Alpheus Prilla, Head of the Division, released his statement soon after the Primus speech. The R&D Division is a government owned conglomerate that comprises the armament companies the government bailed out in 2001. They receive the majority of Tarsan contracts, giving he government effective control of the armaments industry.

Caesar Declares Women's Rights and Outlaws Slavery

Just today, our Emperor, Caesar Xerxes

has just announced his Declaration of the Rights of Woman, stirring up many of the older Legionicans, but inspiring the newer generation. This announcement was directly followed the institution of new labor laws, which free the slaves of the nation.

The Declaration states that, "as full citizens of the nation of Legionica, all rights afforded to the male gender of Legionica shall be awarded the females of the Empire." This means that women may now serve more open roles in government, deal more in big business, and fight alongside the men and boys of the Legionican National Military. Some speculate this was all a ploy to boost draft numbers for an upcoming conflict, but no official comment was released. Rumors are being denied.

Also, the local Legionican sentries in each county were given the mission of releasing the indentured servants through force if necessary. Retaliation was minor, as the sentries were heavily armed and ready to deal with civilian conflict. Celebrations all over the country have broken out, and petitioners are working to declare April 19th as "National Liberation Day."

Military Leader Removed Following Comments About Premislydans

KANNLEM, Ossurwald — Consul of Special Forces Hector Faenkos has formally had his commission revoked by Secretary of War Rachel Bonesteel after he made comments to the press about disagreements with the People's Democratic Union of Premislyd over the disputed area between the two nations.

Csl. Faenkos told reporters earlier this week that "Ossurwald's new military doctrine has left it vulnerable to attacks. Without dedicated soldiers capable of understanding guerilla warfare, instead of these weekend warriors of the militias, Ossurwald can't expect to defeat better equipped militaries." Csl. Faenkos then elaborated, saying that the Ossurwalder Republican Army had "turned into a humanitarian force. Well guess what? Warfare isn't humane, that's why it's [expletive deleted] war."

Retribution from Ossurwald's War Department was swift. War Department insiders say that Sec. Bonesteel, architect of Ossurwald's new military system, immediately ordered Csl. Faenkos' resignation, which he refused to tender. Thus, his commission was then revoked. Sec. Bonesteel delivered the following statement to reporters. "Ossurwald expects a modicum of discipline and respect of authority from its soldiers. It expects more than that from its officers. Consul Faenkos brought this on himself, and we look forward to finding a more qualified officer from among the Special Forces."

Csl. Faenkos and Sec. Bonesteel were well-known to have a rocky relationship, even among Ossurwald's competitive High Command environment. Csl. Faenkos was the highest-ranking officer advocating the vipistoc doctrine of lighting guerilla warfare. Sec. Bonesteel never formally served in the ORA, instead she organized her local militia at the age of 16.

IT'S SADDENING to discover the long-suffering Consul Hector Faenkos has had his commission revoked by Secretary of War Bonesteel. Faenkos' influence on the military is undoubtedly one that should be missed. Faenkos was a student of the military campaigns of the early 20th Century against the hated Murrasos regime. He realized better than anyone that incorporating a force capable of rapid strikes with low resources was necessary to keeping the enemy off guard.

Rightly called the "Father of the ORA's Special Forces" Faenkos resisted the overwhelming traditionalism of relying solely on the Kelruss for special forces needs. Faenkos' tenure undoubtedly proved that ORA special forces were just as strong as the ethno-military culture of the Kelruss, while adhering to Ossurwald's democratic values more than the Kelruss ever could.

While a strong proponent of special forces, and the vipistoc doctrine that was developed by ORA thinkers immediately following the successful defeat of the Murrasos regime, Faenkos always came in under-budget on whatever he requested. "Keep it lean and mean," he said. The ORA under Bonesteel and Director Balandros has grown fat and slovenly. It's got too many new toys to play with. Loud, expensive, flashy toys, the sort that never would've been seen during the '60s and '70s.

With nearly four decades of service to this country, that someone like Hector Faenkos could be unceremoniously dumped this way besmirches Ossurwald.

Consider all the different ways Hector Faenkos has been described: "a terror, hard to get along with, a prankster, vile, vindictive, righteous, strong in his convictions, the most dangerous man in the Ossurwalder military." The last one was his own coining.

Faenkos viciously opposed any attempts to modernize the Ossurwalder Republican Army, even though by 2006 it was woefully outdated in its command structure. It still reflected the attempts to reconcile the flying columns of the original ORA from the 1920s and the National Army that it absorbed following the overthrow of Ferdinand Murrasos. How vehement was Faenkos in opposing this? He even opposed eliminating the "regiment" designation that columns had, a largely vestigial unit that was essentially there only for ceremonial purposes.

Faenkos' special forces were designed to be tools of government overreach. As opposed to the Kelruss, whose code is "No Loyalty Unquestioned", the ORA Special Forces motto is "Go Boldly Forward Forever", suggesting an unwillingness to look back, to consider orders. Faenkos' hated criticism or questions. In his mind, he knew better than the rest of the officers on the High Command put together. He knew better than even the Secretary of War.

Yesterday's comments weren't the first time his mouth has gotten him into trouble. "I want an army that can eat babies and bullets for breakfast," was jokingly uttered early on in his career, when reporters asked him why he was such a forceful advocate for ORA Special Forces. Some have tried to paint him as a defender of democracy. Hector Faenkos is a defender of only himself.

Communists Causing Uproar

Today, a massive protest in Hienmenograd left two dead, nearly a hundred injured, and resulted in three thousand arrests. Many of whom are still being held for their communistic beliefs alone.

Today, thousands gathered in the streets waving red banners and vandalizing shops of the "bourgeois". The movement, called the Red Express has been gathering popularity in Hienmenia since 2004, but membership has increased tenfold in the past month due to the increase in recruitment recently. The military arm of the Red Express, called the Hienmenian Liberation Front has been working alongside other local gangs and terrorist organizations to now have an estimated number of 40,000 or so. Will this threat continue to rise? Or will it collapse in the usual socialist fashion? Clearly, the government is not sold on the latter, since three battalions from the 26th Infantry Division were moved to nearby Camp Maxey after the violent protests.

IN SALAH, Nalaya - The curtain of secrecy surrounding Nalaya's arsenal has for a brief moment been raised just enough for a glimpse with the open acknowledgement and praise of the military's latest weapon test. The bomb, better known to the military as Sokhak (nightingale, in English), was successfully dropped over the desert here in the Dominion and is reportedly the beginning of a new, blossoming phase in weapons development. For many here in Vatan, it is a particularly important achievement, as many of the scientists who collaborated to bring Sokhak into being are natives of the region. It is also a sign of independence, as this is the first new model of weapon developed wholly in Nalaya.

As for concerns regarding radiation, the scientists and researchers have a great deal of reassurance to give the inhabitants of the region. While Sokhak is still technically regarded as a thermonuclear bomb, design differences have drastically reduced the amount of radioactive material. Fallout is restricted to the directly surrounding area, far from populated areas and the local water shed. While it may sound almost like science fiction, there is a certain amount of hope that this success may someday lead to something such as the neutrino bomb.

Undoubtedly, this is a hallmark of a new direction in Nalayan military technology. "Cleaner" bombs may come to mean more frequent testing in the area and more precision in the design. And while the state and contents of the Nalayan arsenal remain highly guarded secrets, this has clearly demonstrated the ability of the regime to manufacture serious and dangerous weapons. The call went out weeks ago, a message from a small, underdeveloped nation going out to the rest of the world. The message was simple, the king of Krutongo was seeking the most Enlightened religions in the world to teach the ways of true divinity to his people. The Empire, as part of the Imperial Court's new campaign to bring the teachings of the Mother Goddess to the rest of the world, was quick to respond to this call. After weeks of walking among the Krutongan people, discussions with nobility, and meetings with the king himself, the path became clear. The people of Krugtongo were ready for Enlightenment.

The Priestesses of the Mother Goddess who arrived in Krutongo found, to their astonishment, a strong tradition of matriarchy already in place among the village people. The village matriarchs made all of the most important political and agricultural decisions, with the local men having a voice but not the final decision-making power. Their native religion, an eclectic and disorganized superstition, soon gave way as the power of the Enlightened Word reached the ears of the Krutongan people. It became clear very quickly that these were sisters in spirit, and negotiations began immediately with the king to have the Temple of the Mother Goddess brought to his shores.

The Empire was not the only nation present, however, and the king did not seem interested in giving up his power to follow the Enlightened Path, as patriarchs are prone to do. The masses were with the Mother Goddess, however, and a young relative of the king found a sympathetic ear to the will of his people. This man took the name Falren Teltekor, and with the blessing of the Mother Goddess and the wishes of the Krutongan people he split from Krutongo proper and founded the Queendom of Krutongarra, forging a glorious new future for the matriarchal society.

The new Regent of the Queendom continues to rule with a just and fair hand, and has been crowned by the Mother Empress herself, who arrived personally to consecrate the territory for the Mother Goddess and make it an official part of the Empire. Efforts are already underway to greatly enhance the infrastructure, medical facilities, education, and industry of the newest Shrailleeni state, and the first group of young Krutongarran women and men have joined the Imperial Military to begin their training. The road ahead will no doubt be long, but the enthusiasm and wisdom of the Krutongarrans is already apparent. With the borders secure and patrolled by the Imperial Guard and the first major seaports under construction, it is certain that Krutgonarra will be a rich and integral part of the Empire in the centuries to come.

Sisters in Faith: New Edom's Feminist Diaspora

In a series of events that has shaken Shrailleeni across the Empire, the Allied States of New Edom has finally expelled the members of its Feminist Party from its shores. The move has struck the Empire deeply, and with mixed feelings. The Edomites, who could previously do little wrong in the eyes of most Shrailleeni, have revealed themselves as perfect examples of the inherent intolerance of the democratic system, and as proof that patriarchal hostility runs deep in even the most advanced nations. While voices across the Empire were raised in concern for the lives of the Edomite Enlightened, the news of the Empire's gracious acceptance of the nearly 2 million displaced Feminists raises new questions: Can the Empire provide for all of these wayward Sisters? And what will they do once they are here?

In the Empire's already crowded cities, the first question looms large. While the new policy of Imperial City of "Universal Feminism" is certainly an Enlightened one, there are physical concerns that must be addressed. In response to questions such as these, the Imperial Palace has made public their large, comprehensive plan for the relocation and care of the millions being sent to the Empire in exile. Some of these plans have been combined with the new Urban Planning Decree, which will be rebuilding large sections of most Imperial Cities from the ground up to make room for larger roads, public transportation, and new electrical and water systems. Provisions to supply ready housing for the incoming Feminists have been added to this with great urgency, and the construction of proper facilities is underway throughout the Empire. In addition, the incoming Edomites will not be concentrated in any one area, but spread throughout the Empire to avoid concerns of overcrowding and sectionalism. The Matriarch of Interior, a newly created government branch arising from the Matriarchy of State, had this to say:

"Our Edomite sisters may be staying with us for some time, possibly indefinitely. This is not something that can be put off or planned for in the long term, it must be addressed fully and completely here and now. These are women who are losing their homes, families, and lives to an intolerant and suspicious government. We must do all we can to make them feel welcome, and making sure that they have homes to go to instead of tents is the very least that the Empire can provide."

The Matriarch went on to describe the housing situation in detail, especially in Imperial City and Tahlmatora, made sure to point out that the Edomites will have unrestricted access to travel both within the Empire and internationally.

The second question is slightly more complicated, and has only been marginally addressed by the Imperial Court. They have revealed that the incoming Edomites will be granted the legal status of "Sisters in Faith," an ancient term that has not been used since the original liberation of Fromathra. This will grant the Feminist all of the benefits of Imperial subjects without having to contribute the same types of demands. Specifically, they will be granted access to healthcare, housing, and civil services as well as the protection of the Shrailleeni government, while being exempt from mandatory military service and taxation.

This system is good for a start, but obvious issues such as the right of Edomite refugees to find work and their status relative to the Allied States are still being debated. Some in the Empire are calling for the creation of a "pseudo-subject" law, which would allow the Feminists to find work in the Empire in exchange for paying Imperial taxes. This idea is being debated in the Imperial Palace, and a concrete statement from the Mother Empress is expected soon.

In the meantime, speculation runs wild. Many are wondering if the presence of the Feminists in the Empire is meant to act as a political tool, to counter the rising Edomite industrial and military presence in the Empire. With two Edomite bases being constructed for "mutual defense and instruction purposes," the presence of Edomite expatriates in the Empire could act as a shield against possible exploitation. It could also function to give the Empire greater political clout when dealing with the Allied States in the future. To date, no official or unofficial statements from Imperial City have verified either of these speculations.

GRAVENZ, Curfend, Ossurwald — In a horrific turn of events, William Touchstone, the President of New Edom, has been shot in the town of Gravenz. Following his attack, he was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital, Lusarnei District Medical. There are at present no reports of his condition, which remains unknown. The shooter has yet to be apprehended, though Curfend State Police say they are in the process of finding him.

The Assembly camp is now under police control, who are sorting through detained protestors in an attempt to find the would-be killer of President Touchstone. A spokesperson for Minister-President of Curfend Vidar Dalmolgan said that Dalmolgan was en route to Lusarnei District Medical, and fully aware of the extraordinary circumstances of the situation. Assembly Party leaders have not made an official announcement as to whether they plan to continue their protest, but they are expected to cancel after this turn of event.

As many of you know, we have invested in the acquisition and development of various different ships and other naval vehicles, and are now in the process of finishing building up our naval presence and are nearing the time where they Spherian people will show everyone just how powerful we have become." the young leader told the nation in a broadcast this afternoon.

Just as the Archon stated, troops have begun to pour into bases and stations all around the country. Sources withing the Spherian Government tell ENN that the number of troops in the military has gone from a little over one million troops to well over 3.5 million. One might ask how is this possible? With the number of young veterans from the civil war still in the reserves, it is quite easy to see millions being called back into service. There are also unsubstantiated reports of military officials visiting high schools and military academies around General Blackstone.

"This is great! My prayers to that whatever God there is have been answered! Cerberus Base is filled to the brim! We have just received a shipment of tanks! It all began when Vexus Energies announced the discovery of a large cache of natural gas and oil that is estimated to be worth nearly a trillion NDS! They have said they plan to develop the off-shore field and have already begun preparations for their first oil rig to be set up.

"This is great news! We finally can cut ties with the Cookish nation and become energy independent." one stock broker said as he began to buy Vexus energy stocks. The second surprise came in as King Mining Corporation posted their first profit since it returned to business after the civil war. Having found a new vain of gold and platinum in the Valerium Mountains have made the company profitable once more, ending fears that the company would file for bankruptcy.

"No one should ever bet against the KMC, they have been around for well over a hundred years. They know what they are doing." A fast talking businessman quipped as he ran past the swarming Day Traders as the clamored to buy and sell their KMC stock.

The final surprise that put the market past the 1,000 mark was the news that the military was expanding. The amount of materials needed to fuel the endeavor will have the industrial sector working overtime for years to come.

"The Bull is back! Thank God for the Archon!" someone shouted as the market hit the 1,400 mark, people shouted in agreement. Many are optimistic about the Coalitions rally, and quite a few economists agree with the sentiment. The Spherian people can smile, since it is true. The Bull is Back!

With the arch-conservative situation in the Pony Republic, where the books of Ayn Rand has almost replaced the Holy Scriptures, this is no doubt another affront directed intentionally at the Pony Republic in a series of intentional offences made by the Imperial and Royal Foreign Ministry, according to this newspaper's sources.

PRESIDENT SHOT IN OSSURWALD!

Consternation and dismay greeted New Edomites upon discovery that President Touchstone was shot while visiting students intending to march in protest of economic developments in Ossurwald.

“The President just want to hear the ordinary view of the person in the streets,” reported a distressed Rowena Black, the President’s Personal Assistant. “We’re all full of consternation and dismay.”

Council Police officials commented about their concerns about international terrorism. “No disrespect intended towards the current government,” said an official who preferred to be unnamed, “But Ossurwald is a hotbed, a place of pilgrimage almost for radical groups. We hope that the government of Ossurwald will fully cooperate with our investigations.”

Vice-President Marcus Cruonis has ended a planned tour of the Allied States and will be returning to Fineberg to lead the government. President Touchstone is apparently in critical condition but is stabilized. As soon as possible he will be moved home.

Staff Sergeant John Kimpbell watches the western horizon from Hienmenia for a Spherian attack. The military has authorized the deployment of 90,000 troops to Camp Maxey in response to aggression from the godless nation.

Today the 26th Cookic Infantry Division was placed on the Hienmenian border, with two armored divisions and the 13th Hienmenian Infantry Division expected to arrive within the following weeks. That would mean that over 300,000 men would be at the border, ready to strike down the hedonists where they live. Chancellor Paustain urged the public today that the force was purely reactionary to the Spherian missile developments and buildup on the border.

As the glorious People's Government nears its six-month anniversary of liberating the people from the tyrannical, bourgeois regime of the Imperial and Royal Monarchy, we have began to see the glory that this revolution have brought to the formerly oppressed peoples of the People's Democratic Union. The most latest of these wonderful advancements is the set-up of the VRF, or Volksregierung Foren.

Set up on XIII, the VRF has seen immediate success with the public, whom following Directive Order ΣΘΔ are allowed to voice public opinions, protest, and vote freely. The VRF allows citizens to voice their opinions on the government anonymously, so that they cannot be harassed or targeted by other people and radical groups. The VRF is monitored by the newly created "Ministry of the People", whose job is to respond to each forum post and to propose the citizens' requests to the Volkskongress.

"Although it is far from perfect, this system is a good step forward in attempting to de-autocracize our government, and give the people a chance to have some input in the government" commented recently appointed Minister of the People, Tatiana Parpesca in a press conference. "Hopefully within the next few years, we can completely transition over to a free democracy".

Turns out, it'll be sooner then you think, as the first open elections are set for July.
