Sponsored Training Roleplay for Writing Project Members:
The Black Heart of White Wall
Acknowledgments
This group is dedicated to a few people in particular, who helped bring this concept to fruition. First, to my friend Cyrupe, who worked with me last year on a similar concept to this during our time as II Roleplay Mentors. Hopefully, our wishes in that program will be borne out here in The Writing Project. Second, I'd like to thank Spooty of the great region of Greater Dienstad, who put out a call for more to be done to help people grow as writers here at NationStates. I wanted to let him know that his concerns were not lodged in vain, and that there are people out there who want to help others have as much fun doing what this site is best at: writing.
There are four types of players who utilize the vast online community known as NationStates for entertainment. The first are the people who run accounts here for the sake of having a nation that they can control. They keep their nations alive from year to year, answering issues according to their own preference and whims. Then there are the Defenders and the Raiders, who have utilized this glorious medium as the world's most eclectic form of internet espionage and warfare. There are the fine folks who spend their time crafting issues and debating proposals at the World Assembly section, where everyone's favorite international organization continues churning out commendations, condemnations and proposals at a healthy clip. And then there are the writers—those players who utilize the written word to create vast dream worlds, each catered uniquely to our own creative impulses and constructs.
We roleplayers are a strange breed. We come from all corners of the world, bringing our own special blend of creative ideas, cultural heritage and imaginative designs in order to forge an interconnected world of fantasy worlds, where we carry on the business of state (or intergalactic empire) as pseudo-deities. All the while, we use the fulcrum of our national and interstellar creations to develop close contacts and camaraderie with a wonderful assortment of people, whose vibrancy and zest for writing have all brought us here to this seminal point. We have people from almost every continent in the world writing here today—people from a variety of cultural, ethnic, political, racial and religious backgrounds. Everyone, from the newest nation on the block to the oldest and most respected monoliths of our community share one thing in common, that one special gift that ties us all together: writing.
Anyone that's open and willing to work with other people on their writing is free to join. Our little cadre of roleplayers is an ensemble group, not inherently representing any one alliance, region, or nation in particular. Designed to provide an environment where people can learn to improve on their writing without fear of being insulted or mocked, this group is open to anyone that's willing to help others, and seek out help for themselves too if necessary.
● Nations who have a deficiency in their roleplaying that they want to address.
● Nations who are looking to pool their resources to help spark creativity and imagination.
● New players who want to learn how to get a handle on roleplaying.
● Young nations who have trouble grasping the baser concepts of writing.
It's simple, really: all you have to abide by is the one golden rule of the group—do not judge. Do not attack, criticize with the intent to hurt, mock, or in likewise manner cause another player to feel like they have no other recourse but to leave the game. Certainly, we want to keep to the official rules of the NationStates Forums, but the most important, most cardinal of rules is to leave harmful comments at the door. As we move forward, we will be talking about different aspects of writing, as well as sharing past roleplays for critiquing, brainstorming ideas for settings or characters, and even organizing training roleplayers for our younger players who want to get a chance to play with a level field with veteran players.
