Dear sirs,

It is with immense pleasure we are pleased to announce the selection of the MSLA-10 as the new MANPADS for the Vandaheim Defense Forces. We wish to place an initial order for 1 Million Units at a cost of $20 Billion USD. We are also curious as if it is possible to adapt the MSLA-10 technology to light anti-tank weapons (something on the order of a lightened Carl Gustav and a Disposable LAW or AT4).

Thank you,

Cal Pederson

Greetings.

The order is confirmed; we will transfer 1 million MLSA-10 missiles to you within a short timeframe.

Concerning conversion to an anti-tank missile, the specific technology used in MLSA-10 is not suited to such use. The integral warhead of MLSA missiles is specifically designed against unarmored targets, which can be severely damaged and ignited by relatively soft magnesium fragments. This specialization is what makes it so light, but the main battle tanks are fully protected against such threats.

Furthermore, it is very unlikely that a modern battle tank, such as MCA-7 or even just Wolfhound, Nakil A3, or one of other mass-market tanks, would be harmed by a light weapon like AT4. The side armor of such tanks is sufficient to withstand the AT4 even without ERA, and the top is sufficiently protected when ERA and APS are taken into account.

For a weight-efficient anti-tank weapon, we can suggest the MLSS-21-125ATS and MLSS-21-125ATK. While at about 30kg, or 34kg with the launcher, they are on the edge of man-portability, they offer a very real chance to take down a modern main battle tank from any but the frontal arc.

The utility of lighter weapons would be restricted to work against light armor. We could develop such a weapon based on the MLSA technology, but the high performance, velocity and precision, while essential against aircraft, might not be worth the additional expense and skill requirements in light anti-armor work. In effect, such weapons would be more akin to light ATGM like the Javelin, rather than RPG. If you are interested in a large order, we will consider speeding up the design work.

With best regards,
Anthony Stevens.

Good day, Mr. Stevens

It is agreed that a light man-portable anti-tank weapon system capable of engaging modern NS Main Battle Tanks from any aspect is beyond current technology, and we will indeed consider the MLS-21-125, and would be grateful if you could provide some samples for testing (OOC: I am digesting the MLS design brief, slowly, it appears to be a fantastic system that I will be integrating extensively in the future. As an aside, I think the MLS-21-160 penetration is off at 700mm, unless this is a top attack munition ). We do indeed desire a weapon system with light armor and anti-structure capabilities, and we would be willing to procure a reasonably large minimum starting order to initiate such work. If you are willing to pursue this further, we will draft a formal request with design guidelines as dictated by your needs. Once again, it is always an honor and privilege working with the bright minds at ALC.

Greetings.

Yes, we can provide you with 10 samples of MLSS-21-125ATK and 10 of MLSS-21-125ATS, if you need them for testing.

There are no specific requirements as to the request form, but we would like to know what are the vehicles you would like the missile to be used against, and what weight limitations you would prefer to fit the system into.

With best regards,
Anthony Stevens.

OOC: I've rechecked the 160ATK penetration, it's a bit of a difficult case as its impact speed is about 1,600m/s, well into hypervelocity, but it's not a LRP. Solid plate mechanics give a 680mm perforation and Lanz-Odermatt 1,050mm, if the missile is simplified as the cap plus mass. Neither of these is actually applicable, since it's too short to qualify for LRP formulas, but since the idea is conventional penetration, I use a figure very close to the former.
It's actually the 125ATK that was off, I just mistyped it with this table markings. Keep in mind they don't have a shaped charge warhead, which is what provides most of the penetration in ATGM. They are, however, far less affected by APS and ERA.
Anyway I should renew both towards a shorter-range, more penetration-focused, heavier design, or probably introduce a smaller diameter model.

Both are intended as top attack, to crush through the roof with sheer mass and velocity. They're mostly helicopter-launched, or fired 'mortar-style', over the horizon with external initial guidance.
There is a line most people say they will never cross. It is usually something they have done long ago when they thought no one was watching.

Mr. Stevens,

We thank you for the samples you have shipped and will begin testing immediately. Given that optimal trajector is obtained from a high angle launch, we are testing these in both a containerized vertical launch system and heliborne firing platforms.

As to the proposed missile system:

Background

Currently the Vandaheimian Army employs the M72A8 LAW Rocket the fireteam level and the Matador Rocket Launcher at the Platoon Level with the more pricey and specialized (and unfortunately largely ineffectual in NS) Javelin Missile system being retained that the company level to be issued in the event of a major armor threat. It is the major drive of the Vandaheimian Army to lighten the soldier's load whenever possible while maintaining or enhancing soldier lethality. It is Vandaheim's philosophy that underburdened soldiers performed better than overburdened ones. Vandaheim has spent considerable time and research in the areas of ballistic protection and soldier field equipment to bring a soldier's load down to a design goal of 20kg rather than the 27-60kg of equipment many modern soldiers are carrying. This we feel, makes our soldiers more agile, mobile, and flexible, able to react quicker and with greater initiative than modern heavy infantry. Vandaheim seeks to fight on the inside curve of Boyd's OODA loop to defeat its enemies. As such, we are always looking for lighter weapons that offer comparable if not superior capability such as the MLS-10.

Design Synopsis:

The Vandaheim Army is looking for new lighter weight replacement missile for the javelin, matador, and M72 systems with equal or greater capability. The missile should be able to engage the following:

Light Vehicle (HMMV, FMTV): All aspect
Light Armored Vehicle (M119 HMMV, M113 APC): All Aspect
Medium Armored Vehicle (BMP series, M2 Bradley): Side, rear, and/or top engagement
Heavy Armor Vehicles (Namer, NS HAPC, MBTs): Mobility and Sensor kills.
Fortified Positions
Timber Bunkers
Double Brick Walls

Range: The weapon is intended to by a short range system, the maximum effective range is 300-500m.

Hopefully, these guidelines will give you some direction, please feel free to ask any additional questions. (OOC: I'm leaving it rather vague to see what you can come up with, I was rather impressed by the Stinger shrinkage, so I am afraid if I define it too much I might limit you. )

Thank you,

Cal Pederson

Mr. Stevens,

We have been evaluating the MLS-21-125 samples you have provided, and we are pleased so far with our results. We would inquire whether the MLS-21-125 is suitable for VLS launch, what a reasonable VLS cell size would be for a pallet sized cell (45in x 45 in), and what munition/seeker mix you would suggest for said cell if it was to be launched at an armored formation in a swarm mode.

Regards,

Cal Pederson

OOC: I am thinking of using the MLS-21-125 as a mini-NLOS-LS system to attack armor formations. And perhaps the larger 160 or 200's as a full NS replacement, though I don't know if the MLS can duplicate the attack loitering capabilities.

Greetings.

In response to your inquiry, yes, all MLSS-21 series missiles are primarily designed for vertical launch. The exact cell size will depend on the vehicle it is to be mounted in.
In a ground combat vehicle where there are requirements of resilience and blast protection, but frequent maintenance by removal is feasible, each launch cell would be about 200x200mm in size including the subframe, so a 45"x45" module could reasonably fit up to 25 missiles.

Such density, however, is only maintainable as long as the access to the module is not blocked by anything. On a larger scale, the module would more likely be 4x5, i.e. 20 missiles, with a central tunnel for communications.
Higher density is possible in a larger vehicle provided with a maintenance corridor with modules on either side, however, most ground vehicles are too small for such an arrangement with 45" cells. Alternately, opening sides (generally limited to truck-type chassis) could allow for high density without a maintenance corridor.

We are currently working together with Nineveh International Land Systems to develop specialized highly protected and mobile launch systems for MLSS-21 missiles.

In anti-armor use, the standard seeker heads are either a trichromatic IR seeker or a combination of a monochromatic IR seeker and an emissions homing device. Both are only capable of attacking vehicles that are online and running their engine or APU, or, in the second case, transmitting on radio frequencies.
If external guidance is possible, the missile can be equipped with a pre-programmed electronic inertial navigation system (however, accuracy is only maintained at short range) or a laser seeker. Two guidance modules of this size can be installed, allowing for combinations like IR+INS, IR+laser, laser+INS, et cetera.

With best regards,
Anthony Stevens.

OOC: That's right, it actually comes from GNAVT... Sometime ago, it made a lot of difference, as GNAVT was at war with ALC. But after the [in]famous Quasidan Treaty, both parties have made concessions and are now in a truce, rebuilding their power.
Nonetheless, the request would be responded to by another company, HLE, a mediator.

Due to dire circumstances, the following is requested:

Development and Production Rights of AMS-4 G-suits, AHG pilot helmets, as well as the L4 Ejection Seat.

Cost: 90 Billion

All appropriate funds will be split into three separate sums, to be paid off at a later date. With interest.

To HLE,

As part of our ongoing modernisation programme, L3's corporate security division is in a quite serious need for updated equipment, including replacements for the ACES-II and Zvezda K-36 ejection seats and the FIM-92 Stinger MANPADS. We're also in need of several Mudskipper vessels to replace out aging Skjold and similar classes of patrol boats and to provide support to our naval infantry units. Below is the standard order form:

ItemQuantityPrice
Mudskipper class Patrol Boat ("loaded")52$2,080,000,000
Symmetriad Layartes IVDPR$90,000,000,000
MLSA-10 Lightweight MANPADS1,200,000$24,000,000,000
Total Price:$116,080,000,000 ($116.08 Billion USDs)

If possible, we would like to acquire the DPR for the MLSA-10 and Mudkip.

Greetings.

Your order has been confirmed. 52 Mudskippers will be sent to you, and 1,200,000 MLSA-10 missiles shipped.

The domestic production rights and required technologies for MLSA-10 are available at the price of $50 billion. For the Mudskipper hydroplane, there is no predetermined cost, but we could reasonably offer the DPR for $150 billion.

With best regards,

OOC: Hogusho - they are not airplanes, but hydroplanes. It's a special kind of boat, which can essentially skate on water at very high speeds. The modules are for the armament, typically MLSS-21 and MLSA-1X launchers, a radar, and other parts.
There is a line most people say they will never cross. It is usually something they have done long ago when they thought no one was watching.

Good day to you. We have received your order and have made the required arrangements. Two Mudskipper Class Hydroplanes, without modules, ready to be configured for transportation, civic, law enforcement or military duties, are currently enroute to your nation.

With best wishes,
Dennis Vermont,
Hub Limited Exports

The Commonwealth of Mossat sorely requires bolstering of our naval forces. We would like to purchase 400 Musdkipper Hydropanes, equipped with the Symmetriad power plant and loaded. The total cost of this order should come up to 20,000,000,000.
