How to create a Parliament diagram!

Postby ArghNeedAName » Sun Apr 15, 2012 7:33 am

A while ago there was a thread for making diagrams like this to show the composition of your legislative assembly:

Image
Image

These diagrams (Slashme Diagrams) originate from Wikipedia and the script for creating them was programmed by a user called Slashme. Interested in making one yourself?

  1. Go to this website
  2. In the text box, type in the code as instructed:
    - Party name
    - Comma
    - Number of seats the party has
    - Comma
    - The hexidecimal code to show the colour you want the party to be (must have a # in front of it)
    - Semi-colon (except at the end)
    - Repeat for every other party

For example, the diagram above was created by entering this:

    Socialist Party, 34, #660066; Labour Party, 171, #FF0000; Green Party, 69, #00FF00; Christian Democratic Party, 80, #FF9900; Reformist Party, 142, #0000FF; Free Republic Party, 40, #FFFF00; PDV, 64, #999999

Do not enter any speech marks as this messes it up!

Below is a (rather simplified) chart to show the hexidecimal codes for various colours:

    Image
  3. Click Send, then click to load the SVG code, and load of code should appear. Copy it.
  4. Open up Notepad (or some other simple text editor) and paste in the SVG code.
  5. Save the code. In the Save dialogue box, change the "Save as Type" to All Files, not Text Document. Name it parliament.svg.
  6. Now go onto this website or any other that converts SVG images to PNG format.
  7. Click Browse and select the SVG file you have just saved. Select to convert it to PNG.
  8. Click Submit and then save the file you produce (there's an option to preview it as well).
  9. To allow it to be viewed on NationStates, upload it to an image hosting website.

Any problems? Post here. Also, you're welcome to post your created diagrams on this thread!

Ah good on you! I'm always having people ask me how it's done, and it's not an easy process to explain.

Nice one!

Nice job on explaining. I did that, saved it as a PNG file directly (after some tweaks), then uploaded it to NSWiki (after adding the parties). Yeah, I wanted to do one, for my puppet (Elbania). The difference, was that the number on mine was Times New Roman Bold, compared to (I think) Tahoma font. Anyways, other than the font difference, it was essentially the same.

Hey, this is pretty cool. Unfortunately it's not much good for me right now because my legislature has just 40 members! However, one of the parties would like to increase that, so if they do then I might want something like that.
