Tropes associated with Tergnitz

A Father To His Men - An ideal that is promoted in the Imperial Military Academy to young junior officers.
    • Can also be attributed to the Emperor who considers the entire populace to be his 'children.'
Apathetic Citizens - The vast majority of the Dominion's citizens are this most of the time, with the percentage increasing the further down the socio-economic ladder you go. Though they can be roused into a patriotic fever during times of national emergency or war, they are typically content with the Bread And Circuses the Imperial Government provides.
Ate His Gun - A common method of suicide in the Dominion by both the downtrodden members of society and governmental officials who have failed in a spectacular way.

Artificial Limbs - While in the relatively early stages of development compared to a PMT world, the Imperial Government still provides them to soldiers who have lost a limb in the line of duty.
    • Furthermore, wealthy individuals in Dominion society can afford to purchase them if they need, or are so inclined to.
Attack Drone - Are slowly replacing manned planes in the Imperial Air Force; and are also being more widely utilzied by the Imperial Army.

Author Appeal - Pretty self explanatory, this nation is the result of a combination of my political, religious and cultural beliefs; if taken to a sometimes ridiculous extreme (as befits NS).

Badass Preacher - Several members of the United Church Militant could fall under this category.
    • Furthermore, Sergeants in the Grand Imperial Army double as battlefield chaplains.
Big Fancy House - The Imperial Family and various wealthy individuals own these.

Binding Ancient Treaty - The 'Vow of Honour' is the modern version of a bilateral defence and trade agreement which has existed between Tergnitz and the Absolute Royal Federation of Imeriata for centuries.

Black Market Produce - The economically unequal and municipally segregated nature of the Dominion's largest Megalopolises, as well as Tergnitz's large population result in this being the reality for certain segments of Dominion society, generally those belonging to the nation's Underclass.

Blood Sport - Gladiatorial games. The option to participate is given to all prisoners with sentences over twenty years. Neither freedom nor a reduction in the individual's sentence can be gained but victory in the arena grants the prisoners many material benefits in prison.

Blue Blood - Subverted, there is a noble aristocracy with landed titles. Yet they hold no real power as this is mostly a ceremonial status.
    • Played straight with the Imperial Family, which is the only exception to this rule.
Bread And Circuses - The government's veneer of democratic elections, strong focus on a hardline religion, societal consumerism, daily gladiatorial games in major towns and the idea promoted by the government that the 'the enemy within is less evil than the enemy without' are all designed to distract the nation's poor underclass.

Break Out The Museum Piece - All old military equipment is stored in a series of bunkers and warehouses inside the nation’s central mountain range just in case.

Christianity Is Catholic - Subverted, the Dominion has its own sect of Christianity.

Church Militant - The Church, actually called the 'United Church Militant' is the fourth branch of the Imperial Government and has its own military wing; The Sacred Order of the Winged Cross.

Cool Sword - Knights of the Sacred Order of the Winged Cross are given one of these during the ceremony which commemorates their passage from Knight-Recruit to the position of full Knight of the Order.
    • Some of the personal swords of Officers in the Grand Imperial Army count as this.
Corrupt Corporate Executive - Tergnitz is full of them. Some are corrupt in the traditional sense in that they are just greedy and immoral; others however are simply just evil people.

Cultured Warrior - In line with the fact that the Dominion views itself as the holy guiding light of civilization in a dark, barbarous world; the Dominion feels that it is it’s duty to bring civilization to the foreign, heathen masses.

Death From Above - The Imperial Air Force, which some would say is obsessed with the concept of close-air-support and strategic bombing.

Determined Homesteader - The dominant though amongst the Tergnitzian general public for nearly two centuries.
    • Elements of which still exist to this day, particularly in the nation's rural east.
Disproportionate Retribution - Very common in both domestic and foreign policy.

Elaborate Underground Base - A huge tunnel complex runs through the Dominion’s central mountain range. Constructed started in 1942 and continues to this day, yet the true purpose of the facility has shifted so many times that it is unlikely that anyone actually knows the true purpose or extent of the facility. Every day, kilometres of new tunnels are dug while at the same time, lost tunnels are found and repaired.

Elite Army - The Imperial Praetorian Guard, both the Ground and Air detachments, who are all fifteen to twenty year veterans of a branch of the armed services.

Enemy Mine - A tactic utilized by the Imperial Foreign Ministry and Diplomatic Corps extensively.
    • The Imperial Government's inter-factional fighting is also demonstrative of this.
Epiphanic Prison - The Dominion’s worst of the worst offenders are subject to this punishment. Comprising primarily of traitors who have caused, either directly or indirectly, the deaths of tens of thousands of Tergnitzian citizens, or more. These men are painstakingly broken bit by bit, emotionally, physically and mentally during their visits to the Sarcophagus. When this process is complete, they spend the rest of their days locked in a dark hole, lost in the depths of their own mind.
"A prison doesn't need to have four walls, a ceiling, and a floor. Why would you need those if the prisoner doesn't want to or know how to leave? After all, if you no longer have anything to live for, your current location loses all relevance.".
Even Evil Has Standards - The Dominion may be a dramatically uneven society in terms of socio-economic status. Despite this however, slavery is not on in the Dominion.

Fantastic Racism - Institutionalized against non-humans (mutants, aliens, etc).

Feuding Families - The Great Noble Houses in Tergnitz's history count as these.
    • All of which were either utterly dismantled or seriously pruned in the Great Purge, leaving only one Great House standing - The Imperial House.
Full Circle Revolution - The First Tergnitzian Civil War, a mildly oppressive merchant-Church oligarchy was replaced with an oppressive autocratic government under the Emperor.
    • A fact which is of course not stated by Tergnitz's history textbooks.
o However, the Imperial Government was forced to be oppressively autocratic during this period to wipe out the remainder of the rebels and establish a firm government. After a decade or so, a spate of freedoms were re-introduced into the new nation.
o It is also worth noting that the Church had become just as, or even more oppressively autocratic as the Civil War had progressed. A fact which ultimately ended with one Arch-Bishop crowning himself Pontiff before massacring his opponents within the clergy.
Government Conspiracy - A common theme in my RP’s due to the vast factional in-fighting within the Imperial Government.
    • See the Tergnitzian Deep State.
Government Information Adverts – This role is usually fulfilled by the Tergnitz Global News Agency

Greed - At the end of the day for most citizens, money is everything.

Hacker Cave - A common setting in RPs due to the Dominion's strong focus on computing technology, both in the Government, Intelligence, Private and Civilian sectors of life.

Home Guard - The Dominion Domestic Defence Force. A part-time military force, 140 million strong.

Humans Are Flawed - Generally the citizens of the Dominion, from the highest places of power to the urban slums, are just normal people trying to get by. The amount of ambition, level of education and political stance are all different; yet each is only human, and therefore flawed in some way, shape, or form.

Humans Are Special - However it are these very flaws, when used in combination with the dogged tenacity of our species and our unlimited creativity; which mark us out as superior.
    • The official view put forward by the Imperial Government.
Last Stand - Extremely common in the history of the Dominion, past and present.
Lawful Good - What the Dominions views itself as.

Mega Corp - The hyper-capitalist nature of the Dominion has given rise to a number of these.

MIB - Members of the Internal Security Directorate, Imperial Reconnaissance Agency and several other agencies.

Military Mashup Machine - The Kingmaker Mk. 1, an amazingly powerful yet utterly impracticable, mobile city-siege platform.

Moral Myopia - A popular position held by the Imperial Government where if one hundred non-citizens need to be killed in exchange for one saving one Dominion life, it is worth it.

Nepotism - Both invoked and subverted. It changes in degree from Emperor to Emperor, but on average members of the Imperial Family have to put in several years of actual hard work before being placed in a fairly cushy position.

Nightmarish Factory - A very common sight in the Dominion's history, especially during the 18th and 19th Centuries; along with Company Towns.
    • Increasing government regulation, as well as a raft of new innovations and products in the mid-to-late 19th Century saw a vast decline in this trope; however some such factories do exist within Tergnitz, if few in number.
Non-Idle Rich - Members of Tergnitz's upper class are expected to gain a commission in the Dominion's active or reserve military sometime during their life.
    • Also true of members of the Imperial Family, who have to go through basic training with the rest of the grunts and spend a four years in the active military before they can move on to train to become an officer.
Nuclear Option - Both played straight and averted in the Dominion's history. Emperors have given their approval for the use of tactical nuclear weapons on several occasions, but they have also shot down several overly-ambitious generals who wished to use the weapons in a strategic manner.
    • The Dominion has both land and sea-based strategic nuclear weapons.
Patriotic Fervor - Most of the Dominion's citizens have a quiet, yet dignified sense of patriotism which explodes into a bonanza of flag-waving and anthem-singing on national holidays or during war.

Peace Through Superior Firepower - Linked to There Is No Kill Like Overkill as well as the Air Force's love of strategic bombing.

Pimped Out Dress - The current fashion within the Dominion is known as 'Neo-Renaissance' clothing which focuses less on corporate brands and more on ostentatious clothing as a means of demonstrating the wealth and/or social status of the wearer.
    • This naturally includes a ridiculous number of corset users. Mainly among women, but also utilized by some effeminate men.
Playing With Syringes - The key reason behind the establishment of the Dominion Civil Defence Agency’s Counter-Infection teams. There is nothing else to say on this topic...

Pretentious Latin Motto - As is befitting of a state of the Dominion's status.

Private Military Contractors - Commonly utilized by non-military government agencies for official and 'off-the-books' work.
    • See Voss Defence Inc.
Privately Owned Society - Mostly, besides the justice system.

Propaganda Machine - A key element in the Imperial Government wide range of efforts to keep Tergnitz's poor underclass docile and loyal to the monarchy.

Right Hand Versus Left Hand - The factionalism within Tergnitz's political parties, government agencies. Surprisingly absent in the nation's military which is unified in opposition against other government agencies and in devotion to the Emperor and the survival of the Dominion.

Romanticism Versus Enlightenment - Tergnitz as a nation tends towards the Enlightenment slide of the scale; yet in a cycnical sense. A majority of the nation's current elites, as well as noted academics throughout history have been idealistic about the big picture (society and the advancement of technology) because they're cynical about the small one (the individual). Due to this beleif, they have developed institutions that guide that cynicism to the public benefit.

Rousing Speech - Used many times by a range of characters in RP's.

Royals Who Actually Do Something - The Emperor is the Dominion's Head of State and leads the nation’s Executive Branch and National Church with a great deal of authority.

Screw The Rules I Have Money - Both subverted and played straight. Tergnitz is generally considered to be a nation of self-centred, or some would say greedy people. Thus, it would be safe to assume that the wealthy do go against the law to increase their own fortunes or save their hides. However, the legal punishments for corruption, especially in government employees are incredibly harsh, which removes some of the incentive for going against Imperial Law.

Skyscraper City - A description that would fit the majority of the Dominion's Megalopolises.

Smoking Is Cool - Invoked sometimes, subverted in others. It depends on the situation and the character.

Spy Satellites - Referred to numerous times in RP's.

Spy Ships - Don’t exist...

State Sec - The Imperial Internal Security Directorate

Superior Species - Humanity; pure, unaltered Humanity.

Tears Of Blood - The Dominion's third Emperor, Icarus Lycan Vera the Pious, was rumoured to have had three tears of blood run down his cheek during his state funeral in 1890 A.D.
    • These rumours remain unconfirmed by both the Imperial Government and the House of Vera.
The Emperor - Benevolent Emperors for several hundred years with the occasional Evil Overlord archetype thrown in.

The Empire - The Dominion, the Lightbearer of Civilization, Defender of Faith, Guardian of Law and Order and Legitimate Regent of Humanity aims to establish a one world order to ensure Human dominance and stability around the world.

The Patriarch - His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor to the entire nation.

Transhuman - An 'end-goal' associated with the state religion of Varist Christianity. The Church states that the true faithful, upon their death, do not move into specific 'afterlife' per say; rather these individuals are transformed into 'Anglized' versions of their mortal selves to assist God in his attempt to return Jesus from Hell.
    • Certain individuals and groups however dispense with the Transhumanist creed preached by the Church and are instead focused on utilizing science, mainly cybernetics, to surpass the limitations of their mortal bodies.
The Revolution Will Not Be Civilized - The Tergnitzian Civil War, which saw some horrible atrocities committed on both sides in either the name of freedom or security.

The Spartan Way- Is undertaken by the Dominion's SpecOps soldiers, the ‘Scorpion’ Covert Operations Group in addition to initiates into the Sacred Order of the Winged Cross.

The War Room - The Palace Situation Room, referenced many times in my RP's.

Thirty Gambit Pileup– The intelligence community...internal security apparatus...let’s just say most of the Imperial Government is this.

Wall of Weapons - Basically every citizen in the Dominion has at least one gun due to the Dominion's market-friendly gun laws, the strong nationalistic sentiment among the general populace and the relatively high crime rate.

Warrior Monk - Sergeant-Chaplains in the Grand Imperial Army as well as the entire military wing of the United Church Militant count as this.

War Is Glorious - As described in the Dominion's history books and by the Imperial Government.
We ARE Struggling Together - One of the key reasons why the Imperial Government and Monarchy have not fallen since the inception of the Dominion. The factions which oppose the Government are more concerned fighting underground wars with each other regarding the principle of ideological purity rather than toppling the Imperial Government. A status quo that the Imperial Government secretly encourages through a range of means.
    • Such as the insertion of intelligence agents into separatist cells who have 'hardline' views and convince these groups to fight rather than work with each other.
Wetware CPU - While nothing large-scale has been produced in this area, several very important and powerful parties are interested in its future potential.

Written By The Winners - ‘Golden Eagle Ascendant: A Comprehensive History of the Righteous Imperial Dominion of Tergnitz’ written by Baron Octavus Xander Kellis (D.A), is one of the most renown complete histories of the Dominion to be produced in the modern era. Private high schools throughout Tergnitz use Baron Kellis’s work in their history courses.
    • Which is due to the fact that the three novels are written to glorify the Veran Imperial Line and provide a fairly positive view on the Imperial Government.
o That is not to say however, that the low points in the Dominion's history are left out, they are simply played down in importance or outweighed by a range of positives bestowed by the Emperor and His Government on the average citizenry.
Wrong Side Of The Tracks - Decades of hyper-capitalism has resulted in a large wealth divide between the Dominion’s wealthy upper class and urban poor underclass. Several of the Dominion’s largest cities have a strata-based structure, with the underclass occupying the cities foundations while the wealthy live either in towering sky-scrapers on in country estates.
    • This does not apply to the same degree outside major cities.
You Have Outlived Your Usefulness - While not that common, this tactic is sometimes used in the corporate sphere, the private military sector in particular.

Question and Answer Section:

Q: Why are all of your nation's statistics from a nation of roughly 3 billion when your actual population is x?

A: In an effort to promote understanding about my nation and to help create a stable base for RP-ing purposes, I have decided to cap my nation's population at 3,000,326,155 billion.

Q: You have some awesome images in this factbook, would I possibly be able to use 'y' image for some reason?

A: Basically, no. The images within this factbook I have; made for myself, solicited a third party to make them for me or sourced them from the depths of the internet. On the surface I would deny any request to use my images, but its more of a case-by-case basis.

Q: I really like the layout/ formatting of your factbook, would I be able to use the same style in my own?

A: Generally yes, as long as you run it by me first and make an effort to change the style a bit to differentiate it from my own. The only exception to this is the factbook OP, which was designed by someone else. So if you would like to use that, I'd recommend sending a TG to Solm, not me.

*Legal Disclaimer: All of the images in this Factbook belong to their relevant owners and I credit them for their work on them. Also, the awesome layout in the OP belongs to Solm.

What is the (public and private) opinion of the Tergnitz Imperial Government, of the Yohannesian Commonwealth (and that of the Yohannesian Government)?

That's fine Terg. :p

In between that, I got yet another question for you. The latest Tergnitzian Imperial census proclaimed the existence of approximately 1.8% Yohannesian citizens which made up the total population of Tergnitz living within the Imperial Dominion.

What is the generalised, common views of the average Tergnitzian about these Yohannesians..? Furthermore, are they of low socio-economic conditions (labour immigrants, etc.) or that of upper-middle socio-economic conditions (business expatriates, diplomatic officers, etc.)?

Yohannes wrote:What is the (public and private) opinion of the Tergnitz Imperial Government, of the Yohannesian Commonwealth (and that of the Yohannesian Government)?

Publicly: The Imperial Government of the Righteous Imperial Dominion of Tergnitz, representing the Image, Power and Person of His Imperial Majesty, Augustus Tiberian Vera I; views the Yohannesian Government and the Greater Yohannesian Commonwealth as a close friend and ally on the international stage. It is the Imperial Government's completely recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Greater Yohannesian Commonwealth; and has the opinion that a deep bond of brotherhood and friendship exists between our two nations, one which is codified in our long-standing joint membership in the League of Imperial Nations. Outside the sphere of the League, the Imperial Government respects the Commonwealth's place in the world and verbally supports her foreign policy actions.

Privately: The Imperial Government's opinion on the Yohannesian Commonwealth is derived completely from His Imperial Majesty. The Emperor, which acknowledging the fairly close nature of our two nations political systems, and respecting our joint time together in the League; nevertheless views the constituent nations of the Yohannesian Commonwealth and Her Government as a potential threat to the Dominion.

The Emperor in particular notes the Commonwealth's strong position in the international economy, her naval power and her ability to draw upon the large combined militaries of her constituent nations; as all contributing to the potential threat posed to the Dominion. While not concerned about any imminent threat of invasion, the Emperor is wary of the Commonwealth's economic posture on the world stage and in particular within the region of Ellorea. At the same time however, the Emperor is aware of the large benefits that trade and friendship with the Commonwealth can and does bring to the Dominion; chiefly in the economic sphere.

Personally, Emperor Augustus views the people of the Yohannesian Commonwealth as religious heathens and slightly backward colonials; as befitting a citizen of the Dominion. However he is privately a great admirer of the government-sanctioned policy of racial segregation that operates within the Yohannesian Home Islands; and has considered personally traveling to the islands for quite some time.

You are correct; as of the last Imperial Census (2010), 1.8% of the total population of Tergnitz, or approximately 15,812,119 individuals, currently reside within the Righteous Imperial Dominion of Tergnitz. However, it should be noted that these numbers reflect the fact that during the last census, respondents voluntarily provided the Imperial Government with this information, as it was not required. Thus, the Government has no way of verifying that these numbers are completely accurate; the true number of Yohannesian citizens currently residing within the Dominion could be a higher or lower figure.

Of the Yohannesian citizens currently residing within the Dominion who responded to the last census; a major where individuals on limited-time vacation or business visas (53.9%), followed by those on student visas (26.7%), permanent residents (14.1%), individuals with joint-citizenship (3.2%) and temporary refugee visas (2.1%). Aside from those Yohannesian citizens with temporary refugee visas (TRVs), the majority of the Yohannesian citizens currently residing within the Dominion could be described as residing in the 'middle-class'; typically in non-corporate professional roles, such as self-employed trade or businessmen. The divide between Yohannesian citizens employed in the private sphere as opposed to those directly and indirectly working for the Yohannesian government could be summarized in the ratio of 80 : 20 respectively.

Due to the economic place the majority of Yohannesian citizens currently residing within the Dominion hold; they are generally viewed either favorably or with indifference by the majority of Tergnitz's native population in a social or political context.
