Android\IPhone NS App?

Postby Konilid » Sun Mar 25, 2012 8:06 pm

I am typing this from my Android. I was thinking, what if there was an app for NS on here? It would make things easier. What do you think?

Our aim is to make the mobile site phone-friendly, so if you think something about it in particular should be easier, please post your thoughts.

I really like the mobile site but on my high resolution phone (Samsung Galaxy Nexus, 1280x720 resolution) a lot of the clickable elements are quite small. Given the choice I'd prefer larger square icons instead of or in addition to the short but wide textual hyperlinks; things generally thumbprint-shaped.

Otherwise I find the mobile site pretty well perfect. Easy to navigate with all the features of the full game.

For NS forums use - use tapatalk, it's great.

A combination of the mobile site + tapatalk works wonderfully for me.

A thought on the above suggestion - may clutter things for us with lower resolution/smaller screen. As it is, things like the menu can be a faff with missing the links - easy way round it is to zoom in quickly, my phone at least reverts you to normal zoom when you open a new page.

Andacantra's comment about lower resolution screens is absolutely valid and my previous recommendation overlooks those users. A happy medium might be to have relatively proportionate font\button sizes rather than fixed icons. I don't know whether you can capture screen resolution and dynamically fit items based on screen capacity but that would sure make those narrow textual hyperlinks easier to click for me.

I use an iPad, many times for NS, right now i am using a Macbook Air, I also use the regular sit on my iPad, because i do not see the point of the mobile site.

For the mobile site to be truly mobile, I believe that you should be able to upload photos via a mobile device to make your own flag, etc. Without this, i find the mobile site, completely, and utterly...

Useless...

Apple doesn't let mobile devices upload files.

Well, in the apps they do, and I've encountered some websites were you can do that as well.

Wow, that sounds... interesting. Perhaps the issue answering part combined with seeing nice stats about your country(making it a seperate game in that sense perhaps?)... Hmm, too bad I'm not app savvy :(

No, there are no websites that let you upload files on Iphone. Apps are a different story, you can browse for pictures.

I have an idea, a couple of us can get together, and design this app together! We can have suggestions from anybody!

Most Android phones don't support SVG graphics. I think the newer ones do, though.

This thread highlights one of the issues with mobile devices: there are lots of them, with all different capabilities. HTML is reasonably unifying, since every phone manufacturer tries to equip them with a passable browser, but once you get into apps, that workload passes to the developer, who is supposed to come to grips with their idiosyncrasies. It's just not worthwhile to spend the little development time we have creating an app that will only work for a very small portion of our players. Plus there are fees involved, and administration...

So this is why we say we'll support an app that someone else builds, but we won't be building one ourselves.

I hope someone takes the challenge on this. Lately i can only use mobile, and I nearly lost my nation, because I forgot to connect, since the mobile browser has horrible bookmarks managing, so I don't see NS on the list and forget to connect. :(

I love the mobile site, I use it all the time! It's really well done, but the only gripe I have with it is that there's no mobile version on the forums. Everything else is great though!
