School shooting

Postby Ravineworld » Mon Feb 27, 2012 9:42 am

5 kids just got shot in Ohio. I hope everybody is OK and that nobody dies. I am praying for them.
What does everybody else think of this?
I am shocked and I don't know what to say.

How did the weapon get past all those checkpoints?

I always had to leave my pens and combs at the office before they would let me through the second set of doors, and I WORKED there.

Guns aren't allowed in schools... all the signs leading up to the school state that. "Gun Free Campus" and things like that.

Changing that will solve the problem. Train the principals, teachers, and select staff on the use of firearms and then require them to be armed while on campus. This will act as a serious deterrent against this type of behavior. It's no accident that shooting rampages are rare (not non-existent, but rare) at pawn shops, shooting ranges, police stations, and military bases. These things happen at schools and shopping malls where the law abiding populace is prevented from protecting themselves.

What I find amusing, is you'd think if he went in the middle of the cafeteria while they were all together he would've scored more kills than just five woundings. Sign of a bad marksmen thar.

I mean, you'd think they would be trying to kill as many as they can but its a bit amusing that all he made was five. And those were just wounds not outright kills.

Some 8 or 9 year old up in Washington was shot in school because a 9-year old brought a gun to school, and it accidentally fired off, hitting the 8 or 9-year old girl. I tried to find the link, but Icouldn't.

I agree.
9/11 could have been totally stopped had the pilot been armed. That is a fact. A 50 dollar pistol could have done what trillions in the middle east failed to do so far. That's right, 50 bucks could have prevented the worst terrorist act in US history

Perhaps he couldn't bring himself to shoot to kill. Maybe he got there and on some subconscious level forced himself to only wound his classmates?

Also, how the hell is it amusing?

THIS is why we need mandatory gun safety courses in schools. They have driver's ed, so why not have shooter's ed?

Because if you show a kid a gun, they will pick it up and start shooting everyone around them on compulsion. It's a proven fact, 1 out of 1 person agreed with me in a survey.

That's horrible :( my wishes of quick recovery to all the wounded, and all my sympathy to their relatives.

But let's face reality : we won't prevent people from getting insane. With proper councelling, free healthcare, ... we can hope to help a few before it's too late, but we'll never prevent all madness, at least, not until we do massive breakthrough in understanding the human brain.

But there are things we can do, to ensure a mad person can hardly do lots of damage. And that includes a total ban on all firearms. There is no reason to own and wield one. Their only utility is to kill, easily, quickly and massively. They just should be banned - owned only by the military and special teams of police, very strictly controlled and regulated, and those allowed to carry them forced to pass frequent psychological tests.

There was no doubt a complex thought processes going through his mind when he's decided to do what he did. If he didn't kill them its not because he couldn't shoot, its because he did not want to kill them. His point was to hurt them, not kill them.

That would help too.
Teaching and educating people on guns, regardless of whether they are going to buy them or not, could greatly improve safety, while also allowing for people to understand that when used correctly, guns are important, life saving tools. When used incorrectly, they are violent tools that hurt and kill.

Because a car has a legitimate use - its purpose is to move from a point to another. Being dangerous is just a side-effect, not what they are designed to do. Guns have no legitimate use, the only thing they can do is to kill.

And anyway, I do think "driver licenses" are obsoleted, nowadays, there would be much less accidents with only fully automatized cars and no human drivers - but that's another issue.

a "Shooters Ed" most likely wouldn't have made a difference. Driver's Ed is meant to prevent accidents and thoughtless, reckless driving. Shooting up a school is totally different. Its a conscious decision he made to attack others.

The kid was likely torn up by his decision seeing as he turned himself in. Also perhaps it was a six shooter and he saved a bullet for himself but could not go through with it in the end. Pure speculation but possible.

It's also a test. When the kid grabs the gun and starts trying to kill people, and it's not loaded, they can just lock him up right there.
