DAY OF SORROW:
- TRAIYAN SILVIU DIES
- DETAILS OF THE FUNERAL TO BE ANNOUNCED

September 3rd LET 39 Last updated 22:34 Exegrad Standard Time
ImageImageImageImage

NORTHBANK CITY, ALAYENIA
Tributes from across the nation and the world are pouring in, following the passing of "The Greatest Radiatian Who Ever Lived".
Image
Traiyan Silviu has died aged 76

All across the Radiatian Federation factories have closed for the day, children have been sent home from school, shops are closed and public transport systems shut down, as the entire nation stops to mourn the death of the man who brought down communism.

At 1800 hours Xerconia Time, President Hiroshi Vodotel gave a televised address to the nation, confirming the news that Traiyan Silviu had died.

"The grief that I feel is inexpressible," Said the President. "The world is a far poorer place without this man, who was undoutedly the greatest Radiatian who ever lived. He is a man who stood up against tyranny, and who brought democracy to our great northern land for the first time in our history. Never before have so many people owed their freedom to a single man.

"The Radiatian Federation itself shall be his memorial, and our democracy shall be his legacy. Today, my fellow Radiatians, Traiyan Silviu has passed into immortality."

The President has ordered that all Radiatian flags, including those on embassies and other overseas territories, be flown at half-mast.

A state funeral, which is likely to be attended by world leaders, has been organised, while the country is to go into a week-long mourning period.

Silviu, aged 76, died peacefully in his sleep, in his mansion north of Exegrad. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease three years ago and made clear that he intended to be euthanised.

Mary Martinek, Silviu's chief carer, said that the former President "went to sleep last night and didn't wake up. He was in no pain. He simply drifted off."

Silviu is survived by two children and three grandchildren. His son Keldon Silviu is an MP for the Workers Party, while his son Traiyan Silviu Jr. is an oil company executive.

Prime Minister Soden Larssen expressed his condolences directly to Keldon Silviu in parliament, where the session was cut short following the news.

Plans for the funeral have not yet been revealed, however it is expected that Silviu's body will be moved from his home in Exegrad to a final resting place in Xerconia.

The federal government have commissioned the immediate construction of a mausoleum in federation square, and it is most likely that Silviu's body will be embalmed and placed there on public display.

RADIATIANS MOURN THE FOUNDING FATHER

All across the federation today, Radiatians young and old, rich and poor collectively mourned the man who had brought them their freedom.

The Exegrad Stock Exchange - whose very existence was a result of Traiyan Silviu's achievements - today stopped trading, and has announced it will likely remain closed for the duration of the mourning period.

In Exegrad, where the revolution that brought down communism began, the city paused for a spontaneous moment of silence, with every car in the city stopping in rememberance of Traiyan Silviu.

It remains to be seen whether every car stopping at once was a deliberate act, or merely a result of typical rush hour traffic.

Nomadic tribesmen held vigils for Silviu, whose legend is known even in the remote northern wilderness areas.

"Hob gomma dabba wah-wah." Said one tribesman, although your guess is as good as ours as to what he was saying.

Even the homeless on the streets of major cities appeared saddened by Silviu's passing - even though many cite them as being victims of the fall of communism.

"Under communism I would have had a job, a house and probably a wife," Said one hobo. "But thanks to capitalism, I have the freedom to do what I always wanted to do: Lie in the gutter drinking moonshine all day."

Lucy Gehrig, a 16 year old high school girl who did a day of work experience in Silviu's mansion before his death said that she was very sad to see him go. "He was very lonely when I met him, but also very sweet and gentle. I'll remember for who he was, not what he was."

However, in true Radiatian fashion, people tried to avoid showing their emotions publicly. Indeed, comedian Akat Wifabaag went out onto the streets of Das Engel and caused a scene crying and screaming melodramatically.

When asked if he was crying for Traiyan Silviu he feigned ignorance and said "No, I'm grieving for Gregor Imari."

Meanwhile, rumours are circulating that Soden Larssen, Hiroshi Vodotel, Skortch Takita, Draco Zerra, Keldon Silviu and Traiyan Silviu Jr. have been selected as the six pall-bearers for Silviu's state funeral.

MINING COMPANY ACCUSED OF USING SLAVERY
SUPREME COURT TO INVESTIGATE

SKYAMI, ASGARD
A mining company near Skyami, Asgard has been accused of holding immigrant workers against their will and forcing them to work in the magnesium mines as slaves.

The discovery was made last week when Asgard State Police investigated initial complaints from workers that the mine was "unsafe".

Image
Asgard State Police have accused a mining company of using immigrants as slaves

During the inspection of the mine, it was discovered that while the Radiatian workers were being paid full wages in accordance with Asgard Employment Law, the immigrant workers were barely being paid at all, and some claimed that they had their passports stolen and were being held captive.

"Some of the immigrant workers I spoke to seemed to be malnourished," Said Sergeant Matthias Kappel of the Asgard State Army. "They were begging us to help them. I saw the shacks they were living in. They were being treated like animals."

The mining company, which has been granted name suppression, was initially found guilty of keeping slaves and breach of state employment law by the Asgard High Court. However the company have decided to dispute the case at a federal level, believing that the law only extends to Radiatians and not to immigrants.

The case has made it as far as the newly formed Supreme Court, and will be the Supreme Court's first case.

A final ruling on the case is to be made tomorrow.

RADIATIAN CENSUS:
POPULATION REACHES OVER 200 MILLION

The Department of Statistics has released the results of the Radiatian Census, which shows the Federation has reached a population in excess of 200 Million.

The Radiatian Population now has a population of 202,950,000 people, a growth of 3% since the last census was taken.

This is only the second census to be taken since the collapse of communism, but shows clear signs that the Radiatian population is growing.

Image
The Department of Statistics has announced that Radiatia's population is now over 200 million

Census director Hiroshi Schroder attributes Radiatia's population growth to increased immigration as well as higher living standards. "Immigrants now make up 1% of the population. I know that doesn't sound big but that's two million people - more than the population of the State of Tathika!"

The other huge shift is in the population of the individual states, which will mean a lot of redistricting before the next parliamentary election and the possibility that more seats may be needed in parliament.

The census shows a huge shift towards the western states, where an easier climate and higher standard of living are attracting people in droves. The statistics show that Clode has replaced Radia as Radiatia's fourth largest state, now in excess of 10 million people - a growth of 3 million people.

Other western states that grew dramatically were Luntzbusch and Resterbury who grew to 4 million and 5 million respectively, having previously only had 2 million people.

The biggest decline in population was Detzertscha, although this was mainly due to Xerconia being designated "Federal Capital Territory".

Alayenia still remains Radiatia's most populous state at 40 million people, while Polaris is the least populous at 300,000.

Hyuganberg, Clode has beaten Das Engel for the award of "fastest growing city", becoming Radiatia's 8th largest metropolis, however Exegrad is still well in the lead as Radiatia's largest metropolis at 19 Million People.

Ethnicity remained roughly the same despite the surge in immigrants, with 51% of the population identifying as "Traditional Radiatians", 29% as "White Radiatians", 10% "Oriens Radiatians", 7% "Yellow Radiatians" and 3% "Other" including immigrants.

CONSERVATIVES CALL FOR "FREER FREEMARKET"
FEDERAL HEALTH SERVICE WILL BE FIRST TO GO

XERCONIA
The Shadow Minister of Finance, Soden Larssen, has called for a "freer freemarket" at today's Conservative Party conference.

The Conservative Party announced that if elected, the Federal Health Service will be "gone by lunchtime."

Image
The Shadow Finance Minister has called for the FHS to be scrapped

"The FHS is a huge drain on our taxes, on our funds, on money that should be going to the people who earned it in the first place!"

He also referred to former Don of Economica Innocento, the man who waged war on Radiatia during the Isthmus War and who orchestrated the SPIRA terrorist attacks on Exegrad, as a "genius" saying "While I do not dispute that Innocento is an evil man, when it comes to economics he is a genius. His book shows us the way forward, into the future!"

"Radiatia IS a capitalist nation now and we will do capitalism by the book!"

Innocento's controversial book "The Failings of Democracy - The Unmaking of the Modern World" was initially banned by former President Derro Vahnsehn, but later reallowed into public circulation. Innocento is still seen by many Radiatians as an evil man and a terrorist, and many on the left are calling Larssen's comments "political suicide."

Larssen also criticed the current government, calling the United Democrats "thinly-veiled socialists, who pretend to be centrists and who march around using words like "market regulation" to hide their true intentions."

Prime Minister Lena Toriah called his comments "laughable" and said that as far as she was concerned "The Conservatives have just lost themselves the next election. No Radiatian in their right mind is going to vote for these policies, and especially not the policies of a man who refers to the killer of so many Radiatians as a genius."

PIETER MAKHT DIES AGED 83
FLAGS TO FLY AT HALF-MAST

GOLDSTADT, DETZERTSCHA
Former RPSU Grand Chancellor Pieter Makht has died aged 83, after suffering a heart attack in a temple in Goldstadt, Detzertscha.

There was a moment of silence in this morning's full meeting of the Federal Politburo, as many remembered the extraordinary life of a man who was arguably responsible for Radiatia as we know it today.

President Yerkal Nathus ordered that all flags across the Radiatian Federation are to fly at half mast.

Both government and opposition were united in mourning the loss of the great man, with Prime Minister Lena Toriah calling him "The man who showed us the path to freedom" while opposition leader Bill Alyaha said he was "A Radiatian like no other."

Pieter Makht became the Grand Chancellor of the RPSU not long after the Isthmus War, and was responsible for many of the free-market reforms that saw the economy skyrocket.

He was also known overseas for being an openly gay leader, however this was never as issue in Radiatia.

Image
Pieter Makht giving a speech at the VARR conference in LET 24
Many hardcore communists opposed him, giving him the nickname "Pieter Market" however his reforms eventually paved the way for the collapse of communism.

Pieter Makht also famously converted to the religion of Aquilism, after meeting the Living Saint during a state visit to the Holy Empire of Rivenka.

He moved to the Tri-City Combine shortly before the collapse of communism, due to him being wanted for "Non-communist activities." He dropped his Radiatian Citizenship and took on Tri-City Citizenship.

He also successfully served as the Don of Comerciale in the Tri-City Combine, making him the only man on Noctur to have ever been a major leader of two different nations. In the Tri-City Combine he faced criticism this time for being "too socialist" after his attempts to introduce unemployment compensation, social welfare and free healthcare.

He was later given honourary citizenship to the Radiatian Federation and made Radiatia's Ambassador to the Tri-City Combine after his term as Don of Comerciale.

He returned to Radiatia in LET 21, where he lived on a small ranch in Detzertscha.

PRESIDENT'S SPEECH COMMEMORATES TERRORISM VICTIMS
NEW YEARS HONOURS GIVEN

President Yerkal Nathus has delivered his first State of the Federation speech, as the Federal Politburo prepares to take a 7 day recess.

The Presdient mourned the loss of nearly 2000 people, mostly children, who were killed in the terrorist attacks earlier this year perpetrated by Elduran extremist nationalist group Gjenfodt.

Image
President Yerkal Nathus spoke about the Gjenfodt terrorist attacks in this year's State of the Federation Speech

"Radiatia this year stood witness to the worst of human nature, to an act so vile that... words alone cannot summarise. Many of lost loved ones. So many parents lost their children. It was and is a tragedy and an act of evil that is simply unforgivable.

"But what we have in times like these is each other. Do not let these horrors divide us, but let them make us stronger. Let us strive for unity and tolerance. Let us be there for one another for all we have is each other."

The President also praised the constitution which was newly adopted this year after much debate, and spoke of the need to move away from corruption.

"Radiatians value efficiency. We are like a single body. But if the mind of that body is clouded, if it cannot see straight, how can we move forward or be efficient? That is why we must strive to purge ourseleves of corruption and let the fight for freedom that began when we overthrew communism continue, let that spirit never die."

New Years honours were also given, with the President making four people Exalted Citizens, although two were posthumous.

Revolutionary leader Draco Zerra, who also was Prime Minister of Alayenia during its 5 year independence was made an Exalted Citizen, as was Former Prime Minister Skortch Takita, the first elected Prime Minister of the Radiatian Federation.

The late Pieter Makht was made an Exalted Citizen posthumously, one week after his death. The President was regretful, and stated that he had been planning to make Makht an Exalted Citizen long before the news of his death broke.

Controversially, he also gave a posthumous Exalted Citizenship to the unknown revolutionary known as "Devereaux" who is known to be not from Radiatia but was a personal friend of Former President Traiyan Silviu and known to have been instrumental during the Civil War, fighting the communists.

Parliament also gave a closing statement before adjourning for its week-long recess.

The yearly Federal Budget was given, with healthcare being the number one concern - over 701 Billion Tsenyens went to the FHS.
Defence was second, followed by Social Welfare.

It appears that you use the term 'Politburo' to mean the country's legislative process, rather than an organisation found in communist countries?

Yes we do. We used to live under communism, so certain words like "politburo" and "comrade" are in use, though in Radiatia they have no communist-connotations.

The Radiatian Government would like to thank the government of ArghNeedAName, and we look forward to working with you in the future.

If you would like to set up further ties, feel free to telegram.

RADIATIAN POVERTY AN "EMERGENCY" SAY CHARITY GROUPS
CALLS FOR GOVERNMENT TO HELP END STARVATION IN THE NORTH

Charity groups are demanding that the Federal Government step in to combat poverty in Radiatia.

With recent statistics showing that 11% of Radiatians live below the poverty line, and that 14% are considered malnourished, groups are demanding the government do more.

Image
Minister of Social Welfare Hazel Maruska blames geographic isolation for the increase in poverty
"Radiatia is an economic powerhouse, and yet that wealth isn't being distributed fairly at all," Says Vesela Wegener, head of the Radiatian Food Bank. "The fact that 24% of Radiatians are obese while 14% are starving speaks volumes about the sort of nation we have let ourselves become."

While overseas-style lobby groups are not allowed in Radiatia, a loose coaltion of charities marched on Federation Square in Xerconia and each delivered a hand written letter to Social Welfare Minister Hazel Maruska.

In a statement, the Minister said she was doing "All she could" to combat poverty in Radiatia, despite the government's decision to force unemployed people into the military and cut the social welfare budget.

"The problem isn't the income divide, it's the geographic isolation. A lot of the starvation is happening to people in places like Gyanberk, Zorbakh and Kerpruss. A lot of these people have money but they simply live in an area that is either inaccessible or infertile."

Earlier this year the Ministry of Social Welfare ordered the RFA to airlift food supplies and water into an isolated community in Southern Kerpruss, which had been trapped with no electricity, roads and rail out of the village due to a violent blizzard.

MINING BOSS FOUND GUILTY OF SLAVERY
RADIATIAN CITIZENS USED AS SLAVES

SKYAMI, ASGARD
Humphrey Fleischer, the CEO of the Zoxxen Mining Corporation in Skyami, Asgard has been found guilty of seven charges of slavery.

Fleischer was found guilty after it was revealed that seven of the 24 men he had been holding captive as slaves were actually Radiatian Citizens. The case is also the first major case that has involved the Federal Supreme Court.

Image
Zoxxen Mining CEO Humphrey Fleischer has been found guilty of using Radiatian Citizens as slaves

The Supreme Court initially ruled that the 24 immigrants he was using as slaves was not in breach of the Bill of Rights as the 18th Clause only pertains to Radiatians. However he was found guilty of breaking a Federal law against passport stealing, having witheld the passports of the 24 men, and as his mine was substandard he had also broken safety regulations set by the Asgard state government.

However it was then revealed that seven of the 24 men, who were born in Eldura, Rivenka and the Tri-City Combine were actually permanent residents at the time the new constitution was adopted.

"Under Article Seven, Clause One of the Act of Constitution anyone who is a permanent resident of Radiatia at the time of the constitution's adoption is granted full citizenship," Said Federal Prosecutor Grigori Anderson. "This means that at least seven of these men are Radiatians and therefore protected by the Bill of Rights!"

After deliberating for one day, the jury found Humphrey Fleisher guilty of seven charges of slavery, 24 charges of passport theft, one charge of substandard safety practices and 24 charges of breaking local employment law.

He has been sentenced to death by hanging.

MILITARY TO BUILD "LASER WALL" AROUND THE BORDER
SENSOR TECHNOLOGY WILL DETECT ILLEGAL BORDER CROSSINGS

The Federal Ministry of Defence have announced plans to create a wall of lasers around the border of the Radiatian Federation.

The technology will be the same technology that is used in elevators to sense the presence of people who cross the Radiatian border, especially in Radiatia's many wilderness areas.

Image
Federal Defence Minister Feodro Schindler has announced plans to surround
the Radiatian border with a laser sensor.
"Until now it was never possible for us to have a fully secure border," Said Minister of Defence Feodor Schindler in a statement to the Federal Cabinet. "We all know Radiatia has enourmous wilderness areas and for all we know illegal immigrants are hopping over undetected as we speak.

"I hate to say this but for all we know there could be a foreign army waiting right now in the desert, without us even knowing."

It will be an enourmous task to undertake, with Radiatia having possibly the longest border on Noctur, bordering ten nations, but "definately doable" according to the Minister.

Criticism from the opposition has been mixed, with Shadow Defence Minister Arkadi Pavlovic stating in Parliament that "While I support any measure to increase Radiatia's security, I despair as to the cost of this project and its potential effectiveness. Indeed it would be very difficult to tell the difference between a border hopping illegal immigrant or a wild animal.

"Although to be fair illegal immigrants are hard enough to tell apart from animals as it is..." He added jokingly, causing both laughter and outrage in parliament.

The Workers Party also criticised the plans, with backbench MP Eva Wright saying "It's all fine and well saying that this will stop invasions, and stop criminals escaping to Alizeria. But there's a slippery slope between this and a plan to one day keep Radiatians trapped in Radiatia like in the days of communism!"

PRESIDENT SETS MID-TERM ELECTIONS DATE

President Yerkal Nathus has announced that the Mid-Term Elections are to be held in one month, with the 5th Federal Council given three weeks before it will be dissolved.

Political Parties will be given one month to campaign, with the Mid-Term Elections meaning that state governments are to be elected, as well as Premiers.

Image
The results of the Mid-Term elections determine which Party will control the Federal Council
While Mid-Term Election campaigns usually feature on issues affecting a particular state, there is likely to be a more federal focus this time, with many parties promising constitutional amendments if they gain the majority on the Federal Council.

Some ideas which may affect the whole Federation include the debate on whether or not Radiatia should switch to metric time, potentially repealing the unalterability of the consititution (making future amendments easier), an amendment that will make the President the deciding vote on the Federal Council and a possible repeal of the clause binding the President to take the Oath of Neutrality.

"This is going to unusual," Says political analyst Yorrick Ellis. "This is usually a time when voters forget the Federation, that's parliament's job, but on this occasion there is the chance that people may be voting with the Federal Council in mind rather than the state government. For example, the State of Midgard is considered a safe state for the Communist Party - but recent polls suggest that Midgardians may stragetically vote for the Workers or United Democrats to ensure a different majority on the Federal Council."

The mid-term elections are the hardest to predict, with no party or parties having had any major level of dominance and with its focus on state rather than federal matters.

SOUTH CORPSHIRE PASS CONTROVERSIAL "RETRIBUTION LAW"
VICTIMS GIVEN POWER TO SENTENCE CRIMINALS

SUKAI, SOUTH CORPSHIRE
Image
Courts in South Corpshire will now let victims sentence criminals instead of judges

The State of South Corpshire has successfully passed the controversial "Retribution Law" which will give victims the power to sentence criminals, rather than judges.

"I believe that justice is knowing that you are retributing someone who has wronged you," Said State Premier Christiana Ainsley. "It's time to remember the true victims of crime... the victims!

"I don't feel that justice should be dealt out by some soft little judge who wasn't a victim or even involved in the crime. The victim should be the one to choose the punishment.

"I know some may say that this is too harsh, for example this law means that a shopkeeper could potentially put a shoplifter to death, but frankly I view this as a potentially strong deterrent from crime."

The move is seen as risky by political commentators, given that it is just weeks out from the Mid-Term Elections.

However others say the risk could be a good strategy for the United Democrats, who are seeking re-election after Christiana Ainsley won the notoriously liberal state off the Workers Party in the previous state elections.

GRANNY KILLER TO BE EXECUTED
VANCE RYDER TO BECOME RADIATIA'S YOUNGEST EVER EXECUTED CRIMINAL

KUWESTANBUL, RESTERBURY
The High Court of Resterbury has announced that Radiatia's youngest ever convicted killer has been sentenced to death by lethal injection.

13 year old Vance Ryder gained national notoriety after he was convicted of breaking into a retirement home in the suburbs of Kuwestanbul and brutally bludgeoning an old lady to death with a baseball bat.

Image
13 year old Vance Ryder is to be executed tonight, making him the youngest person ever to be executed in Radiatia
Ryder showed absolutely no remorse during his trial, in which he pleaded "not innocent".

When asked what motivated him to commit such a heinous crime he blankly stated "Because I was bored."

A spokesman from the Resterbury State Detention Facility said that Ryder is to be executed at midnight tonight, Western Standard Time (3am Exegrad Time).

He will be spending his remaining few hours with his family. According to reports, his mother was distraught and begged for her son to be taken into psychiatric care, while his father, who is known for his Conservative leanings, said that he was saddened but still supported the sentence.

The Workers Party attempted to campaign to save him, chanting "He's Too Young! What have you done?" outside the Resterbury High Court in Kuwestanbul, hoping to turn it into a state-wide issue in the upcoming mid-term elections.

However the incumbent Conservatives were adamant that Ryder was a "waste of our oxygen and a stain on the reputation of the State of Resterbury, and on the Radiatian Federation itself."

ANALYSTS PREDICT MID-TERM ELECTION RESULTS
EXPERTS PREDICTING COMMUNISTS TO LOSE CONTROL OF FEDERAL COUNCIL

UERKU, SAKU
Political analysts have begun making predictions about the mid-term elections.

While the mid-terms are almost impossible to predict, given that they rely on issues that develop at a state level, many experts expect that that Communist Party are likely to lose their dominance on the Federal Council.
Image
Experts are predicting that the Communist Party are likely to lose their majority on the Federal Council

"A lot of people voted for the Communists in the last mid-term elections as a protest against Former President Derro Vahnsehn," Said Franklin Aberman, Professor of Political Science at the University of Saku. "But that's not an issue this time around, so it really depends on what's going on in the states, and it depends on voter apathy toward the constitutional amendments some parties are promising.

"I can't tell for certain, but I'd bet on either the Workers Party or the United Democrats to take the Federal Council. The United Democrats are definitely popular at the moment, though they would have to win over a lot of the swing states."

Professor Aberman also went on to explain that certain states "just won't budge."

"For example, Radia is what we call a Yellow State. It's had a United Democrats Premier since the Radiatian Federation was founded, so they're unlikely to change. Likewise, Midgard is a safe state for the Communists, and Polaris looks to be safe for the Conservatives."

RACISM IN RADIATIA?
ANTI-IMMIGRATION CAMPAIGN TAKES TO THE STREETS OF DAS ENGEL

DAS ENGEL, AMENTRA
Members of the Radiatian Destiny Party took to the streets of Das Engel today, with their anti-immigration campaign in the run-up to the Mid-Term elections.

Supporters chanted "If they're black, send 'em back!" in the middle of Radiatia's second largest city, a city that is home to Radiatia's largest black community and a large immigrant community.

Image
Radiatian Destiny Party supporters chanted "If they're black send 'em back"
The Das Engel Policy Enforcement Department (DEPED) were on hand in case the rallies became violent, which is according to Police Chief Brion Winthrop, "A likely outcome given Das Engel's highly sectarian nature. Last week a woman was stabbed because her handbag was the colour of a rival football team. Something like this is going to get nasty."

The Workers Party, Communist Party and United Democrats Party united to condemn the rallies, calling them "hate speech that should be banned."

However as the hate speech is against immigrants and not Radiatians, the Mayor of Das Engel permitted it to go ahead, for immigrants are not protected by the constitution.

"These people are taking our jobs!" Cried one supporter who did not wish to be named. "They're getting management positions in our companies and they don't know what they're doing! They want to turn us into a backward country like where they come from! If these people had any brains then their home country wouldn't have been so bad that they had to leave! This is the Great Northern Land, not the Midlands!"

Professor Ayaka Haden, who lectures in sociology at the University of Inner Das Engel said that the rallies are "cause for concern.

"While xenophobia is nothing new in Radiatia, indeed it crops up everytime there's even a hint of an election, this seems to be targeted at a specific group and could be classed as racism. To me this makes no sense as Radiatia has always been a multicultural country - you and I are speaking in English right now yet Radiatian is the official language."

The Radiatian Destiny Party have also made 'racist' remarks against Oriens Radiatians, calling them "Blind red-eyed leeches who sit on the FHS and drain our money." This was in reference to the higher proportion of blindness in elderly Oriens-Radiatians, due to their red coloured eyes.

Political analysts say the Radiatian Destiny Party are unlikely to win the State of Amentra, due to Amentra's high immigrant population, but they may steal votes off the Conservatives making it easier for the Workers Party to retain its control of Radiatia's third largest state.

"Ironically these anti-immigrant campaigners are making it more likely that Amentra will elect a pro-immigrant government."

RURAL MAYOR SHOOTS RAPISTS
CONSIDERS RUNNING FOR PREMIER

SOLITUDE, DIATARA
Two attempted rapists were shot dead outside a pub in the tiny hamlet of Solitude, Diatara.

Jaagen Autenburg, who is both the Mayor of Solitude and the owner of its only pub said that he heard a girl screaming so went outside and saw two young men trying to pin her down.

Image
Two rapists were shot dead in the tiny hamlet of Solitude, Diatara
"I had ma gun on me and couldn't think o' what else ter do. So I shots them both, so they won't be doin' no rapin' no more."

Shooting the two rapists was completely legal according to Diatara state law, and the Diatara State Army determined that the two men had kidnapped the girl (who has name suppression) and drove her from Dastor to Solitude.

Solitude only has a population of 450 people, however its Mayor's actions have made him a nationwide hero, and it is likely that he could now run as Premier of Diatara if he can prove to the Supreme Court that he has an IQ above 110.

"I'm in the Workers Party, because it's the only Party whose name I can pronounce," He said when asked about his politics. "I know what Workers means. I am a Worker and I still work everyday at my pub.

"I would like to be Premier though. We gots us a fine state here and also I'd get to go down to Xerconia and meet the President!"

Autenburg's sudden celebrity status may help the Worker's Party remove the incumbent Communists from power in the politically apathetic northern state.

FEDERAL COUNCIL FORMALLY DISSOLVED
5TH FEDERAL COUNCIL WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY

XERCONIA
President Yerkal Nathus has formally dissolved the Federal Council, ahead of the mid-term elections in a few days time.

Image
The 5th Federal Council was formally dissolved today by the President
Although this is the end for the 5th Federal Council, it is certain that every member will go down in history, for all 36 names and signatures of the 5th Federal Council appear on the Radiatian Constitution.

As it draws to a close, let us recap some of the key roles that the Federal Council has played over the last four years:

-The Communist Party gained control of the Federal Council in the mid-term elections four years ago, with Kenzie Essart becoming Chairman. Former President Derro Vahnsehn was outraged, stating that the Communists "ought to be banned from running." The Communists came to power as a result of dissatisfaction against the Former President, such as the growing corruption and the poll tax. The election result gained the 5th Federal Council the nickname "The Red-eral council."

-Spiltan Rushwa, the Premier of Amentra, was arrested by R-SOD after it was discovered that he had been using taxpayer money to fund his own private enterprises. This triggered a by-election, in which Allegra Rier of the Communist Party took over what had until then been a Conservative Party stronghold.

-The Federal Council declared a State of Emergency during the Gjenfodt terror attacks

-Following the terror attacks and resignation of President Derro Vahnsehn, they worked with parliament to draft and perfect a new constitution, of which all 36 members were signatories.

-A unanimous vote saw former Premier of Polaris Yerkal Nathus appointed the third President of the Radiatian Federation.

-Another by-election was held in Polaris, with Andrien Zakhar of the Conservatives becoming Yerkal Nathus's replacement on the Federal Council

R-SOD CONFISCATE "BOX OF KITTENS"
MISGUIDED ACT OF KINDNESS OR ACT OF TERRORISM?

XERCONIA, FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY
R-SOD reportedly had to confiscate a box of kittens that somebody had attempted to send to the President.

R-SOD agents were shocked when a delivery boy from the Radiatian Federal Post Service arrived at Level 101 with a box of kittens addressed to President Yerkal Nathus.

Image
R-SOD prevented this box of kittens being sent to the President due to security fears

A quick call to the President revealed that he was not expecting a box of kittens, so R-SOD agents moved in and confiscated the box immediately, and took the delivery boy into protective custody.

A phone call to the manager of the Federation City RFPS revealed that the kittens had arrived from an address in Resterbury with instructions to forward them to the President.

The delivery boy was then released, but not before the President gave him a quick personalised tour of Level 101.

The President said he "doubted that there was anything sinister planned" and that it was "probably someone's ill-judged attempt at kindness."

It is likely that they were sent after President Nathus revealed last month that his pet cat Fluffy had passed away.

WORKERS PARTY TAKE FEDERAL COUNCIL
CHONGLUNTZ PREMIER SAMUEL NEGASI SWORN IN AS CHAIRMAN

XERCONIA
The Workers Party have taken control of the Federal Council, after winning 15 states in the mid-term elections.

President Yerkal Nathus has confirmed that Chongluntz Premier Samuel Negasi, who is currently serving his fourth term, will be sworn in as Chairman of the 6th Federal Council.

Image
Samuel Negasi has been sworn in as Chairman of the 6th Federal Council
It is not yet certain as to what a Workers-Party dominated Federal Council is going to achieve, if anything, but many political analysts are calling it "proof that the Workers Party are still relevant in Radiatian Politics, a message they are trying to hammer home after their dismal result in the parliamentary elections."

Sameul Negasi has confirmed that they may be wanting to pass a constitution amendment giving the Federal Council partial void power, however despite having 15 seats on the Federal Council, he will still need the backing of another three Premiers to make any constitutional changes.

On a state level, Christiana Ainsley's controversial "Retribution Bill" appears to have paid off, winning her and the United Democrats a second term in South Corpshire while the Conservative Party's hold on Resterbury finally came to an end with incumbent Gintaras Cummins defeated by the United Democrats' Hoshi Scarlett by 134 votes.

And Jaagen Autenburg, the heroic mayor of Solitude, Diatara was elected the Premier of Diatara following him becoming a national hero for shooting two rapists outside his pub in the small hamlet.

He defeated Shizuka Petrov of the Communist Party, however there was no bitterness on the part of Petrov - indeed, the former Premier has agreed to run Autenburg's pub in Solitude while Autenburg serves on the Federal Council.

CONTROVERSIAL GAMESHOW GIVEN GREEN LIGHT
"SING TO SAVE YOUR LIFE" TO BE FILMED IN SASKENYA

ROBOSAN, SASKENYA
The State of Saskenya has announced that it will allow the controversial proposed gameshow "Sing to Save Your Life" to be filmed there.

In the show, contestants will sing songs in an attempt to win a multi-million dollar prize - however any contestant who is elimated will be executed on air.

Image
The State of Saskenya is allowing the filming of a talent show in which losers are killed on air
"Call it barbaric if you like, but why not have a show where bad singers are executed? I'm sick of all these talent shows, why not kill off the losers?" Said one TV executive.

The show was originally going to be filmed in either Das Engel or Exegrad, but the Amentra State Government and the Alayenia State Government both explicity banned the show from being filmed and condemned it as "sick and inhumane."

The Saskenya Government, which is currently dominated by the Radiatian Destiny Party, has stated that it will allow the show to filmed "Provided that it has the informed consent of its contestants, or failing that it may use convicted criminals."

The Federal Government has announced it will not intervene, and the President has declared that as long as the show either uses criminals or informed and consenting adults then it is perfectly constitutional.

NUCLEAR WASTE TRAIN DERAILED
AUTHORITIES ADAMANT "THERE IS NO CAUSE FOR ALARM"

SAND DUNE REGION, XEGFAUSE
A train carrying several tonnes of radioactive waste has been derailed in southern Xegfause, 60km north of Xerconia.

Image
A train carrying radioactive waste was derailed north of Xerconia
Authorities are as yet unable to ascertain what may have caused the train to be derailed, however authorities have confirmed that none of the nuclear flasks have been damaged.

The flasks were en route to a radioactive waste disposal area in central Xegfause.

"There is no real cause for concern," Said Radiatian Atomic Safety Committee spokesman Raven Stoppelbein. "Although I can certainly understand the panic caused by this happening so close to a major city. But you must realise that these nuclear flasks are extremely durable."

A clean-up crew is already present and the flasks have been transported to their destination while investigators try to work out what caused the train to derail.

The events are likely to cause a resurgance in Radiatia's anti-nuclear movement, with protestors already spotted on the streets of Xerconia and Exegrad.

ZIIGRUT TO REPEAL AGE OF CONSENT "LOOPHOLE"

THEOTHEA, ZIIGRUT
Newly elected Ziigrut Premier Taisiya Pearce has vowed to rewrite the state's age of consent laws.

Under current Ziigrut State law, "It is illegal to have intercourse with a 12 year old."

Image
Ziigrut Premier Taisiya Pearce has condemned her State's Age of Consent laws as being full of loopholes.
However, Pearce and the state's newly elected Conservative government have been quick to point out that the law means that someone under the age of 12 is not protected by the bizarrely worded law.

"It is a bizarre and disgusting loophole. When you look at things like this it is no wonder that our great state has to fend off against negative stereotypes!" She said in a speech to the Ziigrut State Politburo.

This is not the first time in recent weeks that the State of Ziigrut has been made a nationwide laughing stock. Shortly before the mid-term elections, none of the initial candidates running for Premier of Ziigrut were able to pass the Supreme Court IQ test required to be allowed to sit on the Federal Council, and the respective political parties each had to field new candidates.

Comedian Fushi Sakka was quick to mock the situation, saying on a chat show "According to the constitution, to run for government you have to be sane and have an IQ over 110. I mean really? Have these people never been to Ziigrut? You aren't going to find anyone in that state who's sane and has an IQ over 110! Because if they were, then they wouldn't be living in Ziigrut!"

Premier Taisiya Pierce has sworn that "While I am Premier I plan to kick some sense into Ziigrut and have some laws that really protect our people!"

FORMER REVOLUTIONARY DIES AGED 104
SOLE SURVIVING MEMBER OF THE ORIGINAL LIBERATION ARMY FINALLY AT REST

PIROT, DIIFGRAO
Borislav Siemon, the last surviving member of the Radiatian People's Liberation Army, that won the revolution and civil war in LAI 947 had died in his home in Pirot, Diifgrao aged 103.

Siemon was born in LAI 928 in Tchort, shortly before the Fascist Interregnum and was 19 years old when he took part in the revolution that successfully created the RPSU.

Image
Borislav Siemon, the last surviving member of the revolutionary Radiatian People's Liberation Army passed away today aged 104
He refused to answer any of our interview questions today, as he was dead, but he has recounted much of his life story in previous interviews.

"I was never really a communist," He said. "But I joined the Liberation army in LAI 945, it was very secret, we drove miles up north into the desert and the plateau in I think Drachensgard... You see a lot of intellectuals were doing this, my brother was at university and they all... well I just followed along. I was 17 and the thing is I don't think any of us were communists.

"We were fighting the racism. We were fighting what Fyurid Exer was doing in places like New Vashura and Skorptsch and Diifgrao, where he was killing all the Oriens-Radiatians who had settled Central Radiatia hundreds of years ago and he was only interested in White Radiatians, people from places like Radia and Alayenia.

"Now communism seemed the only alternative - Narus was communist, and it seemed communism or fascism were the only options. Capitalism we'd never heard of, and democracy was not fashionable back then. Back then the only democracy on Noctur was Nova Conscientia and they were a laughing stock, they took nearly 50 years to pass one law.

"So I took part and I fought the civil war and ... well the citizens supported us too. No one supported Fyurid Exer, they were only afraid of him. So eventually once we were going everyone was going and Exer was eventually killed and eventually we stormed Xerconia and it became our capital. The rest is history. You all know about Klon Witzer and he was a charming man, so we all got behind him. I left when Drake Zerkus came along but he never touched me... because he knew I was ex-Liberation, I founded the RPSU as far as he was concerned. So we went about.

"I've seen the world change and will continue to change. Communism was fashionable then, capitalism is now, democracy came and went... I'm proud that I stood up for something but ultimately nothing you do in life lasts. It all seems important at the time but now look at me. I'm an old man, the RPSU is gone, Fyurid Exer, Klon Witzer, Drake Zerkus, Soden Perstesht, Traiyan Silviu... all those leaders, names, faces... they come and go. Nothing really matters."

DERRO VAHNSEHN TO RUN FOR PARLIAMENT
FORMER PRESIDENT JOINS THE RADIATIAN DESTINY PARTY

TAVLAND, CLODE
Former President Derro Vahnsehn has announced his intention to run for the Federal Parliament in the next election.

Image
Former President Derro Vahnsehn will be running for parliament in the next general election
The controversial former President has joined the Far Right-wing Radiatian Destiny Party and intends to fun for a federal electorate in his home city of Tavland, Clode.

Vahnsehn resigned as President last year, following the Gjenfodt terrorist attacks. His time as President was dogged with controversy and accusations of corruption. He also became an international pariah after his decision to invade the Republic of Narus. He was also a signatory of the Radiatian Constitution.

He currently hosts a popular talkback radio show, with listeners attracted to his "endearingly" politically incorrect views.

"I'd support Derro Vahnsehn to the end of Noctur," Said one man we interviewed. "He's a real person. He's not like all those plastic politicians, like that awful Lena Toriah woman we have in Level 99 now. Derro will go a long way in parliament. He'll fix this country."

The Caucus of the Radiatian Destiny Party have so far been tight-lipped has to how highly ranked Vahnsehn will be in the party but has confirmed that he will most likely be the Spokesman on one or more portfolios.
