Darmen defeats Bettia 2-1, moves up to fourth
Zach Preston showed why he is considered Darmen's best player, as he scored an amazing goal in the 57th minute. After the ball had gone out of bounds, and had been awarded to Darmen, Luca Cormio showed off his long throw-in skills, and threw the ball into the 6 yard box from almost mid-field. Tor Tong Lee headed the ball towards goal, but a Bettian defender got his foot to the ball and cleared it out of the 18 yard box. However, Preston was waiting for it, and before the ball could touch the ground, Preston fired a shot to score the goal.
Bryan Faulkner scored in the 82nd minute after recieving a pass from Danny Beasley. Troy Osborne allowed a quick answering goal from Bettia in the 86th minute, but Darmen was able to hang on for the 2-1 victory. It seems as though Darmen's offense played very well at first glance, but that's not so.
Fualkner and Kenneth Nolan combined for 3 shots on goal, while the midfield of Preston, Lee, Cormio, Beasley, and Jake Gibbons combined for 8 shots on goal. If Darmen had connected on all 11 of it's shots on goal, it would have been Darmen's highest ever scoring game. But Darmen connected only twice, and it was a very close game. Despite the offensive struggles (or was it the hot goalkeeper on the other end of the field) Manager Mikael Gibbons' job is safe, for now. Knowing that he needs to win 4 of the remaining six games, Gibbons said that the likely hood of him keeping his job is slim, but he hopes to do his best and hopes that the players out on the pitch help him keep his job.
