History:
Before the establishment of the Hippostanian nation, there were many Germanic and Celtic tribes living around the mouth of the Hippo River (location of the present day capital city of Waverley). These tribes united in 240AD to form the Hipponian Kingdom. They got their name from the several hippos that inhabited the shores of the Hippo River. The kingdom invaded several neighbouring nations and continued to expand, finally reaching the Hippo Lake in 870.

After conquering several smaller states, Hipponian Kingdom became the Hipponian Empire in 1210. The empire conquered several neighbouring natitons, and by 1300 it was the largest and the wealthiest nation in the Mediterranean area. In 1585 Hippostania started the colonization of North America, and by 1600 Hippostania had an extensive colony that spread from Louisiana to New Brunswick and Labrador.

In 1676, France declared war on Hippostania to gain control of the Hippostanian colonies. The Hippostanian garrison in New Waverley (present day New Orleans) was too ill-equipped to fight the huge amount of French soldiers, and they surrendered after 3 days. After recieving information about the loss of New Waverley, the emperor attempted to launch attack on the French port city of Marseille, but they were beaten back. A peace treaty was signed in 1678, forcing Hippostania to give all its North American colonies to France, and also give a piece of land in Southern Hippostania to France. This piece of land was known as Serenia, and it was to remain in French control for over 100 years. Hippostania also had to change its name from Hipponian Empire to Hippostanian Kingdom and throne Louis, Dauphin of France as the king of Hippostania. During the next 100 years, Hippostania became one of the most liberal countries of its time. During the early 1700's, Hippostania was home to one of the world's most famous artists and painters. This time period is often known as the Hippostanian Golden Years

After the French Revolution of 1789, Hippostanians quickly executed their loved and hated king, Louis XVI of Hippostania and invaded Serenia. Soon after the invasion, the Hippostanian Civil War started. Monarchists wanted to re-establish the Hipponian Empire, while the Republicans wanted to establish a republic. The civil war lasted 11 years, ending in 1800. On 19th of October 1800, Hippostania was declared a republic.

Hippostania participated in both World Wars, both on the allied side.

On July 30th 2011, millions of colorful anthropomorfic creatures emerged from at least 180 bright-pink portals that had appeared all around Hippostania. Hippostanian Police and Military had no time to react at all, and the ponies took over the country fairly quickly. While some Hippostaniasn escaped to neighbouring nations, others have decided to stay in Hippostania and build a new Hippostania together with humans and ponies. The Transitional Pony Council controlled the nation until free and democratic elections were held, where the Pony Party got exactly 50% of the votes.


History of the Hippostanian flag

Politics:
Hippostania is a parliamentary representative democratic republic with a multi-party system. High Chancellor of Hippostania is the head of state, she leads the foreign policy with co-operation with the Cabinet and is the Commander-in-Chief of the Hippostanian Armed Forces. High Chancellor has many notable powers, but she rarely uses them. These include the power of veto over parliamentary decisions and the power to propose laws to the Cabinet without parliamentary consent. High Chancellor formally appoints the Parliamentary Chancellor of Hippostania and the rest of the cabinet as proposed by the Parliamentary Chancellor. High Chancellor is elected every 10 years, and the current high chancellor is Blue October

Most executive power lies in the Cabinet headed by the parliamentary chancellor. Responsibility for forming the cabinet out of several political parties and negotiating its platform is granted to the leader of the party gaining largest support in the elections for the parliament. This person also becomes leader of the cabinet. Any minister and the cabinet as a whole however must have continuing trust of the parliament and may be voted out, resign or be replaced. The cabinet is made up of the prime minister and the ministers for the various departments of the central government. All members of the Cabinet must be members of the Hippostanian Parliament. The current parliamentary chancellor is Lyra

The 500-member unicameral Hippostanian Parliament is the supreme legislative authority in Hippostania. However, the parliament may not alter the Constitution of Hippostania or override vetoes made by the high chancellor. Its acts are not subject to judicial review. Legislation may be initiated by the Cabinet, or one of the parliament members, who are elected for a five-year term on the closed-list proportional representation. Persons 21 or older, except military personnel on active duty and a few high judicial officials, are eligible for election. The regular parliamentary term is five years; however, the High Chancellor may dissolve the Parliament and order new elections at the request of the Cabinet. All socialist and communist parties have been outlawed since 2011.

Bourgeois Party, as the name says, is the party of the rich. BP supports low tax rates and opposes state-run healthcare etc. On civil rights however, the party is quite liberal

Center Party is a centrist agrarian party, until recently, the party has been quite authoritarian but is slowly becoming more and more liberal. It is quite unlikely that the party will ever get rid of its ''party for the rednecks'' image.

Hippostania First is a liberal conservative party that supports an interventionist foreign policy, a large army but has fairly liberal civil right policies

Liberal Democratic Progressive Party
Market liberalism
LDPP is a classical liberal party that supports civil and political rights. According to LDPP, the right to free trade is a human right. They support a moderate-sized army and are neutral about state-run healthcare.

Social conservatism, nationalism
NDP is often called a populist right-wing party. Its members are extremely nationalist anti anti-reformist. They oppose foreign influence on Hippostania and support a strong army and patriotism.

Ponyist anticommunism, populism
New Dawn was formed when radical anti-communists from the Pony Party left the PP due to ''radical leftist ideals present in the party''. They are strongly against any kind of government-sponsored healthcare or welfare, support a neoconservative foreign policy and have a fairly conservative social policy

To understand the Pony Party, you must understand the ideology of ponyism first. Ponyism is centered around the elements of harmony, which are honesty, kindness, laughter, generosity, loyalty, and magic. The party encourages Hippostanians to use and promote these elements in their daily life. At the moment, Pony Party is the most leftist party in Hippostania.

*Don't break your map into two images. Rather, use one image scaled down to fit, and below it link to the full-size one.
*I think the fourth line under government should read "101 or more"

EXPANSION - ESSENTIAL
*Add some more statistics. Definitely include both population (+1 respect if you choose a realistic RP number instead of whatever your NS page says) and GDP per capita (to get a realistic number, either use a calculator, or take your economic level where 1=imploded and 15=frightening, multiply by 3,000, and then replace the three zeros with random digits. Convert to your currency, if desired). Land area, and literacy rate are both helpful as well.

90% of the armed forces are still operated by humans. Ponies mainly operate in the Navy, since ships are large, so ponies have lots of room.

OOC:Great factbook. Funny- my nation has Lewisham. I'm guessing much of the inspiration came from Surrey and S London which feels comfortable, due to the fact they're easier to pronouce and they're kind of in my area.

A fun fact: Most of the cities in Hippostania are named after British cities and neighbourhoods of London; most of the cities in the Hipponian-speaking southern part are named after neighbourhoods of Paris

Does the Pony Republic of Hippostania really believe it is the ideology of communism that killed the hundreds of millions or is it the people and their way of implementing it that did? But of course, the guy playing it: If there ever was anyone in any nation like him, it probably would be dealt with a lack of tolerance.

Well, that PSA was originally made in the republic of Hippostania.. But to be honest, those PSA's have been extragerated, a lot. Just to make them funnier ..besides, Hippostania isn't really a commie friendly country.

I think though there's a couple things you could add about geography which would be neat and give people an idea about what Hippostania is like if a person were to go there (like what Hemisphere it is on, climate, tourist spots, does it have 4 seasons or 2, weather hazards, etc. ) Overall the map is lovely. Have you named the rivers and mountain ranges? Are there local flora and fauna that are unique to Hippostania alone? What's the national animal and bird? (Include them in your factbook)

As for culture, What kind of Holidays are celebrated (National and religious) What kind of things do your people do on these holidays (Unique celebrations and customs)? What would be the best local dish to try in your country? What are Hippostania's people's best sports? Who is Hippostania's best known authors and musicians? What songs and books do they write? (tells people what kind of people Hippostanians are! if they love and celebrate poetry, philosophy, politics, lore, etc.) What kind of Family structures are accepted and unaccepted? If I were to visit a Hippostanian host family as a foreign exchange student, what kind of family would I expect to meet? (Nuturing, traditional, self reliant etc? single parents, two parents, unmarried couples with children etc? )

What kind of science and technology is forbidden and which kind is promoted? Are you using the Metric or British system?

What does the Hippostanian police force look like? How big is it? What kind of branches are in it (Counter intelligence, internal affairs, inspectors etc.)?

Those are a few things I'm thinking of, but otherwise it's really good. Keep up the good work Hippostania.
