Not British.
"Then I was fertilized and grew wise;
From a word to a word I was led to a word,
From a work to a work I was led to a work."
- Odin, Hávamál 138-141, the Poetic Edda, as translated by Dan McCoy.

I enjoy meta-humor and self-deprecation. Annoying, right?

Nah, Virgin is a British television provider owned by the same company with the airline and spaceship.

I'm trying to stay as close as I can to the original premise in an environment where the good players can thrive and the poorer players fade away; I'd love for this to become a series of episodic RPs.

Great!
Might join some time!

Well I need at least one more autobot to start the RP.

Good of you to remind me, still gotta see that 3rd one.

Or actually the fourth one of course, I only recently saw 'the' movie.

I must say I like the new movies. People can hate them all they want for not being the cartoon, but honostly, they are sort of realistic giant robots blowing the shit out of everything. That's pretty cool.

Then again, I never got into the original cartoon or any other media in the franchise too much, so it's not my childhood memories they're raping. I ám pretty curious how bad Michael Bay and co are going to fuck up the new ninja turtles movie. Now that stuff is holy in my book.

I did get into the cartoons as a kid, but I feel it is just a different continuity. Nothing more

I watched the first of the Bay movies recently, and was mostly left annoyed at everyone in it. Seriously, there was very little to like about the characters and there was little enough action to just ignore the story and characterizations and chew through a popcorn flick. Bleh.
I haven't gotten around to seeing RotF or DotM yet. For reference, I watched the hell out of the original cartoon series and loved the movie. Only caught little bits of later cartoons and basically none of the comics.
Yeah, my sig is just an album containing some of my Pony Flags instead of having to look them all up when needed.

The difference? That scene in the first one where Megatron died would have been stretched to about two hours.

They would have been more graphically violent. (Slightly) less explosions and gunfire, more blood and gore, or the robot equivalent of it. Optimus fighting the Fallen would have been a nasty fight, both of them ripping parts out of each other and then using those same parts to stab their opponent in the eye or pin them to a wall. Optimus would have walked away victorious but with steaming hot motor oil all over him.

There also would have been more suspense, extra time would not be filled with comedy sidekicks chattering or teenagers romancing (okay, he would do that last one, but at least he would give us more explicit sex), but exploited to have people (and robots) walk around in the dark getting scared by a cat, or maybe we'd get a shot of the bad guy fixing his eye or something.

Noice choice.

For me it's: Optimus Prime; Jazz; Brawn; Gears; Huffer; Rumble ('Hey! No one calls Soundwave unchrasimatic.'); Blitzwing.

Least favourite character: Hot Rod (he got Prime killed by ignoring Kup's sage warrior advice!)

Favourite episodes: 'Dark Awakening' and 'The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2' (Optimus Prime handed Hot Rod his ass in both, which gave me a real sense of satisfaction.)

The Bay movies are disposable at best.

My favourite characters
Tracks, snobbyish voice
Wreck-Gar, he talks TV
Blurr, fastest talker and car
Starscream, always trying to overthrow Megatron like the Cobra Commander
Fortress Maximus, Awesome transformation sequence.

I want to create a Michael Bay drinking game, but I don't have enough people to test it out.

An hero opinion. A correct opinion. :)

But, then again, I guess I can kind of see the appeal.

Opinions by their very definition cannot be "correct." Anyone who says otherwise is living proof of that.

I happen to dig them quite a bit. They have no pretentions of being any more than they are. Live action cartoons.

Thing is, the cartoons had more meat than the movies. Ya know... Character development. No humans. Suspense.

I would never dare to compare the 80's cartoon to the movies.

The movies have stabs at such things, but I'd be lying if it wasn't geared totally toward the action scenes. Or crude humor. Which, I'm not going to lie, I actually found pretty funny.

I would. Because nostalgia has polished the '80s cartoon far more than it deserves. Not to say it wasn't a big deal or very well crafted in certain ways, but... come on.

Exactly. In the end it wasn't the ultimate incarnation of the summum of a legendary masterpiece, but what would you expect from a 45 minute toy commercial?
