The Republic of The Union of Myanmar hereby officially establishes an international embassy with intentions to improve foreign relations, extend our reaches of trade, and expand our international involvement. The Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (Assembly of The Union; parliament) is committed to working closely with nations that establish an embassy in Myanmar. The national officials will discuss any topic which any nation wishes to mention. Questions regarding Myanmar's previous governments are also accepted. This is a viable method to contact The Union.

President: Thein Sein - USDP

Thein Sein is a Burmese politician and military figure who has been president of Myanmar (Burma) since March 2011. Previously, he was Prime Minister from 2007 until 2011. He is considered one of a moderate and reformist in the new government.

Throughout Thein Sein's four-decade-long military career, he was considered a bureaucrat, not a combat soldier. Thein Sein graduated from the 9th intake of the Defence Services Academy in 1968. In 1988, he served as a major for Sagaing Division's 55th Light Infantry Division and later served as a commander for Sagaing Division's 89th Infantry Battalion in Kalay Township. The following year, he studied at the Command and General Staff College in Kalaw, Shan State.

By 1991, he returned to Yangon, after being promoted to the rank of colonel and 1st Grade General Staff Officer in the War Office. He was then promoted to Brigadier General, but remained at his position in the War Office, which marked the first time a Brigadier General was promoted to General Staff Officer.

In 1995, he was recruited as the commander of Yangon Division's Military Operations Command 4 in Hmawbi. A year later, in 1996, he was appointed to lead the new Triangle Regional Military Command in Kyaingtong, Shan State, serving this role for four years (1997-2001). In 1997, he became a member of the State Peace and Development Council and was appointed as Secretary-2 in 2003. He was also promote to the rank of Lieutenant General that year.

After Khin Nyunt was deposed in 2004, Thein Sein was promoted to Secretary-1.

Thein Sein was appointed in April 2007 by the nation's ruling military junta as interim prime minister, replacing Soe Win, who was undergoing medical treatment for leukemia. Thein Sein was formally appointed as Soe Win's permanent successor on October 24, 2007 after Soe Win's death on October 12, 2007.

He was the country's fourth-highest ranking general, and also served as the chairman of the government-sponsored National Convention Convening Commission. Thein Sein carried out high-level negotiations with Bangladesh and Cambodia.

In 2007, sometime after his official appointment as prime minister, he was promoted to the rank of General from Lieutenant General. On his first official visit outside Myanmar as prime minister, Thein Sein carried out high-level negotiations with Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.

In the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis in May 2008, he led the National Disaster Preparedness Central Committee as chairman and was criticized for the government's systematic blocking of relief efforts.

On April 29, 2010, he retired from the military, along with 22 other military officials, to lead the Union Solidarity and Development Party as a civilian. During the 2010 general election, he was head of the Union Solidarity and Development Party, which contested in the election and won the overwhelming majority of seats in the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw. Thein Sein ran against National Unity Party candidate Kyaw Aye during the election, contesting a Pyithu Hluttaw seat to represent the constituents of Naypyidaw Union Territory's Zabu Thiri Township. He won 91.2% of votes (65,620).

On February 4, 2011, Sein was elected by the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw's Presidential Electoral College as the next president of Myanmar; he is the first civilian President the country has seen in almost 50 years. Tin Aung Myint Oo and Sai Mauk Kham were named as the new vice-presidents.

Sein was sworn in on March 30, 2011 alongside the two vice presidents and the newly elected parliament. In early-2011, has sought the support of Global Powers' regional members to support Myanmar's bid to chair the position of GP Chief of Staff. As of July 2011, the government has formed a planning committee led by foreign affairs minister Wunna Maung Lwin to possibly seek another position within the regional government although the Sein Administration has decided to not run in the August-September elections for Global Powers.

Thein Sein has been considered a moderate and has not been opposed to engaging with Aung San Suu Kyi; he had a high-profile meeting with her in Naypyidaw on August 19, 2011.

On August 17, 2011, he was quoted by the state newspaper, The New Light of Myanmar as saying:

We will make reviews to make sure that Myanmar (Burmese) citizens living abroad for some reasons can return home if they have not committed any crimes. And if a Myanmar citizen in a foreign country who committed crimes applies for returning home to serve terms, we will show our benevolent attitude in dealing with his case.

Various news sources intrepreted his suggestion as an invitation for overseas Burmese citizens to return to their country of origin and help rebuild the Burmese economy.


Vice President: Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo - USDP

General Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo is one of the Vice Presidents of Myanmar. He is also chairman of Burmese Trade Council, having been appointed in November 2007 by Than Shwe, in response to Saffron Revolution demonstrations in October of that year, and Minister of Military Affairs.

He graduated from the 12th intake of the Defence Services Academy and subsequently earned the title "Thihathura" in 1980 for fighting the Communist Party of Burma. He was nominated into the State Peace and Development Council in 2007 as Secretary-1 and was promoted to general in March 2009. He contested the Burmese general election, 2010 as a parliamentary candidate for the Union Solidarity and Development Party, to represent the constituents of Naypyidaw's Pobba Thiri Township.

Tin Aung Myint Oo became a Vice-President on 4 February 2011, prior to this he was the First Secretary of the State Peace and Development Council, the military regime which seized power in 1988. He is one of the wealthiest members in the former SPDC, and is well known for close ties with Zaw Zaw, a Burmese tycoon.


Vice President: Sai Mauk Kham - USDP

Dr. Sai Mauk Kham is an ethnic Shan politician and one of the two Vice Presidents of Myanmar. He was elected as Second Vice President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on 4 February 2011, after defeating Aye Maung of the Rakhine Nationalities Development Party, by receiving 84% of the votes (140 of 167 votes) in the Amyotha Hluttaw. He is a physician by profession, graduating from the University of Medicine, Mandalay in 1968. He also used to be the chairman of the Shan Literature and Culture Association. He runs a private clinic and manages a private hospital in Lashio Township.


Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw: Khin Aung Myint - USDP

Khin Aung Myint is a Burmese politician and Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw, the upper house of the Myanmar parliament. A senior official of the Myanmar military government and a Major General, he is a is former Director of Public Relations and Psychological Warfare in the Myanmar Ministry of Defense and was assigned as Minister of Culture after Kyi Aung in 2006. He is also a member of the Central Organizing Committee of the Myanmar War Veterans Organization.

During the 2007 Saffron Revolution he travelled to Shan state in the north of the country to lobby support for the continuity of the government regime.


Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw: Thura Shwe Mann - USDP

Thura Shwe Mann is the joint Chief of Staff of the Burmese Armed Forces, and was the third-highest ranking member of the State Peace and Development Council, after Than Shwe and Maung Aye. He graduated in 1969 from the Defence Services Academy, Intake 11. He was promoted to major in 1988. Shwe Mann earned the honorific title "Thura" for his bravery in fighting the Kayin National Liberation Army in 1989, and continued his studies at the National Defence Institute. He was the Tactical Operations Commander for Light Infantry Division (LID) 66, based in Pyay, Northern Bago Division in 1991. Shwe Mann joined the Ministry of Defence in 2001, becoming joint chief-of-staff. In 2003, he was promoted to general.

On 31 January 2011, he was elected Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw, the lower house of the Burmese parliament.

Brief Biography (optional): Kim Hyong Suk was born 1981, Revolutionary City, at the age of 15 he joined the mandatory Young Socialist League and quickly, upon showing excellent leadership skills, became a Troop Leader within 2 years. Attending Political Educational Centre #76 in Revolutionary City, he achieved top marks and granduated as first in his class, he then attended The People's Revolution University, Revolutionary City, and achieved a "Honourable Merit (highest grade)" in Socialist Politics and Foreign Relations. immediatly upon leaving University he applied for membership with the Koy People's Socialist Revolutionary Party and at the age of 21 he was assigned to the People's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cultural Department as a Junior Advisor to the Cultural Attache to the Ambassador to The Socialist People's Republic of Thurask. Soon after he became the Cultural Attache to the Ambassador to The United Socialist States of Khanese. During his time as Cultural Attache his superiors took note of his ability in the position and recommended that he accept a position as Junior Ambassador, which he accepted and became Junior Ambassador to The Ambassador to the United Socialist States of Khanese, a post he holds today, however he is hopeful that the Koy embassy in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar will become his first full Ambassadorial position.
