Common Questions

What's this region all about?

Just as the logo above implies, we are an alternate, modern, roleplaying region. Upon joining, we allow the nations and players to shape the history of the region by events from terrorist activity to large-scale peace accords. It is through your nation's actions that will determine your nation's reputation and popularity throughout our region. We believe in a 'regulated' sense of self-determination in that we don't want any nations to randomly invade and take empty lands so that we may have more room for new nations. However, we also welcome those who want to play and shape the history of not only the region, but their country itself.

Why should I join this region?

Well there are definitely plenty of reasons why we believe that you should choose us over other regions, but the biggest reason is probably the sense of raw international-simulation role play. This region prides itself on its relatively small size, sense of togetherness, and its realism. Upon joining our region, we can assure you that your time will not be wasted and that you, if you follow the rules, will have a great time.

What's up with this Census page?

The Census page is a great example of our nearly boundless roleplay. In this region we do not necessarily abide by the population that is given to us by NationStates itself. Instead, we create our own populations by accordance of the nation's land you occupy in the real world and by the size of your new Pohlmanian country. For example, if you were to claim the land of Nepal we couldn't possibly permit you to have one billion citizens, but rather something more appropriate to the population of Nepal. The population that you will negotiate with is the population for inter-regional roleplays. THIS POPULATION IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR OUTSIDE-REGIONAL ROLEPLAYS. If you are going to roleplay with nations outside the region you may not use this population as it will be frowned upon.

Can anybody make an alliance, like the UNP, PITO, or SMIDACON?

Of course! However, making a region-wide alliance is no easy task. In order to have your alliance's constitution, charter, pact, etc. appear on the World Factbook Entry, you will have to gain recognition by having more members or becoming a force inside the region. However, there is a huge difference between a regional-wide alliance and a exclusive-alliance, such as a possible European Union or African Union in which only certain members of Pohlmania may join - this type of an alliance would be a far easier make.

What is this region's policy on puppets?

The more, the merrier! However, we ask that if you are bringing puppets into the region you are active and bipartisan with them and that you not bring too many of them with you; we wish to have more players in the region and not a select few people with a lot of puppets.

Upon joining, can I have any land I want?

No. Unless you are making a deal with a current nation, you have to choose from the open lands and then that will be approved or disapproved by a few nations already in Pohlmania. In addition, for bigger role nations (such as an India, Israel, Mexico, Brazil, etc.) we ask that you are more active and not only coming on sporadicly and not often. If you do so decide to take on a big role and we deem you unworthy after being inactive or unsatifactory, you will be asked to pick a new plot of land.

Organizations
The United Nations of Pohlmania (UNP); A United Nations like organization that welcomes all types of nations regardless of government, religion, or economic policies. This organization writes and enforces the laws of the Region of Pohlmania through the General and Security Councils.

The Pohlmania International Treaty Organization (PITO); A NATO like organization that does welcome all types of nations regardless of government, religion, or economic policies - although it is preferable to have a democracy and capitalism in tact. The organization will stand up when it feels that freedom and capitalism are being threatened.

Sovereign States for Mutual International and Domestic Assistance Convention (SMIDACON); A COMECON like organization that welcomes nations usually associated with more totalitarian types of nations. This organization steps up to protect totalitarian nations that are under threat from organizations like the United Nations of Pohlmania or PITO.

The Regional Constitution

I. On National Sovereignty.

§01.01 All sovereign and independent nations will be given equal opportunity to join Pohlmania, regardless of political, religious, or cultural differences.

§01.02 No nation will be ejected on the basis of angering another nation. However, all nations are the subject of ejection due to any of the following:


• advertising other regions in the Regional Message Board;
  
• repeated flaming, trolling, god-modding, or disrespect;
• abuse of proxy and/or puppet nations; or,
• inactivity or account deletion;

§01.03 No nation will be ejected without a chance to state their case to the remaining nations, fair warning, and reason of ejection.

§01.04 In matters concerning the entire region, the United Nations of Pohlmania's General Council will vote on it. As stated in the United Nations of Pohlmaina Charter, all member nations have exactly one vote. All member nations are subject to decisions made by a regional discussion and vote.

II. On Self-Determination.

§02.01 Any group of two or more nations may create an alliance or organization based on political, religious, or cultural similarities. However, this alliance will not appear on the World Factbook Entry until it has gained either a large enough support, followers, or recognizers.

§02.02 The nominated head of each alliance or organization has the right to eject others from the alliance or organization.

§02.03 All alliances or organizations are recommended to have a Charter, Constitution, or at least a set of rules for members to follow, but ultimately it is a matter left to the discretion of the head of the alliance or organization.

§02.04 If there are existing alliances or organizations that represent your nation's political, religious, or cultural views, you are strongly recommended to join it, instead of creating your own.

III. Miscellanious.

§03.01 All nations are encouraged to keep to the statistics they present to the Regional Census.

§03.02 All nations will be given a chance to choose their territory on a blank world map. The size of the land should represent your nation's population, although exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis. All nations are recommended to keep the IRL nations' borders in mind, for the sake of easier division for the person who has to make the map.

§03.03 The founder, the United Commonwealth of Amireland, of the Region of Pohlmania, reserves the right to alter or overturn these founding principles of the region at any time.

§03.04 By remaining in the Region of Pohlmania, one has bound themselves to this Constitution and understands the consequences of breaking any of the said rules listed above.

Pohlmanian Etiquette - For Newcomers

When you become a member of Pohlmania, you are given a privilege to be part of a global community on an alternate world. Abuse this privilege, and you can and will be banned, depending on the severity of your lack of consideration to the other members.

So, here are the Pohlmanian Etiquette Do's and Don'ts!

DO - Take an interest in your nation that you want to replicate. When you post your application you will be examined on how you are replicating your real life counterpart. Study your real life nation's population and military size and aim to be similar to this.

DO - Introduce yourself to the community, and more importantly invite your friends! Inviting other nations to Pohlmania shows you are committed to the community, and your efforts will be rewarded.

DO - Get stuck into RP events. Or even better, start your own! Make sure you follow the NS guidelines on how to do so.

DO - Notify us if you aren't going to be avaliable for a few days. Nations that are inactive for a prolonged amount of time will be evicted from the region.

DON'T - Run your mouth on our forums or RMB. This is purely annoying for all who have to read and will most likely result in your membership terminated.

DON'T - Build a SUPERLAZOR in one day. Not only is this completely unrealistic, but it is also godmodding which is frowned upon.

DON'T - Join for one day, then bring in 400 puppets the next. This creates unnecessary clogging of spaces for genuine nations. It will also poise a bigger burden for you. The general rule for puppet nations is to state who your puppets are, and to make sure you keep them active.

DON'T - Plagiarise or steal other work. Plagiarism is copyright, not only is this really frowned upon but it is also illegal. Don't do it.
