Wrong Bin Fine

Postby Kalaspia-Shimarata » Thu Jul 14, 2011 5:06 pm

Penrith Council Sydney Australia is charging people fines for putting garbage in the wrong bin. What do you think about this? I think it is a good idea exept for one thing, and I'm sure every Aussie is guilty of this...when your bin fills you use your neighbours, or the person who lives across the road...or the closest bin which will fit your item (and before you get all "lock up your bin then, I mean on the night before collection). I have no problem with people doing this, but I would if they introduce the garbage fine because anyone can easily chuck an recyclibe in the garbage bin or recycling in the garbage bin and the owner of the bin foots of the fine. Also, about 50% of the country puts the street number on their bin, the other 50 who don't can easily get a fine for what is in their neighbours bin, especially if they are really close, or your neighbour hates you nd plays a game of swaps...

Australians should focus on the important things, like not getting bitten, stung, kicked, or generally mauled/killed by the local arachnids, insects, lizards, snakes, birds, platypuses, sheep, spiders, plants and spiders.

Seriously, the entire continent was DESIGNED to kill people. How do they have time to worry about this stuff?

As someone who lives in the LGA, I support this. It's also not a fine, it's a rate increase correlating to a different bin collection service. If you'll turn to page 85, I notice your council has similar charges for extra service.

Penrith already has changed its waste management services so that the greenwaste bin is collected weekly, with garbage and recycling collected fortnightly. If people are putting non-greenwaste stuff in their greenwaste bin, then they certainly should have to pay the higher rates to get a red bin that's collected weekly.

Rise of the bin Nazis. Combining the worst of Bin Laden and Hitler. Soon we'll have sentient microchipped bins rolling into and occupying our lounges as living space for the refuse caliphate.

You don't have to live in the bush to come across venomous spiders, snakes, insects and plants.

I lived in Arizona for quite a while, it's basically Australia 2.0 in that not only is everything poisonous, but most of the plants have vicious spines as well. And some of them hide them behind nice pretty leaves. Also, it's hotter.

You get those things in the city in addition to the desert. Unless Australian wildlife is more polite than American wildlife...Which seems unlikely.

Our poisonous plants generally don't have spines - they're poisonous only if you're silly enough to eat them. We do, however, have a certain kind of stinging tree where the spines are so small and fine that they cannot be removed once embedded in your skin.

We have the cholla. It's not poisonous, but it's the only plant to combine the spines of cactus with the attitude of a rabid wolverine, the determination of a door to door Jehova's witness, and the evil of Sauron. it makes up for the lack of poison with the sort of vicious cunning that plants really shouldn't have.

Perhaps the Australians could throw people into pits full of them for putting garbage in the wrong bin.

While there's laws against it in Germany, it's usually an issue between the waste disposal service and the owner(s) of the trash dump. Fines or jail time usually only occur if something more serious than tissues is put in the paper bin, such as concrete pieces or other construction waste that will damage the machinery that does the sorting or if the waste is toxic and endangers the health of the people handling the trash.

Yeah, sorry, I'm on holidays with limited access to the internet and the bloody thing wouldn't let me edit it to explain what I mean.
Arachnids-The only Arachnids in the city are daddy long leg spiders...they are not poisonous
insects-We only get Cockroach, flies, fruit flies, ant (and NOT red ants) and grass hoppers. These are not poisonous
lizards-The biggest lizzard I have ever seen is about the size of my finger...not poisonous
snakes-No snakes in cities
birds-We have no dangerous birds in cities. We do have pigons but Australian pigons are morons. They just sit there churping and taking rubbish out of bins
platypuses-Never seen a real in my life
sheep-The only sheep in Australia are at farms ready to bread or killed for food
spiders-Again, only daddy long legs
plants-There are no poisonous weeds and no one is stupid enough to plant (or sell for that matter) anything poisonous
spiders-Again, we only have daddy long legs
I have a holiday house very very close to the bush and yet I have never had these problems!

I thought you lived in Sydney. You know, home of the Sydney Funnel Web. Not to mention redbacks and whitetails. Hell, even a huntsman can gie a nasty (though not poisonous) bite.

How about mosquitoes, which can carry blood-borne illnesses?

Ants, wasps and bees do carry venom, although it is generally safe for most people.

Let's not forget the paralysis tick.

Kalaspia-Shimarata wrote:snakes-No snakes in cities

Bullshit.
THE SNAKES OF SYDNEY

Of the roughly 140 species of snake known to occur in Australia about one seventh are found in the Sydney region (within 80 kms of the city centre, within the Sydney sandstone basin).

The snakes of the Sydney region belong to the following five groups or families; The blind snakes (Family Typhlopidae), 2 species; Pythons (Boidae), 1 species; Colubrid snakes (Colubridae), 2 species; Elapid snakes (Elapidae), 15 species; Sea snakes (Hydrophiidae), 1 species.

Blind or worm snakes (Typhlopidae), as they are commonly called are wormlike, harmless snakes. Except on nights (usually) above 18'C they spend most of their life underground. They are Australia's only snakes known to be insectivorous.

Pythons (Boidae) are thickset non-venomous snakes which kill their prey by constriction. They have distinct heads and necks and include the worlds largest serpent.

Colubrid snakes (Colubridae), are the dominant family of snakes in all parts of the world except Australia. They comprise fangless and rear fanged tree snakes in Sydney. No Australian colubrid is dangerous.

The Elapid or front fanged venomous land snakes (Elapidae) are the dominant group of snakes in Australia. All are venomous and some species are deadly. This family has the deadliest snakes on earth and a worldwide distribution. Its' members include the Death Adder, Taipan, Tiger Snake, Mamba and Cobra.

The sea snakes (Hydrophiidae) are a marine group with keel shaped bellies and oar shaped tails, well adapted for swimming. They are all allied to the elapids. All are venomous. These snakes are usually found on land when cast up in storms or sick. They find movement on land difficult, but can still bite an aggressor.

Two types of legless lizard (Family Pygopodidae), are found in the Sydney region. Both the Scalyfoot Pygopus lepidopodus and the Burton's Legless Lizard Lialis burtonis are abundant and are commonly mistaken for snakes. They may be distinguished by their external ears, thick fleshy tongues and long tails which may be separated from the body. Tail autotomy (shedding) is practised by both species.
