[Passed] A Model World Assembly

Postby Mahaj » Thu Jun 23, 2011 7:39 am

New Ambassador Bhai Kha placed a piece of paper on the desk at the lobby of the headquarters. He smiled at the clerk. He was only 22, she wasn't much older than him, it seemed. But he had more important things to focus on right now than her. He could always look at people at the Strangers Bar. "I've got this proposal," he said, "and, um, yeah."

She smiled at him. "Very well," she said. "I will inform the delegations here."

Bhai thanked her and retreated to his office. She looked at the proposal, reading it over. She smiled, and said over the intercom to the building:

"The Ambassador Kha from Mahaj has checked in a proposal called 'Model World Assembly'. Feel free to stop by the Mahaj office to ask questions and check it out. It shall also be tacked up onto the bulletin board in the lobby for all to see." She went over to the board and tacked it up. Some ambassadors in the lobby were drinking coffee and stopped to take a look. It said:

A MODEL WORLD ASSEMBLY
Category: Education and Creativity I Focus: Education I Proposed by: Mahaj

The World Assembly,

RECOGNIZING the goal of this body, the General Assembly, is to improve the world,

BELIEVING the best way this can be done is for delegations to be educated, both now and in the future,

CHOOSING, in this resolution, to focus on future potential delegations, namely children,

BELIEVING that people, including children, should be educated about the World Assembly, and the best way to do this is through simulations of the World Assembly,

REQUIRES member nations to educate people about the role and doings of the World Assembly,

CREATES the organization to be known as the Model World Assembly, or MWA for short,

IDENTIFIES MWA as a simulation of WA meetings and discussions,

RECOMMENDS that nations implement national MWA conferences, which are gatherings where people simulate a WA discussion with the goal of passing resolutions and 'improving the world', and also where they can learn and practice proper diplomatic behavior,

ENCOURAGES individual schools in nations to implement MWA clubs in their school,

CREATES an international MWA conference to be held, here at the World Assembly Headquarters, where people from all over the world can engage in a simulation of WA discussion, using proper diplomatic behavior,

HOPING that with the creation of MWA, more children will be interested in the WA and more educated about the WA.

At the bottom of the paper, the clerk had scribbled:

Thoughts? Contact the Mahaj office, third floor, east side, room 307.

But wouldn't a WA discussion simulation include, but not limited to, defenestrations, turning up to the debate drunk, soliciting 'donations' and ogling the Thessadorian Ambassador?

Well, first, what Bloodstone Kay said...and Bob...not to mention those "dahm nazi threads", the IntFed conspiracy to rule the world through the WA, the NatSov conspiracy to rule the world by destroying the WA, the appointment of terrorists as WA ambassadors, Koopman's attempted arson of the WAHQ, and so much more.

Also, why do non-members have to educate their children about the WA?

Giovanni put down the rather large bottle of... something... that he was drinking out of, and headed over to the bulletin board. He squinted a bit, tilted his head to one side, then the other, and finally chuckled. "How naive. I do think that this violates the Child Protection Act."

Ms. Spenanda Thekenbail walked into the delegation hall to find that the delegation of Mahaj was being made a mockery by the entire assembly. She picked up a copy of the draft left on her desk by the kind ambasasador from Mahaj and scrolled over it. She liked what she saw.

"I am the only person in this entirely assembly who thinks this is even remotely a good idea," she said, interrupting all the ambassadors mocking the Mahaj delegation. "I mean, seriously, even though it may be to complex for some kids, this proposal is an excellent idea. We need proposals like this that ensure that the next generation of WA ambassadors aren't idiots who haven't the slightest clue what the hell they are doing. Furthermore, this mock assembly can encourage the right types of diplomatic behavior amongst children, and even can encourage general life problem-solving skills in children who do not continue to be amabssadors to the WA."

"I'd even be in more support, however, if the correct diplomatic behavior is encouraged, and not lies, trickery, and deciet." Ms. Thenkenbail eyed Dr. Koopman and the Knootian delegation across the hall.

Giovanni thought for a moment, and then said, "Perhaps I could give my support if a clause was added to prevent the children from being exposed to such things as defenestrations, Nazis, Dr. Koopman and his arson attempts, et cetera, which I think is what Ms. Thekenbail is saying. Hard to tell through the buzz I'm getting from that... I don't even remember what it is I was drinking, but it's damn good." His eyes take on a glazed look, before he snaps out of it with a shake of the head. "Where was I? Oh, yes. Then again, it's only a matter of time before the NatSovs get here and rip you to pieces over micromanagement or some such nonsense."

We propose using this in our juvenile detention facilities - would it be in contravention of any best educational practices?

It is hard to make comical remarks, but I shall try to resist.

Don't many nations already handle limited versions of the WA with student councils and debate?

Certainly debates are much more... I'll use the word chaotic... but the concepts were definately exercised when I was part of a student council.

A concept was presented, discussed, modified for compromise and then implemented.

I'm not directly opposed to the concept mind you, but it does seem somewhat unnecessary.
