NOTE: Do not post here unless you've been accepted in the Sign-Up thread.

Around the world, there are several beings with capabilities high above those of common men. These beings regularly remain isolated or choose to hide or even deny the existence of said powers altogether.

However, in San Francisco, there is a school. It is by all means a normal school, but many of it's students are not...

San Francisco, 1 day before the beginning of the school year

Henry merely stared at them. All of them. They numbered in the hundreds, but he didn't care. He was far too shocked to count them. Dead bodies, scattered all over the ground, himself the only living being amidst that mess. And then he raised his hand, and saw it. An axe completely surrounded by fire, yet he could somehow hold it without any trouble. However, soon enough, it deformed into a serpent that then leaped at his head...

"Wake up, you damn psycho." An angry female voice shouted, and the next thing Henry felt was a pillow hitting his face. He woke up immediately, and on the door he saw his mother. He stared angrily at her with his orange eyes.

She sighed. "You're never going to change. Go get your stuff. School starts tomorrow." She said, and crossed her arms. Henry merely kept staring at her. "NOW!" She shouted, and then Henry finally got up and went to take a shower.

After that, he got dressed to go out and had breakfast, not speaking to or even making eye contact with his mother. Finally, he took some money and walked out without even bothering to say goodbye.

He walked idly towards the mall until he found himself there. "This is going to be one hell of a year." He thought to himself as he entered, his orange eyes seemingly emitting a slight glow, as if they were burning. This effect subsided within mere seconds. After that, he walked around, looking around for anything he would need.

Wayne crept through the mall unenthusiastically. School began tomorrow and he was "super excited". (Sarcasm for those of you who don't understand it...) As the typical "smart kid", he was usually written off as enjoying academia. Now, he had certainly had no problems with school. with a 3.8 GPA and an intellect level that made his advanced engineering teacher look like your typical hick, he was certainly something special. In fact, despite being a sophomore, he took mostly senior classes. This didn't matter. Life was hell for him. If only he remembered what hell was really like. He felt a strange chill go up his spine. Looking to his left, he noticed another teenager also browsing in the shops. For whatever reason, he seemed significant... familiar. Wayne shook his head and looked away. Weird feelings like this had become more and more abundant lately. It was as if, as if he could feel what others were feeling. He couldn't help but laugh. That was almost as insane as the telepathy and psychokinesis he read about in comic books...

Another sleepless night, insomnia be damned.

The light trickled through the cracked windowpane and a beam struck Nihil directly in the eye. She blinked, leaned back against the wall, her person sitting neatly on the bed. She slammed Anthem shut, after all, reading it over and over again did nothing but occupy time.

Shaking her head to get the hair out of her face, Nihil sighed as it slowly fell back in front. She grabbed it with her fist, yanked her precious scalpel from its notch on her bed stand, and sliced haphazardly, watching the straight black locks flutter onto her blanket. She wiped them off onto the floor, hair exploding everywhere. She tentatively stepped onto the floor of her room, walking slowly out of it, careful to avoid sharp implements. She was a collector of such things, but she wasn't known for her organizational skill, and they lay strewn about where a carpet should be.

Walking down the single hallway in the useless excuse of a house she lived in, she muttered "G'morning..." to her father, who was asleep in his chair, the crappy television still on and a lit cigarette burnt to the end between his fingertips. Reaching into the fridge, she checked the milk, which was rancid and sour. She threw it at the garbage can and it narrowly went inside, bringing the whole thing to collapse on its side. With a jump her father awoke, dropping the cigarette to the floor with a shudder.

"Ni, what time is it ?" He said, his eyes closed and his right arm wiping his eyes.

"I don't know, we don't have a clock. I've been assuming 6 am sunrises for the past 3 months." She was bent over looking through the fridge, and she finally just grabbed a green apple and slammed the door shut, walking towards the decrepit living room and practically falling uncontrolled onto the couch, which was really just half of a couch her father found in an alley and dragged into their home. The internal fluff had piled up slightly next to the couch, but it was still rather comfortable.

"You still have your Zippo pa ?" She asked, reaching into her dirty white shirts chest pocket and pulling out a pack of cigarettes, taking one and holding it between her fingers.

"Nah, lost it in a bet. I got matches though." He reached into his own pocket and tossed a matchbook at her. She tore one out, lit it against the strip, and lit her cigarette, sucking in the sweet smoke. Her father glanced at it, and stuck out his hand, and she slowly pulled another cigarette out and tossed it to him, along with his matchbook.

"School tomorrow, eh ?" He said, lighting his cigarette, gritted between his teeth.

"Waste of time, but the county'll come back out and bitch if I don't go. I'd much rather be working."

"I'd rather have you working too, hun. You working today ?" He said, flipping through fuzzy TV channels and giving her glances.

"Nah, I got my check last Friday and was out of there." She took a longer drag on her cigarette, staring at the smoke as its tendrils dissipated into the air.

"You got stuff for school, right ?" He asked.

"Stuffed under my bed, had plenty left over from last year."

"Ah, good. Make some friends this time."

"Sure..." Nihil glared at him, but he didn't notice, and she looked back out the front window and at the cars passing by, taking the occasional drag from her little cancer stick.

"I think I'll go to the mall, pa. Get some good coffee or something."

"Wear pants this time, missy."

"Oh fuck you." She said as she walked back to her room, grabbing an old pair of black dress pants and her wallet, jamming it into her pocket. She reached for her gloves, slipping her scalpel into the palm.

She went out the back door, climbed over the termite-ridden wooden fence, and walked the relatively meager distance to the mall. Passing the metal detectors, she did a quick spin around it as the guard was preoccupied, and then continued on her way, hands in her pockets. She passed by some other teenagers, but she didn't really give a fuck about them, bunch of useless preps. She stopped and leaned against the wall near one of the stores, just watching the shoppers go bye. Some fella looked at her suggestively and she shot him a death-stare, and he quickly scuttled away with his friends. Subconsciously, she felt her scalpel cut into her palm, and she pulled out her hand and watched the blood pool slightly in her palm.

"Oh, go away." She said, ignoring the feeling of the blood sliding back into her veins, and the wound sealing itself shut.

Cameron found the first day of school tended to be somewhat depressing, but a sure cure was heading to the mall. He could hang out, get to meet friends, and shoplift whatever he considered of value to his future education.

Of course, first he had to cover his skin in nice pink make-up, or his natural blue would draw too much attention. Which meant either using a lot of makeup or wearing long pants and long sleeved shirts, which always made him feel stupid-but the hoodie would also allow him to stash a great deal...

He headed out to the mall, ready to take on whatever the day brought-or at least get away from the boring home he was now in...

Austin Stevens got out of bed and ate some breakfast. He brushed his teeth, put on some clothes, tossed on a school hat, and walked outside. He teleported to the mall down the street. He loved being able to teleport, too bad he could only teleport to places he could see. He saw some new walked into the mall and went to a school supply store. He saw a few guys in there about his age. They seemed familiar.

"Hey," he said introducing himself.

Vanessa rolled lazily out of bed. She didn't so much as walk to the dresser as slither upright. Her body had no interest in getting up that early, but it was the only way to set her internal clock for school time. She put on some clothes, went downstairs and got a meager breakfast. She then phased back up through the ceiling into her bathroom, too lazy to take the stairs. Finishing her morning routine in there, she went outside. Stretching, she decided to go to the mall for coffee. She hailed a taxi to get there, and soon wound up at the mall. She saw a few kids that looked oddly familiar there. Déjà vu.

"Yo." Cameron affected the disinterested, slightly bored with everything attitude that allowed him some distance, but still friendly.

He sized up mall security-it'd be pretty easy to set himself up, maybe easier if he hid among a crowd of normal shoppers. Who knows? Could even be fun. Sliding his board under his arm, he nodded again. "Sup?"

Ariana woke up in the forest. It didn't surprise her. She must have fallen asleep during prayer last night. It was almost a full moon, which conflicted with the beginning of school. Of course for a normal student the full moon marks nothing, because a normal student doesn't worship the Goddess of the Moon. Why? Because they would be mocked. Ariana had been mocked enough in LA that she moved here for this year. It helped if you didn't have parents to convince. Ariana had forgotten them, and everything else from her old life. All she knew now was that she didn't age, and Artemis granted her amazing gifts. She could only manage to move moonlight to light a room, or talk to certain animals, but she knew, that one day she would have far greater power, and she would be the Champion of Artemis. Hmm, bad title, she thought softly. Gonna need a better one.

She walked back to the small cave she called home. Showering wasn't an issue if Artemis's blessing kept her clean. There she deposited her bow and quiver of arrows, and walked to the local mall. She would need supplies for school tommorrow. At least there isn't homework the first week, usually. The full moon ceremony would take all night, and sleep would be had during normal homework time.

Henry walked frustratedly through the mall. He had found a few things he'd need for tomorrow's school, but he still had quite a bit of stuff to get before he could go home. Or rather, drop his stuff at home and wander aimlessly like a hobbo. At least by doing this he didn't have to bear with his mother.

As he did this, a taller man bumped into Henry. The man was pretty angry. "Look where you're going, you son of a..." He said, before Henry delivered a punch to his face. The man staggered backwards. Henry dusted himself off and walked away. As he did so, he failed to notice that his hair had been messed up by the bump, revealing the small sun mark on his forehead.

Ignoring this, he walked near a certain wall.

Unmoved, Nihil's eyes danced as the kid punched the man in the face, and continued on his way. He was coming towards her, oddly enough, but turned and continued on past.

Wayne looked across the hall and noticed the fight. The same kid from earlier. To his shock, he saw a girl talk to him. Now this wasn't the shocking part, it was how he felt about her. It wasn't as if it was an emotion, but a warning. She was... different. Something about the boy stood out. The girl was like lighting off a firecracker in the middle of a sermon. Hard not to notice. He casually past by and sat on a nearby bench, attempting to catch parts of their conversation. He was connected to these people somehow. Maybe they knew what was going on...

Henry frowned as he realized that his sunmark had been exposed. He quickly forced his hair to hide it with his own hand, then turned around to face the girl. It was the same girl he walked past merely seconds ago. He could have just walked off, but then the girl would pheraps suspect something, and chances were that due to her age she would be in the same school he was in. He decided not to take the chance. It was in his best interest to end this. Of course, he wasn't going to tell the truth either, but it was for his own sake.

"Yeah, how do you know?" He said casually, his orange eyes looking as if they were emitting a very faint glow.

As Ariana approached the school supply store she saw a group of people she almost vaguely recognized. Figuring that it would be helpful to have friends this coming year, and they didn't seem like complete jerks. "Hello there." She said, approaching them.

Wayne looked at new arrival and yet another feeling came up. The boy was a dull spark, the girl an uncontrollable wildfire, but this new girl was a hearth. A familiar and safe fire. Otherwise, her appearance was more of nostalgia then the others were of of alertness. He rose and offered his hand. He wasn't one to be sociably outgoing, but with everything going on in his head, it couldn't hurt to get some answers.

"Hello," he replied, "my name is Wayne. And you are?"

Ferro was purchasing the supplies required for school at a store, he was very monetarily restricted, but he took a few low denomination coins and changed them into coins of a higher value, effectively multiplying his cash. He payed for his supplies, the clerk accepted the money without question, he had practiced this for quite a while and his coins looked authentic.

He noticed a girl that he had seen while registering for this school year (Ariana), he decided to go talk to her, in order to get acquainted with his future classmates.

Henry shrugged. "Eh, well, it's sort of a birthmark more than anything. I was born with it. But that's really all there is to it." He said, sounding quite sincere, although indifferent as well. This was only a half-truth. While he knew there was something more to his own sunmark, he himself didn't know what it was. He simply felt it. Pheraps it was connected to the nightmares, but Henry didn't really have the capacity to find out.

"Well, now I've told you enough about me. How about you?" He said, hoping to turn away the focus of the conversation.

"...This was a terrible idea. Now I'm stuck with her." Henry thought to himself as he leaned on the wall as well, small orange flames flickering in his eyes, reflecting his slight frustration. It was nothing he couldn't bear with, especially after living with his mother, but then again it was still... It wasn't even annoying, but he didn't want random people possibly finding out more about him than he himself knew.

"Oh, anything will do. Your name for starters. I'm Henry." He said casually.

Wayne noticed Ariana was avoiding his eyes, which was fine by him. Whenever he looked people in the eyes, the little feelings he got about them manifested themselves into little sprinklings of memories. And those memories were rarely pleasant. It wasn't that they themselves were painful, but the mere action of remembering was difficult. It raised the question, what was he remembering? He himself was rarely, if ever, involved in these situations.

"You go to the high school?" he asked. He noted another boy approach Ariana. He also caused a reaction as if he should be familiar. Yet he wasn't. All of this uncertainty was definitely not what Wayne needed...

I enjoy meta-humor and self-deprecation. Annoying, right?

Goodbye.

"Nice to meet you, my name is Ferro" he said with his usual Italian accent. He was surprised at the fact that she didn't want to look at his deep green eyes for some reason."It seems we will be attending to the same school, if I remember correctly I saw you the day I was registering."
He made sure to keep his right hand inside his pocket at all times, as not to rise any unfavorable questions.
Shorten my name to Nav, not Nava. I'm not exactly sure what Nava sounds like but it certainly doesn't sound like something pretty.

Henry mentally grinded his teeth. Despite not being able to, well, make eye contact with himself, he was quite aware of the impression his eyes gave people. Hell, orange eyes were already rare enough to begin with. Then there were the flames. They came whenever he had negative feelings, and raised in intensity as the feelings grew.

However, this was soon disrupted, as he figured out how to avoid further questions, or at least he hoped so. Henry let out a chuckle. "Thanks. Yours are pretty too." He said.

"Will be my first year there, but not my first high school year. I am moving here from LA this year." Ariana said, "you?" This time she accidently looked into his eyes.
Damn force of habit. Ever since her eyes had changed, she had to adjust her habits to avoid the eye contact. It was a slow process.

Also, I am a pansexual genderfluid individual. If you don't know what that means, look it up. I deal with enough people asking in real life. . ;)
