Making Sure You Have Access To Things That Kill People was our provisional slogan, but Defense Solutions From Tomorrow, Available Today sounded a lot nicer.
Pennington Defense Consortium, Incorporated was formerly known as Pennington Defense Solutions until late 2010, when the company reformulated under the financial management placed in charge by Charles Pennington III, long-time owner of the company. PDCI offers a wide range of aircraft, small arms, mechanized infantry, and other defense equipment. All sales must be pursuant to PL. §65-04, which only permits certain equipment to be exported by PDCI and McConnell Defense, Arkinesia's two largest defense companies.
History
In the late 1940s, McConnell Defense Industries dominated the Arkinesian arsenal, but the quality of these items was dodgy. Upon his return from The Great War in 1948, Marine Captain Thomas Pennington, brother of Marine Colonel Charles Pennington, Jr., founded a gunsmith's store in Pennington City with financial backing from his father, Charles Pennington, Sr. Pennington Gunsmiths was a popular shop for those interested in the use of firearms, which, at the time, was primarily returning soldiers. In 1955, experiencing much profit, and having experimented in designs based on the in-use AP-2 pistol, Thomas opened a new business, Pennington Defense Corporation. Within a year, it received its first contract. The F-3 Spectre, similar in design to the Amerikian F-4 Phantom II, with design alterations made by Garrett Patterson, an aerospace engineer, and accepted through the 20th Century Fighter Programme in 1958. Patterson also designed PDC's second winning contract, the F-6 Lynx, for the Future Freedom Fighter Programme in 1959.
In the 1960s, the PDC AN42 and AN10 rifles served in Arkinesia's military, both being designs of Thomas Pennington. In 1967, PDC designed a new attack helicopter, the AH-2 Rattlesnake, and this became accepted in the Light Attack Helo Programme of 1968. By 1977, Pennington Defense Corp. was responsible for almost all of Arkinesia's defense purchases.
In 1991, Arkinesia commissioned two new defense programs. The AP3 Programme was a program to find a replacement for the long-standing AP-2 .45cal pistol. The second program was the Advanced Strike Fighter Programme. The AP3 Programme had two .380cal pistols. McConnell's Model 226 pistol competed with Pennington's Model 91. Ultimately, after much feuding over a potential winner, the PDC Model 91 won out, and served until 2008. McConnell's Model 226, however, was found very commonly in the hands of militants and terrorists worldwide.
The ASFP, however, was no contest. Pennington Defense Corp., which in 1993 became Pennington Defense Solutions, entered the F-22 Raptor, licensed by the Amerikians. The Raptor handily defeated McConnell's Su-33-esque design. ASFP II, in 2001, ended little differently. McConnell's Su-37 lookalike was handily defeated by the PDS F-25 Shuriken. In 2010, the ASFP III competition found Lyran Arms' F-24 Spectre II the winner, a plane redesignated from its original LY-910 Shadowhawk name.
Today, Pennington Defense Consortium, Incorporated supplies two nations with over 90% of their equipment. PDCI has production licenses from Yohannes and Lyras to build Yohannesian IFVs, and Lyran fighter jets and AA turrets. As of yet, these have not been approved for export, pending negotiations.
