In my area there's about 20 villages called "Novo selo", which literally translates as "New village". This has got to be the stupidest place name ever.

There are towns all over Ireland whose name literally means "Big Town".

thought it was a word a little bit ruder than vagina

there's was a big screw up by car companies when they sold cars to spanish-speaking countries under the name 'nova'. 'No va' in spanish means 'won't go'.

I had a teacher called Cockburn. Everyone would make fun of him behind his back for making us pronounce it Coburn. Apparently he has joined a non-religious monastry or something of the sort. By the way, I live in Australia and the national language is English

There's a desert lake in Pakistan called Hamun-i-Lora.
Hamun means lake. And Lora is Urdu slang for dick. So literally means Lake of the Dick.

It made us laugh like hell in Geography classes :lol:

Hmmm... And that's according to the town's website. It seems the story I was told was an elaborate lie. Based on the participants answers to the quiz they either got rewards for a correct answers (the truth) or had a penalty for incorrect ones (consequences). The town ended up answering the last question wrong, and the consequence was naming the town after the show. So much for old family stories!

Anyway, what are some funny names you have come across?

Bald knob, WV, as well as Pinch (also in WV). But that's not my point. In German the past tense for essen (to eat) is aß. Now this may not look funny now, but when that weird letter is replaced by the English equivalent (two s), you get....well, yeah.
