The HIA H17 3.5-Ton LTV is an unusual heavy-duty vehicle. In terms of dimensions and payload capacity it fits the gap between light utility vehicles and light trucks. Also this vehicle has good cross-country mobility. First new prototype of the H series was revealed in 2007. Originally it was designed for civil market, however soon this versatile vehicle was adapted to suit military needs. It is available for both civil operators and military customers. It is currently in service with a host of nations as part of a testing regime.

A conventional structure is expected to be resistant to 2G. Our competitors can achieve 3G for some extreme applications. The H17 cab has been developed and proven to withstand more than 5G. While the H17 does not give only the impression of being the most resistant vehicle ever built, it really is quite resilient.

At the heart of H17 3.5-Ton LTV there is an innovative structure. A tubular profile worked out in 2D and subsequently in 3D, in order to achieve a structure strength never reached before.
This innovative concept, used only in the aerospace industry, has been used by HVRL-HIA to be much more resistant than a simple extrusion. The H17 modular structure is made starting from a
100mm diameter tube formed using an elaborate train roller. The advantage is the high resistance. In fact, thanks to this, the steel sheets are welded each other in order to avoid deformations
even in case of extreme stresses.

The lateral sides and the rear roll-bar are made by “adaptative modular space frame”. The front and back panel, and the floor are made using pressed steel, while the reinforcements, under the cab, are made by high-tensile steel. The doors are made entirely of steel. Inside, aluminum handles.

Vehicle is powered by an HVRL-LTD 3-liter turbocharged diesel engine, developing 168 hp. It is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. A 6-speed manual transmission is optional. The H17 3.5-Ton LTV has a permanent all-wheel drive for great cross-country mobility. A central tyre inflation system and tyres with run-flat inserts are optional. Recovery winch is also an option.

Various versions of the H17 3.5-Ton LTV are available. These have various wheelbase lengths, height, cab type, body type and payload capacity. Payload capacity is ranging from 1,100 kg to 3,425 kg, depending on the version. Gross vehicle weight ranges from 3 500 kg to 6 000 kg.

A baseline 2-door cab accommodates driver and one passenger. The cab has an integrated roll-over protection. The H17 3.5-Ton LTV can be also fitted with a 4-door crew cab. This vehicle has a capacity to carry from 2 to up to 15 seated troops, depending on the version. Vehicle can be fitted with add-on armor kit.

Various body variants are available, such as;
