What are your opinions of Weiner? I myself like him, he seems smart and has balls, and isn't afraid to criticize the Republicans. What's the rest of NSG's opinion?

you are going to have to pass over the vast majority of american politicians if you want one that is not a vehement proponent of israel. so much so that i doubt that anyone who would not voice such an opinion is probably a piss poor candidate for anything.

He seems to have balls, and he seems to have some good ideas with regards to health care.

However, according to his Wikipedia page, he is pretty strongly pro-Israel, supports partial-birth abortion, and voted for Iraq (though he later claimed to regret it). Also was fined for campaign misconduct.

In May, Weiner successfully added an amendment to a House bill banning aid to the Palestinian Authority. The amendment would outlaw the Palestinian delegation at the United Nations and kick them out of the United States.

AMY GOODMAN: Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the New York Times has called for an investigation of Israel for the use of cluster bombs on Lebanon. What are your thoughts?

REP. ANTHONY WEINER: Well, first of all, a lot of those organizations, Amnesty International in particular, has always had bias against Israel, and frankly I would argue that in many cases, the New York Times has, as well. You know, Israel didn’t choose to have a war. Israel—this is not about land. Hezbollah hasn’t said, "We want this sliver of land." They’ve essentially crossed over an international border. They are an organization who, their avowed purpose is to eliminate Israel. Frankly, they’re the enemies of the United States, as well.

That is actually a tough choice for me to make. I do like him more than Obama, but he has no out-of-base appeal, and would give whoever wins the GOP primary a better chance at winning; So, the reason I would not vote for him is pragmatic rather than political reasons.
