OOC: I am soon going to be finishing scorination of my first domestic season. However, at the end of this season, I am unsure of what competitons run by you guys my clubs could enter, and how I can apply for them. I am talking about the tournaments on the first page.

So, how do I apply? I'd like some of my top teams to have some external competition.

your championship winner will qualify for the TQCC, and the following three places qualify for the Globe Cup, though I think you can allocate Globe Cup places to whomever you wish to some extent. The top four in your second division will qualify for the Serie B Champions Cup, and your domestic cup winner will qualify for the Cygnus Cup.

Major Stories

Sky and Silver Ribbons on Trophy for Third Year Running! Though they didn't look quite as unstoppable as they had the year before, Juvapanam ZL are bringing back a title to their home city for a third consecutive season, thanks in no small part to the calm leadership of Khytennan manager Roger Guzman. It was a narrow affair in the end, the title race, as Juvapanam slumped through the final third of their schedule (losing their last three matches) and nearly blew a significant lead at the top of the table. But as eternally seems to be the case, the side was always impressive in attack, and that led them through. Pazhujebi Ighu Hochassi had a standout year in the right midfield winger role that Fušia Oujadda had made so famous two years before, Pocoan Hakan Mendez found an even richer vein of form than he had the year before by adding a new element to his game (hold-up play), and Sorthern Baral Qaavigaaq immediately introduced some long-needed service from the left flank for both attackers via exceptional crossing. The club's defense, however, deserves mention; Jahat Chahachim was seminal as a right back in his first year at a club not managed by his father. The championship makes Juvapanam the most successful team in the history of the Federation and again sends them to the TQCC qualifying stage (where they will be hoping to at least make it to the Globe Cup group stage).

Who? Hu! Brilliant Left Back Leads Vulkan to Second Place. Why the hell does Baba Yaga always select Vaskaryev, a left back from a team that just finished 13th in the league, for the national team? Why, when she's got Athaši Hu to pick? I guess because he used to be really inconsistent... maybe... anyway, "used to be" is the important term there; reunited with his former manager (at Juvapanam) Šudhan Chahachim for this season, Hu was one of the best players (if not the outright best player) of the year. His dynamic ability to create chances was vital to Vulkan's success as he often ventured out of the back into midfield. There, he partnered very well with holding midfielder Hranush Litvinov, who often tracked back into defense to cover for Hu's excursions. Also outstanding for the burgundy and wisteria were Osarian Lorenzo Ruiz and Unitopolitan Pat Saunders, two central midfielders who showed great enterprise and drive as they created chances. The one hiccup in Vulkan's season was the turbulent partnership in attack between Leo Shcherbina and Chaya Vuhumkara, who really never developed an on-field rapport and apparently don't get on.

Title in Hand, New-Look Shadows Fluff Lines on Final Day. It was nothing but tears after the First Division's thirtieth matchday for the side wearing silver and black in Pkethat Šede. They were expected to win their home fixture against Yastrabi, and had they done so, they would have outstripped Juvapanam and won the club's first championship. Instead their defense, which twelve months ago was regarded as the toughest in the Federation, leaked five goals to the Hawks' unremarkable attack. Shadows will have to be content with the Globe Cup next year. However, they can be happy about their new manager, Oghu’ghabuzheh Palšikar. Despite having a handful for a name, Palšikar's resume as a strikers coach at Urnabhi made him well-prepared to try and reform Shadows' squad in the wake of Miron Stefanyshyn's departure. One of the cleverest things Palšikar devised was to use Zaqazha Uharhi as a right back instead of centre half, which allowed the team's captain to bomb forward into attack a bit more. But everyone agrees that the two best players for Shadows in the 5246 season were goalkeeper Baltabek Ignatyev and striker Thambi Zanga.

Profligate in Front of Goal, but Urajbina Do Win Vahavi. Urajbina have made an awful habit in recent years; they tend to lurk around the top of the table almost all year long, but can just never make the final push. The yellow, red, and blue were held to a point far too many times this season, and ultimately they probably deserved fourth place. But fans still saw flashes of brilliance from the side, with quick Kagdaz left winger Aleksei Vazavorski at last showing his best technical talents, fiery Pazhujebi center back Aqhorassia Bhara flaunting improved discipline and tactical awareness, and wizened Krytenian right winger Warren Kennedy-Worthington leading Urajbina in assists. Steven Sanchez's mental fortitude reared its head in the Šenapatiam'ajat Vahavi, where Urajbina were totally untroubled by Shadows and Zhevassi and were tested by but ultimately victorious over Angels in the final. But time is running out for players like Burke, Khan, and Ošafi, whose heads could be called for if they are equally disappointing next year: seeing the impudent little city across the bay rake in a third consecutive championship has infuriated the fans. Something's gotta give.

Elsewhere in the News

Zhevassi's league struggles continue as they barely sneaked into fifth place and had to root for their archnemesis Urajbina in the Šenapatiam'ajat Vahavi final just to get into the UICA competitions, but the Galacticos see no reason they cannot equal their Globe Cup quarterfinal performance of last year. FKM looked a bit sharper than last year, but to do it they relied heavily upon defense, which has incurred the wrath of the orange-and-silver-clad supporters. Krevetka look to have sorted out all their drama as the post-Semënov squad looked to be a more cohesive unit, but unfortunately on the pitch their defense was the opposite of cohesive and they are lucky to have finished as high as eighth. The goal was the Vahavi final for Alakar Maxagonal's Gimnasia, and they did impress by making it all the way to the overall semifinals (the Kagdaz bracket final), but were just bounced by Angels on away goals. Peregrina Thašighi and Nono Jariku showed fleeting signs of the beginning of a great midfield partnership this season, but overall their Xenon side was horrendous. Urnabhi slumped down to 13th after losing Rejiharbajan Yir to Yastrabi and ought to be genuinely worried about next year. The three teams that were promoted a year ago are the three who are going back down; BFZ looked the most organized even though they scored the fewest goals of any club in the First Division. Coming up to replace them are Yellowknife Yaks, who couldn't look more like an elevator team if they smelled like urine and played crappy adult contemporary music, Vezhidrupa, who have achieved promotion in consecutive years and will offer the capital of Mahathu another First Division team to watch despite the club having been a Third Division side just 12 months ago, and... Angels! Ugo Stowell strikes back! It was an absolutely amazing year for the formerly embattled giants, who fielded a roster of great youth talent and tore their Second Division group to pieces. The red and blue dropped just three points in the entirety of their league campaign, were easily promoted, and reached the Vahavi final to boot. Ultimately, it sort of feels like relegation might have been a good thing for Angels... it's revamped the roster, recharged the fans, and brought back a long-missing winning mentality as they head back to the top flight.

A Great Tryumph

Six seasons after winning the crown for the first time, Romans repeated the feat this season and took it once again to Colosseum City in great fashion, finishing 8 points ahead of the runner-up Polar Zenith. The key to the Centurions' victory was in a perfect balance of attack, which didn't have the most goals scored (a title that goes once again for Battle, which ended up only in the 5th place), and defense, which didn't have the less goals taken (mark shared by the runner-up and the third place, Asia FC).

This season saw as well a nice performance of Polar Zenith, that didn't do so well since DL-VI, and of Zarblese International Cup winner Asia FC. Both clubs fought closely for the second spot, which would guarantee the Orientals a spot in the TQCC if they manage to get it. Unfortunately for the Igualibridis' side Polar Zenith finished 1 point ahead, forcing both clubs to a qualifying match to decide which club will join Romans in the world championship.

After winning 4 of the last 5 seasons and ending second in the one it didn't win, Battle finished only in the 5th place, which almost made the current TQCC vice-champions not qualify for any international competitions this year. As it ended, the club will play the Globe Cup with Knights and either Polar Zenith or Asia FC.

The biggest surprise was Bloodthirsty Killers, that ascended from the Marquiss League and finished 6th, only 2 points above Battle. No surprises in the latter end of the table as Zug-Zug, Brilliant, Xegei and Super descended, with 11 points separating the bottom 4 from the rest of the table.

Duke League XII will see the return of Balance, that played the Marquiss League for two seasons. Let's see if the Igualibridis' second force will be able to keep it up with the big guys for a while.

So. Aguazul, if maybe you didn't hear, just won the World Cup.

¡¿How cool is that?! I think that is pretty cool. You can feel free to disagree. And that is cool also.

The r...actual question for these purposes is, ¿where does that leave the Liga? Is it a small, insular thing, now dedicated to producing talent for the national team? Is it just a small league, that one team can dominate? Hey, this happens. Or has happened. In other leagues. That are small. Some of them. The same team wins.

And then I resim other times and other teams win. Fate mocks me. Mocks me. Ñerrrrrrg what do I do? :<

Turn some games over to other people and hope a, I don't know, averagely good but not overly so team can pull through.

International competition
Other teams might have tipped their hats after losing 3-0 to Hatton Town; Deportivo Peralta grumbled sourly, then drew 1-1, while both our SBCC preliminary round teams blew out their opposition. Alianza Ciruelas beat our Delaclav, um, comrades? That can't be right. Anyway they won, and then beat some Liventians too. Both our SBCC preliminary round teams lost, but both our other SBCC teams won, as did almost all our Globe Cup teams (bleep you, Albornos and co.)

Unión de Ciudagua finished last in their group. Thank you guys. Please lose games more often. Or draw. Whichever. We're getting annoyed. Not annoyed enough to let the Pumas win the league. But annoyed. Our remaining SBCC teams topped their groups. Brilliant!

Alianza Ciruelas finished last in their group, under Dover City. No, not that Dover City. Sorry. I know you were all looking forward to guitar heroism. Mapabore Juventud finished second in their group. Deportivo Peralta also finished second in their group. Beating out Dover City. Yes, that Dover City.

ICD Villago were still full from Mexican food in Pilsen and couldn't take a bite out of Agreman FH. 12 de noviembre, however, devoured the Canfudea Factory's best efforts before sweeping aside Agreman FH, only to lose out to Dullham Town. Deportivo Peralta lost to the Neurologists (well, come on, they're maniacs in a couple of ways).

Mapabore Juventud did better against Eldorado than Deportivo had, then got through a scoreless draw with Mar Sara to win at home. They avenged Blén (not that that was their real goal in the matter, mind), and Deportivo (again, sort of, but not really meaning to), setting up a rematch of the TQCC18 final--this time, with the different associations in slightly different positions.

Mapabore took the lead through Gunsedal Cisneros (¡¿who else?!) nineteen minutes in, and though Yuba United tied it shortly before the half, Rapinato Burrieza scored again in the sixty-third. We can't speak for the rest of the world, but for Mapabore at least, the triumph was indelible.

And then they went and actually accepted their invitation to this invitational thing, on account of having someone actually qualified in charge of communications. Thank you.

No, Yakoleva was not arrested. Though after losing 6-0 to the champions and 4-0 to their crosstown rivals, Pumas fans probably wish she was.

Estudiantes' relegation mean that Alianza Ciruelas will be the only team to participate in all of the Liga's first twenty-five seasons. Congratulations. Somebody had to have the longest streak. Not that they played like they wanted it this season, granted, but whatever.

In a battle of the dates, 2 de abril won a nine-goal thriller on the final day to stay ahead of 12 de noviembre for the Clausura title. The latter, however, had a good lead to clinch promotion. Welcome back and all. Lobernians go down, Fábricas go to the other playoffs, Trecelunas FC who have once been an actually good team and have won first division titles, plural, and suchlike, barely avoid the other playoffs, that and my laziness might grant this system a stay of execution...

Or they might not.

In the other playoff, you see (CD Quemavilla beating 2 de abril 2-0 in that playoff), Fábricas faced off against, and were beaten 4-2 by, Destello, those manic midfielders. And they had been beaten to the third division title by our very own CF Clan Tropa.

Jack Burgundy had his gaze fixed upon the back of the net. Surrounding him were thousands of watchful eyes. The keeper, who was looking intently at his (Jack's) most sub-concious of movements to gain insight where the ball may be headed. The security officers, who stood facing the field. Their face bore little emotion and their eyes hid behind dark lenses but, they were into the match all the same. Behind them were more than a hundred thousand fans. Some were standing, others chowing down. A further group of them were watching the match through the viewfinders of their cameras and camcorders. For the most diehard of the fans, this was as stressful of a moment as it was for the players on the fields. Their teams were a missed shot from either the championship or second place.

Behind Burgundy stood twenty players in a line. Some, like the security officers showed little in the way of emotion, while others looked like they were about to break out in tears or cheers. Often in these situations it would be a little bit of both.

It was a lot of pressure for a mere 19 year old to handle. With the nations' eyes upon them, many at his age would buckle under the pressure but, one look at Jack's body language told you that he was made for this very moment.

As he took his first step toward the ball, the stands lit up with thousands of flickering lights. Each person clamoured to capture a frame by frame look at this moment.

As the ball came off his foot, it looked like it was going to go in. The ball had tremendous velocity and what looked to be excellent placement. However, Inacayal Mojica is one of the best goal keepers on the island. He knew right where the ball was headed and he lept toward the top left portion of the net to try to stop the ball.

In short; he was successful. The ball deflected off his hands and up behind the goal, thus sealing the victory for Portsham City, who had earned their first championship ever. As expected, Auld Lang Syne began to blair from the band located at mid pitch and, a group of City supporters stormed the field.

Portsham's joy was predictably evenly matched with the disappointment of the Artillery. They had played a much better season than Portsham and had even led throughout most of the game however, in the end for all their labour, there wouldn't be another chance for them until next year. No matter how much they wanted to change it, the score for the first v.league final was and would always remain; Charleston 2 (2), Portsham 2 (3).

And with that, this season comes to a close and once again next season will see some shifts in terms of the organisation of the Virabi League System. With the foundation of the Unity League (expect something IC on that in the next few days), the v.league will once again become Virabia's second division. However, due to my partiality to the playoff system, I will keep it, just seven or so of Virabia's best teams will not get to take part.

Tenth Aeropag Football Invitational

The Paripana Sporting Council invited sixteen teams to this edition of the Aeropag Football Invitational, up from the previous season’s eight. Again, they ignored independent applications to the tournament, though in one case (Avidia United) an independent application coïncided with an invitation, which allowed PSC bureaucrats to avoid excess paperwork by filing the relevant paperwork reduction form. Due to the shift in the Invitational’s timing, Beningrad was exceptionally invited as the winner of TakilQuip Champions’ Cup 28; Globe Cup 25 winner Ranca Toco was not invited as the same association’s Cafundó do Juta had won the more recent Champions’ Cup. The PSC locked horns with Valladar and Zarblese counterparts, as tournament organizers refused to permit entry to non-champion applicants from these associations, and the associations refused to release their champions to participate in the tournament. Consequently, the only non-champions to participate in this edition were the host team, CF Aéropag, and its contractual invitee, CF Mont-Pluie. Four new associations are represented in the field of sixteen: Astograth, Cosumar, Mossulia, and Polar Islandstates.

With sixteen teams, the format of the group stage would be four groups of four, with each team playing all of its group opponents once. Champions’ Cup winner Cafundó do Juta was automatically placed in Group A and Globe Cup winner Mapabore Juventud was placed in Group B, though this was ignored like a Benin by the draw presenter and a correction was announced by the PSC after the fact.

The tournament’s two non-champion teams, two francophone teams, and two teams to once have had a hierarchical relationship ended their rather miserable tournament performances with a meeting in the kindoff. CF Mont-Pluie was once embarrassed by its Jativan feeder club qualifying for the Globe Cup while the Ad’ihani side languished in the second division, but they had the last laugh here in Aeropag with a 2–1 win. Calanian champions Avidia United, whose group was turned upside down by their shock defeat at the hands of Melbourne South, played for damage control in the final phase and managed thirteenth place, for which they received 5 kg Au. SK Franz Josef City, in fourteenth place, was awarded 4.5 kg Au, while both kindoff participants received 4 kg Au. Each team in the kindoff bracket also received a plaque commemorating the club’s participation in the tournament, as well as small goody bags containing an assortment of foods and trinkets with a total cash value of 98.4 g Au.

Cafundó do Juta, proclaimed “international treble” winners in a major Krytenian company’s advertisments, failed to add the Invitational to their trophy haul, having been relegated to the classification bracket by a controversial yellow card. They returned to their usual form in the eleventh place match against Juvapanam, securing the prize of 6 kg Au while the Pazhujeb side received 5.5 kg Au for twelfth place. FC Yuppers, who defeated the world champions in the semifinal round, won 6.5 kg Au for tenth place, and Firewood City took the 7 kg Au prize for winning the ninth place match. Each team in the classification bracket also received a plaque, complemented by larger goody bags with a total cash value of 149.0 g Au.

Two teams who finished second to unfancied opponents in the group stage met in the seventh place match; Vanorian godmod Hondo FC (yes, there’s a Vanorian godmod that isn’t Raynor City United) eventually claimed the 9 kg Au prize on kicks from the mark, with Belgium FC taking 8 kg Au for eighth place. FK Ituraitz and OAS Royal FC were benificiaries of easier groups, but wound up in the fifth place match after failing to defeat their strongest challengers; Ituraitz won fifth place and 11 kg Au while OAS Royal settled for sixth place and 10 kg Au. Each team in the consolation bracket was also given a plaque, complemented by larger goody bags with a total cash value of 218.6 g Au.

Melbourne South, after a shock first-place finish in their group, were handicapped by being the only team in the playoff bracket not to end with the letter “d”, and thus were always expected to finish fourth and receive 12 kg Au. Beningrad, despite being yet another Sorthern team invited for somewhat-dubious reasons, managed their association’s best performance in the tournament, using their “D” to park the bus in front of goal (how the bus reached the top of the Olympic Tower is anyone’s guess) and receive 13 kg Au for their 1–0 third place match victory. After Juvilian Martinax shocked the world—or at least the portion of the world that bothers watching the Invitational—by winning the ninth edition, FC Mildrid nearly became the second club from Erathore to claim the title, but was stymied by Globe Cup champion Mapabore Juventud; they nonetheless receive 14 kg Au, while the Aguazuleño team claims the top prize of 15 kg Au. Each team in the playoff bracket received a trophy, varying slightly in size based on the club’s placing, and each player of the top three teams received an appropriately-colored medal. The four teams also received goody bags, with a stated cash value of 490 g Au.

Academy Football League 2200–01 Regular Season

The Academy Sporting Association’s dream of global domination had a rather modest result this season, with the only addition to the league being the Heartland Conference, an association of old Bedistani universities who finally realized that people would actually hear about them if they joined a league that people have actually heard of. The ASA announced a new long-term format involving a forty-six match regular season, with each team playing its conference opponents twice, and teams from two other conferences once, with interconference matches to be played three at a time to reduce travel costs, and conference pairings to rotate each season. The ASA’s fixtures secretary, after weeks of struggling with these requirements, eventually picked up a children’s book about graph theory to help solve some of the outstanding issues. When she explained to the executive board, using metaphors from the book, that it was impossible to rotate conference pairings as specified with an even number of conferences while maintaining a fully-connected schedule for ranking purposes, the board decided to fire her and offered the position to the author of the children’s book instead. The author proposed a random draw each season to determine conference pairings, and on that basis designed a schedule that not only met every other requirement, but additionally allowed for a conference to be split into two pods of six teams, with interpod matches also played three at a time to reduce travel.

Along with the new conference, two new trophy games were formed: the Metropolitan Trophy, played at the Sonoma City Volcanoes’ new home venue The Caldera, and the Charity Trophy, played at Alesanka Park in Yuba. There were seventeen trophy-eligible teams to fill the six games, but the ASA expanded that number to eighteen by granting a petition for eligibility from the University of Alexandria, who won the Heartland Conference despite having a losing record.

The ASA hopes that the accession of additional conferences will eliminate such conditional selections, which are currently needed to prevent intraconference trophy matches.

During the season, the ASA announced that it had completed negotiations with the eighteen former members of the Ad’ihan University League Championship to enter the Academy Football League in the 2202–03 season. Under the arrangement, an Ad’ihani Conference will be formed, involving twelve of the teams, and the remaining six teams will join a conference with six Paripanan teams, though the details of this joint conference have yet to be announced. Three trophy games will be hosted in Ad’ihan. There are rumors that the league is also in negotiations with universities from Tarrentum, but no specifics are available at this time. The ASA reiterated its stance that it welcomes participation from universities around the world, as long as they are willing to adhere to the league’s scheduling.

OOC: The requirements for entering teams in the Academy Football League are:

Conferences must be composed of twelve teams. Each team will play twenty-two intraconference games, and twenty-four interconference games against the teams from two conferences chosen at random. This requires that each team make four trips per season to play teams from other conferences away (three matches in each trip).
Each team must have a name (no more than 35 characters) and city. You may also specify style modifiers (they’ll be chosen at random if you don’t provide any) and the relative strength of your teams (all of your teams will start off equal if you don’t provide this). The strength of your teams relative to other teams will initially be determined on the basis of IUCC participation.
For each conference you form, you may create two trophy games. Each trophy game has a name, is played at a particular stadium (which should have a capacity of at least 40 000) each season, and matches teams from two different conferences. The teams participating in each game are selected by me based on relative prestige and semi-sensible criteria. The more prestigious trophy games will receive teams eliminated from the Championship Playoff, and will also host up to one Championship Playoff match per season. If you do not have suitable sites to host trophy games, other regions will be offered the opportunity to host additional games.

After they accepted their invitation to the invitational thing, Mapabore Juventud variously scored, conceded, walloped? endured, eliminated, and/or triumphed, and probably other exciting verbs ending in "d" (not "won," or even "shut out" or "blew out").

Anyway, woo. Oh and also because we missed it last time, the Super Cup occured. They won, 2-0, and lost, 2-0, to finish in second place. Stupid Cafundó do Juta going and scoring. We could have had (even more) fun with this.

The...okay, ¿what?

Okay. Some things we have decided on. First and foremost, a team that loses all its games in the first division (not that that's ever happened, but should it ever) is still likely, in some qualitative way, to be superior to a team that loses all its games in some other division. Thus, our system needed changing for reasons more fundamental than annoying dynasties. Second, and foremore, annoying dynasties are annoying. Third, and fore, we like going and participating in international tournaments. Not enough to legalize universities or anything, but all things being equal. Fourth, and foreless, at the very least it would be good to have another competition other teams can shoot for. Fifth, and forelesser, we don't have to do replays this time around. Sixth, and foreleast, we reserve the right to completely tweak stuff in the future. We do.

Presenting; la Copa del Aguazul. This knockout competition will involve the forty teams in the first four divisions, plus...okay, I had better explain this to you. The details. Of the other divisions. Which...have existed all along. Trust me on this. Or don't. Isn't like it's any skin off my back.

Okay, so there are divisions three and four, each consisting of ten teams. Movement between the second and third divisions, as well as between the third and fourth, is analogous to movement between the first and second. The worst-placed team from the region of the fifth division champion is relegated. The worst-placed team from the region of the fifth division runner-up plays off with the fifth division runner-up for a spot in the fourth division.

There are three regions of eight teams in the fifth tier; North, South, and Supercentro. They have other regional leagues below them. The champions of each fifth-tier eight-team division play a bracket thingy with the winner of the round-robin thingy. The round-robin thingy is contested by the three champions of the divisions that aren't part of Aguazul proper despite us occupying them (North regional, South regional, and those five islands the survey turned up. Maybe the Lilliputian occupiers will get a team or two together although they've been busy.)

Okay so got that? Four times ten plus three times eight gives a good bracket number. Or would be if I could figure out how to make this thing work.

Eleventh, and foremost, was The Derby. The 2-2 draw was sloppy and left a lot unclear going into the second leg, which was not as tactically sound as they come but oh did it please a lot of neutrals. Athletic Stanza - Topaz Stadium (51,250). Unitopolis' most successful club, with 18 titles, will have a hard time retaining this one following the news that the club's all-time top scorer Coreninho was retiring.

Borderlands Sport - Lakeside (21,600). They might not play the most attractive football in the league but it gets the job done and should be enough to guarantee survival.

Central City FC - Samson Towers (28,660). A large bid to buy the club fell through a few weeks ago and the fans may have to settle for another mid table finish.

Demokratos - Pusan Sports Centre (14,500). Demokratos fans can't quite believe they're still in the Platinum League, but will the departure of manager Alexis Papadoupalos mean an end to their entertaining spell in the top flight?

FC Mostov 1896 - Mostov Stadion (20,000). New manager Jeffery Bowe has arrived and with him has come Wexwick starlets Paul Noonan and David Fleming but they're still likely to be relegated.

Gleeson City United - DRK Arena (21,120). After a summer of worrying speculation for Gleeson fans, star striker Dennis Puffin stuck with his boyhood club, but things could still get ugly.

Gratizoli - Carlo Bandini Stadium (39,500). The failure to get international football meant that their biggest stars left and another barren season looks to be on the cards for the Islanders.

Krazaky BK - St. Basil's (22,850). If they can sort out their disgraceful away form then they should stay up.

LC Lagoa - Atetunji Park (32,700). No major transfers for Lagoa, and it should be another quietly comfortable season for The Panthers.

Litmus Avenue FK - The Avenue Arena (17,500). A watertight defence was the key to their success in the Hibernium B Division, but will it be as effective in the Platinum League?

New Dublin Dragons - Hibernium Stadium (44,000). An ageing squad means that it will be a struggle to finish top 4 this season, but the Dragons will be determined.

RC Otilla - Dieji Stadion (24,450). Talismanic captain John Levi's departure means Racing are now relegation candidates from day one.

Rihiki - The Fortress (19,850). Former Demokratos manager Alexis Papadoupalos has joined the club and has stated his aim of finishing inside the top 6, an immensely difficult task.

Royal Valley Police - Staffon Road (20,000). The Constables will have a tough season, but have a strong enough squad to stay up.

Univerbardé - Minorem (32,000). Their attractive passing game makes them a neutral's favourite but they're yet to capture a trophy with it.

Van Sahar - Thomas Kelly Park (26,980). Van Sahar have a solid squad, although they punched well above their weight to finish third a season ago. Should finish about 7th.

Wexwick - Wolfe Tone Colloseum (40,150). Sold their star player Niall Hunt for 12million to Vaastrada FC of Swartaz, and this money has been invested in majorly strengthening the squad.

Xavier Athletic - Kaysopp Stadium (23,360). You never know what Xavier you're going to get each year, they're the only team who could realistically finish 8th or 18th.

Zamba Torpedoes - Victory Park (45,500). A young squad did exceptionally well last season, and if their stars stay injury free they'd have to be favourites to win the league.

Tertius Shajarhayam – No one is going to miss the old days when they played this game in the spring. I mean, let's face it, it was in the middle of the season, it was all rainy and disgusting... this is better. Now the small stadium that hosts the game, on the Isthmus of Bujav, is drenched in November sun. Sweet, we at the Herald say. Sweet. It's the Red-Blues versus the Orange-Violets; the Federation's All-Star Game equivalent is here.

The player introduction ceremony that always kicks off the whole Estate Match Weekend was rather interesting: it's a confusing blend of politics and sport, as you've got these hyper-rich, hyper-upper-class, hyper-powerful Šenapati wandering in full light-blue traditional garb, but they're talking about... sport. Giving speeches on the biographies of all the players involved in the game, and such. Very odd. Here's a photo of a Šenapati, Lady Pathaniši herself, in fact:

Weird, right? Anyway, the game. All the old rules about team allotments have been scratched. All of the mumbo-jumbo about rewarding developing talent is history. Lady Pathaniši is required to sift through all the relevant fixture lists, results, and tables in order to determine who the absolute best twenty-two player in the First Division were. Whoa, dude! There's a few things you're gonna notice right off the bat. First of all, you've got half the Juvapanam lineup over there on the Orange-Violets. That's going to create a big bonus right there, I mean, Juvapanam are the champions, and those players got selected for a reason. The man tasked with defending them is... drumroll... likely Player of the Year and Vulkan left back Athaši Hu, who is... another drumroll... a former Juvapanam youth product! Tasty.

The only current sky-and-silver player over on the Red-Blues is Baral Qaavigaaq. Now, considering that he was one of the players of the season for Juvapanam, this might be a deliberate placement by Pathaniši. (Who are we kidding, these selections are always deliberate!) Whatever the Šenapati's intentions, we're going to see how good the champions are without their enterprising left-winger. (Probably still really good.)

One more... and this is hilarious, actually... remember last year, when Vuhumkara and Omelchenko were playing together up top for Zhevassi? You know, back when the midfield was creating chance after chance after chance but those two strikers just couldn't cooperate enough to be really successful? Back when they had a big falling out and Vuhumkara asked to leave Los Galacticos because Omelchenko was there? Well, guess who the Red-Blues have playing up front?!?!

The first half was a flurry of action, and it looked as though the Red-Blues might actually make a real game of things for a while. Within ten minutes Omelchenko had deftly rounded Bhara, charged down the endline, and cut away from goal before neatly laying it off for Qaavigaaq to hammer it past Levantis. But the Orange-Violets weren't having any of it... well, that is to say that Thambi Zanga wasn't having any of it. The oft-overlooked yet always improving veteran Shadows striker has come off his best ever season (surely no coincidence that it was the season after Miron Stefanyshyn, AKA Admiral Defense, left the club), and he was unstoppable playing alongside Hakan Mendez as the game wore on.

That, sports fans, is how you play your way into the national team (he said while noticeably winking at Baba Yaga).

Player of the Year Award

For some reason, the KPFA has decided to only give out the Player of the Year Award this year, as opposed to the whole gamut of different prizes divvied out to everyone and their grandmother that we're usually treated with. When we had a Herald reporter go around the offices to investigate, all the office doors were locked, but loud Ibiza house music could be heard being played and the strong odor of tequila could be smelled. We didn't want to examine any further. The nominees are:

The Astograthian Football League: Season IV

The fourth season of Astograthian football has come to a close, and with it came new champions and much heartbreak all around. As a reminder, the Football League is being restructured over several years so that the number of top tier teams eventually reaches sixteen. Hence, this season four teams have been promoted to First Division and six have been promoted to Second Division.

First Division (Taldo Lehan)

Ituraitz FC's previous league win might just go down as a fluke in the history books, as Royal Rumiatzi steamrolled all opposition to their third title in four seasons. Recieving only 25 goals and scoring 63 of their own, the country's most successful team were led to victory time and time again by their new acquisition, the Kagdaz Slava Semënov.

The battle for Globe Cup spots was a bit more competitive. Though Ituraitz FC and Iturributa United were relatively unopposed in their quest, the struggle between Sporting Iturributa and Urbizania Wanderers was a dramatic affair that was decided on the final matchday. As Sporting lost to an inspired South Factory, Wanderers defeated a relegated Blue Mountain Range and celebrated its first ever qualification to international football. Cotdelapoms veteran Louis-Yves Lafayette was widely regarded as being the key man for the Urbizania outfit.

Further down, South Factory improved on last season's performance by two places, while Echegoyan once again came in seventh. The promoted Ituraitz Victory narrowly avoided relegation, though the highlight of their league run was the first match of the competition, in which the Second Division champion hosts the First Division champion. This pitted Ituraitz Victory against fierce rivals Ituraitz FC for the first time in a competitive match in decades, with the home team coming away victorious against all odds.

Relegated were Blue Mountain Range and the unfancied Ibarbe Polo Club. The former was very disappointing after last season's sixth place finish.

Second Division (Taldo Biharran)
This year's Second Division was tougher than the past one, as the promotion spots were increased to four in an effort to increase the amount of First Division teams. Athletic Club Rumiatzi, one of the most popular teams in the country, bounced back to the top with a very aggressive and risky, yet effective, style of play.

Astograth University, on the other end of the aggressive-defensive scale, was also promoted, while Iturributan team Royal Association will also make their return to First Division. The also Iturributan Freedom FC, initially not fancied by many, was the fourth promoted team.

The Army Club, facing financial difficulties and bad form, finished fifth. Iturributa Racing Club was expected to go up, but failed and came in sixth, just above the other Racing Club, from Garitzeta. East Railway dropped from seventh to eighth and will have to fight hard to avoid the relegation that this time swallowed up Royal Garitzeta and Athletic Club Basabe.

Real Jabuti easily snatches the title after 18 matchdays almost uncontested. Vila Xurupita, who was bouncing between the two first positions since the championship began, lost steam in the last stretch. Meanwhile, SC Derrota suffers a humiliating defeat that sends it straight to Ceribê.

Simply put, the most recent round of state championships have been nothing short of surprising. The majority of the seven teams who were supposed to go to Unity League (provided that they would have otherwise qualified for v.league), those clubs being: West Atalanta, CD Vonghurst, Portsham City, Laufston Town, Charleston (Artillery) , the Pioneers, and the Bears, failed to qualify for the v.league, thus they will be ineligible for Unity League. Ok, so only two failed to make it but, still. It was two clubs that were thought to be shoe ins.

The surprises didn't stop there, though. For the first time since the hiatus, the Capitols made it out of the states, finishing only two points behind the Thundercougarfalconbirds. In Tropaia, we also witnissed a rare feat. The Clippers, long known to be the worst team in the system (they did make it to Division South once long ago but, they did not fare well) recorded forty straight losses. In this time they managed to not even score a single goal.

Overall, it was an interesting year, and if you follow Virabi Football at all, it will become clear with the tables below.

Also, one note: What was true this season will be true in future ones. Just avoiding relegation in Unity League will not mean that the team receives an automatic berth in the next edition. They must also play to the level required to normally earn a spot in the v.league (Top 6 in Vonghurst/ Tropaia, Top 4 everywhere else). Otherwise their spot will be vacated to a team based upon performance in the most recent v.league. (This team must also meet v.league criteria). This move was done in order to avoid teams already guaranteed a place in the top league from coasting, which is what happened back during the days of the SRPD.

Greetings sports fans, you join us for a look around the leagues at the halfway point of the season.

This could be a very interesting year to be a football fan in the Federation, as next year brings the expansion of the Federation with additional states, states whose football teams are right this second competing in the Allocation Championship to decide where they slot into the expanded league system.

The FPIFA has also, as was predicted in the media and broken to you first on this very network, announced the news that from next season, the nation, and hence the league, will be associated with the Rushmore region. This is a region with a strong and proud sporting history, and we look forwards in anticipation to our residence there. This move will also be accompanied by strong investment in our teams' stadium facilities, as attendances continue to make a mockery of all pre-season predictions, as well as flashy new logos for the league system.

It appears at first glance to be "as you were" for the top league, as Resolute and Franz Josef signal their intentions right from the start of the season with emphatic wins, though all is very close still, with only five points separating the top half of the table. New boys Severnaya and Axel Heiburg are lingering towards the bottom of the table ominously, but with an incredible six goals for his team against Yuzhny Equinox, Patrick Ackermann-Finn is showing the nation the form that saw him become such a lethal strike partner for Skye in the national team.

In the second tier, Aasiaat harbour have staked their claim for a promotion push and immediate return to the Divisjon Gull, and have opened up a lead over their closest rivals. Rapid Jan Mayen are lurking with intent to claim successive promotions, and Devon Bay Seals are already struggling to keep their heads afloat this year.

Finally, in the third tier of Federation football, its all to play for at both ends. SK Stryær and SK Sturm Rässinger 76 are proving pre-season tips to be correct as they both sit at the top of the table, but surprise packages Velcosta Cliffs and Northbrook Zenith will be breathing down their necks the whole time. At the danger end of the division, Bennett and Zhokhov are in danger of slipping to successive relegations as things stand, and only some dismal performances from North Banks are propping them up. Expect things to get scrappy at this end of the table within the next few weeks.

In Divisjonen A, half way marks indicate very little this year. Only seven points are currently separating the entire division, and it would be nearly impossible to predict a winner based on what we've seen so far. Metin Balaban has been on fire so far for Sikjonek though, and leads the division's goal charts with an impressive eleven in nine starts.

In Divisjonen B, Franz Josef Young Boys appear to be going from strength to strength, and a recent run of 4 straight wins has set the team in motion. Mattias Viklund is a commanding presence on the field for them, and if they get up a head of steam, other teams will find it hard to keep up.

And finally, although its all very early days so far, the Allocation Championship is throwing up some very interesting results indeed, with a 4-4 draw between FC Cape St Paul and Savoonga Moor SK being perhaps the most exciting match so far. Korsten, St Paul, Koppen Rig and Scapa Bay are currently the hot seats for placement into the Divisjon Gull, but with Torshavn and Sturn Nuuk breathing down their necks, this championship is far from over.

So, can Franz Josef City claim the second title to add to their first? Will Aasiaat bounce straight back? And will Koppen Rig Force get their dream of playing the big boys at their own game next season? You'll have to tune into the rest of the season to find that out. I'm sure it'll be just as exciting as the first half was.

SEASON NINE: PART ONE

Last season was all about the rise of Avidia and the continuing frustration of the nearly men of Iskara Daii. This season? There's a lot of wounded pride needs fixing. The Eagles and the Daii will still be favourites, but the chasing pack of Emberton Reds, Mercia Bromham, Ousevale Borough, Kepayan, and who-knows-else will be looking to upset the proverbial apple-cart.

So let's watch how the fruit will fall.

MATCHDAY 1
First up, of course, is the Champions' Kick-Off, and the New City Stadium witnessed the reigning champions start their title defence with a solid 3-1 win over New Cefn. More than can be said for poor Iskara though; in the weekend's big game, they're turned over by Kepayan.

Emberton Reds lead the pack after Matchday One, thanks to a 6-1 win over new boys Penningworth United; it caps off a miserable week all round for the new boys, with all four losing and only Putatan keeping the deficit as low as a single goal.

Iskara's travails continue with a draw at home to the Royals, whilst Avidia lost away at Northwood. Amidst all the confusion, Kepayan took the initiative and top spot, with Corinth, Foxchester and the Jukos keeping 100% records.

Tarrentum Premier Football League, 2017 Season (Season 8)

After having varied success in the UICA competitions the past year, TPFL clubs looked forward to a great and productive year. Surprisingly, even though Tarrentum once again moved on from the Group Stage in the World Cup, no major offseason moves were made in the TPFL or TL-A and no major countries came knocking. The Tarrentum Sports Committee has stated that it is their desire to “limit who goes abroad and limit who comes [to Tarrentum],” in an attempt to foster home grown growth of football. These past two years should tell us if the TSC has the sport’s best interest at heart.

Tarrentum had limited penetration in the UICA post-season competitions. One of these days, a TPFL club will be standing on the brink of the Super Cup, and we shall look back on these days and laugh.

With the call for renewed interest in international collegiate football going out from the Academy Sporting Association based in Paripana, an undisclosed source said that the NTCC is becoming a full member, at least in football, of the ASA to compete. While a definitive, official word could not be given by the NTCC or the TSC, many sources say that it is “all but a done deal.” With this new collegiate relationship Tarrentum moves one step closer to being a major sports powerhouse in the world.

Back in Tarrentian news the newly promoted Krozile Miners and Galitz FCA made some good waves in the TPFL. Apollonian’s promotion marks the first time in the TPFL’s brief history that two clubs from the same city played against each other. The new rivalry was dubbed “The War of the Apples” and was held with much fanfare during each match between the clubs. The swing game was held during Apolln City’s annual Founding Day celebration.

Galitz FCA is showing once again why they were relegated to the TL-A with their pitiful 1-5-5 record against the North Division. The surprise for the North clubs is that Walli Walli FC is the top team but just by a win (or a couple of draws) for the division’s top three teams. Agrobaign, once the darling for Relegation System proponents has looked anemic in the first 11 matches and needs a sharp kick to get them moving up the standings board.

Sterro is also looking helpless after just barely missing relegation last year back down to the TL-A. They have managed one more win than Galitz but have not been able to hold teams to draws like Galitz. The other poor performer is FC Yuppers who have played to a lowly 3 wins, even losing to Krozile during the first 11. Kudos have to go out to Tre Da La and their consistent winning ways. But they can’t rest while the Legion lap at their heels.

The second third of the regular season saw the tenuous lead of Walli Walli FC in the North Division finally succumb to the offensive powerhouses of Lake Empress and Krozuy. For the final 11 matches it looks as though the top three in the North will not be decided until Match 33 of 33. Galitz, however, is already trying to figure out what to change for their next season in the TL-A.

The South Division remained stable with Tre Da La, Napoliroma and FA Apollonian maintaining their 1-2-3 places in the standings. The Yuppers have managed to keep their head just above the water line but are still not playing up to their talent of recent years. Anything can happen in the final 11 matches but not a Sterro winning streak, expect relegation for the Poma-based club.

When the final whistle blew in Dardan, the TPFL finished up its eighth regular season. The Premier Cup was set with the First Round matches to be held at MegOil Imperium Stadium between Lake Empress Brewsers and Walli Walli FC and Napoliroma Legion and FA Apollonian. The story in both divisions was the runaway lead by the first place teams, both ahead by six points in relation to the second place team. This should hopefully make for an exciting Cup Championship.

With the creation of the Tarrentian League A the TPFL put in place rules for relegation. The Tarrentum Sports Committee (TSC) relegates the two lowest point-attaining clubs to TL-A from the TPFL after regular league play has ended.

This year’s Premier Cup proved very exciting as the Lake Empress Brewsers proved to be riding the Upset Special in the Consolation game when the defeated the Legion on an early goal by Tre Ferrira. The PC Championship match was the second straight Championship match to go to penalty kicks and Henry Qund and the Krozuy Academics finally regained the TPFL crown after 5 years. Tre Da La put up a good fight but couldn’t muster a their eighth kick by the Academics studious goal keeper.

For their participation in the Premier Cup Championship, Krozuy Academics and Tre Da La received TQCC berths. Napoliroma Legion, Lake Empress Brewsers and Walli Walli FC (on account of having the highest point total of remaining Premier Cup qualifiers) received Globe Cup berths. This Globe Cup berth for Napoliroma means that there has not been a UICA competition that the TPFL has participated in where the Legion have not also competed, that’s eight straight UICA appearances by the Blue and White.

Tarrentian League A, 2016 Season (Season 4)

The League is set in the international-standard structure of no divisions so that every club would play another throughout the season. The TL-A held a 24 match schedule starting roughly a month after the TPFL kicked off their seventh season. Tarrentian League A regular season play was won by some plucky performance by a former Top 3 club - Southern. With the Round Robin playoffs looming, Southern will be joined by the recently relegated Yuck-yucks club and Mountain FCA out of Riori. Could this finally be the year that Southern gets it’s due and receives a promotion to the TPFL?

The champion of the TL-A is the winner of the MegOil Cup Finals – a Round Robin competition between the top three teams of the subdivision. The winner is given the 1st Round Bye in the SBCC, the top two teams are promoted to the TPFL and all teams win entry into the SBCC tournament.

Southern’s middling performance in the MO Cup Finals proved that their regular season finish was mostly luck. Their loss means that they are the first, and only, TL-A club to fail to qualify for promotion after winning the regular season twice. I’m sure there will be a new manager in South Pezza soon who will be more willing to explore the transfer market. Yuck-yucks FC and Mountain FCA will be promoted to the TPFL for the 2018 season. All participants in the MegOil Final have won entry into the SBCC with Yuck-yucks receiving the TL-A’s first round bye.

MegOil Imperium Stadium located on Cosairi Island in Napoliroma, Tarrentum (capital city). While usually a baseball field for the Napoliroma Legion of the IBL, when converted into a football stadium there is seating for 45,000 fans. Some areas may be cramped but it’s usually a good time had by all. National Imperium University and Borgia Precentius University play their collegiate football matches in the converted stadium

Academics Stadium in Krozuy, Krozile is home to the Krozuy Academics, 2017 TPFL Champions. The Stadium is one of the biggest sole-purpose stadiums in Tarrentum and seats 35,000 football fans comfortably. While football is the only sport played on the artificial grass surface, music concerts are regularly held between TPFL matches.

Can anyone stop United? The Eagles win once again, this time effortlessly turning over Casuals Osteria, and that's nine on the spin. Iskara are at least trying to be competitive, defeating Telecontarë to go two clear of Sembulan, but it's looking ominously sky blue. And we've only played eleven matches.

York continued to run into problems clinching a league title, finishing second for the fourth straight year. Star Point surprised everyone with the league title this year after the Strikers sold off half their side in the offseason to fight for the Premiers. Last year's promoted squads proved to be ineffective towards staying in the flight for another year, with Elizabeth returning to the State Premiers and Kalimund taking on Greens in the promotion playoff.

South Holland returns to the Premiers after a two year- break, easily outpacing the rest of the division in the 2001 season. Greens had to hold off Kayserispor in the final day to gain access to the playoffs, while Nevis Park collapsed this season after years of dominance and drops to the Federation levels for the first time in history. They'll be joined by Pietrsberg and Hotspur returning to the Championship.

The Playoff Match between Borussia Kalimund and Greens went 1-0 in favor in Kalimund, keeping the St. Johns sides limited to teams in the top flight and giving Kalimund another year.
