TMR's Art Gallery of Particular Interest (NOW IN COLOUR!)

Postby The Merchant Republics » Wed Feb 16, 2011 4:05 pm

NOW IN COLOR!

So, for the last little bit I've been meaning to start one of these. I draw a lot and I've been told I'm quite good, but I've not really had a real reason to start one, I usually post my artwork on facebook, but with my most recent painting, I can shake the feeling that it looks too much like a person who I'd rather not knew of it. Besides, I've got plenty of pictures I want to add to my factbook.

So without further ado, The Merchant Republics own Art Gallery.

To be more clear, it's not intended to be an actual ghost, the title is metaphorical. Some of the folks who have suffered through my whining incessantly about girl troubles on various threads, might be able to surmise the reason, name and subject of the portrait.

Image
Now, I've got some problems with my shading here, but I think overall this is one of my best.

Image
A Member of the Eridean Aristocracy, who are more or less elves, the size of her ear however, indicates human blood, so she is likely a half-human Eridean. As explored in the factbooks, Erideans practically consider humanity to be Angels so, there is little stigma to being half-blooded.

Image
Women do serve in the Celestial Armed Forces, but typically only in Non-Combat Roles, this looks more like a recruitment poster than an actual slice of reality. If she we're actually a combat solider her hair would have been cut short.

I tell you I'm not a Nazi! I just admire their fashion sense. :p

Wearing standard issue heavy infantry armour, a lot nations would use camouflage, besides being cowardly and weak, we consider armour to be a more superior investment for our heavy infantry doctrines.

More fashion work.

No, I have no idea what the ball is, I envisioned it as some sort of holographic device, but fell through on what it could be beyond that.

Amber itself is a play on Ombre, which as you see below, means shadow, it was all for a poetry collection I fear I won't finish now. On the bright side, I'm not opposed to posting those poem on here.

Continuing with the uberclass and sophistication of the Art Deco period look, why shouldn't my nation's vehicles be beautiful too.

A Humanoid Robot, made into a Vitruvian Man Likeness. A friend of mine suggested that we send a version of this along with the next major SETI spacecraft, just to freak out the aliens. It's not cruel that I put this under "objects" right?

Rougher Work

Image
Once a mighty and ruthless Empire, the Vodar are an alien species in the Celestial Confederation, and once it's greatest enemy, invading and attacking the Orinean Commonwealths during the First Contact/Interstellar War and then later attacking the fledgling colonies of the New Merchant Republics, culminating in the Second Interstellar War when the Vodar Empire was destroyed utterly and it's remaining warbands reduced to wandering nomads. While many Vodar have settled down and become civilized members of the greater Republics, there are still many that travel in Nomadic fashion via poorly constructed spaceships, conducting raids for resources and food. They are serious problem in the Frontier. Vodar face significant social resentment over their instigation of the Interstellar Wars and the savagery of their less civilized cousins. Yet the have over time these civilized Vodar have won acceptance through unwavering support of the Republics.

Oh, hey and I'm usually open to new sketch ideas, so if you want to make requests, go right ahead, might take a while to upload though. No portraits though. None. I don't do them, because I inevitably butcher them in some minute way. And I have to spend hours after assuring them that their eyes really aren't THAT wonky.

Other than that, it looks pretty good. Keep it up.

you should rearch the art nouveau style, and 1920s era art. They look similar these characters- minus the elf ears. Anyway keep up the good work. I suggest not using felt tip or whatever you used, just because they are a bit nasty for drawing unless they are fine liners.

Just the paint program and sketch pencil actually, my Mom won't let me use her stuff and I'm rather too stingy and mess-adverse to buy my own paints.

Art Nouveau is precisely what inspired my portrait work. And the elf ears were what I needed to convince me I wasn't drawing my most recent flame.

Your quite right. I'll look into a technique to do it.

That's too bad, is the technique or just the look of the noses you don't like, I am drawing my conception of beauty here, which includes the upturned celestial nose, I know not everyone prefers the look.

Anyways to Zeth Rekia, I thank you, I greatly admire your own work so it's good to gets some approval in return.

I don't know, they are certainly not the worst words.
I mean right there, with those terms I could do something great. Got it in my mind's eye so to speak. Of course I love drawing architecture, the next picture I'm uploading here will probably be one of my futurisitic art-deco landscapes. Full of Art-Nouveau and Art-Deco Skyscrapers with sorta Atomic Age Flying Cars and 1940's sorta style on the pedestrians when I include them.

Good stuff; I take it you enjoy drawing women. The sign of a longing heart, perhaps?

Anyway, why don't you take a break from people? Try some scenes, buildings, vehicles, stuff liek that.
we, unlike the bourgeoisie, have nothing to lose and therefore our expression will be the only honest one, our words will be the only challenging ones and our art will be the one revolutionary expression. We need new noise and new voices and new canvases to become something more than the last poets of a useless generation.
