This is a test cricket series using the Redballer scorinator under development by The Babbage Islands. We are taking a long view and building for the future, but please understand that this is still quite experimental.

If you are not yet a participant in this series, a limited number of slots may be available. Check the OOC thread.

The GCF Season

1. Each GCF season runs six to nine weeks, as specified by the season host, followed by three weeks where only World Championship Tests are scheduled.
2. Tests are scorinated one day per RL day, Tuesday through Saturday.
3. Each nation may have one Test scheduled per week. Determination of home ground is up to the nations who agree to play.
4. Nations are strongly encouraged, but not required, to schedule series of two or three Tests with the same host nation on consecutive weeks instead of one-offs.

The GCF World Championship

5. The World Championship is contested over three weeks after each season is concluded. A nation must have completed at least two series during the season to be eligible.
6. In the first season, the top four nations in the rankings will receive the seeds 1-4. In subsequent seasons the reigning champions will be seeded #1, the top-ranked nation other than the champions #2, and nations #3 and #4 are the two next-highest ranked nations who did not play in the previous season's championship.
7. The Page playoff system is used. In the first week, the #2 seed plays at #1 and the #4 seed plays at #3. In the second week, the winner of #3 v #4 plays at the loser of #1 and #2. In the third week, the second-week winner plays at the #1 v #2 winner from the first week for the title.
8. Drawn or tied Tests advance the nation that scored more runs per over batted.

The GCF Rankings

9. Definitions

• One-off Test: Any Test not part of a series, including all World Championship Tests.
• Series: Two, three or more consecutive Tests between the same parties and played in the same host nation, but excluding World Championship Tests.
• Match: All Tests and all series are considered matches. A one-off Test is one match. A two-Test series is three matches; a three-Test series, four matches.

10. Nations with no Test history begin with a rating of 100. So long as they have been rated for fewer than four matches, their official rating will be the average of the calculated rating and 100 rounding towards 100.
11. When rating one nation in a series, if their opponent is rated more than 40 points higher/lower at the start of the series then treat that rating as exactly 40 points higher/lower instead for purposes of this formula.
12. The rating points earned by one nation in a series (or a one-off) equal the opponent's adjusted rating times the number of matches, plus 50 times the number of matches won, minus 50 times the number of matches lost.

Example: Four-Test series, A (rated 125) in B (rated 75). A wins Tests 1 and 4, B wins Test 2, and Test 3 is drawn.

A treats B as if rated 85, and gets (85*5)+(50*3)-(50*1) = 425+150-50 = 525 rating points.
B treats A as if rated 115, and gets (115*5)+(50*1)-(50*3) = 575+50-150 = 475 rating points.

13. A four-step procedure is used to update ratings.

• a. Add the rating points for each nation to their previous total.
• b. Add the number of matches played to that previous total.
• c. Divide the new rating points total by the updated number of matches to get an updated rating.
• d. Round to the nearest integer, 0,5 to the nearest even integer.

14. After each season's World Championship Tests are rated, each nation's rating points are reset to quadruple their current rating and match totals are reset to four. This gradually decays the impact of older performances compared to more recent ones.

The Bumblebees are scheduled for two away tests in Krytenia and one test in Spitfyred1 before hosting two series. The tests against The Archregimancy will be played at Bloomfield Hills Club in Bloomfield and Innovation Cricket Club in Wye. The season-ending tests against Old Havansk will be played at The Ashes Club in Kopavogur and Cardiff Cricket Club in Cardiff.

With Mossulia going into their first ever cricket season things are getting a little bit tense. So hows the manager? Pretty confident as it turns out. When he was asked about the Cosumar game he said "I'm pretty confident. The fact is the lads are pumped and ready for any challenge." So yeah the manager is confident. All the players seem like they are pretty confident with captain Harriet Jole saying she thought the warm up game against Cosumar would give them a good chance to bond as a team and quite probably see them win.

Last night the squad to play in the Cosumar game set out in a coach. The players were upset when they saw the coach. The chairs were soft and there were some movies, but it still was going to be a long trip with a ferry involved. In fact pretty much everybody was upset, but the government had to make cuts. Many hours later they were... many miles away from their destination. They were stopping off in Indiarga and most of them were dropping off. It was still a trip across the sea which would take two hours and another 6 hours to their hotel. They were worn out and tired so it was decided that they would stay the night in the city. When they woke up they went back into their coach and set off for Cosumar.

The first test of both the series against North Chicanin and Swartaz will take place at High Leys Park, Fortnam, while the second tests will be played at The Clearing, Arden. The one off test against Gruenberg will be played at Lewis Park, Four Rivers

The GCA, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Tailor, Percival Fladebury, has announced a specially-designed set of whites for Genyria's team. They are mostly white, with a few hints of red to make it distinctive. Jumpers of matching style, and red caps, accompany these clothes.

[Mytannion]

Mytanar Cricket Board (MCB)

The Mytanar Cricket Board (or the MCB as they are known, which is a whole lot easier to say), decided to put a special article together to introduce the team they have chosen to the rest of Mytannion, and the world. The MCB have been trying to make cricket a sport for everyone, which is perfectly illustrated by the sentence tagged to this team and the game as a whole. 'A Sport for Everyone', and this could not be truer when you look at the line-up selected for the first season of the GCF test calendar. The team features a dwarf, a tramp, a one-armed bowler and a one-legged batsman. Which really couldn't be any more true to the tagline attached to the test squad. More articles will be released throughout the seven-week calendar, which include in-depth profiles of the players, giving key information to their lives and how they got to where they are now, and how they were discovered by the MCB scouting team. Articles will be released on the stadia hosting tests around the nation, giving information on both the grounds and the areas around them. The MCB has prepared this information and hopes it will come to great use for travelling fans and teams. In this article, it gives a quick breakdown of each of the players competing in this season of tests, with short introductions and key facts about each player.

1. Sam Stewart - is an opening batsman, who is extremely aggressive. He doesn't go for the little ones of twos, he'll try and smash everything out of the ground. He is aged 24 and is a former cartoon mascot (you know, the guys you see as theme parks dressed in various animal outfits), he was discovered when he was found being bullied by a gang of angry seven year-olds who were pelting him with oranges, he simply picked up a length of wood which was lying around from some maintenance work and pelted the oranges back to the addressees. The aggression built up from this bullying was seemingly enough to make him angry on a cricket pitch, and so he pelts cricket balls around now, right over the top of the stands. Mind you, the balls do look kinda' like oranges.
2. David Catherine - is another opening batsman, who is less aggressive than Stewart, and is the one who keeps the score ticking over. The 27 year old, was a former accountant. He had his leg sliced off for a bet - and since then, has been a whole lot more quiet and thoughtful - and hasn't been drunk since. He has calmed down a lot since then too - his hopping around the crease is great to watch as he sneaks the little shots through. There has been great debate over whether or not it is fair to have a one-legged batsman, with the leg-before-wicket rule in place. The MCB has put the man in anyway, and he hopes to keep his team going.
3. Rudi Tollman - Possibly one of the only 'normal' members of the team. The all-rounder is great with both the bat and the ball and is the player who will probably be looked to, to steady the ship if both opening batsman go out early. His bowling isn't so shabby either - with him being the leading wicket-taker in amateur cricket in Mytannion (there aren't any organized teams in Mytannion, but 'meetings' whereby random teams are sorted from around three hundred participants who arrive at the meeting to play against each other - there are regional leagues, but this is the favourite method because of the randomness and the fact that it is a quick, one-day tournament - Rudi is the leading wicket-taker in this form of the game). He could well be one of the most important members of this team.
4. Victor Delaruex - A former Odour Tester for the deodorant/anti-perspirant/perfume giant 2cent. He tested the smells, to see whether they were too strong or too subtle for a common nose. He also had to make sure whether or not each bottle or can was working properly by spraying each one as it came past on the production line. He is an explosive batsman who - if given the chance - will smash everything for boundaries. Will likely be caught out by a slower ball, or spin.
5. Pascal Aiiski - This man was a tramp for a while, and was discovered by the MCB scouting team in the city of Miago - when out begging on the street at around 3AM in the morning. Some drunk men were humouring him by throwing 1 and 2 Corun coins at him, he caught every single one of them, making some acrobatic catches and his reflexes were seemingly endless. He was immediately dragged off, whilst complaining he wanted a drink and given a hose down and then taught the rules of cricket. The deal was struck that if he played, everything he wanted would be paid for by the MCB. He immediately bought a house in the Ersten District of Esca (one of the richest areas of the nation), and twenty large pizzas. He will be the wicketkeeper for this team, and his batting is slightly poor, but he will be the one who puts in a reliable score (which is debatable, as he is hugely inconsistent when batting).
6. Wyslaw Cunningham - Is the nightwatchmen of the team, and another who will hopefully steady the ship when the going isn't good. His batting scores are consistently good and he usually hits a half-century at worst. He is also a very good bowler and occasionally joins in on the action with some left-handed spin bowling. The wicked Mytanar wickets mean this suits his bowling, the dry, cracked pitch adding greater spin to the ball when he bowls and this means he can be a huge wicket-taker for the team.
7. Liam Webb - Son of the famous Mytanar actor, Daniel Webb. He is an average all-rounder, slightly better with the bat than with the ball and if the game comes to the bowlers - he will be the batter with them and will be the one trying to get on strike. He comes from the Golden Coast, which isn't surprising considering his father is an actor. He is always followed by a crush of press-gangs and will have plenty flashbulbs pointed in his direction throughout the first test cricket season.
8. Heikki Toivonnen - This man, is a dwarf. He was selected for the team after he was seen bowling at one of the cricket 'meetings' for one of the randomised teams. The height of Toivonnen means his bowling is only at the height of a batters ankle when it eventually reaches the crease he is bowling at - meaning it is very hard to hit the ball off his bowling without either hitting the ball onto your own wicket or just clipping the ball behind into the wicketkeepers grateful hands. His batting isn't too bad, and he is known for quickly coming upto the wicket and hitting a couple of boundaries, then bowing out to an easy ball. He is an orthodox, right-handed bowler.
9. Mark Aoife - Has one arm, after having it blown off when he was part of the Mytanar Army. He has a happy-go-lucky attitude though, and is known to be the one member of the team to keep morale up by talking to his fellow team-members. As he has one arm, there have been many arguments about whether this is fair or not, as people are unable to tell whether he is bowling with an illegal bowling action. But the other slant of this is the fact it makes it very hard for him to catch even the easiest of picks. He is a right-armed fast bowler.
10. Tom A. Hawk - Hawk is a spin bowler and had his name changed by deed poll at the age of twenty-two after a drunken night and a rigged game of poker which ended up with him having to do one of two forfeits - he therefore chose to change his name to Tom A. Hawk, which isn't too bad - but no one really wants to have the name Tomahawk really. On the dry, icy wickets - which are sometimes cracked with potholes caused by ice and snow, his spin is truly wicked and can cause even the best batters to lose their heads.
11. Alex Telatiksyniev - A fast-medium, left-handed swing bowler. Swing isn't much favoured in Mytannion, with plain-old seam bowling and spin being the two main ways of bowling. This is rare enough, but he is also a pretty decent batsman. For some reason, the MCB have decided to put him as the last batsman, which may be a good way of getting quick, late runs on the board. He will not be got out easily.

OOC Notes
- When role-playing, please have the batters in #1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 getting the highest amounts of runs. Giving greater precedence to #3, 4 and 6 please.
- Most of the wickets will be taken by #9 and #11, and then spread the others between #3, 6 and 8.
- If you are going to role-play us putting on a big stand to try and tie a game always have one of the top order batsman (#1 to 6) staying in until the end please.

I'd prefere for these three fairly simple rules to be adhered to, if they're not I won't be too pleased with it but if people continue to ignore them - I'll just start changing role-plays to fit the way I'd like, these are easy rules to follow so I can't see why they'll be ignored.

Oh, and always exaggerate the conditions in Mytannion, we have snow all year around and a lot of it. If it rains, it rains in excess - if there is wind, it is hurricane-quality. If there is sun, it is really hot (but this doesn't happen often).

THE MONASTIC CRICKET COUNCIL ANNOUNCES THE ARCHREGIMANCY CRICKET SQUAD

With one exception, all Archregimancy cricketers come from the small number of Western Rite Orthodox Monasteries. Cricket is a niche sport in the Monastic Republic, but test cricket is passionately followed where it is played as the slow pace and emphasis on patience are held to be important monastic virtues.

The team is listed in the order they will bat

Fr. Alban the Willow Wielder [left-handed batsman; no bowling]; fine opening batsman from the Monastery of Nova Verulamium; playing on his home ground for home tests, so will have passionate support from the half dozen or so monks in attendance. They might even occasionally lose their heads and clap politely.

Fr. Ethelbert the Wonder Worker [left-handed batsman; occasional left-handed orthodox spin bowling]; once hit an Archregimancy record high score of 333 not out when playing at Holy Trinity Western Rite Monastery.

Fr. David the Water-Drinker [right-handed batsman; occasional medium-pace bowling]; becomes the first monk to turn out for the Archregimancy in both international football and cricket.

Fr. Oswald the Northerner [right-handed batsman; very, very occasional medium-pace bowling]; the captain is a blunt and forthright character said to be fond of a pint of beer and a chip buttie.

Fr. Swithin the Sophisticate [right-handed batsman; no bowling]; has exquisite technique, but said to have a problem turning 50s into centuries

Fr. Willibrord the Wicketkeeper [left-handed batsman; no bowling]; is, unsurprisingly, the wicketkeeper - excellent fielding technique, but not always reliable with the bat

Fr. Brynach the Bold [right-handed batsman; medium-fast bowling]; the Archregimancy's number seven is their one true all-rounder, reliable with the bat, and keenly accurate when bowling.

Fr. Fursey the Faster [left-handed batsman; fast bowler]; actually named for his devotion to fasting, not the dangerous left-handed rockets he sends down when bowling.

Fr. Edmund the Hermit [right-handed batsman; fast bowler]; the trance-like state he reaches when bowling is a function of his devotion to hesychastic prayer.

Fr. Edward the Odd [right-handed batsman; fast bowler]; last of the team's 'Holy Trinity of fast bowlers' (a nickname used by outsiders, never by the monks themselves), Fr. Edward is a known eccentric who will always sprinkle the wicket with holy water before bowling an over.

Fr. Demetrius the Chinaman [left-handed batsman; left-handed unorthodox spin bowling]; why a monk from one of the tiny number of East Asian monasteries should have taken up cricket is anyone's guess - but he has, and everyone's very glad that he has. Crafty and inscrutable, his googly is lethal.


Home tests will be played at the picturesque riverside sporting grounds of the Nova Verulamium Monastery:

The monks will always play wearing their monastic robes; which goes a long way towards explaining their nickname: 'The Black Robes'.

[Mossulia]

The coach was trundling along the road and most of the players were incredibly bored. It was a long and bumpy journey and it was now nearly mid-night. Only a few were awake and the lack of alcohol was leaving insomniac Ewan Berring bored and uncomfortably awake. He sat moving from side to side. He had a packet of crisps, but there was still 3 hours left and he wanted to eat them sometime later to avoid shear hunger. He had his phone on him, but there was no internet connection. He sat down and played Tetris for a while before becoming bored. He then ate his crisps and had a coke. Half an hour later he realised he was bursting for the loo. He made a dash for it. He then came back and leaned back on the wall. Or on what he thought was a wall. It was the emergency door and it swung open. He fell backward over the road bouncing as he went. He woke up sometime later bruised and in the middle of the road. He got up and brushed himself down, there was a car coming towards him so he jumped off the road. He walked to the nearest road sign which showed some pretty awful news. It said "Next Service stop 50 miles." Just underneath it the sign read "100 miles from civilisation! Yes you are lost you drunken student / lost hiker." He then set off towards the petrol station. This might just be a bit of an adventure.

5 hours later he found himself in a small town just outside a shady bar. He had managed to hitch-hike which was better than walking. He walked in and found himself in a dark room that smelt strongly of alcohol. He sat down and ordered a pint of larger. The barman poured him a beer.

"So where are you from and how did you end up here?" asked the barman.

"What do you mean?" replied Ewan.

"Everyone here is a local. You ain't a local," answered the barman.

"I'm part of the Mossulian cricket team travelling here."

"Why aren't you in the coach on the way to the hotel?"

"I fell out the back of the coach."

"That sounds painful."

"It was."

"How are you going to get to the hotel?"

"Well how local is it?"

"About 14 hours away."

"Oh... god."

"Meh there's a bus that travels there in the morning."

"Okay, I'll take the bus."

"Just don't fall asleep on it. You'll end up in Indiarga."

"Don't worry about it, I hardly ever sleep. But I could do with some sleep now."

"Okay. There's a room out back."

"What's it like."

"Like a cellar really."

"Why?"

"It's my beer cellar."

"I'll take it."

"Just watch out for the fleas."

The barman gave the keys to the cellar to Ewan who took them and stumbled sleepily to the bed in the cellar. Which turned out to be bags and bags of barley.

[Colmark]

George Pickers leaned back as the roller reversed slowly. Countless hours had been spent rolling, cutting, marking and preparing this wicket. Colmark's first test match was just one week away and the ground, thought Pickers, had never looked better. The weather had been fantastic recently, with the long term forecast promising a hot summer. The sprinkler's rythmic ticking was extremely peaceful in the empty ground, row upon row of pristine seats which in just a week would be packed, as a faint silvery mist covered the outfield, which currently resembled a putting green. He stopped the roller and looked down at the wicket, smiling. The conditions for this match were going to be perfect.

Statement: A man was arrested this lunchtime while seemingly in the process of destroying the wicket at Cambridge University Cricket Ground, ahead of the Test match against Eastfield Lodge which starts this Tuesday. The wicket is not too badly damaged but this incident may affect the match. We are appealing for witnesses who may have known about a plot to damage the pitch, or who saw the man forcing entry into the stadium.

A STATEMENT FROM THE MCC

The Monastic Cricket Council looks forward to welcoming the Tiger Eaters of Akbarabad to the Holy Monastery of Nova Verulamium for the first-ever international test match for both teams.

However, the MCC would like to clarify that as Meatfare Sunday takes place shortly before the opening day of the test, that consumption of tigers will not be permitted, as we ask all visiting sportsmen (and, when we have to let them in, sportswomen) to abide by Orthodox fasts when they are in the Monastic Republic.

Cheese, oil, and wine will be permitted for the first test as Great Lent does not start until after its conclusion. Full strict Lenten fasting rules will, however, be in place for the second and third tests.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our visitors, but wish to assure them that - unlike the home team - they will be allowed three meals a day, and that tea breaks will take place as scheduled as tea is not proscribed during Lent.

You haven't missed out quite yet, although only about 24 hours remain to schedule a week 1 test. Ask about in the OOC thread. There are several nations whose dance cards are by no means full, and perhaps there will be another nation expressing a late interest.

The Spitfyred1 Fyreballz Cricket Team has been training hard for the season of play. The bowlers have been working hard on pace and less upon spin. They think that if you send enough of a barrage at the opponents, they will eventually yield. The bowlers are relatively inexperienced, and hence do not want to try something too dificult. The batters are simply planning on hitting it hard in every direction. If each person gets a few 6s and 4s, the Fyreballz will be in great shape. The team is very youthful, and thus will be very aggressive, time waits for no man. There is only one time to grab the spotlight.
